Uber Tesla rental for 1 week

  • I drove Uber for 1 week with the Hertz EV rental program. There were a lot of pros and cons but by mid week I broke even and was able to make profit so it was worth it for the time being. Thanks for watching this video which is pretty random for me considering my page is mostly about my athletics journey. I'd consider this still to be a part of that journey because having this car allowed me transportation to practice and extra money to be able to get some treatment and good quality food.
    Again, thanks for watching

I did this for a year last year starting April 27th working nights as a 2nd job from about 5-2AM. I was able to work my way up to buying a model Y last year and I’m now doing Uber black which is about three times more income with shorter rides. Keep at it and don’t listen to naysayers there is good money to be made and as long as you time it right you’ll make good money in the Tesla vs a regular gas car

$20 a day charging is actually not that bad. In LA you would perfectly happy. I drive a Nissan rented through Uber/Avis and spend up to $45 a day in gas driving part time but that also includes about 90 miles of driving for my other job during the day. It would literally cut my fuel cost more then half. If you think of charging as your normal breaks you would take during a regular work day it’s not actually that inconvenient or unthinkable. Just imagine you get two 30 minute breaks like an office job.
And drivers that own a Tesla benefit more because the payment is smaller so $800 a week would cover payment and insurance then the other 3 weeks are all profit.

I haven't driven passengers since Covid. Done mostly DoorDash part and full-time. I make a little less on deliveries but drive way fewer miles, so that makes up for the lower pay. My kid just got her driver's license, so I'm giving her my car and will probably rent a Tesla or a Bolt. I think I have to do a certain number of passenger rides, though. Most of the incentives are for passenger rides only, too. So I might be driving people again.

Been driving my 2016 Tesla since 2020 doing gig jobs with no CONS to report. Good research & planning is key to choosing a Tesla for this GIG lifestyle. I fill up at home while I sleep for like 12 cents per kilowatt, I only use the supercharger on my lunch break ( free supercharging...car is ready to go before I'm done with food /restroom), wait on rides/gigs at free destination chargers, hit my goal of $200 & up per day. I have been my happiest ever running my work life EV style. Oh....going the section 179 route is HUGE plus.
No cons here....know who you are, do your dd of research, be ready to adapt to the EV lifestyle, then pick the EV that has the best fit 4 you.

Which you get a full charge to skip the supercharger. Using a supercharger is just to help you along the way during a trip. Next time ask them for the charging cable that comes with the car.

If you don't have at home charging its a major inconvenience and not worth it in my opinion. Not to mention that charging at a super charger is 3 times more expensive than at home charging on average.

    1) $382 full rental.
    2) $160 charging.
    3) $900 gross revenue. $50 in green promo included.
    4) 50 rides
    5) 6 hrs @ superchargers ($20 each charge).
    6) 28 hours online, 25 hrs active.
The 6 hrs wasted charging kills the whole deal. Take my 28 hrs online plus 6 hrs charging and 34 hrs to net $340 is a joke. No XL with model 3.
With my ICE I get $1,000 in 20 hrs with $200 in gas. XL and no payment make big difference.

YOU GET A FREE UBER RIDE TO AND I BELIEVE FROM THE RENTAL LOT IF YOU CHOOSE TO TAKE CONSECUTIVE DAYS OFF AND GIVE UP HOLD ON A PARTICULAR VEHICLE. INSURANCE IS INCLUDED. YOU ONLY HAVE TO ACCEPT A FEW RIDES EACH WEEK TO QUALIFY FOR THE DISCOUNTED RENTAL RATE PER THE AGREEMENT HERTZ/AVIS HAS WITH UBER OR LYFT. INSURANCE IS COVERED. WHEN THE CAR EVENTUALLY BREAKS DOWN, NEEDS ANY MAINTENANCE(ASIDE FROM BEING KEPT AS CLEAN AS YOU RECEIVED IT), THAT IS "NOT YOUR PROBLEM," MEANING THE VEHICLE ITSELF IS MORE OF AN ASSET(PUTTING MONEY INTO YOUR POCKET EACH DAY THAT YOU WORK) THAN A LIABILITY(TAKES MONEY OUT OF YOUR POCKET). TO BUY A VEHICLE, ONE NEEDS A DOWN PAYMENT(AROUND 10-20%), GOOD CREDIT(OR A CO-SIGNER), INSURANCE, MAINTAIN THE VEHICLE THAT IS TO BE USED AS IF YOU WERE TO COMMUTE 8 HOURS EACH DAY IN THE CITY. THAT WOULD MEANT A TUNE-UP EVERY MONTH, TIRES AT LEAST EVERY YEAR, AND THE CAR WOULD BE DRIVEN OVER 100,000 MILES EACH YEAR, HORRIFICALLY REDUCING IT'S LIFE SPAN. PLUS, IF YOU DRIVE FOR A LIVING YOU WILL AT LEAST BE IN A FENDER BENDER EACH YEAR. IF IT IS YOUR CAR IN THE SHOP FOR "X" AMOUNT OF TIME YOU CANNOT DRIVE IT. ALL YOU NEED IS A RELATIVELY CLEAN LICENSE, SOME EDUCATION ON HOW TO BEST MAKE RIDESHARE MONEY IN THE BEST MARKET NEAR YOU, AND LESS THAN A GRAND TO START.
