Handyman Saitou is such a good show, the writer isn't afraid to give big flaws to every main characters and it shows why they need to be in a party together. Every single one of these characters are needed in the party so they can survive.
Most of isekai stories in recent years have their party consist of an OP Protag that can do everything from magic, melee combat, crafting, healing, etc and then they added a weaker version of the protag that can only do 1 thing the protag can do. But it is different for Saitou, he is just a normal human being in another world, all of his skills are that we can also learn. But he utilizes his skills to such degree that he becomes essential in his party, and seeing him getting recognized for his hard work makes me feel happy too.
Not to mention how the plot progression feels like a nuke when it's all connected.

Seriously, its such a good show. And understandably as a normal person in a world where people can do all this crazy shit he feels a little insecure about what he brings to the table but the show keeps going out of its way to keep confirming realistically just how valuable he is to the party. He's not a badass, he has no special powers, but he fills in not only roles other people lack but roles they didn't even know they needed.

I think the only major flaw it has is how... random the first few episodes are, which is completely accurate to the source material. I don't know if this is true, but the start feels like a mangaka writing random one-shots in a setting with occasional connections and sequels until he figures out an interesting central plot to center everything around.

Chillin' in my 30s has turned out to be surprisingly entertaining. The protagonist actually shows a maturity befitting a guy in his 30s facing a tectonic shift in the course of his life. There are also some trope subversions which have added to the quality.

Handyman Saitou was surprising, in the first 3 episodes, it just looked like it was just gonna consist of one off stories and be a random gag type of show. How they brought it all together after that makes it feel they were just testing people with the 3 episode rule and gave the people who stuck with it a reward.

    1) Refreshingly Trope-less - Other than Truck-kun, no harems, no demon lord threat, no slavery, protag skills are practical but not OP, etc.
    2) Characters are well written and genuine - Character roles are RPG staples but their personalities are unique and well written, and very fun
    3) Story Telling - starts out like a different anime, can be jarring at first, but does an excellent job introducing all the characters and explaining their personalities w/o needing to spell anything out, then fuses all together into a more consistent coherent plotline that handles a large cast quite well IMO.
    4) Funny - It's funny.
    5) ED is a banger - That piano is fire.

@@youtubesucksbutts I'm an original fan, and I can see how other original fans may not like this adaption. It is a big change from the original, and the original's a masterpiece. Time and time again, media that's considered a masterpiece has been revisited and been hated for the interpretation not lining up with what older fans enjoyed. Even the Lord of the Rings movies have a lot of valid criticisms from the perspective of long time Tolkein readers, and they're considered masterworks of their own rights. Trigun Stampede is using a controversial animation style in going 3D too.
That being said, I personally absolutely love the direction Trigun Stampede has been going. The fact that the characters have fluid animations that you rarely see in more traditional animation styles, everything is beautifully stylized, they put more of a focus on the hidden connections of characters to build the narrative earlier, etc. While 3D animation is controversial because of all the terrible 3D CGI, this is a clear example of where it's excels. Campfire Cooking is more popular than it has any right to be. Aside from the cooking aspect of the show there's nothing whatsoever that stands out. 7 episodes in and no captivating story arc was introduced. I'm glad Garnt didn't talk about it longer... Eminence in the Shadow is another case of "why is this popular?" That crap has about as many followers as Spider.
Negativ statements aside, there are several series of interest this season like Bungou Stray Dogs, Trigun Stampede, Nier Automata, To Your Eternity, High Cards, and even kind of The Fire Hunter.
      Recommendations:
Back to isekai, it's unbelievable to me that none of the *good stuff* seems to ever get an adaption. While I love Slime, by no means is that adaption or the series a masterpiece in any stretch of the imagination. The three isekai novels I'm currently reading could wipe the floor with the existing ones: The Beginning After the End, Supreme Magus, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. ORV alone is actually different from all isekai I know with a setting unlike any other, unfortunately the writing isn't perfect because it had to be translated from Korean into English first. TBATE and SM are especially well written, while SM is very long winded with many unnecessary parts that can be skimmed through or skipped entirely. Still highly recommended though.
TBATE is about an orphan who becomes king in a world similarly advanced as ours, except they also have Chi, in order to avenge his "mother", the head of the orphanage, who was assassinated by an assassin from a foreign country. After wasting his life in solitude, raging war against other kingdoms, and getting killed or whatever (hasn't been told yet) he gets reincarnated as Arthur Leywin. From then on a similar story to Mushoku Tensei unfolds. If the two deviate from each other later on I don't know, since I only read TBATE and have only seen MT's anime. There's more to his past as orphan, but it would be a huge spoiler.
      Best elements =
      • the writing
      • story told from different perspectives
      • the protagonist
      • high stakes
      • no harem
The MC in Supreme Magus, Lith, is seriously messed up but for quite a few good reasons, in a much different way than Rudeus from MT. His character can be considered as neutral-evil, similar to Ainz Ooal Gown. So, long story short: Growing up in an abusive family, the boy Derek Esposito let's his father die when he doesn't warn him about the polished hallway and stairs in their apartment building. After the father dies Derek has to take care of himself and his dear younger brother, until his brother dies by the hands of a Hit & Run. From there it only gets worse. Derek is then after years of living alone I believe diagnosed with cancer, so as his last act in life he hunts down the killer of his brother, let's him suffer as long as his brother did in the hospital before killing him, and finally Derek commits suicide. Unlike pretty much any other isekai protagonist, Derek Esposito as Lith has a real goal in this new world that is linked to his existence as a whole. Telling more would again be a big spoiler. The 3 (!) prologues are mandatory and a telling sign of how long the entire series is... Or I guess many isekai are.
      Best elements =
      • no harem although several love interests + one serious relationship/romance much later
      • world building
      • ruthless world if you're into that
      • amazingly complex and detailed yet thoroughly well explained magic system
      • tons of very unique and distinct creatures all with their own ancestry, history, characteristics
      • few but likable characters
      • hatable characters such as _many_
According to word of mouth, Mushoku Tensei is beyond all of them, but if the novels are like the anime I'm very skeptical about the truth of this statement. Putting your trust in isekai fans is not usually... ideal... anyway, even though I am one myself.

