Uber was allowed to run at a loss and undercut competition until they killed off competition and now dominate the market. They have now saturated the market with drivers and have no incentive to stop recruiting as the last publicly acknowledged driver total was 100,000 drivers in the U.K. Lately they have refused to confirm the exact number as driver numbers climb to all time highs. The key to their profitable was fooling everyone into accepting upfront fares, moving drivers off and away from the traditional time and distance rates. They use an algorithm to offer the job to several drivers simultaneously at very low and varying rates in the hope that some fool will accept the job for next to nothing. If no one takes the bait, then the job is reposted at a slightly higher rate until some poor desperate idiot accepts the job for a few pence more. Uber also post up a holiday pay amount to further confuse, Bamboozle and trick the driver into acceptance of very low fares because the completely unrelated holiday pay amount makes the low job price seem that little bit better than what it actually is. Drivers are battening an algorithm run by a supercomputer that thinks and works out the maths a million times quicker than anyone reasonable could, distracting you with flashes, pings, offers of bonuses, learning your habits, preferences and price thresholds in the blink of an eye because the acceptance of up front fares is no longer related to time and distance rates. Drivers simply don’t have a chance at competing, the deck is stacked in Ubers favour. Uber does the same thing with riders, pushing prices ever higher with offers of priority booking for just a little more and robbing them blind with peak rate prices all in the blink of an eye using their supercomputer. They circumvent the normal checks and balances applied to traditional black cabs and mini cabs over pricing/ time and distance rates because they use an ‘App’ to move monetary goal posts in the blink of an eye. The regulators cannot keep up and don’t really have a clue about how to ensure fairness because it’s done on an app. If you want to earn better wages from driving, go to a traditional cab company who is regulated to provide you with time and distance rates and who isn’t allowed to move the goal posts. Take care and take money mate.👍
