Had over 13k stole from my vehicle while being serviced now have a date in court. Hoping it play out well. I don’t understand why they can go in my glovebox anyways without me signing anything?
Worked at one for 3 years while in college. Service Dept. was very strict and by the book. Never had any issues with horror stories like this. Think about it a minute. Walmart has tons of locations that have service centers and rarely do you hear about disasters like this. Any place that does automotive work can have stories like that. Any dealer etc. Am I saying they are the best to go to? No. But they are safe for the most part. I always say “just do your own maintenance if you can!” Nobody is going to treat your vehicle like you do....
We have fairly strict quality control standards at the location I work at (torque is checked 3 times over on tire jobs, for example). There are also cameras everywhere and any job is subject to audit by a manager at any time.
We also do a figure 8 before doing a re-torque, at least 2 people do the torque. I understand the walmart perception but it's an unfair characterization of many big box stores
I work at a Walmart Auto Center and trust me, we’re not all bad. Our manager stays on our heads about keeping our customers happy and doing our job right. They also pay us $15 an hour to do it so you better believe we don’t want to get fired😂
I used to also work at a Walmart Auto Center. I had the worst experience ever. At first I loved the job, but all of a sudden, all the good workers were leaving and getting better jobs, and then we slowly started getting idiots and extremely rude people coming in here. Overtightening lug nuts, not properly mounting tires, leaving drain bolts/oil filters loose, that’s all I dealt with. I could NOT take it there. I’m so happy I left. I’m sorry but I don’t recommend filling out an application to one.
Been working as a TLE associate 6 years never had these issues very strict seen a few newbies fired for minor mess ups but nothing has happened like people rumor about I've ever seen
My daughter had the oil changed in Tennessee at Wal-Mart they forgot to put the oil back in it. If I had not been there the motor would have blown up. I don't trust them to change my oil on a bike that doesn't have a motor anymore
Keep up the good work Nate, love your videos, informative, straight to the point, and your definitely genuine about this topic, I appreciate the work brother
dont ever ever ever use anti seize on lugs. it prevents the nut from achieving the proper torque, gets all over absolutely everything, and actually dries up and causes corrosion.
It can skew the torque if you have too much, but if you use it right and don’t glob it on the stud it will save many studs from being broken or stripped due to seized lug nuts which is why it is a standard for most in the industry. and corrosion, idk what you’re trying to used but not the correct anti seize.
I had a mechanic do brakes on my vehicle and the lug nuts didn't get tightened and one of my wheels fell off while driving. Luckily for me it happened when I was only going around 15 mph at the time. Had my car towed to his shop and he was mad at me! Now, I learn how to fix vehicles and do it myself.
for sure happens everywhere, theres always one bad mechanic that messes up and it looks like the whole company is at fault, but there will always be that one bad mechanic everywhere
I think it's important to look at reviews of any business. Some of the Walmart Auto Care Centers have much higher reviews than others. I have had bad luck with lowly reviewed Walmarts, and good luck with highly reviewed Walmarts. The one that was lowly reviewed failed to put the oil cap back on about 22 years ago (which that same Walmart is reviewed very lowly these days), then I never went back until about 2 years ago, but highly reviewed only. I've had no problems with the technicians except taking too long. I have had a problem with Walmart guaranteeing delivery of tires, then lying saying my card refused. The card company said that wasn't true and it was Walmart that refused. I talked them down 15% on the price of the same tires once they got them in. Walmart also said they sold my tires to someone else, so 2 stories.
The impact wrench has a color coded twisted metal socket set to a certain torque. For example the grey one may be set to 100ft lbs. that socket is used to put the lugs down. The the torque wrench is used once by the tech who bolts the tire and wheel down, twice by a different tech who verified the torque. The vehicle is then driven is a figure eight pattern and the lugs are torqued a third time. The ACC also offers a free re torque of the lugs after 50 miles.
Walmart policy and procedures 1. Screw on the lugnuts by hand. To insure they are not cross threaded. 2 torque them down with impact wrench. 3 torque them down to manufacture specs.(Looked up in book) 3 a second person quality check, torque s them again, then the car is driven in a figure 8 out back and re-torqued a 3Rd time in front of the camera. Accidents can and do happen at all repair and service shops. Negligent employees, and lazy employees happen at all service and repair shop. This video isn't a fair judgment of walmart.
I'd avoid using an impact gun on my lug nuts. They aren't checking torque after they i.pact those lugs, they are checking minimum torque. The torque applied can be MUCH higher than recommended and tested for.
i had 4 tires installed, not a problem, but a few weeks later, i went to retrieve my emergency battery charger that i kept under the drivers seat. it was gone! A very expensive piece of equipment was gone. How do i jnow it was a Walmart tech? No one else had been in my car except me, no other service work, no other drivers, no one. Could it have gone missing before i took the car to Walmart? No, I had no other work done on the car since the llast time i recharged my emergency unit. I do my own regular oil changes and my kids have their own cars and do not drive mine. If you decide to use Walmart, make sure to remove any valuable items from the passenger compartment and trunk.
I've heard horror stories. I'm not sure how accurate they are. Cars not having oil put back in after being drained. Tires backing off like you mentioned. I know they are cheap but I wouldn't risk the headache of something happening to my truck. Thanks for the video.
I personally have never had a bad experience at Walmart Lube Express or Tire Center, beyond a 3-4 hour wait for an oil change and tire rotation @ 8am on a Saturday morning. However, I simply stopped using them around the time COVID-19 pandemic hit in February 2020 as everyone in Southern WI ALL closed down for months. It was at that point, I started using a local repair shop that had evening and Saturday hours.
I go in tomorrow for a walk through and interview. If hired, like every job I've had, I will ensure everything is done correctly. I do not tolerate half ass work. I don't care about protocols. If I'm not happy and comfortable, that vehicle is not moving.
I went in for a flat and the worker said both front tires needed to be changed. Then they could'nt change my tlat because the rim was bent. But they went ahead and put a new tire on the other side. And charged me 92.00 dollars! In addition i told them not to charge me for a rotation but they did. I am pissed off and i am going there to Express that. 92.00 dollars is alot of money. Seems to me like its all about making money who cares about the poor people.
Had a guy come in yesterday with massive cupping of his front tires thinking that new tires are going to help I put his new tires on the back so they wouldn't ruin them and took his halfway decent once in the back of moving to the front and told he needs new shocks upper A-Arms inner tie rods now he's put the new tires on the back anyways that's the rule of thumb I'm buying two tires even on a four-wheel drive within the millimeters after about a half-hour argument he he said thank you I'll go have a look at it a shot
They do a good job for most part....they sonetimes overtighten lug nuts though and even filters , drain plugs. Always check your oil after a change....I change my own oil
I know everyone personally at my local Walmart so I can trust them since they have a background on working on cars. Never had a problem and will continue going until they’re fired or quit
Ok I had new tires put on at Wal-Mart when I left my traction service light was on as well as my brake assist service light and my brake lights are staying on as this was the last vechicle for the night when I called the manager said they had had 3 other complaints and was sending a email to the service department and I'd have to wait until morning for answers
they don't pay us Walmart tle 25 bucks an hour I get 15 bucks an hour to deal with and we never have enough people so you might end up getting the frozen dairy guy doing an oil change

