This modest video was a battle to produce, as I have moved into my new house, which is still being renovated around me, so broadband connections and dust-free rooms to put computers in have been lacking over the last three months. My intro and outro were edited on a small laptop and uploaded in a friend's house, using her broadband, for which many thanks - especially as she had to put up with my curses as I battled with Final Cut Pro on a small screen. This, my loyal and patient viewers, is why you have not seen any videos from me recently. But footage has actually been filmed, even if you have not seen it yet, so when everything settles down, you will be able to see what I have been doing recently.
That's a fabulous tour. French towns always remind me that local economies and community can thrive so long as you keep big business away. And everything that matters revolves around food😋
Same here. I was cursing Roger as now I'm longing for great fish and chips. Which is something hard to find here in Vancouver Canada. Despite being an ocean Port, most places are now owned by East Indians and they really don't seem to have a passion for it.
Ah poisson-frites en Bretagne quelle merveille! Un jour si le bon Dieu m’épargne j’irai à Douarnenez. Merci pour le vidéo Monsieur Barnes. C’était, comme toujours, excellent!
Thank you for sharing another great video. And you needn’t worry about us. When everything settles down for you we’ll still be here. Wouldn’t miss it for anything.
Roger i have followed you for a long time don't often comment just enjoy.i can't help but see how life there in France is most agreeable for you it seems to have even made you look younger and obviously happier. Throughly enjoyed this trip around your adopted home. Lookung forward to seeing more of the same over the winter months and then returning to sailing in mire agreeable weather.
Nice video Roger. One could argue that the perfect "Fish & Chips" is indeed served with a beer!! No chance of that in the UK!! You talk about missing food in the UK, however after 2 summer trips to Bretange the past 2 years I really miss those buttery pastries!!! Especially the Koign Amman!!!
Great. Both of the wee restaurants in my village down here in the Pyrenees have had a bottle of Sarsons Malt vinegar available on request for getting on for twenty years since my father kicked up a fuss. For me Marmite is one of the last quintessential British tastes I cling to. Branston along with BBC radio have long since been ditched.
We were in Douarnenez last september and it is absolutely lovely although much bigger than we thought by the look of your videos. It is a very nostalgic place. You often speak about”the French” but they prefer being called “les Bretons”. By the way your French is improving every day just like your lovely house. 😊
Thank you, Roger. The Secrets Of Douarnenez is surely a classic, narrated by the great Roger Barnes. He knows the intimate, precise parts of his town, and shares them with love. Thanks again…from an old vet, retired in the US, hills of east Tennessee.
Took me a good twenty years before I stopped missing English pubs here in Australia. No doubt it's been good for my health, but the fish and chip shop and the pub at the end of the street are truly unique features of England.
I came across the town this autumn on a tour of Brittany. I will definitely be returning for a longer stay based in that area next year. Thanks for sharing your knowledge of the town.
What a brilliant little film. Thanks Roger. Life looks idyllic and very authenticly french. A slower pace of life compared to here in the UK. Congratulations on introducing the french fish and chip shop to malt vinegar! I feel we should now introduce the selling of beer in uk fish and chip shops! You can get one in Rockfish, a posh fish restaurant, there's one in poole, Salcombe, Dartmouth and the like, I've not been in one yet!
What a wonderful place to live. Watching this at 8.00am and could eat the fish chips now! Definitely need the salt & vinegar but the beer is a great Fench addition. The pudding/cake looks lively too A great video for French tourism. Thank you.
Thank you Roger, what a great short introduction and tour of the town. I think we're all getting the message that you are very much falling in love with your new home. That is simply wonderful. And the pastry? OMG!! Looking forward to whatever you produce next. Take care and Happy Days.🌞
