  • Learn how to replace your fuel pressure regulator in your Chevy Lumina the correct way. Your regulator takes vacuum from the intake manifold and allows fuel to be pressurized in your fuel rail for optimal fuel delivery to your injectors and then eventually into your piston chambers.

    I did make a mistake in the process. I did not remove all the fuel from the fuel rail (it was pressurized). You need to go behind the power steering pump and drain the fuel into a cup (WATCH OUT because it will shoot out since its pressurized). In the video I simply take the footage from the ending and put it in the middle to show you the schrader valve that you need to depressurize. I hope this is not confusing. Anyways... enjoy the video...

    This video was so helpful! I wish I would have looked it up yesterday. I couldn't figure out how to separate the fuel line from the regulator but. To unfasten the screw, I used just the star bit and a 1/4 inch wrench which was also frustrating when I dropped the bit a couple times. Thank you for making this video, now I'm actually going to get it changed instead of just practicing how to detach and refasten.

    Thank you so much, Sir! I don't like second-guessing myself but I was doing this for my mom's vehicle. It just actually took a bunch of WD-40. I'm just glad that I got all of the pressure out of the tubes before I had to take out and chose to just clean the throttle body. This is probably one of the best how to on TH-cam!

    I did this on my 2004 Buick Century in about 15 minutes. Well the second time after installing a bad regulator (grr). I didn’t remove the throttle body but merely stuck open the cruise control with a screw driver to get burnout if the way and backed off the outer throttle body bolt. Took me awhile to learn all that.

    so to prevent your fuel spillage you can pull the fuel pump relay and then start the car it will empty the rail and then stall out due to lack of fuel in the rail then once you are done replacing the regulator just key cycle the ignition a couple times without starting the engine to re pressurize your fuel rail

      Note working on fuel systems may be a good job for a professional. Always wear safety glasses. What works for me is this: Vehicle must be fully cold. Have a fire extinguisher close by. Safety first. Start vehicle, let run for say 30 seconds, then pull fuel pump relay/fuse. Let vehicle stall, turn off ignition and remove key. Let vehicle cool. Put paper towels around any fuel lines that may leak fuel.
      I do this for any fuel line work, including fuel filter. Spraying fuel on a hot exhaust component is very dangerous. I have used the process of pulling fuel relay for Audis, Volvo, Oldsmobile, and Dodge Neon.
      One time a I had misfire CEL come up from vehicle stalling, I cleared code and it did not come back.

    • @Snowdog216
      @Snowdog216 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the regulator is leaking, the system will depressurize at some time. Not sure if that is after say 12 hours or 3 days? And is there pressure on the non leaking side? No idea. Best to pull relay/fuse.

    Here's a trick I found; Notice that there's a hole in the bracket where the TV/throttle/cruise control cables enter? You can feed a long socket extension or long 1/4" bit extension through this hole and not have to remove a damn thing other than moving the PCV and vacuum tube to the side. I zip tied the throttle wide open to have clearance for a socket and extension.

      Yes I used channel locks on the top nut and a combo wrench on the bottom, and used some penetrating oil. Make sure you are loosening the bottom one by going to the right. It is an reverse thread since it is a fuel line.

    • @jris
      @jris 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    1) Nonsense. It’s easy to unscrew the bolt and line nut without removing anything.
    2) Before working on the fuel line, start the engine & pop out the fuel pump relay until the engine stops. Voila! Fuel de-pressurized.
    3) Before starting up, prime the fuel system by turning the key to ‘on’ about five times, then start the engine.
