100% agree that mowers should be out front. Don’t have to turn around, tires don’t push down grass, and you can get closer to objects you need to mow around. I used to mow with a John Deere F725 up until this year. Having the mower out front was beneficial. Now I mow with a John Deere 757 zero turn, which is also out front. Would love to be able to brush hog on our 45hp Case out front.
We went from using a John Deere compact for our mowing, to a Toro Groundsmaster... and the time saved, along with the cut quality was absolutely worth it. I had to abandon the Groundsmasters due to parts sourcing, and now we have a Ventrac. Aside from till work, and grading our gravel driveway, I have no use for the John Deere anymore... and Ventrac offers every attachment needed to replace everything else as well. I'd love to have this Ferrari or an Antonio Carraro TT-series. Same functionality without needing to purchase expensive/dedicated equipment like the Ventrac.
I have pondered if it would be possible to use a skid steer driveline (or something similar) to build a zero turn mower out of my semi-mount Bush Hog 3210.
The problem I always see with manufacturers in the US is they THINK they know exactly you want/need when it comes to equipment instead of listening to their customers suggestions. Obviously if consumers are giving suggestions to the company they like that make of equipment and want something that company doesn't offer. The Europeans are very good at inventing special purpose equipment you thought you never needed until you've tried one. What makes them ever nicer is they're also made to be a multi-purpose platform so it's not stuck at doing one thing. Too bad you aren't going to have this tractor with you over the winter it would be nice to see it setup with a 3-point mounted snow blower. :)
A larger version of this is the Versatile 150/160/256/276 series. And yes, they blow snow extremely well. Or if you were really adventuring, on the 276B you could have the loader arms on the "rear" and the snowblower on the "Front"... Only a seat swivel away from the attachment needed in front of you.
@@jeepanimal2943 If I went for something like this it would probably be the Ventrac since it's smaller and can get into more areas. I see Bobcat also has their own copy of the Ventrac now as well. I don't know if I'd ever need something like the Ferrari myself other than having it to blow snow in the winter. Even then it would be overkill since my little subcompact is big enough for snow blowing. Having the cab would be nice though. If the Versatile is bigger than the Ferrari as you say than that would be double overkill for my needs. As far as really big machines go the only one I know of that also has a rotating cab is the Class Xerion TRAC VC.
I don't understand why he said that, if you google search front mount flail you will find a whole bunch of them. You can even get one that mounts on the front of your quad.
Hi Tim, I live in Spain and I have the 60 HP version of that tractor. Articulated and reversible, but no cab. It's the yellow version (pasquali=yellow, bcs=blue, ferrari=green, all the same thing). Regarding the ball remains in implement thing, first notice. Yeah, maybe I've seen that system some day, but never actually seen it in real life, never used it. I mean, maybe it's generalized in some places in europe, not here. The reason for buying the reversible version, which was by the way about 2k euro more expensive (I'm talking about 2016 prices) was precisely for mowing. Mowing backwards is the correct way to do it, but neck pain is guaranteed after several hours backing up. We are absolutelly happy with the decision of getting the reversible option. No doubt about it.
Brilliant video. In Europe we tend to have a set of quick 3 point hitch balls on each tractor and then just swap them from one machine to another. Saves on cost and time.
You are right it would be faster and easier. Just most farms here tend to run different make or model tractors and there can be slight differences in the 3 point balls. So normally less hassle to use the ones supplied with the tractor.
On our farm, the bulk of the machines are cat 2 pins, but the tractors are a mix of cat 2 and cat 3 hook ends. Find it easiest to carry the correct balls on each tractor. No need for bushings.

Yes! Mowers out front make the most logical sense. Someone else mentioned Iowa Farm Equipment featuring front mount flail mowers. Lets see what they have! Thanks for this demo.! Super smooth & mulched appearance, much better than a rotary brush cutter!
I should reach out to Iowa Farm Equipment. I would love it if they reach out to me. However, their front mowers are very expensive. I didn't say "front mowers do not exist"...at least I didn't intend to say that. Rather, my point is that they are so limited in availability that they are still priced unreasonably high. We need them to be more 'standard' so that the volumes justify more competitive pricing.