The pacing of both the plot and the dialogue feels like that way fever dreams just jump between settings and plot points with no coherence; the talking lucky-cat god-spirit-thing in a white void was surprisingly profound; the advice of the protag’s hallucination of her dead otaku onii-san is in-depth and presented in a didactic format despite being centered around some of the most disparate and complex topics known to man… It’s just buck wild, and while I wouldn’t say it’s *good* per se, the fact that it seems more concerned with just how far it can push the bounds of imagination than with its own quality makes me not care too much if it doesn’t make sense. He was... decidedly not good(tm) at what he was doing, and eventually caused me to drop all three novels as a result. (To be clear, as all three novels has been passed around a lot, I am referring to a particular one. Think it was the 'estellion' one as they has held all 3 projects? Anyway, it's part of why it was so tragic I had to drop them, as I liked them quite a bit before that and gotten a fair number of chapters into the story already. Then the one picking up the mangas being similarly poor at english (might have been same guy?), meant they [the mangas] never got a better translation either as ppl avoid 'poaching' projects)
Might watch the anime adaptations when they are completed tho. Would be nice to see the story when at least the english is coherent. Overall though, it’s been pretty wholesome and simple, which is contrast to the recent years’ romance anime that have been trying to put stupid twists on the same copy and paste plot: what if the female lead looked like a girl, what if the female lead has obnoxious badonkers, what if the female lead was taundere that bullied and teased the male lead, what if the female lead had a cosplay hobby, etc.. I’m not saying these anime are inherently bad, but they lack that debt and/or focus that Toradora and Golden Time have; Angel isn’t trying to pretend to be some romance with a twist, it’s advertised as a wholesome anime with an underlying drama subplot, which I genuinely enjoy I contrast to how dumb the tomo-Chan anime is.

The Manga is more of a comedy and exaggerates things a lot more, while the Light Novel is more serious and dives more into the world building and magic system, and also the characters. The Anime is like a combination of both of them, but it's more an adaptation of the LN. The Anime is already past the Manga so I recommend picking up the LN if you want to read ahead. The Manga has nice art tho so check it out too.

@@neidhardt8093 The manga still goes a lot more in-depth than the anime. The latter completely skipped over the explanation of the magic system, for example, which was just a stupid decision considering how important it is to Anisphia's core motivation as a character and the cause for plenty of conflicts in the story.
The manga has also has _nailed_ every single emotional scene so far, like when Euphie broke down and requested that Anisphia give her a purpose, something the anime unfortunately fell flat on. And the facial expressions in the comedic scenes are straight up Spy X Family tier lol.
I would definitely say the manga is the most entertaining version of the story so far, but as you said it is unfortunately not complete yet. Can't say I like the writing style of the LN all that much so I'll probably just end up reading new manga chapters as they come out.

