great video. would love to know the thought process behind determining the clogged exhaust? you sprayed starter fluid into the intake and it ran briefly, in my limited knowledge i would have thought that indicated a fueling issue, especially since it didnt run on just gas.
Great point, good question! Basically when I was pull starting it just to get an initial diagnosis, I could hear wheezing from the exhaust for a few seconds after the pull. This meant there was some backed up pressure which, after looking through the muffler, I noticed the clog right away. From working on small engines for so long I know it’s not always the path of least resistance, but i start there. Once I unclogged it, I started it and although it was much better, it still showed signs of a fuel delivery problem (carb) It’s not like I was avoiding cleaning the carburetor, but I was just trying to isolate the problem. I have learned to enjoy the process! Thanks for watching
@@DMACmoto ah makes sense. i dabble a bit with my own cars and have a junker i keep afloat but i have zero small engine knowledge which ive been branching out to on youtube lately to mess with some smaller projects at my house. thanks for the video!

I had this exact one from Sears, in HS, before I got my license. It did 35mph(illegal in my state) on the flats. It flew downhill. Got 150 mph. Great memories.

Nice car. Sounds good. I have a 23 touring. As you say you have to get the knack of the choke starting it but once you get it they start right up as long as something isn’t wrong with it. Yours looks very standard which is nice. The only thing non standard on mine is the horn. My wife said you need an oogah horn so I installed one instead of the standard vibrator horn.

@@DMACmoto I also have a Deluxe 11/2 HP. I'm wondering about removing the carburetor. My carburetor bowl hits the top of the crankcase when I try to remove it. I've only been able to remove the entire intake manifold to get the carburetor off. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks in advance.
@@KelikakuCoutinyou can unhook fuel line and spin / wiggle carburetor 90 degree towards you so that on the way out it clears the case!
