Ayo my man you are mentioned in the vid hahaha. Actually when I see you around videos I watch I just noticed that I watched a lot of YT myself in various topics LOL
Literally saw Joey make a joke tweet today saying "who is watching Date Alive?" and someone in the replies seriously started attacking his view count. Like jfc people need a life.
As a manga reader, I can confirm, it is the superior status, because you unlock the mighty counter-argument to argue against any take of anime "Anime only?"
I read the Demon Slayer manga just so that whenever I see someone in the Demon Slayer shirt I can tell them that shinobu dies or that nezuko develops immunity to sunlight
Once upon a time meeting another anime fan meant a life long friend. You didn't care if you two had different opinions on various anime, you'd just be happy to have finally met another person who actually likes the same things as you. I miss those days...
The problem with something niche becoming popular is that you no longer are able to have a meaningful conversation about it. At one point, spy x family the manga had a very tiny community and you could talk to them and have a fun time discussing the story. Now if you go in twitter or reddit, the only thing people are saying is: "anya is so cute uwuwuwuwuw", or "loid makes me gay and I want yor hentai", or.... "anya is too sexualised and this anime should be banned everywhere" Gone are the days of having a nice conversation with a dude about how the background for the latest chapter was great and you can't wait to see what happens next.
@@24dasr hate when things like that happen 😭 I respect peoples thoughts and opinions but I don’t like it when some just make certain animes toxic , cringe or weird for no reason 🤦🏽♀️
My favorite people to show anime to are people who've never watched anime before. No toxicity, no past experiences, just a fresh mind to objectively discuss the thing we're watching.
Unless those people have developed stereotypes from interactions with other people who never watched anime, like "uhuh anime is for weirdos and pervos lmao". I mean, I had stereotype bias against anime as a brat but that was at a time when there were like 3 people watching anime and the only show that was on tv was an extremely butchered edit of Sailor Moon.
Well I never understood why anime was so loved, I wanted to think it was overrated, but how could I tell if I didn't even watched one, that's why this year I recently started to watch anime, altough I'm on a pause for making research on these type of videos, bc since I was young I hated anime nonstop but now it just confuses me, besides I thought I might just try new stuff, I started with Evangelion

damn I feel old, I remember when I was in high school, you meet someone who's also into anime, doesn't matter if you haven't watched the same shows, it usually ends in mutual friendship. nowadays it feels like the word fandom is synonymous with cult.
I read and watch a lot of Star Wars content and I literally don't tell anyone but my most trusted fans, because it is dangerous to have "wrong" Star Wars takes.
"Just say you read manga." I cannot describe the emotional reaction I had to that final line because it's both an amazing joke, true, actually works, and called over a million people out like no one has ever called us out before. I went through all the stages of grief in about three seconds.
I've been using the 'I read manga' excuse for a long time. Sometimes followed with 'If god meant for us to watch animation he would have made drawings in books move naturally', a take that I've never stopped using simply because I always marvel at how many people take me seriously, including some people who very seriously have told me that they don't believe in god. I just legitimately prefer manga in general, and usually only like anime in a social setting (Surprisingly hard for 2 or more people to read the same manga volume at the same time). Acting like it makes me superior is mostly because I am 40% troll (On my dad's side).
Many questions can be asked while discussing anime like “what do this series’ nuances imply” or “what are the themes trying to say about our greater world” or “how well are the character interactions and dialogue written”. The most important question, however, is always: “Can they beat Goku?” Because the hallmark of a good series is how easily one of your characters can clap another. Because writing fiction is a competition that can be settled like in arm wrestling.
I think a good anime must be good right from beginning to end, consistently equally as good the whole time. And it must at bare minimum have good characters and good story. The other stuff can come after that. Demon slayer district arc had flawless animation, but the first half was still boring and the story was kinda mid. Was not good from the start only during the ending. But there's anime like Banana Fish that start off perfect and end perfectly and stay great every episode consistently
The second most important question must then be "Who is best girl?", because the cuteness of the drawings is highly correlated to overall quality of the history being told. Source: Trust me :).
@@GrowingDownUnder It's a bit ironic how for a lot of people, the animation quality is one of the least (or at least not one of the most) important things about an anime. For me personally I don't care a lot about the animation style/quality as long as I like the characters or the story is good.

