    After the 2008 recession, safety and stability are not the terms people always associate with banks.
    Banking institutions lost a lot of investor trust, and with the rapid rise of digital banking, traditional banks are also not as mightily profitable as they used to be.
    This is another place where Canadians have won the geographic lottery. Two Canadian banks are included in World Finance’s three best banks lists, and the big-five are also the top-five safest banks in North America.
    And the best part, this safety and stability also come with generous dividends and modest growth. Do your investment portfolio a favor, and pick some winners from this list of best Canadian bank stocks.
    Best Canadian Bank Stocks
    Before we “unveil” the list, one thing requires clarification. For this list, we’ve only chosen “Bank stocks,” and that doesn’t include financial services and mortgage lenders, many of which are classified under the same category in several screeners.
    It made the total pool of available securities relatively limited (since there are only a handful of sizeable and publically traded banks in the country). But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. You have fewer securities to screen and judge by your own metrics.
    Also, as some of you probably know what the big-five are. These are the banks that control over 80% of the banking industry in Canada (an estimate, some people place the actual percentage even higher).

    I own shares in the Bank of Montreal, Bank of Nova Scotia, and CIBC bank. That's all I need. I refuse to sell even if we have a full-blown stock market crash.

    I am watching your video Nov 7 21. Good analysis. I have owned all 6 of the big canadian banks for years. Dripped the dividends. Have done well with all of them. Large accrued capital gains in the stocks and great dividends. And now the banks have been given clearance to raise dividends and do share buybacks. Canadian banks may not be exciting investments but tried and true. Good way to accrue wealth over time on a steady basis and build for retirement.

    I like the yields - and I purchased C.I.B.C. - 2019 - and locked in a yield of 5.30% - I've so far experienced 2 dividend increases and 1 - 2 for 1 stock split back in May /
    I like it 👌

    Would have loved a final chart comparing all the stats you mentioned to compare the banks :( went to the blog thinking a final comparison of customers, branches, assets, etc but didn’t see it - would you be able to add one to the blog post?

      Bank of Montreal and Bank of Nova Scotia have never failed to pay dividends in over one hundred years. If that's not safety, I don't know what safety is.

    I apologize for the specific and somewhat off-topic question, but:
    If you have a variety of investments, and you're expecting the market to flip to a bear market for several years, how would you navigate it to avoid initial losses? My thoughts always seem to go to bonds and fixed-income products.

    • @WealthAwesome
      @WealthAwesome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Timing the market is extremely hard, especially for beginner investors, and even professional investors. I'm of the mindset that people should stay invested, at their proper fixed income / equity allocation, regardless of what you think the market may do. For example, if you thought the pandemic was going to cause a long bear market last year and moved your money into fixed income, you'd be kicking yourself now because of the insane growth the market has had in the past year.

    • @KyleBaran90
      @KyleBaran90 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@WealthAwesome The classic advice of "Time in the market beats timing the market"! Seems that it goes back to following whatever investment plan you have and sticking to it through the ups and downs.
      I suppose then, that the short-term market noise is only relevant to people who operate in that short term (eg day/swing traders)

      A bear market never lasts years… only months. As they say : Impatient people give their money to patient people when dealing stocks. Simple. Logical.

    • @shirleycrosner634

      If you're Canadian / there is a huge tax advantage to picking dividend paying stocks - and you can live off that income - almost tax free $ !

    • @KyleBaran90
      @KyleBaran90 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shirleycrosner634 Since posting this comment, I think my "comfort zone" is having a dividend-paying stock in a relevant sector (eg commodities or consumer defensive right now), while writing out far OTM covered calls for additional income. Also doing so in a TFSA until it's maxed
      For example, I'm almost at the point to where I can do it with WMT next year, and I can get anywhere from $600-800 per year (conservatively) which is "like" a 4% dividend on top of whatever it normally does.
