  • Learn how to change a fuel pressure regulator on 350ci LT1 or LT4 engine. Replacing the fuel pressure regulator (fpr) is a similar process for almost all cars and this video is a great reference!
    Here is the fuel pressure regulator I used (good price too):

    Chris, You are still helping us out with this video you did 10 years ago. These things develop odd leaks. Mine was leaking maybe 3 times over 3 months. I would smell fuel in the car for maybe 5 minutes and then go away. I thought it was a plugged vent line. Just checked the Fuel Pressure Regulator before checking the vent lines. Started the engine no leak. Pulled the vacuum line and it leaked bad on the non-vacuum side of the diaphragm. Thank you Chris.

    It can be a number of things... I would check a few things to get an idea of where your problem is... Check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge ($20 online). It should read around 40psi when you just turn the key to the run position and it should not bleed down. You should also check the wires. Run the car at night in the dark and take a spray bottle with water and spray near the exhaust manifolds. If you see sparks, you need new wires. That should be a good start. Report back!

  • @chrisfix
    @chrisfix  11 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Well if you are going to change the wires, change the plugs too (I have a video on how to do that on the Vette). Is it missing when you put a load on it? Like if you are cruising along and then step on the gas hard, does it stumble? If so, it might be the optispark

    It is just one O-ring and you can clearly see it at 5:06 ... I would replace the O-ring because it is a cheap part and failure of this part could catch your car on fire... For now if you take the O-ring off, soak it with a little motor oil, then put it back on, it might hold for a little (to get to the parts store)... But leaking fuel is very bad so get a new O-ring asap!

    One thing that comes to mind is that your injectors are leaking. This would cause the gas to leak into your cylinders and any blow-by at all would cause an excess amount of fuel to go into your oil. Plus, this would cause carbon build up on the plugs. When you start the Vette, if you tap the gas to rev it up quickly, does the exhaust make a popping sound? Leaking injectors can be caused by a damaged fuel pressure regulator, but I think it is more important to check to see if they are leaking.

    Mine leaks in the cold weather, too. Once the engine warms up it's fine. I have the regulator on order since it's special order...of course. Great vid!

    i saw that there has been a recall on the make and model of my car for the regulator but the tags are expired and you make it look soo easy on the video. the recall stated that the regulator was installed during manufacturing without a ring and clamp. where i see the regulator at there is most definately something leaking because it looks like dirty oil running down and also does this problem cause the car to shake violently while in reverse or drive and smell like gas?

    This morning I started mine up and for a split second I realized it wasn’t the same amount of cranks and it was really boggy… Drove it down the street, drove it back and parked it in the driveway. 20 minutes later I go to start it up and it’s just cranking now… No start, I was thinking maybe bad injectors but this looks easy enough to swap out…
    My question is, why/how did you know it needed to be changed? What were the symptoms? Mine has been running great, so much that the last time I drove it I pushed the hell out of it on an empty freeway and it did great…

    how can you do this on a 1992 cadillac deville with the 4.9 V8?

  • @chrisfix
    @chrisfix  12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If there is a recall then the dealership has to honor it... Just go and tell them that you have a recall that hasnt been fixed... It could be the reason it shakes (missing due to limited fuel at the injectors) and it could smell like fuel due to the regulator as well...

    I wonder if silicone would be okay on the o-rings, or would that run the risk of clogging the fuel system? I'd rather use silicone, because it's rubber safe and is made for o-rings.

    WOW THAT BATTERY IS SO CLOSE TO THAT FENDER I WOULD PLACE A THICK CLOTH OF SOME KIND OVER THAT FENDER TO AVOID METAL TO METAL CONTACT as HE SAID JUST IN CASE THAT RATCHET SLIPPED. GREAT JOB EXPLAINING EVERYTHING CHRIS I LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS.

    If we dont have a fuel pressure gauge, can we just disconnect the fuel pump relay and try to start car to release the pressure?

    • @blazeglitch
      @blazeglitch 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Terrance Williams pull the pump out while the car is running an it will stall an shut off. Let it crank a a few times an no pressure.

    my C4 needs to crank 2-3 times, when cold, in order to start engine.
    spark plugs, cables, air filter, flow meter, fuel filter anf injectors all replaced recently.
    do you thonk it's a fuel regulator issue?
    once it starts then it runs smoothly

    • @chrisfix
      @chrisfix  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheeAmateur Yes, that is exactly what I saw in my vette. Check out this video on how to diagnose the problem: th-cam.com/video/_oXLUqE4Sf0/w-d-xo.html

    Hey, I have a 95 camaro Z28 Lt1, and i am having a fuel pressure problem! I did go and change the spark plugs, wires and the distributor cap and roter, But it would slowly loss fuel pressure after driving for 15 or so minutes, It would idle at about 39 or 40 psi and soon get down to close to 30, What do you think i need? Thanks man!
