I don't care what wood you have or how you turn it, it always comes out beautifully and unique. And I always learn from you. Well done and thanks for another great video!
As my dad would say, "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do" and you went and did it. Turned out really nice. Mesquite is in abundance where I live in central Texas.
Phil there you go again beating yourself up over nothing - this is a beautiful work of art! Good to see you - you seem much more yourself after the past couple weeks, hope you're well on the mend.
Good morning, Phil. You seem to be your own critic and not always right about your work. You the very best at what you do. A wood craving master. I really enjoy your videos and the art you created. Stay healthy, safe and blessed. 💜💜💜
You my friend are like the Bob Ross of wood turning, even the hair!!! Okay, not so much “the hair”. In all seriousness, it’s an honor and pleasure to watch both you and Bob Ross go from your respective raw materials to an artistic thing of beauty. As always, AMAZING!
Wow Phil, Your dexterity getting into that vase with the various tools including the old sock have made a beautiful piece. Great job Phil grain is dynamite the oil finish is beautiful.
I think it turned out really nice Phil. The finish looks really good, really brings out the contrasting colors of the grain. The shape is unique, like most everything else you do. Thats why we all watch your great videos. You never just turn a bowl, your always use the beauty of nature to set your work apart. Really nicely done !
Hi Phil, I like it!! you certainly wasn't barking up the wrong tree with the design, you certainly SOCKED it to me with your inventiveness. God bless, stay safe. Tony

I like how you bring your viewers through your thoughts on what you should do with each piece, problems you run into and your viewers' opinion on what you're doing - and how you just plain wing it from beginning to end! I find your humility really engaging and it shows your viewers that woodturning is really all about having fun as you create something spectacular. I am hoping to make this part of my retired life someday. Cheers from CT!
The finish looks terrific on this one Phil. I think you had the right idea using the Danish Oil knowing it would soak in more. Pretty cool shape as well. I saw Tweety Bird at first but by the time you turned it to the other side he must have flown away because I saw the two eyed monster and could not get that out of my head. And for sure the bark looks great. Nicely done! Gary
Another unique beauty! Have to be honest i was skeptical about how it was going to turn out about half way though but the finished piece extinguished all my doubts. Great job and thanks for another lesson and great video!
Hi Phil. Down here in AZ, 75% of what I turn are landscaper discards of mesquite. One weekend I went to Woodcraft with a piece because I wanted a better type of finish. The woodturner there, says “walnut oil”. I have now used pints and pints of it. If I want more shine, buff it and wax it. Mesquite is a beautiful wood.
Good morning Phil. I love turning mesquite. I turn a lot green and slightly wet wood. I findit easier and seems to be darker. I have used Miniwax Wipe- on Poly with great success. Satin and gloss being the 2 finishes I have used. I found that the wet wood seems to preserve the darker look. Thanks for your videos. They are my go- to sources when I need help.
I love mesquite. But you didn’t have any worms or beetles. They make turning mesquite a unique experience. I’m not a fan of rhombus shapes. They seem to fight against the natural perspective of the wood grain and natural edge. Enjoyed your process and narration. Thanks.
The grain is fantastic but the shape with the sharp centre edge didn’t work for me. Saving the live edge was well worth it. As always Phil we learn so much from your coverage you are a true inspiration 🤴
Love all your videos--to think that we are all looking at beautiful wood grains that have never been seen before. I have never turned wood before, but your videos are truly inspirational.
See, I like the way you think, Bruce. Revealing what has been inside the tree all along is kind of how I look at it, too. Glad you enjoy the videos, thank you! 😊
Great video, tutorial. Phil, I got my wife and I woodturning classes at Woodcraft for a Valentines gift yrs back, we loved it and will take it back up when I retire in a few yrs. No room in my current wood-shop,or budget for a lathe yet.❤
"If you want dark wood, the use dark wood." Well said. I love the way you MacGyver items that you have around the shop/house. Wish I had a neighbor like you. I wouldn’t leave the shop. Your videos are outstanding. The audio and visual is perfect. You describe EVERYTHING without being boring. Nice touch. I wonder often when I turn, "does it sound like this when other turners turn X?" Your audio sounds exactly like the sounds I hear, which tells me I may not be messing up as much as I thought. You are an instructor extroidinaire. I learned, I liked, no, I loved the process to get to the final piece of art as much as I loved the final piece of art. Please keep doing what you do Phil. What do I think? I think you’re a genius woodworker!
It will be exactly 16 years ago on May 8 on my 40th birthday that I was told my dad had cancer. I wish I could have introduced him to your videos, he never used a computer but we bought him a laptop. I just wish he'd have got the chance to see your work. You are awesome. My dad was a woodworking teacher for 38 years.
It is amazing how one can start with a design in mind but the finished project ends up totally different than what way expected. I love the way that works when God guides our hands. Unique and beautiful.
The grain, the bark, and the finish are the stars of this turning, IMHO, Phil. Verdict is out on the shape for me, but it does not diminish the natural beauty of the bowl. Another great job. Thanks!
"I'll just do what I can do with want I got"...….. you always do, and it always comes out beautiful!!!!! Keep on doing what you do; it'll be perfectly fine!! I wouldn't of ever thought to mount it like you did at first, but neither am I a wood turner! Thank you.
