My sailing days involved, shouting, leaping about, tripping over things, loosing gear overboard, no wonder the family hated it. I wish I’d seen your wonderful videos back then. I might have mended my ways and still been married. 😂

I’ve just come in from a day’s Powerboat Instructing in the Solent. Busy, busy and yet more busy. Fun and I love it, but this makes me smile as some years ago I had the perfect dinghy cruiser in a little Cornish Cormorant. Sadly it was slow and wallowy and fairly rubbish at punching into any chop. It was replaced by a Wanderer dinghy and I still held such dreams of camping etc. A few circumnavigations of Hayling Island are always a good way to test out the planning skills and get an excellent understanding of tide. In all honesty I became gently bored of getting nowhere slowly and moved to what is lovingly referred to by my dinghy and cruiser sailing friends as “The Dark Side”. I can be there and back in a day. I’ve done enough camping in the wilds around the world and wandering out to dig a hole to do my business is a thrill I’m less enamoured with nowadays. But, back to Roger he makes a wonderful travelogue and it draws you in to the slower pace of life. For me a gentle chug up river and being able to sleep in my own bed at the end of a long day (and feed the cats - who surround me now) is what I look for. Enjoy it Roger and if you ever need an early morning milk delivery and you’re in at least a meter and a half of water in the Solent let me know. Thanks for making my wind down after a day out a relaxing TH-cam experience.
My birthday was July 7th! Your video provided me a belated but happy and cheery gift. At 86 I still need a serious close hauled blow! You have a unique way of bringing to life my 40 and more years of sailing the West Coast of Canada, mostly the Strait of Georgia. Sailing with my wife, we've explored from the San Juans to Desolation Sound. So precious. I am also part of a special five-some group of sailing madbrains; we have met twice yearly since 1979, though now only one of us has a vessel, but we "sail" anyway. Like you Roger, it is the friendships that count, and we "sail along" with tall tales till the gulls interfere..........Thanks Roger! Rodney Vancouver Island
Hands down, the best video. Thank you for generously making all the 'placed camera' shots (so, so much logistical fuss but breathtakingingly poignant!) I actually screen-shot some frames they were so beautiful. It's such a funny business living a life. We see through our own eye-holes but we also see in our own minds-eye what we are doing, where we are, even, what it 'means.' Without any verbiage your camera sweeps it up, gathers it in. And sounds too. Reflecting on your video my sound memory brings back the bonk of the cook pot, the thunk of wooden boat parts, a muffled splash, even your real-time reporting of a night owl hunting and fish jumping.

Roger, Every time I see one of your videos, I have to consider the amount of time you spend crafting it. In just the opening, there are so many different angles where you have to place cameras, then retrieve the cameras you had previously placed, and then at home or in a work studio you have to edit out your trips to and from your cameras. I simply wouldn’t have the stamina to do that. Thank you so much for producing such beautiful content and all the labor you have to expend for so many to enjoy!

Just got back in from a nice trip in my rowing boat for an on the river breakfast; first time out since lockdown. This is a great way to round it off. Loved it Roger.
You really improved my mood after spending yesterday in a wet garage painting mine. Today the sun has come out and I'm getting on with the last coat of primer. I've devised a pandemic method of turning mine over. It normally takes 6 people to lift it off the framework and turn it over. The sound of owls reminds me of camping in France. I'd love to sail there too.

Thanks so much for the video. You are really inspiring me to do the same sort of multi-day trips with my TS16, and one can learn a lot by watching your boat handling techniques, anchoring etc. Greetings from South Australia.
Captures the essence and magic of cruiser dinghy sailing. I especially loved the opening shot. Sadly, so many people believe that all one can do in a dinghy is go and frantically race one for an hour or two, then return home or in the pub exhausted but satisfied. Instead, cruiser dinghies, even relatively modern ones like Wayfarers, Wanderers, or older ones like Roger's boat, or even my old Fairey Marine wooden Albacore from 1954 [which ok, is derived from a racing design] have loads of magic about them. Based in Southampton, UK, I would pop down to, or sail to Calshot and then slip round the castle along the coast or for a day trip or overnight to the Isle of Wight, with all its little creeks and rivers. Fantastic stuff, and so missed by the deep fixed keel-boat sailor. Any decent centreboard dinghy of reasonable length and decent storage, which isn't too wet and is a good sea-boat can do it, with a few mods.
Even though I'm a landlubber, I understand why you enjoy sailing. I enjoy the size and pace of your setup; I've been pondering ways to use my truck's bed for camping, and your dinghy is inspiring. Thank you for sharing, Sir!