you put all the thoughts ive been having for a year into words with your video. i feel exactly like this. even irl its doomed cuz anime is for the socially awkward and inept so cuz of that most anime convos never go well. its best to just enjoy this hobby by yourself or with those closest to you. actually when i think about the best anime experiences ive had its exactly that. nothing beats finding an obscure show that love and you feel like youve found a hidden gem. and watching hype anime with close family and friends is so much fun especially if its a funny show. theres just better ways to enjoy anime than discussing it with strangers online
I agree, I managed to force my dad to watch my favourite anime (hxh) with me and it's been a really fun experience so far. It makes me happy to be the one to introduce him to it. The only problem I have with non-anime watchers is when they shit on the show you really like or just go "I only got to episode 3, show was trash"

Having someone ask "have you seen this new anime?" And you responding, "What anime? Oh, this has an anime? I read the manga like 4 years ago." Is such a quick way to kill a conversation because the series was either forgettable or you don't know how much you can talk about because you don't know where the show is.
Does it? "Where is it up to?" "X" "Oh cool" And then, very crucially, saying absolutely nothing about things you enjoyed that are coming up, but just talking about the early stuff only.
I read manga because it sometimes gives more details on story than the anime, and reading manga is just sure fire way that the story will still keep going even after a problem gets solved.
In the second case only if you're bad at conversations. Just ask them up to what part they watched and talk about what you both like about the show up to that part/be vague and conceptual when you're talking about things they haven't watched yet.
@@filbusdoesnotexist the problem with that is, your brain is wired to typically remember two things after a long time an event has transpired. Here the event being the manga you read. The two things being, important parts of the event and the way it ends. So say, 4 years down the line, it will be really difficult to recollect your memories and navigate the minefield. Best to not dwell on it, and change the topic lest you spoil em. Case in point, i watched anohana(my fav animu) 5 years ago and the two major things i remember is the firework scene in ep 6(?) and the final hide and seek.

A shower is a place in which a person bathes under a spray of typically warm or hot water. Indoors, there is a drain in the floor. Most showers have temperature, spray pressure and adjustable showerhead nozzle. The simplest showers have a swivelling nozzle aiming down on the user, while more complex showers have a showerhead connected to a hose that has a mounting bracket. This allows the showerer to hold the showerhead by hand to spray the water onto different parts of their body. A shower can be installed in a small shower stall or bathtub with a plastic shower curtain or door. Showering is common in Western culture due to the efficiency of using it compared with a bathtub. Its use in hygiene is, therefore, common practice
I have watched so much anime that I have become immune to normal rated R scenes on a certain website, and now I exclusively go to another rated R website that only shows two dimensions. I need help and grass to touch
Honestly, this isn't just an anime thing. Every fandom I'm in has people shitting on each other's opinions for one reason or another. There's usually plenty of reasonable people around as well, though. Most anime fans I know IRL are pretty friendly, though. Lots of fun talking about shows with them, especially since they've usually seen different ones than I have because I'm a filthy casual who watches maybe one or two new shows a year.

