It's probably good for us to get out of our comfort zone now and again. I don't think you could turn a bad piece if you tried. Great job that brought this best the wood had to offer. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Phil, what a contrast between sapwood and heartwood. Thanks for sharing bark sanding trick also the change from tenon to recess. All good info for us novice turners.....keep 'em coming Phil.
Good Afternoon, I do like those colors so does my wife, your lucky to get some. I had to sneak out that one ...lol got plenty still. But that is spalting the tree was sick perhaps from me moving it at about a year old in 1976. I showed a piece of it to someone in the know and they said " that tree had some real issues " still a great bowl. Stay safe and be well. Dennis 8:518:51
Than you, Dennis. Good for you Phil, for trying something slightly outside your comfort zone! Ok, fat bird with bug, or dolphin, or almost any mammal curled up sleeping, head on tail, even maybe a fox head. And maybe one of your best turns ever! (And it is not what you cut away, it is what you choose to keep that counts).
Phil I think the shape you gave it show off all the features the piece has to offer. Especially the line created by the heart wood and the sap wood. And the dark line between is topping on the cake. So I like it a lot! Keep up the great work my friend, Gary
Love this bowl. Making the bowl smaller on the bottom wastes the same amount of wood, just more on the outside and less on the inside 😂 how ever there is less space on the inside.😮 I say you made the best choice. I love it.
That is some smooth looking wood you have there, Phil. I can understand why it is popular for turning. It takes a shine nicely. The dramatic contrast in color gives it character, almost like spalting. I like it. 😀
That’s a beauty, Phil! I really like the shape, though I understand your discomfort about wasting wood. The colors and bark are great too! One of my favorites of yours. 😊
First off , thanks for istening ! I was screaming at you to do a recess and you did ,And then when you you weree doing your final cuts I again yelled to " STOP " ! And you listened ! lol ! Seriously you have created another beautiful bowl ! I love that heart wood . Gorgeous ! It's been a pleasure as usual to watch your video's . Thanks for sharing and we hope you have a great weekend and week ahead .
Phil beautiful bowl and beautiful colors I still like the bigger diameter bottom bowls that you usually do but good for you for trying something new thanks for another AWSOME video Terry
Thank you Dennis for allowing and trusting Phil to turn this piece!! Bradford Pear is one of my favories woods to turn, It reveals a lot of differnt and unusual color patterns. I have a slightly twisted creative mind, I have studied this piece and I didnt see any ant eater in it AT ALL. I even could not find ANY THING at all in the bottom of this piece. You did and thats all that counts. When you were unsure if you shuld make a tennion or recess, I autimaticly said recess and that was you ended up deciding. I am alot like you, I dont like to waste wood, Some time you have to turn away some of the wood to reveal the true beautity of the piece. Like ALLWASE you turned out a BEAUTIFULL piece. You have not let me down again. It is allwase worth waching the whole video untill the end, I will allwase learn something!!!!!
I really like the wood. As always listening to your work is fun. I think I may have liked it a little better with the rounder shape to the side. I thought the shape inside the bowl reminded me of Arkansas.
Very nice Phil. When I make a bowl, I always turn the bottom this way. I think it looks better to me. But that is only my 2 cents. Thank you for sharing. See you next week. Be good
Just amazing how nature works, the colours and lines and of course the bark is really cool, I like how you tapered it up. Nice job Phil. All the best to you. Regards Jim
Another beautiful piece of art. The different colors look amazing. Lol I thought there was an owl look out of the bottom. Thanks again Phil for sharing with your TH-cam family
Woo hoo! What a cool bowl. And an inspiration. I got my hands on a small stack of Bradford pear a while back and its been drying out. Can't wait to lay a gouge against it. Thanks Phil!
Hi Phil, love this piece, it looks so smooth, and shiney, and the color variation is like a 2 tone paint job. I though the little dark crack in the inside, looked like some kind of arcade game dragon. Thanks for showing us!
That is hilarious, I've never been accused of having an imagination, but that's the first thing I thought I f when you asked what we may have seen in there.
Right from the get go that is a beautiful piece of wood and I can’t wait to see what you do with it because whatever it is is going to be your usual very high standard.
That my friend is a sweet little bowl and pleasing shape, I know you don't like turning wood away but honestly sometimes its the right thing to do, amazing contrast in the colours, good job Phil. 😁😁
Hi Phil I see a porpoise head on the inside!! Love the demarcation lines between the bark, sapwood and heartwood, truly a unique piece. Stick with your thoughts on design they are better. Could you undercut and leave more of the bark on the top? As you can see you have convinced me to stay with the bark lol Take care Bob
Wow, Phil! That is a GORGEOUS bowl!! I love the color contrasts. That slight 'shadowing' in the lighter color wood along that well defined edge is so special I think. Another beautiful piece of artwork, Phil! Thank you!❤❤
Thank You Phil, Thank You Dennis... Very enjoyable listening/watching as you negotiate how you want to navigate each piece of wood you decide to tackle every Thursday. Bradford Pear is wonderful with the bark A#1. Love listening to your play by play thinking through your game plan. Phil your turning is always fun but the effort you put on the finish carries the weight. Without your wonderful finish there would be only half a bowl. Your "Ant Eater" on the inside looks to me to be a UFO flying out of its cave inside the Planet Bradford. Very famous planet Phil. It is kind of Pear shaped, ha... until next time... TM
Irene likes the outside i likes the inside live edging as well, also i saw flipper the dolphin when you held it at a certain angle, anyway great colours in and out, great job Phil. All the best from Lincolnshire UK
That's a really nice bowl, Phil. It's a beautiful piece of wood. I saw a dolphin in the bottom. Bradford pear (and all Callery pear) has been banned from sale in Ohio as an invasive species. Bill
Nothing plain about this bowl, gorgeous colors, grain and bark! I agree about turning away the extra wood at the base, it is a shame but it is beautiful anyway. 💖👌 Can’t say that I see a chubby anteater but I do see the side view of a bird head with beak and its upper body. Turned upside down it looks like the back of a cat’s head with a few tufts of hair between two ears. Maybe too many tostitos and spicy salsa con queso for supper affecting my imagination! 😆 Lovely piece but from now on, you do what you prefer, friends will understand! 💕
Wonderful bowl Phil. Those contrasting colors are incredible. I think it would have been better if it the bowl was wider at the base. Best wishes from Ohio.
Have to laugh. I would rarely finish the bottom of your work the way you do. I haven't used a mortise in years and most of my pieces have a flat bottom, not a foot. But who cares? You do you. Love all your videos.
That wood looks other worldly
Beautiful
Absolutely beautiful wood.
Beautifully done, Phil. Thanks for sharing!
It looks like a dolphin head! I just adore that piece. It is gorgeous.
Howdy Phil 👋👋 Phil for President!!
Another amazing piece of art. Thanks
Absolutely gorgeous, Uncle Phil ❣️
(another masterpiece) 👍✌️
I love the coloring and the live edge of this bowl!
It's a beautiful piece of wood ❤️ cute!
It is really beautiful and look so soft
I love the graduation of colors from the bark, to the sapwood to the heartwood, it's another beautiful bowl Phil. You never disappoint.
Such an amazing piece of wood. So much to see. I do wish I could feel how smooth it is. Keep smiling
so gorgeous, Phil, love it!
I never thought sap wood would look so beautiful you never know what your going to get in the end
I agree
Vary nice
It's probably good for us to get out of our comfort zone now and again. I don't think you could turn a bad piece if you tried. Great job that brought this best the wood had to offer. Thanks for sharing.
Another nice project
Looks nice. 2 colors looks good
That line between heart and sap wood is striking! Really nice bowl.

