      why are you not talking about the 320i l6 2.2l models? I'm planning on buying one soon and I can't find any buying guides anywhere. It seems like the model was forgotten by everybody. I'm getting it for 4 000$ CND (The seller is a friend of mine, but still, I would like to know what's up)...Your thoughts please :)

    Importante advice for M47/M57 owners:
    - Remove swirl flaps as soon as possible or risk total engine failure (N47/N57 owners should check its condition)
    - Enable engine temperature (search on YT for hidden code) and see if you engine temperature reaches 90ºc when driving normal, theres a high chance 1 or both your thermostats are broken and your engine runs cold every time (it increases engine wear and higher fuel consumption)

    My mother has had a 120d since 2006, it has done 190.000km. It’s definitely the most reliable car I’ve ever come across, with the exception of the steering lock but that was fixed by BMW. One last thing, the seats are very uncomfortable.

    Old video, but still damn useful. Just bought a 2007 E87 120i (first of the LCI that year), 6 speed auto. Bought with 20100 kms (12489 miles). Got it for a song, and so far so good. Smooth cold start, nicely spec'd, and non-turbo (I'm quite happy with that, not a fan of turbos in general).

About100k had to recondition abs dc unit. The dual mass clutch and flywheel are still okay but can go as early as 80k depending on driving conditions. Love it even after 12 years

    The 135i convertible was my most loved car. The only issue I had was the water pump that was scary as the car goes into limp mode unexpectedly, And one of the tail lights LED stopped working. The ride level was rough but only because mine had the factory run flat tyres, which you can just swap over to 4 normal tyres and the ride would probably be quite smooth. I'd prefer to go back to it than the c63 I have now.

    • @tlekhi
      @tlekhi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yh, keep your car maintained and it will look after you. Take them run flat tyres off and go for all year round tyres and make sure to buy new tyres only, because you don’t know where part worn tyres have been. Make sure to check any car you buy with a fine tooth, and take a trusted mechanic with you when buying a car to double check, so you won’t getting any nasty surprises. Hope this helps! 👍

    with high mileage the E8x series really get expensive to maintain (180k km +). Failing rear axle transmission pinion bearings, driveshaft U-Joints failing, rear axle carrier rust through, two mass-flywheel clicking, crankshaft Vibration damper failing, the list goes on....

    Differentials on these 1-series in general quite often start whining and hissing between 100000 and 150000 km's. Very well-overhauled diffs are readily available, since this is a common defect. They can be had reasonably affordably. I've had mine replaced by an overhauled one, and it made the car dead-quiet again - both inside and out, because you can really hear a car with a worn differential approaching...! Drop me a reply for the name of the Dutch specialists who perform these overhauls. They send them abroad, too. That way, I only advertise for them if needed. ;-)

    Only the N54 had injection and carbon buildup issues for the turbo engines.
    US there were only 2 models & 2 engine choices
    Face-lift occurred again in 2011 - 2012 with lights being changes, Infotainment system refresh, new DCT transmitting option for Turbo model
    2013 was the year of 135IS models which used the old N54
    2011 1M used the N54 beefy version and was manual only but only 745 US models produced

    I thought the N47 in 120D models was subject to the timing chain failures, due to too long service intervals. Wasn't aware that the 116i was also subject to this problem, but if that's the case why doesn't the 118i have the same problem? I don't really care about the HP difference, but the distribution chain is obviously a big factor that I'm taking into account. I'm looking at both the 116i and 118i. Any tips?

      @yocecil3538 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fade Do you have a link? Like before, all I can find are links on Before 2008 or Only 2007-2008.
      "Spokesperson said: “BMW had issued a ‘technical campaign’ to replace the chain tensioner and, if required, the timing chain in certain N47 engine vehicles produced between February 2007 and June 2008."
      I believe the timing chain teeth were too sharp on the crankshaft pulleys which weakened the timing chain. BMW, on the quiet offered free timing chain tests (measuring if the chain had stretched too much) - if it hadn't they'd fit a new tensioner for free, if it had they'd fit a new chain, crankshaft and the whole lot for free.
      I can't find anywhere that it's 2009 onwards. Back when it was all happening or now.

      @@V1PERB3ATZ I bought one on 28th December and until now the car hasn’t been with me for two continues weeks. As I’m speaking to you the car is with the dealer and he has given me a Ford Focus to use as a courtesy car. The only positive thing is that I had a three months warranty. After buying the car I went on a motorway drive and the engine light came on, took it back to the dealer and he said he was going to fix it. Brought it back and everything was good for a week and afterwards the engine light started flashing, it rough idle, shakes and hesitated in the morning when it’s cold. Until now they are unable to fix it. My biggest mistake I have done is buying that car

      Don't forget that if a timing chain or belt snaps then it can cause serious damage from the pisons coming up and smashing into the valves. Changing a timing chain wouldnt be €3000, but fixing the aftermath of it breaking could easily be.

About100k had to recondition abs dc unit. The dual mass clutch and flywheel are still okay but can go as early as 80k depending on driving conditions. Love it even after 12 years