14:46 Great video Roger! as always, but I think maybe one bottle of malt vinegar may not be enough if our French friends learn to enjoy it as much as we do! One bottle would probably last me 5 or 6 meals. I love it ! I'm watching from Thailand where both fish and chips and malt vinegar are very hard to find! Missing France too... Thank you
...and oh wow - imagine my surprise when one of the secrets of Douarnenez is: It harbours the 'Hydrograaf'! (1:18) With which I had many encounters when I lived and floated in and near Muiden - Holland. This vessel has quite a history and still plays a controversial role in contemporary Dutch culture. Cheers and thanks for taking part in this fine production. And of course sharing it.
Thanks - I love watching your videos. Your life is so much different than anything we have here in British Columbia - well except we do have water and boats. Looking forward to your next instalment.
Fantastic Roger , me n Liz n Barney boo the Cockerpoo visited your lovely town again last Wednesday , we thought we might have seen you knocking about but alas no ,, we know the fish n chip cabin “ le pesked “ very well , best fish n chips in france ! But the discovery of the post brexit tax on Sarsons grrrrrrr he is out of malt V grrrr bloody brexit !,, if it doesn’t get you in one way it gets you in another ,,, we offered to bring him some from our next uk trip back but he needed gallons of sarsons as is the demand … what a lovely little video of a special little town thankyou , enjoy the winter we are off to Spain in our camper next week but will keep up to speed with our piece of heaven Brittany ..
It’s nice to see that you, unlike so many of the (un)famous British Expats, learned the language of the country you moved to. It seems to be improved a lot too.
Another delightful video. Thankyou Roger and thank goodness the TH-cam algorithm has served me up something that isn’t to do with Budgets, US elections and all the other noise driving us all bonkers! 👍🏻
Bonjour Roger, love your videos. Just got our 1st vessel. A beautiful wood 1912 Raised deck motor launch here in the channel islands of Ventura California. Fantastic tour and well done. Nice to see you have a flat there. I was able to experience Doussard/Annecey. And completely Loved it. Look forward to your content. I will be stepping into a YT channel for our boat as well. Caio
As an OCH subscriber, I watched this a couple of Sundays ago. Now I’ve watched again and I must say, your theme music turned your 10 score up to 11. Simply charming! Not only will I repeat the performance, I’ll also visit your village in the future and feast on fish and chips and that buttery marvel you so generously shared with Steve.
A wonderful slice of your adopted town. I'm thinking to travel there (from Vancouver). The small towns, strong connection to older days is enticing. Thank you.
Wonderful tour of the town. We were there in late May/early June and also enjoyed a fish and chip lunch by the port from the same small shop and it was delightful!
Another fine video Rodger.Interestingly the Portuguese also have those communual washing places and I have seen them still being used here in central Portugal. In fact there is one about 150 meters from my own house.
Thank you for this delightful tour of your French home town. It's funny but it reminds me of Cornwall but also of the fishing towns and villages of the North Yorkshire coast. Hopefully it is rather more sheltered. The tour was great. It is lovely to see your videos, keep them coming please if you can. There are four big chippy's in my coastal town. That batter looked fab. I'm sorry for our vicarious 'living the (scenic/sailing)life' but you are such a tonic and at least they have a really friendly representative of your original country. Wonderful!
Thank you for the time and effort it must have taken to make this video. It’s a beautiful little town and now my wife and i will try and visit the town.
Scrumptious videography and lovely detailed and informative content! I could watch programming like this, with some sailing and sailboat builders/owners laced within, all day!
This is great. Know very little about this par of France, so these videos, are very informative. Fish and Chips locally and all the other attractions. Perfect.