Tim, I always knew that you really did know if you are coming or going ;-). Good to see the tractor in action after having seen it at the show. It will be fun to see the follow up on it later. Blessings.
As you mentioned Oliver and also Ford had the ball hooks for a few years. And now most if not all the front 3 points use the Euro ball arms. My Branson 8050 came with that type of arm and I went with a quick hitch for a couple of years, then I got sick of trying to fit in and under the quick hitch for the pto's and started using the ball ends and discovered that they were nicer and easier then a quick hitch.
I just did some mowing where a lot of backing up mowing was needed and now I have a saw neck from turning over my shoulder. All I could think about was how much easier it would be with a front mower
Dunno why Maschio doesn't ship pass-through as standard to the US. This tractor a badge version of another manufacturer and there's a variety of additional equipment like a bull-cage for the engine end, side counterweights and they can actually be equipped with a form of narrow that can also be added as dual tires and can even use doubled tires. You can get a much large cab interior space but to be honest that's just a lot more glass to keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter as well as run into trees and bushes. Some models also have the capability of adding a basic 3point or quick-hitch on the engine end (not a full hitch but useful none-the-less) To be very honest the bull-cage adds a nice small amount of counterweight and is very useful around bushes, trees and other such random obsticles. I really wouldn't buy one of these without the half or full height bull cage.
I agree with you on how nice it is to have the mower in front. I have a 20 acre tree farm that I do upkeep on so the saplings have a chance to grow and not get overtaken by the dog fennel and other weeds that would crowd it out and stunt the growth rate (I'm in NC btw). After looking long and hard I went with the Kubota F2690 (front PTO w/25 hp diesel) with the Peruzzo 1600 flail mower (63" cut). Yes I got from Iowa Farm Equipment and had shipped to my Kubota dealer. I can cut thru 1" material if I have to when doing some clean up work around the perimeter of the property. The nice thing is I can also get a finishing mower if I want from Kubota which gives and outstanding cut. Granted it is not a tractor but a dedicated mower. It's 4wd, highly maneuverable, and uses very little diesel. I went with this vs the Ventrac because I have other Kubota equipment and my dealer is really good. I couldn't imagine cutting on my property with a rear mounted mower or flail mower after using this. The only thing I would have wished for would have been an enclosed cab because of the heat in the south and the bugs.
We bought a Gravel Commercial 430 (??) tractor in the early ‘70s that had a front mounted mower. There was a driveshaft from the PTO to the mower. The spindles had slip clutches. It was a beast of a mower… grass, weeds, brush up to an inch was no problem. Turning radius around trees was a weak point… I mow that same property now with a zero turn and it is far more maneuverable… but busted spindles have been a repeated problem!
It's a great idea for front facing attachments where ground engaugeing is not as important. My kids' ranch, not a farm, needs skid steer functionality with front facing attachments far more than ground engaugeing. Think Ventrack use vs tractor use on a larger scale and more land. Cats are an essential pain on the ranch too..
imho it's great for open pastures but the same flail mower is perfect on a tractor with a boom for doing ditches and around creeks and under trees. Sure makes it look good!
I've thought the same thing about some implements working better with a front-mount situation. I've been wanting to up my snow-removal game a bit, and started by looking at rear blades. But then thought, Why not get a front blade that attaches to the loader? So you're not running over the snow and compacting some of it before moving it. So am looking at those now.
Very cool setup!! You might want to consider hitting the "wildflower area" with RoundUp a time or two before tilling and planting the wildflowers. Otherwise they may be choked out by whatever is growing there now.
Tractor looks pretty narrow, did it feel stable? In my experience flails do need to cut low. I would encourage a review of the Nova Tractor BCRM series ditch flail mower. It is a weapon and at a very reasonable price point. It chews like a mulcher, really impressive.
