This is one of those games that my father and I bonded over. Good times.
Ah, I remember this game. A tough as nails shoot ‘em up with great music, and great powerups if you can keep them. I also remember the struggle of dodging the unwanted weapon cards. Those don’t go away until they hit edge of the screen for the 12th time!

One of my favorites as a kid. Could always pop this fucker in. The music was banging, and those explosion sounds are just badass.

Mike you should try out the vertical shmup Strike Gunner STG. I’ve never played the arcade game, but I’ve played the snes port. You select a special weapon at the beginning of each stage, it’s pretty cool. I remember liking it. I also remember it being pretty tough. Also Congrats on beating Fire Shark, I remember watching this stream when you did it, wow that’s a crazy hard game
My favorite shooter growing up is 1942 battle for midway nes good sprites good music strategy with power ups and big bosses and gets challenging at the end

Krampus 2015 is a great Horror Comedy if you haven't seen it, its great!
Recommendation: Harmful Park on PS1 (Japanese cute-em-up) is amazing and hilarious. I beat it a while back with a friend.

I like Fire Shark, do you usually use Turbo Fire in Shmups?
The Original SEGA wireless six button controllers are the size of the 3 buttons or even somewhat bigger, they have a nice size, and they work pretty OK I think, but you have some delay with the infrared sender/receiver, OK enough for many games, like Sonic and such, but not optimal for more precise timing type games. And the more mushy style D-Pad of the SEGA D-Pad types. But overall not as bad as people will tell you they are, can sit in a wide angle and pretty far away without much issues.
Vapor Trail is another shmup I like, it is too hard for me, but I like to just fire it up, listen to the cool music and play some. Someday I will finish it probably, or, maybe one day atleast.. Not played it in ages though.. Maybe I should try again soon.

Mike in "Fear the Walking Dead" they do go on a boat, a nice fully stocked yacht with a water purification system. They fish and it works out fine until pirates attack them. It is a good idea though.

Avoid the green laser , the spread regular is better, you have to carry the fire as long as you can , if u lose it , might as well start over……

I dunno whether it was this stream or the Gekirindan stream that made me think about what my preferred way of powering up in a shmup would be. Going by what I played recently something like 1942 is simple and perfect, just pick up the power-up and it gets equipped. I agree with Mike that the bell system of the Twinbee games is a stupid way of powering up but I also grew to dislike the Gradius system with having to pick up a certain number of power-ups to select the power-up you want. It added a bit of strategy, I give it that, but not a big fan of this.
Recently started watching a 1936 movie serial named Ace Drummond where the hero is a pilot flying biplanes and thought about how that could be made into a good shmup as well where you would commandeer a biplane.

Yea the Game Awards is lame! At first I thought it had at least a granule of merit by having a voting system but I read this tidbit and realized it's as arbitrary as the Nintendo seal of approval 😆

@@mikematei Yea, I see what you're saying. It's arbitrary even when the public decides because games are played individually. Fundamentally I agree with you and that's what I do after all. There's always games I liked that no one else gave a crap about and the other way around.
I'm just saying if award shows have to exist, at least do them some justice.