I'm really enjoying Campfire Cooking. I love all the meals Mukohda cooks.
So here's some info based on common Isekai tropes
Did the protagonist die and reincarnate?
    Nope. He was summoned.
Is the protagonist a young man/teen?
Mukohda is 27, so kinda young.
Is he overly relatable/a blank canvas?
Probably yes? I'm not a good judge of this sort of thing.
    Is he overpowered?
In terms of combat prowess, yes and no. He himself is very weak.
However, he has his familiar, Fel (formerly Fenrir). Fel will knock the head off any fantasy boss, especially when he's buffed up.
Our protagonist's real power comes from his ability to summon food and ingredients and buff people up like crazy when they eat his food (because it's all "otherwordly"). He can easily double even Fel's stats.
So, yeah, I'd say he probably is overpowered when you get down to it.
Is there a harem or cute girls?
Harem, no. Cute girls... I guess? There's a pouty goddess who wants to exploit him for his ability to summon sweets, but she hasn't appeared in person to him yet (the viewer gets to see her, though). There was also a fantasy party with a girl or two in the first two episodes that will probably come back. I mean I haven't read the source material, that's just my guess. They seem to be a bit of a chekhov's gun.
    Are there guilds?
Yes. Our protagonist has joined both the Adventurers Guild and the Merchant's Guild.
Is there a cute character with incredible power?
    Not yet, no.
Did our protagonist want a fresh start in an environment where he can excel? Is the protagonist's previous life acknowledged?
Mukohda hasn't talked much about what his life was back on earth (I think he was a college student because he had a school uniform, but wikipedia called him a salaryman), so it's hard to know if he's better off. He just rolls with it.
Is our protagonist a 'nobody' becoming a 'somebody'?
Mukohda is trying to keep a low profile. However, Fel certainly draws attention wherever he goes. So far, I'd say no.
    Are there classes and levels?
    Yes.
    Are there menu screens?
    Yes.
Is the world a literal video game or from a video game?
    Nope.
    Is the title long?
Campfire Cooking in Another World With My Absurd Skill?
    ...you tell me.
Why did I spend as much time as I did writing this? IDFK.

Sure the CG might be off-putting for a lot of people but passed that, the show completely captured me in its peculiar world. It's been a very long time since I've been so interested in learning about how a world works. Ep 5 from 1st part completely killed the mood and after that I found only the Bond Arc to be somewhat interesting.
I just think it could be way better than what we got as of right now. Quite frustrating.
I mean what is the purpose of Yor in the story yet? To introduce her brother or fanfictions.

I liked the "Magical Revolution" isekai in the first few episodes. Last ones were a bit weird, but maybe they can come back. Would also recommend "Kaina of the Great Snow Sea". It's also completely in CG (granted not as well animated as Trigun), but the mystery around the show is really good. Has a super interesting world with only a few people living on some kind of transparent membrane not knowing that there are people living on the ground which consists of a snow sea and where they have to fight over ressources (i.e. water).

One chapter has him, accidentally, to be fair, showing a middle schooler his hentai collection, and ending with the middle schooler groping his chest, and the girl liking it.
Another has him in a hot spring with this same middle schooler, both of them with only towels on.
All this, with a character that is presumed to be in his/her 20s. That is a 7 year age gap AT LEAST. I stopped at the hot spring chapter, so even I don't know the rest. Apparently, later on in the chapter, the guy regains just his dick.

@@Ijustusethistocommentstuff Both of those things were in the anime too but were done very innocently, and it was pretty obvious (at least in the anime) that it wasn't just his body that had changed but his brain too. The only thing left "male in his 20's" was the memories. Behavior, likes/dislikes and emotions slowly became one of a small girl. The brain had become and he/she accepted that it had become a young girl. What differentiated the anime from other gender bender anime was that it diverted from the normal "boy in a girls body" trope and made it about the struggle of accepting literally becoming a girl in every aspect of it. And aging the character down had nothing to do with lolicon stuff but was a way to give the character a "do over" in life.

    • @Ijustusethistocommentstuff
      @Ijustusethistocommentstuff ปีที่แล้ว

@@tobiaswedin I can see that for the anime. I read the manga, and the only real hint his mind was changing at all was the chapter where he got amnesia. It did have some impact, but it was only 1 or 2 chapters before the weird scenes I mentioned, only like maybe 16-20 pages. It didn't feel like he grew too much. It could just be that the anime has way better pacing that makes the scenes seem less weird than in the manga.