This happens all the time. I had tires put on and drove over Echo Summit in Lake Tahoe to San Francisco and when I stopped a man told me that nuts were rolling around in my hubcap. Two of them. I had just driven with 4 children in the car. Another time I had new tires put on in Reno and drove over Spooner Summit and midway after climbing the summit, my car was hard to handle. I stopped at a gas station in the early morn, like 7 am and there were loose bolts on my front tires. My car wobbled all over the place. You have to stay on top of it when getting your tires changed. Both times I could have done a Thelma and Louise
Transfer pump, i would prefer not to use that in most all cases. But for each his own. Once again thank you for taking the time to share some information with the NIA community.
What can you tell us about Walmart Auto Care Center?
I worked there for 9 months it was a very horrible place i hated it i only trusted myself and even then i had to follow their garbage policy
It may have been a fluke, but 2 different times I got my van back after tire installation and a lug was snapped off. Both on the same hub even.

I can confirm that, they fixed my flat tire for $15, made sure the tpms light went away and checked torque one last time before handing over my key
We also do a figure 8 before doing a re-torque, at least 2 people do the torque. I understand the walmart perception but it's an unfair characterization of many big box stores

Honestly, I have never had a problem at Walmart Tire and Auto.
It just depends on the technicians that work there and there integrity.

They do not put the tire stem where the white circle is. Also when they balance the tires they put on a BIG weight instead of breaking it down.

Walmart services a lot of cars and employees get a lot of experience. More then traditional service shops. I know I did 10k+ oil changes for them.
