    Canadian Banking Sector Analysis - Which One Is Best?
    Hello everyone I am Daniel Pronk and in todays video I share my thoughts on the 4 largest Canadian banks plus one smaller cap Canadian bank stock. These stocks are Royal Bank Of Canada RY.TO, TD Bank TD.TO, BMO, Scotiabank BNS, and Equitable Bank EQB.TO.
    Canadian Banks are said to be some of the best banks in the world and some of the best dividend growth stocks out there. In this video, I share my thoughts on which Canadian banks are best, and go over their returns.

    It is a bit misleading to compare percentage growth rates. Percentages get skewed by growing off a lower base. It was far easier to double my income from my first minimum wage job than it would be to double a six figure income.

    Should pulled in the 5th CM would of love to of seen it. The dividend at over 5% is up there and pretty hard to ignore. Thanks for the analysis, I'll have to take a look a signing up.

      I just took a quick look, CM.TO has grown slower than RY.TO in all aspects but looks like the bank consistently has a higher dividend yield!

    National bank actually outperformed all 5 :) i love EQB and GSY for a small cap/mid play

      GSY is in credit services industry. Very different than diversified banks or EQB in mortgage finance. Both are good picks in my opinion though.

      GSY.TO is an awesome Canadian company that also looks undervalued right now in my own opinion. I personally own it and think the business has a ton of long term growth ahead!

    Boring ol Canadian banks with huge moats. Not sure how much damage this little new comers can do in the long run. Likely get bought out buy RBC or something if they keep growing. I own TD RBC and bns. so hard not to chance the high dividend yield of bns especially in these economic downturns and it hits 7% vs steady RBC and TD at 3 and 4% and not as much of a discount.

    Love EQB as a product and investment. Have been nibbling away at the share price in the low 50s.

      Same here! I (Daniel Pronk) and DCAing the stock in this price range. I believe the dividend yield on cost will grow very nicely in the future from this price range.

    Question from the USA: We have access to EQGPF, which is the essentially the pink sheet version for the USA. I looked into it, and the stock price seems to closely follow EQB.TO, which we yankees don't really have access to. Other than trading volume, is there a downside to owning and holding EQGPF? I want to own this stock, but I cannot find much information about this.

    • @StockUnlock
      @StockUnlock  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey David, this is a great question! EQGPF is the US ticker for EQB.TO. You just need to be very careful with the trading volume. A market order could really screw you over with such low volume and cause you to buy shares at a much higher price to meet sellers.
      Additionally, there could be a higher tax on dividends received from EQB if you're in the US. Canadians pay an additional 15% tax on dividends received from US companies, and that could work the other way around for US citizens receiving dividends from Canadian stocks.

    Does anyone own a Canadian bank, such as TD bought on NYSE? Please explain how those dividends are taxed for Americans?

    • @fitbh703
      @fitbh703 ปีที่แล้ว

      15% foreign withholding on the dividend. Unless you hold it in an IRA. Then no over the border tax.

    I feel so bad to be a BNS shareholder, especially the more I learn about the Canadian banks. A consistent loser!
    But I have been buying EQB, which I feel A LOT better about.

    • @StockUnlock
      @StockUnlock  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Andrew, I (Daniel Pronk) used to hold BNS but eventually figured it was more of an income stock then a growth stock. Me being so young, I wanted to focus on more growth than income. If you're a purely income/dividend investor then BNS may be nice, but if you're not living off your portfolio then I think it's not the best bank to own.
      I freaking love EQB. I can't wait to see where this stock/company goes over the next 10 years!