It's weird. I made the mistake of reading a recent My Hero Academia manga chapter on a site that features One Piece, and was treated to a bunch of One Piece fans ragging on MHA. Why? They're two completely different series! It's not like Deku's trying to be king of the pirates.
1. Don't make eye contact. 2. Don't show your back to an Anime fan that's looking at you. 3. Walk with purpose, but do not run. 4. If someone approaches you slowly, make yourself appear bigger and show your teeth. 5. If someone approaches you quickly, clap your hands loudly and scream at them. 6. If someone catches you from behind, fall down, pretend you're dead, and they'll walk away eventually. 7. Do not feed the Anime fans. 8. When you spot a sick Anime fan, keep your distance, call your local Anime Welfare Society and wait until they arrive, warning other people not to approach.
Man that show brings memories. WTF was going on through the creators' heads to make the MC a future pedo that makes all women into lolis permanently lmfao
My experience with finding out someone is an anime fan follows as such: - We both get super excited that we both watch anime - Our conversation starts with a common anime we both watch and like - Our conversation derails to other animes we like/watch - But every for every anime we both bring up, the other hasn't never heard of it or seen it before - thus begins the cycle of: "Have you seen this?", "No", *awkward silence*
Yeah exactly like that, met a girl in school that also watched anime and she saw me reading a manga (Akatsuki no Yona) she asked me what I was reading, made a brew resume of it and she replied: nahhh that's too boring. She went back to a weird random from my class 🤣
I died laughing and as an avid dragon ball fan all of the jokes especially the dragon ball jokes are painfully true. This was fantastic and thank you Gigguk sama for instructing me in the ways of anime communication. P.S. I don't know if I used sama correctly so sorry if I didn't
I love how Gigguk is aware of the existence of “He who can be identified as someone that doesn’t bare any facial hair above the mouth and beneath the nose.”
38 seconds in i was already laughing. Great editing! Anime fandoms are rough, though i'm kinda tired of the aspect of anime being one... genre? In my brain it's just watching entertainment from the internet. When you tell someone "i watch anime", the worst-case-scenario is them forming a stereotypical image of your personality in their head. I mean come on, there are anime enjoyers who haven't been uwu baka sillyfied. Anyway, I wanted to share one of my wholesome experiences. I have a few friends who watch anime, but none of them are as nerdy as me. For the most part our conversations are on the surface... You watched this too? What were your thoughts? Who was your favourite character? Well, last summer i met a guy who was as nuts as me. Bro was an irl reddit user. It felt so good to be able to use all those fancy ass terms, break down cliches, exchange hidden gems. It made a huge difference to talk to a mutual, not some rando.
Being horny is absolutely a personality trait. It's just that being able to flirt requires the weeb to multiclass into something that can remember what the sun feels like.
The real secret is that when you are a strong enough fan of a genre, you can share your opinions about anything freely. Sure, the internet will still absolutely destroy you for it, but they would have done that regardless. The difference is that in your own mind you'll have ascended to a plane of superiority where the criticisms no longer bother you. I call this... the JoJo complex.

I remember when I was young and stupid, wanting to talk to other people about anime. I wish I could go back to those days. Now almost every anime comment section is almost as toxic as Twitter thread.
I'm from an era where anime was taboo to be spoken about. When Inuyasha was airing (early 2000's, lol), I found out the boyfriend of a friend I had in high school also liked the show. Every morning, he'd sit next to me and we'd say nothing for about five minutes until one of us finally felt the coast was clear and would quietly ask, "...Did you see yesterday's episode?" 😂 The girlfriend was fine with us talking as she wasn't into anime and so we had those morning recaps to finally discuss what we couldn't with anyone else. Nowadays, you throw a stone and you'll hit an anime fan and the hardest part is finding someone that likes the same anime as you.

10:06 as a manga reader I can confirm the amount of times that saying im a manga reader have saved me in an anime conversation online is close to infinity ( nice video )
Soo true. I remember when I watched akame ga kill, my friend told me about something I didnt see in the anime. I told him that he forgot what actually happened and guess what he asked me... "Did u read the manga?" And that was all
All this proves is that the only way to have a non-toxic discussion about anime is to find friends irl that have a life outside of amine, but still have the same interests as you.
You just explained perfectly so much of the character arc I've been through. My jaw literally dropped with the final "say you just read manga" as that is literally all I've got time for/care for nowadays
i remember AoT twitter having a meltdown because My Dress Up Darling and Demon Slayer were switching between the No.1 and 2 spot on AniTrendz while AoT just jumps around the ranks. it became worse when Demon Slayer finished its season and My Dress Up Darling firmly held on the No.1 until it ended its season.
I didn't even realize the season continued after The Rumbling because I saw nobody talking about it online. Except, of course, for the inevitable "ten years at least" joke
nah fr. this is why i just don't talk about any of my interests online. the only people that get to hear about them are the ones tied up in my basement
My main interaction with anime fans is through devouring entire fanfic archives and the attached author's notes. Oftentimes I'll start an anime for entertainment and end up slodging through the last half of it just so I can consume 100 more angsty oneshots without getting spoiled. Is it worth it? Not usually. You can only read so many iterations of "Character X had a nightmare and character Y has to comfort them" before wanting to scream. But it's practically tradition at this point. Also people on AO3 are generally pretty cool, because very few people are going to write fics about things they don't like.
same after watching an interesting anime i always go to AO3 to find fanfictions whit interesting twists and ideas and hopefully someone would have written a fic about an idea i had. Favorite tag is time travel-fix it
It became a natural instinct to me to read fanfictions after watching the anime, even battling myself before start searching because I didn't even finished the entire series yet and I may get spoilers along the way.
Cimooooooooo gang. We've finally ascended into a meme used by the animetubers, just a fraction a step above than those who review children games based on said anime. Finally. All of MBT's hard work has started to pay off.