Would it be helpful to do a comparison between the Ferrari w/ the flail to Vinnie w/ its flail to compare cut quality and speed? I know Vinnie is half the power but I think they may compare closer than you think. Great video Christie!!! Tim, your contributions were pretty good as well, 🤣🤣🤣
I am with you, I have wanted a front mower on my tractor. I hate having to back my rear mower into places, when a front mower would work much better. As my tractor has FLOAT mode on the loader with skid steer detach point, a mower with its own height adjustment wheels would work. I just would need a way to power the mower. Lot to think about. Maybe hydraulic powered instead of PTO drive. Not so sure that would work thou.
We have the capability using the front PTO on our smaller tractors to add a front mower/brush hog. We just need to figure out how to adjust mowing height. And by tipping the mower up it would be much easier to clean the mower like on the Grass Hopper mower.
@@TractorTimewithTim so the manufacturer builds a mower to work in the opposite direction maybe even universal and change the gearing. I really don't see it being that difficult.
@@ranger6x660agreed. Not would it be difficult to put a 540 PTO on the front of the tractor. The point is…this is easily solved, but manufacturers seem to think it isn’t worth it. Crazy missed opportunity. One big mfr does it, all others would follow almost immediately.
Hello. There is additional equipment to be fitted afterwards so that you can get pto and lifting arms on your smaller John Deere tractors as well. For example 1026 but also your other John Deere tractors. And another tip suggestion is that there are flail mowers with pto and lift arm connection both forward and backward in the same machine so you can choose forward or backward without having to rebuild from forward to backward. The walk-behind tractor you test drive in that video also has the option of mounting a loader and since it is a walk-behind tractor, it will be next as a wheel loader and also the possibility of mounting loaders both front and rear. There is probably the possibility to mount on lifting arms and front pto as well. 🚜❗️
That looks fantastic. And the ease of cutting looks great. My yard is looking like that field so I may need to borrow it because, well you know I can’t mow with my tractor. I had to park it. 😅
When I was a young boy dad brought home a Bolens articulated mower. Deck was mostly suspended by the power unit but did have two small wheels out front. I do not remember if it was 2 or 3 blades but cut quality was great. A much smaller version of Vinny now that I think about it.
I love it , have been cursing the mowers I've used to maintain pastures here for last 45 year. Nothing dumber than running the tires over the stuff before the mower can cut it. I've even tried going backward. Course that idea has it's problems but if you've let the pasture go to seed ....
Tim, this is awesome! I've wanted one of these for a long time! Maybe sometime you could demo an Antonio Carraro SRX 7600 with joystick controls for the 3 point. They have some really neat features that I think would be interesting to see you cover.
Great video Tim. I enjoyed it. You made the comment that there weren’t other front mowers. A lot of golf courses use real mowers that are usually front or in front of the wheels. My other question or comment is on a flow mower. It is basically pushing as it cuts forward, everything is going forwardtoward the tractor as you drag it behind when you stick this in front is it pushing it out in front or is the orientation rolling into what you’re cutting if that makes sense
I have seen/watched a tractor that could be driven either forward or rearward (as this tractor does). The person I knew that had that tractor were rice farmers. The tractor while usable as a traditional tractor, was purchased to cut levees in the rice fields. He would even do contract cutting levees.
Never realized they use different style of linkages (and other things like lighting) in North-America until I went to a tour in the JD factory in Mannheim with work. It was interesting to see both US and Euro versions next to each other on the assembly line.
Oliver was definitely ahead of the others for the 40's - 50's - 60's in many ways. I liked the Oliver 3pt hitch idea. It works great for the smaller equipment in cat 0-2 for the most part. I am annoyed mostly by the lack of manufacturers following the standard, so quick hitches work uniformly. I have 4 brands of attachment, and only 2 of them are quick hitch compatible, and of the two, I have to adjust the hitch to use either. Alright, I'm done with my soap box.
That tractor would be perfect for mowing!! I’d like to see a slightly larger model. Is there a way to switch the seat, steering wheel, and pedals around and maybe use it with a loader? I’m sure that it’s not cheap either!
could you put an offset motorised mower towed on the back to finish quicker . seen mowers that can be behind or extend to be offset or offset it by angling the drawbar .
