I am that someone and This is AMAZING! What a gift this is for me to connect with my Dad, now that he is gone..while riding his Moped. I never thought I would be able to do that! Thank you, Thank you Devin!!! It is SO BEAUTIFUL!!!
I had this exact one from Sears, in HS, before I got my license. It did 35mph(illegal in my state) on the flats. It flew downhill. Got 150 mph. Great memories.
@@DMACmoto I also have a Deluxe 11/2 HP. I'm wondering about removing the carburetor. My carburetor bowl hits the top of the crankcase when I try to remove it. I've only been able to remove the entire intake manifold to get the carburetor off. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks in advance.
Several months ago I bought a 1979 Sears Free Spirit "deluxe" moped, in like new condition, with only 200 miles on it. It was built by Kromag, and has a Puch E50 engine. Looks just like that one. The original owner apparently put 200 miles on it, then parked it in the living room for 40+ years. He passed away, and I got it from a guy who bought it from his wife at an estate sale. He then decided he didn't want it, and put it on Craigslist, and I grabbed it. It was in beautiful condition, easily a 9 out of 10. No rust or corrosion, even what I believe to be the original tires weren't cracked. The seat vinyl is soft with no cracks. Paint is perfect. The tank was spotless inside. The one problem it had puzzled me, I still don't know what caused it. The original Bing carburetor was badly corroded inside, to the point where it was not salvageable. I had to replace it. I went over it carefully, changed the transmission oil, put fresh premix in it, it fired right up and runs perfectly. It easily and quickly reached a GPS 31-32 mph. I've had quite a few mopeds, starting with a Peugeot 103 in 1975, at age 16. I moved on to dual sport bikes and Harleys, but never lost my love for mopeds. Nice video.
That sounds amazing, old gas will do wonders to the inside of these little carburetors. But man that sounded like a score. Did you get rid of it? same here with the dual sports/Harleys, but more love for the small bikes!
@@DMACmoto thanks so much. Just grabbed one of these for crazy cheap. It’s in a bit rougher condition but I really appreciate this step by step guide here haha

"150 mpg"
I just bookmarked this video. I'm going to be tearing one down to the frame this winter. Going to need a lot of parts.
Amazing. Good luck! Let me know if you get stuck on something

@@KelikakuCoutinyou can unhook fuel line and spin / wiggle carburetor 90 degree towards you so that on the way out it clears the case!
@@DMACmoto Doh! Okay got it! You're a beaut.

I just bought a 1978 FreeSpirit and really appreciate this video. Thanks for doing it!
Thats awesome. Good luck with it! These E50 motors are great and simple. Enjoy
Didn't you remove a non tapered spark plug with a tapered? Enjoyed the video!
Thanks! Replaced with same plug, just the R version. NGK R plugs are the resistor type.

Welcome!
What’s the spray you used getting all the rust off if you don’t mind me asking
A lot of different cleaners were used on this, but most of it was WD40 or simple green and a lot of agitating and brushing.

@@antoniorodriguez5287 awesome! Good luck with it. Get it back on the streets!
If the parts are messed up do you know where can I get them. ?
Look up Treatland.tv !
Did yours have two low light settings (one on the top one on the bottom) on the light switch? If so what is the difference?
Usually that's just so you can hit the switch either direction for lights. And in the middle it is OFF position.