I don't have a problem with Demon Slayer tbh, im just jealous that its getting an such a great adaptation that other well written stories have never gotten.
Exactly, imagine if a title with an actually engaging plot and well written character got this kind of 5 star adaptation treatment. I don’t hate demon slayer, I am just disappointed they choose to waist good money, manpower, talent and time to elevate a 6/10 manga to an 8/10 show when they could have made an 8/10 manga into a 10/10 show instead

I've been thinking anime was the major mistake (I still think it is a big one with how awful it's gotten) but maybe the type of people it creates is the biggest problem
@Dazai Osamu Truth. Seeing anime turn from something obscure and looked down upon to a phenomenon it is now, I dislike the condition of the anime fandom as a whole. The shows are problematic with too much fan service now, too. I miss the time when anime was something a bit special and fansubs were flourishing.
yikes. I'm sorry your experience was that bad. I dunno if it would help ignite some optimism but I have had mostly positive experiences. Bad ones too of course. In this series, both Nyhmnim and myself will be opening 24 booster packs or 1 box of a core Yu-Gi-Oh! booster set. We will build a deck and play a best 2 out of 3, and the winner will receive a small prize to upgrade their deck. HOWEVER! Each episode, we will open another box of the next set that was released moving in chronological order, constantly upgrading our decks before dueling each other at the end of each episode. This is the Yu-Gi-Oh! Progression Series. Ok but seriously does Garnt watch Yugitube or one of his editors. I doubt that the HOWEVER reference got so much mileage out of that sphere. Also if Garnt plays Yugioh, does he play Blackwings?

I remember people actually sending me hateful-ish kind of messages + writing on my Mal profile whenever I wrote a review saying their favorite anime was bad. idk man but being so obsessed with an anime to the point of going into someone's anime list and finding stuff to hate about from there is just sad. Anyways, if you guys feel lost or intoxicated, just join the Mushishi, Natsume, Yotsuba&To! and Azumanga Daioh fandoms and you will feel good again.
If I see someone write the most brainmelting review ever ("this not make sense!! dis show are bad" + 15 extra paragraphs) on MAL I go to their profile to check what they rated Sword art online and if they rated it above that show I disregard their opinion immediately. It's all I can to stop myself from committing hate speech.
@@TurtleGamers1 I do something similar but with Evangelion, In my own personal experience it seems that there's a large group of those fans who literally only like Evangelion and no other animes. That same user gave Evangelion a 9/10.
I've learned for talking about anime, especially IRL, it helps to find something that can act as common ground between all/most fans. You can walk up to just about any anime fan and open with "so how about One Punch Man" and be met with a smile. Every fan may have different tastes but there are a few things we can all agree on at least enough to have a positive opinion on.
5:42 "I'm so sorry" God damn it, why do you have to stab an other knife in the wound that still haven't healed yet! Thank you soooooo much A-1 for dropping the series JUST before what should have been one of the most epic fight to be animated.
I think the word 'passion' is the keyword here. In college we had some real obsessed weebs and that weirded the others out. Yet whenever I accidentally send a anime meme or whatever in the wrong group chat once (main college chat RIP) they liked it and asked for more. From what I heard they like hearing me talk about it as I talk with passion (do note I am a art teacher these days). I even got people to casually watch the more well known 'casual' anime movies/series by just speaking about genres. And this is the story how one big weeb was well liked and listened to when talking about anime/manga and Japanese culture. Passion not obsession guys! Don't go overtop, consuming anything too much is always bad.

Very wise words.
Any One Punch Man fan who thinks Saitama could beast Goku has fundamentally missed the point of Saitama, and of OPM. Change my mind.

Does it?
"Where is it up to?"
"X"
"Oh cool"
And then, very crucially, saying absolutely nothing about things you enjoyed that are coming up, but just talking about the early stuff only.
I read manga because it sometimes gives more details on story than the anime, and reading manga is just sure fire way that the story will still keep going even after a problem gets solved.

My main interaction with anime fans is through devouring entire fanfic archives and the attached author's notes. From what I heard they like hearing me talk about it as I talk with passion (do note I am a art teacher these days).