@@TheDumpTrailerGuyLLCride quality was not my concern. Destroying the yard, inability to drive on the road (practically), Confined operator station with hindered visibility. Poor efficiency for hydraulic mowers…75 hp required for 5-6 ft mower.
Italian and Slovenian reversible tractors are popular in Australia, especially as specialty tractors for tree farming and steep terrain tractoring. We were very tempted to buy a 60hp Antonio Carraro tractor but they were just too expensive compared to a standard tractor. They say these tractors are wonderful when they are running…. When they are not they are a pain in the arse to fix. Even very simple tasks like changing an oil filter can take time and be complex. If you want to see an amazing machine look up the scrub claw. Australian ingenuity combined with a reversible tractor.
@russellsmith3825 according to Tractor Data 2014 was last year New Holland made them. I've been looking to purchase one for a couple of years. If you have information that some company is mfg this type of tractor I'd be interested in the information
Tim it looks like it's time for an implement barn or lean to. For all that stuff behind you. All the stuff we put under three sided car ports last years longer and resell way better when the time comes. I wonder how that will work with a disc or sickle cutter for haying.
Alan's factory outlet are great to do business with. They've never let us down I can send you pictures of some of our carports. Their Nationwide also. Feel free to hide this comment if it violates some kind of rule. Thanks for all the work you do showing us what's out there. We've got a 1 series and two JD 5 series that have several of your ideas on them 🤠.
Really weird to hear that front mowers and/or reversible operating stations are uncommon or even rare in the US, as you said its the logical thing to do and pretty much standard here in Europe. though with Reversible OS being not the most common thing mowers are usually just run in the front Hitch often in combo with an offset version on the back
By running my Del Morino Centurion flail mower shifted out to the side, it encounters the grass without the tractor running over it first. So it has the benefit of being out front, while still being pulled behind.
Oliver 50 and 55 series tractors used that same ball type lift arm couplers from 1960 to 1976. John Deere used them from the late 90’s to a few years ago.
Apparently you've never heard of Iowa Farm Equipment. They specialize in front mount mulchers. Then again, Kubota F series and Grand L will both take front mount flail mowers. Iowa Farm Equipment can set up a lot of different tractors with a lot of different flails.
You guys are impossible. There is a HUGE difference between one manufacturer providing a specialty mower at a specialty price than common, higher volume sales, competitively priced options. Good grief.
I kinda wonder how the updated version of this tractor would stack up against a Antonio Carraro of a similar make. Further, the longer term reliability of both. even though it may not be in the wheelhouse so to speak maybe a good look over a Antonio Carraro Tigrecar 5800 for the giggles of all, since I believe it looks like those have a 3 point mount off the back. If nothing else then to have a peek at a estate/farm/acreage transporter.
I'd be a little worried using that setup in rougher conditions: for example if not sure where rocks are it's often helpful to raise flail mower or rotary cutter and take off some foliage on first pass to clear visibility... I'd worry about the debris hitting the tractor esp the cab glass (same reason you don't want to stand behind an operating cutter).
The rotor spins the other direction…away from the tractor. There is a roller right behind the rotor which sits firmly on the ground behind the rotor…making it essentially impossible to through stuff backwards. I have seen it pitch a bit of stuff forward a few feet, but NOTHING like a rotary cutter
Thanks. What I was primarily referencing tho is if you have rocky areas and can't see the large rocks, you sometimes need to run it first with unit, and thus roller, off the ground, to let you clear enough to see.
@@TractorTimewithTim do you think you could mount one under the tractor like a belly mower? I would like that. I wouldn’t have to worry about getting into a stump or anything large and solid. You could use a low brush guard or a loader to feel with. Our property was clear cut fifty years ago and we run into skidder cables and all kinds of junk. Found a doodle bug tractor once with a Ford 4000 and a 6’ bush hog. Not cool.
There are several Italian manufacturers that make that style tractor. They need to be upgraded to hydrostatic transmissions. They are a tough sell over here as we are hung up on not buying a tractor without a front end loader
I haven’t ever seen a 4-wheel Ferrari tractor stateside. I think BCS owns the Ferrari name. The BCS rental fleet were ferrari branded. I have a Ferrari 339, similar to BCS 739.