I see a map inside and it’s beautiful
I don't think you should have tried to pleased Dennis. I see a smiling dolphin. I love the outside.
Be good
The bowl is beautiful. I don't see the need for a narrow bottom --- guess that's personal preference. Have a great weekend. 😊
another fine job, you do what you want , let your son do what he wants to do.
Very nice bowl! I see the chicken with the bug!
Just amazing how nature works, the colours and lines and of course the bark is really cool, I like how you tapered it up. Nice job Phil.
All the best to you.
Regards Jim
Lol. I have "winged it" half my life. Been ok!
Another pretty bowl! Looking inside God's art!
Thumbs up on the recess bottom. You made the bottom perfect. I have Bradford pear from my neighbors tree and it's one of my favorite woods to turn.
Another beautiful piece of art. The different colors look amazing. Lol I thought there was an owl look out of the bottom. Thanks again Phil for sharing with your TH-cam family

absolutely not what I expected... but it doesn't disappoint with the colours and the contrast of the dark bark ... perfection
Mr Anderson beautiful ,beautiful wood great job as always 👍
Hi Phil, love this piece, it looks so smooth, and shiney, and the color variation is like a 2 tone paint job. I though the little dark crack in the inside, looked like some kind of arcade game dragon. Thanks for showing us!
Nice recovery with the recess.😊
Lol he's like me Phil. Just fluffy that's all lol looks great!
That is hilarious, I've never been accused of having an imagination, but that's the first thing I thought I f when you asked what we may have seen in there.
Nice your lucky to have good friends. Very nice bowl. I see an elephant in the inside the darker sap wood
Right from the get go that is a beautiful piece of wood and I can’t wait to see what you do with it because whatever it is is going to be your usual very high standard.
Love it. I was thinking a whale. But to each his own. Gorgeous all over.
Thanks.
So smooth! Stunning!
That my friend is a sweet little bowl and pleasing shape, I know you don't like turning wood away but honestly sometimes its the right thing to do, amazing contrast in the colours, good job Phil. 😁😁

Absolutely amazing piece, Phil! That wood is something else! Thank you for making it so beautiful! x
Very pretty little bowl Phil! I've recently been turning a lot of smaller bowls and vases too. I really enjoy the somewhat smaller items lately.
its more than beautiful but you know that you cant please everyone so you got to please yourself which i think you did thank you
I think it looks quit elegant...

Most of my bowls are shaped just like that!
You were just talking about the wonderful colour and you’re right it’s almost like it is Spalted!!! Really loving this :-).
You're right Phil, that coloring is cool. I really like that wood, I'd like to try some of that myself.great video Phil, see you next week ..Dan
Irene likes the outside i likes the inside live edging as well, also i saw flipper the dolphin when you held it at a certain angle, anyway great colours in and out, great job Phil. All the best from Lincolnshire UK
To me it looks like the map of the Ponderosa during the opening credits. of Bonanza!
We used to have a Bradford pear in our yard. I hated that stinky tree but it has beautiful colors. That is a beautiful bowl.
Especially if you had to rake all those leaves...lol
Beautiful…. I’ve never turned pear.
That's a really nice bowl, Phil. It's a beautiful piece of wood. I saw a dolphin in the bottom. Bradford pear (and all Callery pear) has been banned from sale in Ohio as an invasive species.

Well Phil, I don’t know about the ant eater but, that is one cool little bowl!
Really pretty wood …
What do I see inside the bowl? I see a blind, overweight, smirking dolphin!
