Thanks to Mike and Brian for putting up with us. It was an amazing place and we are ready to go back. I didn't realize at the time but Madrid falls is the 2nd highest waterfall in Texas, and the highest that is "accessible" by the public. I feel silly now for not working a little harder to get up close to the pools below it.
Grew up on that ranch. Learned to drive at 7 yrs old in a 1960 red Jeep CJ. There’s 329,000 acres there. The waterfalls used to be awesome but don’t flow so much now. Driving a red JL today at 68 yrs old. I love to go to that area.
Those views at 19:10! 😍 We still need to hit the state park section. Man, I would be afraid I'd wreck the truck on those climbs. Brave man. 💪 Great adventure. Nicely done.
It was probably our frontrunner table. We do have some of the flexible 100w panels That we will fasten to the rack under the tent, between the tent rails.
Excellent video man. My wife and I can't wait until we can get back out to Big Bend. We live in Sugar Land, TX near Houston. We want to do Guadalupe Mountains as well. I am new to video and trying to learn more videography and editing skills for our channel. How do you do the map animation showing your route? I'm currently just using an Iphone X and the free Imovie on my 2015 Macbook Air. We are seriously in need of some upgrades...Cool stuff man, keep it up.
Nice, I know Sugar Land, lived there for a while years back. I use DaVinci Resolve for editing and would of done that with the fusion tool in there. I’m a noob at it and usually try and learn from YT videos on editing.
I was just out at Rincon 2 last week and really appreciate your footage of the climb up to La Posta out of upper Fresno Canyon. (the film footage just doesn't capture the intensity, does it!?!) I'm curious - what do experienced overlanders do to protect their paint job from desert pinstripes? i know it's part of the price of admission, but no one wants premature rust if they can avoid it...
Hah, yea the camera never seems to justify the reactions of when you are actually in the rig for sure. I've never done anything special to protect the paint, and definitely have some scars from BBRSP. Its a 5 year old truck now and we bought it for this purpose so I don't worry about it too much.
@@ACEventure with it’s my dads truck and I’m only 13 but I got to drive a little and ended up doing 60 miles off-road then did old maverick road which was a mistake
Unclear why you aired down for the big bend backcountry roads. Did that trip every year from 1989-2000 in a 4x4 Ranger and we never had the need to adjust tire pressure for those roads.
The NatGeo layer in Gaia is pretty good for the NP. I found a kmz in the files section of the texas overland facebook page that is pretty good for BBRSP with all the campsites and roads labeled.
Since you traveled both the Ranch and National park how would you compare the road conditions btw them. How about pin striping you truck which was worse. Ken
I think I missed this before. BBRSP has more stuff that requires 4x4 high clearance and definitely more pinstripeing on the unmaintained parts. NP it’s mainly old ore and black gap, but both are pretty mild outside of a few spots.
Hey I know it's been more than a year since this trip but was wondering if you remember how many gallons of gas you were carrying? I'm headed out there soon with my LX470, she's a thirsty gal
I only carry ~5 gallons. The NP usually has gas at Panther Junction and maybe Rio Grande Village, so you can top off when you are near one of those places. The state park has no gas what so ever so more critical to have extra there.
Awesome video. I live in Houston as well and am planning on heading out to Big Bend soon! I’m just getting started in overlanding, did y’all use any apps for finding these trails?
I use lots of different layers in Gaia. The National Geographic trails illustrated is pretty good for the National park and I got a KMZ file somewhere for the state park, I think from the Texas overland group.

Really enjoyed your video!
Thanks, glad you liked it.

That's awesome! Amazing place.
You go to some really beautiful places
That's the goal!
man I love your taste in music. great editing!
Thanks! Finding the right music can be a challenge sometimes.
I was camping at on old ore rd at that time also. We were in a red Jeep with the matching red trailer.
Nice!
Nice job driving those step ups around 4:45 ! Beautiful area for overlanding !
Thanks 👍
Glad to see you posting again! Enjoyed this vid & look forward to the next.
Thanks, life has just been crazy, and as bad as I am at editing I have to dedicate some time to sit down and just do it. Hope you all are well.

Your editing and music is great, so the added wait time makes it worth it. Yes doing well, can't complain 😊
@@pirkeycj08 Good to hear, hopefully we will see you out there on the trail again someday.
Great video, cool to see you all exploring together.
Thanks 👍
We had such a great time!
Indeed!
bro the coffee cut at 07:00 LMFAO PERFECT
Haha, I think I was annoyed at the interruption!
We are heading to big bend next month! Can’t wait!! Thanks for sharing. New to your channel
You’ll love it. We are headed back next January I think.

Thanks! We were super impressed with the State Park, different, but just felt very remote back on the 4x4 roads with very few other people.
I did a bikepacking trip out there a couple weeks ago. Saw a guy run the old ore road in a Tesla Model S. Craziest thing I've seen!
That's nuts. Old Ore is nothing crazy, but no way would I try to take a Tesla over it. Seems like you would pop a tire or bend up a rim if not worse.
@@ACEventure He said that he did mess up something on his undercarriage when I talked to him but that was it. He was completely solo, big balls.
Very Good
Thanks!
What were the slick solar panels sliding into rack?

Could you make a video of all the equipment you take with you when you go off reading and camping? Please and thank you!
I've been meaning to put together a walkaround video of what we've done to the rig over the last year or so and our camping loadout. We'll see!
Steven Wright does overlanding Lol! I made it through 30 seconds of deadpan commentary.
I think this means you hated it?

Did you air down on black gap?
I did, but I always air down if I’m going to be off pavement for many miles. It’s just a smoother more comfortable ride.
We did black gap in a 2000 ford excursion
With or without a mullet?

¿Could a Toyota RAV4 make it?
Maybe? I'm not really sure. There's a place or two where you would probably scrape pretty good.