What are opinions on Grasshopper mowers? I would be interested in thoughts on a 61” deck and snowblower. I live in rural central Illinois, 3 acre of rolling lawn, ditch bank, and 500 ft gravel driveway.
@@TractorTimewithTim If you ever want a project, we are building our forever house and have a lot of outdoor projects to tackle. Grading/maintaining a gravel driveway, buying our first tractor/mower, seeding grass, building trellises for a vineyard, putting in a big garden, clearing trail through forest and preserving a small stream.
Can you put the wheels out wider on that tractor, I am wondering how it would perform on side hills. It looks like it would be great with a snowblower and the Baumalight mulcher.
It is so narrow it would not do well on my steep hills. Love the concept. Hate having to overlap the wheel width to get grass cut. On 14 acres of grass it really adds up.😊
What would be the downsides of attaching a rotary mower and essentially running it backwards. We mow backwards quite a lot with our rotary mower to get in under trees and other kinds of things?

I've thought the same thing about some implements working better with a front-mount situation. I've been wanting to up my snow-removal game a bit, and started by looking at rear blades. But then thought, Why not get a front blade that attaches to the loader? So you're not running over the snow and compacting some of it before moving it. So am looking at those now.
Very cool setup!!
You might want to consider hitting the "wildflower area" with RoundUp a time or two before tilling and planting the wildflowers. Otherwise they may be choked out by whatever is growing there now.
Ferrari Tractors are the Best.
Can't wait for your review of the later model next year. Flail mower worked well.
I'm surprised that more front mowing mowers aren't available. I've always noticed that the golf courses like using them.
I'd love to try that out with my rear 3 point snowblower! I'm freezing up here in NW Wisc.
We have the capability using the front PTO on our smaller tractors to add a front mower/brush hog. We just need to figure out how to adjust mowing height. And by tipping the mower up it would be much easier to clean the mower like on the Grass Hopper mower.
Sorta. PTO spins at totally different speed, and in the opposite direction.
Ha!
I agree thats the best way to mow.
Watched a Canadian video of a tractor like this with a crazy snowblower on it that cleans up nice
I have seen/watched a tractor that could be driven either forward or rearward (as this tractor does). The person I knew that had that tractor were rice farmers. The tractor while usable as a traditional tractor, was purchased to cut levees in the rice fields. He would even do contract cutting levees.
Might have been a Valtra. They have models with reversible seats, and there’s a small extra steering wheel, clutch, and brake pedal at the back.
Never realized they use different style of linkages (and other things like lighting) in North-America until I went to a tour in the JD factory in Mannheim with work. It was interesting to see both US and Euro versions next to each other on the assembly line.
Tim, In your opinion, is Flail Mower better than Bush Hog? That tractor setup was cool to watch. Thanks, Tim & Christy
We were wanting a thorough mulching for this. So yes, flail better for this.
Seems like a good idea for some applications
Imagine how impressed you would be with a skid steer where everything you do is infront of you. pretty awesome tractor and a very good finish cut
Would not be fun to mow this guys backyard with a skid steer.
Skid steers are amazing, but not the first choice for everything.
@@TractorTimewithTim I think you would be shocked at how good they ride, you can even get them with track suspension
@@TheDumpTrailerGuyLLCride quality was not my concern.
Destroying the yard, inability to drive on the road (practically),
Confined operator station with hindered visibility. Poor efficiency for hydraulic mowers…75 hp required for 5-6 ft mower.
Stay safe in the coming days been watching that hurricane they say you're going to get some of that high winds possible lot of tornadoes stay safe
That mower kind of reminds me of that kids' game hungry hungry hippos
Italian and Slovenian reversible tractors are popular in Australia, especially as specialty tractors for tree farming and steep terrain tractoring. We were very tempted to buy a 60hp Antonio Carraro tractor but they were just too expensive compared to a standard tractor.
They say these tractors are wonderful when they are running….
When they are not they are a pain in the arse to fix. Even very simple tasks like changing an oil filter can take time and be complex.