Superb as always Roger, thank you
Big thanks to You! I waited impatiently for the next movie and it is so interesting and full of special charm ❤
Can't wait to see the footage you mentioned. This was sublime as usual. Thank you!
No rush, Roger, no rush.
lovely content, wonderful human....good luck finishing your place.
That's a fabulous tour. French towns always remind me that local economies and community can thrive so long as you keep big business away. And everything that matters revolves around food😋
The fish and chips part made me instantly hungry.
Same here. I was cursing Roger as now I'm longing for great fish and chips. Which is something hard to find here in Vancouver Canada. Despite being an ocean Port, most places are now owned by East Indians and they really don't seem to have a passion for it.
Was it proper chip's or French fries.
Fabulously narrated Roger, and delivered in a very relaxed style.
Thank you.
That was simply delightful to watch.
So glad to see you again, Roger!
Thank you for uploading again!

It's good to hear from you again. I find that a wide metal paint scraper works best when cutting deserts.
Very enjoyable Roger I love your videos John Brackenbury
Brilliant update Roger - thank you for taking the time and effort to do this.

A kouign amann, what else ? 😋😋
HAHA!!! Cutting the Kougin Amann with a carpentry square. I love it. *Thank you* Roger and OCH. Well done.
A very wonderful video that just makes me want to visit on my next trip
Fantastic Roger! I think it will be worth the trip just for the pudding let alone the place 😊

I really liked how you cut the dessert with the straight angle tool :D

Thank you, dear Roger, for this wonderful video.
Always a pleasure to watch your videos Roger, thanks.
Lovely town.
Thoroughly enjoyed the video.
You are a good man, sir
Entertaining and new type of video.
A boat, a harbor, a bistro. I want to move to France! Thanks!
Is there anything better on the internet than a Roger Barnes video? In my opinion not!
I could live in the Bistro with family above. What a good idea.
A new Roger Barnes production is a cue to sit down and relax for its duration ^_^

Great to see you again Roger what a beautiful video. Dournanez is on my wishlist for my next trip to France. Hope your renovations are going well.
Wonderful Roger. Thank you so much for sharing a part of your world with us.
Enjoyed another of your videos, as I subscribe both to your dinghy cruising site along with Off Center Harbor site. ✔️⛵️
Very good Roger, next time I come by I'll know not to come empty handed.

Yes, wine vinegar is just not the same. I may have to bring back some bottles when I go to see my father in the UK over xmas.
Your book and videos are fantastic Roger! Much appreciated sanity in this ever increasingly insane world! All the best, Thanks! Bran

Great compositions & audio. You could hear the batter crunch beneath Roger's fork!
Thank you from a guy living in this beautiful city since 2 years now !
Absolutely made my day. Thankyou Roger and you are blessed to live in a beautiful part of the world. Best wishes to you.
Keep filming Roger - your videos are wonderful

Très belle visite de Douarnenez. Merci Roger
A wonderful slice of your adopted town. I'm thinking to travel there (from Vancouver). The small towns, strong connection to older days is enticing. Thank you.
Mate, that was a US prime grade a stamp guaranteed (name the band) video. Absolutely excellent history and facts. Love it.
16:49 good use of carpenter's square mate!
Love Douarnenez, have sailed there from Plymouth a few times for the festival... They know how to do festivals..
So good Roj,always enjoy your vlogs
Wonderful tour of the town. We were there in late May/early June and also enjoyed a fish and chip lunch by the port from the same small shop and it was delightful!

Very good video indeed!!!

Nice to see a glimpse of your hometown.
Brilliant excellent what can I say.
As a kid I liked watching Julia Child. Butter was her main cooking ingredient. Lovely tour, cheers from Chicago.
What a lovely video. Always a pleasure to see the notification for a new video from you. Best wishes from Romania!
I really enjoyed this, laid back pace, interesting and important information with a sense of humour.. good stuff.
Thank you for the time and effort it must have taken to make this video. It’s a beautiful little town and now my wife and i will try and visit the town.
Only an architect would cut a pudding with a set square... :) i can't think of a finer way to live than in a French commune. You're very fortunate.
Superb Roger - thank you (from NZ)
Really lovely Rodger! - i enjoyed racing Spi Ouest and rambling around there a few years ago
Beautiful Roger. Well done and thank you!
Scrumptious videography and lovely detailed and informative content! I could watch programming like this, with some sailing and sailboat builders/owners laced within, all day!
This is great. Know very little about this par of France, so these videos, are very informative.
Fish and Chips locally and all the other attractions. Perfect.
Thank you kind sir…that was very enjoyable…well done…
That was charming Roger. A beautiful town with so much character and history. Many thanks.
I don't sail, but I really enjoy watching your channel Roger.
The town you live in looks like somewhere I could easily live as well.
Fantastic Roger. Thanks.
Great video. Would love to visit someday. Also love your closing song.
Magnificent Roger! So very well told...still awaiting your arrival on the Chesapeake, the ultimate raiding grounds
Great stuff Roger- can you do a video on how your town copes with an event like the boat Festival- Philip - Tasmania.
absolutely captivating
Thanks for the tour, beautiful place
Love all your videos they are so entertaining and refreshing.
Hahaha! The set square knife set le off laughing hysterically, thanks
God you live in a beautiful place Roger!, lovely to hear from you again. Best wishes. Gérard.
Excellent Roger, as always thankyou x x
Glad to have you back!
Great video too.
