Phil, love this piece! I turned a jam chuck for my vases that tappers way down like a long blunt nose cone, I can jam my vases, of any throat diameter, and take that tenon off or work the base. I learn something new EVERYTIME I watch your videos. Your voice is a common sound in our house! Thank you for all you do!
Turned out beautifully. The wood is gorgeous and you highlighted it so well. You are way too humble. In the world of woodturning, you're the best. Thank you for another great video. Bless you. G and Susan in Texas
I like that the base has half bark, half natural. I think it enhances the interesting color variations that are more obvious between the heartwood and sapwood in the rest of the piece. Fun and interesting project!
Bonsoir Phil !
LOL! Cordialement, prenez soin de vous ! Jean-Luc
Phil, The master craftsman might approach a project with trepidation and a certain amount of uncertainty. But he knows his tools, begins his job and emerges with the product he envisioned. Everybody else creates scrap for the fire. Since your piece is not destined for the fire, it shows the skill of a master. Keep the aspidistra flying! God bless, Paul
Oh my goodness I had to watch that tenon removal through my fingers! The front is just where you said it is Phil. Well done, beautiful spindle turn, yay.👍😄
That's a very COOL piece Phil! I turn things to enjoy and sell so others can enjoy them and a lot of times family and friends love them so much that I generally give them away so all in all if I sat down and did the math I'm probably going in the hole which doesn't matter I'm having fun in my old days!!! Happy turning to you Phil!!!👍
That red cedar is a beautiful piece of wood. I couldn’t imagine where you were headed with it. Love your finished product. I always loved to share my favorite wood turning videos with dad, and this would have been one of them. He enjoyed them as much as me. Lost him in October. But this one would have been “dad approved!” Lovely work sir.
You are one of the biggest storytellers on TH-cam Phil. Oh I don't know how to turn spindel work. You make us laugh 😃 😀. Maybe one of the prettiest I have seen in a very long time. Thank you for sharing Phil. I hope I see you next week. Be safe
I generally believe I can do it, Albert. It's just that feeling of "I really don't know how" that causes me to doubt and take so long getting to where I want to go. 😊
Hi Phil the red cedar is beautiful wood I really love the colour of It. The vase is magnificent well done I can see why your daughter claimed it and you should be proud of it. Thanks for sharing it with us Phil. Amanda xx
I love it Phil I had the same problems with my red cedar vase, so I used my drill with 60 grit paper on a 3 inch disk and in ten minutes , problem solved worked great. Now you have given me another idea for some of my red cedar...
Hi there Phil this is very unusual but very charming emerging vase and I really do like it. You’re not going to see many of those around and that’s part of its charm.. the natural colour of that wood is absolutely gorgeous isn’t nature amazing :-)
Designers maybe, but all artists go by feel for the day or the object, and that's exactly what you do. I hope you sell your items for a good penny because even though it goes fast sometimes you always put your soul into it, that's probably what we all love to se. ❤ Carsten
Stunning Phil, For a non spindle turner you really know how to do spindle turning. The shape is fantastic and the vase flows from the base. Red Cedar is one of my favourite woods and I have one piece waiting patiently for me to turn it. Brilliant video Phil. Take care my friend. Cheers, Huw 🫖🫖
I don't like to turn Cedar, but guess what, it's so beautiful I keep on turning it. Sometimes the reward is worth the effort. You have quite an award there, I love it.
It's a Vase On A Base! (Sorry, couldn't help myself) Kidding aside, it's beautiful, and like all your pieces, unique! Thanks for all the beauty you create.
Yup, a good one! “The Scream” is teasing you. “Oh, My!” It says. You crafted it out from raw wood into a well done finished piece. And Eastern Red Cedar is a lot more colorful than our local Western Red Cedar. Thank you, Dan! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love it Phil, I can see why your daughter wants it because it’s beautiful. It’s been a couple months since I been in my workshop because of health issues and I’m looking forward to getting back to my lathe. Keep turning. Todd
I had no idea what an "emerging vase" might be. So, I had no 8dea what you were going to do. Now 5hat you're done, I certainly understand what you were aiming for. That's a spectacular piece of work. Thanks.
Hi 👋, Phil from Phil, It looks amazing, well done Phil. You should be proud of that, And I love the colour. A another piece of art. PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE.
Nice one Phil! I could hear the frustration in your voice early on , but I’m sure glad you persevered! It looks very cool. I wasn’t sure you were headed in the right direction, right up until I saw the finished vase! Cheers, Rick
That’s absolutely fantastic. I have similar looking cuts of timber and have never been sure how to work them but you’ve giving me a direction to start. You wished me well last week from my hernia operation and today was my first day back in dads workshop. Have a blessed week Phil. Thanks for all your inspiration. 👍🏻
They wood Turner is a designer. You do put designs in your bowls. You decide when to, and when not to leave the bark, leave a crack leave a hole and whatever natural artwork she stay or not. I have no doubt that this piece you’re holding will turn into a beautiful vase. You did good. The red framed by the lighter color I think it’s pretty.
I have to admit I wasn't seeing your vision until the end Phil. Its great! As you know I love cedar and the two tone beauty...plus that smell. I was in the finish the bark camp. Glad you did. Great piece Phil.
Hi Phil. I have to admit I didn't 'see it' until it was nearly done - I just couldn't see how a vase, with that side branch making a big base, was going to emerge and look 'in keeping', but it sure does, I really like it, so much so that I will be scrabbling through my wood piles for something suitable to have a go myself. Thank you, Phil, you certainly earned your spaghetti!
The words that come to mind for this one are ‘inner piece’ instead of inner peace being a play on words😉 Fabulous
😄
Phil, love this piece! I turned a jam chuck for my vases that tappers way down like a long blunt nose cone, I can jam my vases, of any throat diameter, and take that tenon off or work the base. Wow, cool, thanks, Anthony! 😊
Turned out beautifully. The wood is gorgeous and you highlighted it so well. You are way too humble. In the world of woodturning, you're the best. Thank you for another great video. Bless you.

Thank you, Susan! 😊

Nope! Ain't happening, Laura. I'm a bowel turner who dabbles now and then, reluctantly. 😊
Hi Phil. Thanks for this Phil. I have a few old cedar fence posts that I have been wanting to try something with. Now I have a great example.
Yes! Just leave some un-turned post at the bottom, it will be beautiful! 😊