If you want to see an amazing machine look up the scrub claw. Australian ingenuity combined with a reversible tractor.
If I’m remembering right that’s the type of top link we had on our John Deere 2510. (1966 model). Did they stop using that on larger tractors?
We using those on carraro tractors for many years and it's even better now with hydraulic transmission.
You like their hydrostatic transmission?
I 100% agree, I would love to have the deck out front...
That looks pretty slick
New Holland and Versatille had ag tractors I believe 140 hp that did this. Unfortunately they stopped mfg them over 10 yrs ago.
I think they still make the bi-directional
@russellsmith3825 according to Tractor Data 2014 was last year New Holland made them. I've been looking to purchase one for a couple of years. If you have information that some company is mfg this type of tractor I'd be interested in the information
@@jerryfischer3988 I know kanequip had one for sale recently, and there is one near protection KS that might be available soon
Ford/Versitile stopped building their bi-directional tractor was, in large part, prone to catching fire due to electrical issues.
Awesome video. I like the tractor and the mower
Hi Tim awesome video I was wondering if you could do some more videos on your 5075e thanks have a good day
Tim it looks like it's time for an implement barn or lean to. For all that stuff behind you. All the stuff we put under three sided car ports last years longer and resell way better when the time comes. I wonder how that will work with a disc or sickle cutter for haying.
Yep. Gonna have to do something. This is unsustainable.
Really weird to hear that front mowers and/or reversible operating stations are uncommon or even rare in the US, as you said its the logical thing to do and pretty much standard here in Europe. though with Reversible OS being not the most common thing mowers are usually just run in the front Hitch often in combo with an offset version on the back
We rarely have front hitches. It is crazy!
By running my Del Morino Centurion flail mower shifted out to the side, it encounters the grass without the tractor running over it first. So it has the benefit of being out front, while still being pulled behind.
Can’t wait to see the new model
Oliver 50 and 55 series tractors used that same ball type lift arm couplers from 1960 to 1976. John Deere used them from the late 90’s to a few years ago.
Didn’t I say that in the video?
Partially. But I also hit the send button before I got to that part.
Good grief.
I believe you meant to say "Actually". 🤣
Id love to have unit to mow like that, almost my whole neck is fused so I can't turn around to see the mower on the back.
Awesome tractor Tim. And i agree front mowing is the way to go. Do you know when or if the Ferrari tractor line will be availible in Canada?
Can you offset the mower to work around fence line? How replacing a belly mower with one?
No offset on this one. Higher end Maschio mowers have that feature.
Yep, when equipped with your blades, makes a nice lawn mower.
These type of tractors would be amazing with a snowblower too. Especially something like a Prevost PXPL.
I haven’t ever seen a 4-wheel Ferrari tractor stateside.
I think BCS owns the Ferrari name. The BCS rental fleet were ferrari branded.
I have a Ferrari 339, similar to BCS 739.
Have u tried a quick hitch for three point hitch
What are opinions on Grasshopper mowers? I would be interested in thoughts on a 61” deck and snowblower. I live in rural central Illinois, 3 acre of rolling lawn, ditch bank, and 500 ft gravel driveway.
Lots of folks love em.
Nice tractor, totally agree the U.S should start building 1 an selling them
Looks like a beautiful machine
Been watching you for years now tim
Thanks!
Good job guys
very interesting machine. great video and looking forward to learning more about the Ferrari tractor.
Been waiting for this ever since I saw it at the NFMS this year.
Me too!
This is really neat. I can't afford to replace my JD 4052 Cab model, but this would be on a short list if I was buying new.
Wow! A 75hp Ventrac !
Kubota makes a factory front flail mower for the grand L tractors. Not inexpensive but looks nice. I’d love to have one for my L6060
My dream!!! I long for a front mount mower!
Price on this machine?
Great looking tractor
You said the neighbor wants to plant up this area with wildflowers. Any idea where the seeds will come from? I have an acre field where I want to do the same thing this coming spring, but the seeds I've found so far are pretty pricey!
I think this landowner mentions where he got his wildflower seed:

I agree with you 💯
Awesome tractor!
