Your words and advice are spot on. I recall when I started a new position 3 years ago and felt like an idiot. Then one day I realized I was settled and felt I knew what I was doing. What a great feeling that was! You are doing great, Rachel. Hang in there. I am leaning in for that big hug. ❤
Thank you so much for that message, Rachel! 💕 I have been a nurse for two years and just became a new CVICU nurse (been off orientation for 4 months now) and it is been super tough, totally experiencing imposter syndrome. I'm just trying to take a deep breath, reflect and recover. I made two mistakes that weren't severe but were not ok either, and it's been haunting me. I'm also very much burnout and I think this is linked to my mistakes. Just a hard moment for me but I will get through it. ✨
I admire you a lot, ik being a doctor is hard and I thank you for doing this I see the hard work that doctors do, I will always be grateful to doctors for helping me deliver my baby girl safely and did everything they could to keep me safe and my daughter, I love watching your videos because I see that you love your job a lot thanks for making time to make videos and show us what is being being a female doctor☺️
Don't worry about speed!! It's how mistakes are made and lil things are missed that can become major things. I'm speaking from personal experience, learned my lesson roughly. Just do your best AT YOUR OWN PACE. Or you will end up in front of a family with your staff in a court room
I want everyone to know that I don’t stare at the clock once or think about the timing of my C-section. It’s at the end when the attending has told me how efficient I was. And not every c section is like that. Some take an hour. Some take 45 minutes. It really just depends. But by all means, there’s not a single moment during any case that I think about the clock. C-sections are too quick paced and involved to have a single thought away from the patient or baby. 👍👍👍👍👍Hope that clarified for the people who don’t operate.
Do you really enjoy cooking after coming back from work? If I had a long day at work, I would prefer to buy something to eat and have more "me" time instead of spending another hour cooking.
Its funny you discussed election. Will the new laws pertaining to women's reproductive rights that are coming up effect you as a Ob/gyn? Im asking because here in AL my recent GYN visit seemed weird. They are severly short staffed and took a long time to do routine things.
While I’m in residency, I don’t think it will impact me as an OBGYN. I train at a catholic hospital, so we actually have pretty strict laws that we have to abide by under the hospital, unfortunately. I am in California, fortunately. So I feel that we are pretty protected and supported from an OBGYN standpoint in how we treat and what our patients are able to do with their bodies.
Sweetie, you seem really sad and disheartened. I know you're exhausted and this path hasn't turned out at all like you thought. Please know there are other paths. There are other ways you can help people other than killing yourself like this. Life is so precious and a gift that we take for granted. No one would think twice if you and Patrick sat down and decided your mental, physical, and soul health is not worth this torture. Please be kind to yourself. You have but one life to live with the love of your life.❤
I love the path I’m on! I feel like I reiterate that a lot in my videos. Not every day is wonderful like any other job, but I love OBGYN and I love my patients. Not to mention that I’m trying to document my life (which I also love doing). but many weeks I’m filming while I’m really burnt after working 80hrs weeks. it is REALLY hard on anyone! I love what I do. What I share are critiques of the residency training system and these are things that can be improved.
The path to being a doctor is not an easy one...but it's a calling...and I applaud Dr. Rachel is sharing her life story every week. She's an amazing spirit ❤️

Cooking for yourself CAN be me time if you can shift your mindset. There are so many benefits. ❤
I enjoy taking that time cooking to bond with Patrick. It’s our quality time together. So it’s actually really lovely and something I look forward to.

You might have answered this already, tengo pregunta, do you have a MD or a DO? And is there truly a difference in between the two? 🤔

You seem to be very unhappy with your job in most blogs.
I am happy with my career :) the system we train in could be improved.
