- Trying out an NES mod called Mega Man CX. To be fair I was playing an early version of this romhack. I believe it got an update later that fixes some of these issues.

Since you're playing as Wily's Mega Man clone in this hack, fighting on Wily's side, it seems like a big miss to not have at least a few of the other Wily robot masters to play as. Just that brief bit as Quick Man almost makes it worse because you get a taste of what it could have been. Interesting idea, lots of potential, but could use some more work.
I agree. What a missed opportunity. You should be saving one of the old school Wily robots on each level. You should be using them instead of acquiring such garbage powers from those current bosses.

I’m willing to come back to it someday if the guy does a major overhaul on some things. I know there is already a version after this. But what you said is true. You need to be able to play as other robot masters too. And for longer periods of time. I think the fact that you fight mega man and get his ability is weird when you ARE mega man. If you played the whole game as quickman, it would make more sense. Because this means that Dr. Wily decided to make a mega man robot himself but make him gray? Its weird.
@@mikematei I think the "lore" of this hack is that you are playing as Wily's Megaman clone. At least that's how I interpreted it. So when you fight Megaman, you are the clone, and the boss is the actual Megaman.
That nuance doesn't make up for the other issues though.

That Quick Man element stage is a nonsenical mess! I was right there with Mike upon his triumphant feelings after conquering that 1 room only to get immediately and jaw-droppingly dejected upon the realization there was another puzzle after that. That's dirty, man.
Megaman Unlimited and Megaman Rockforce are the absolute best MegMan Fangames imo, all with their own Robotmasters and unique very very good soundtrack

@@GenyaArikado I didn’t know about megaman beyond. I’ll play it once it gets full release. Also I think revolution remix got stalled or cancelled. There hasn’t been any updates on it

@@GenyaArikado looks good for a remake of a fan game. I haven’t heard anything from them in their forums since 2020. Even their twitter is gone. No discord. But I know I will look forward to beyond and shattered diamonds and probably x8 demake cause they could be released by later this year

I died a little inside when he played Hollow Knight and hated it since I loved the game. Both it and Tunic have some dark souls inspiration but one of his complaints about HK was that the opening area wasn't colorful enough. Tunic doesn't have that problem.

I find it funny how there's a pokemon romhack called polished crystal that has the megaman 3 theme, yet this has the pokemon theme.

Quickman was such a troll straight out of MMX3 where you could play as Zero, for a whole second.

Hey Mike I noticed you weren’t dashing. The dash in this hack is not just a reskinned slide. First, it increases your speed by a lot. You use it to get beyond the lasers that were giving you trouble. Second, if you jump out of a dash, you’ll jump much higher. You were often using Floor to access places that you’re intended to dash up to. In addition to the dash, you also have a wall jump, which would help in those spots where climbing or Floor are too slow.
Only "QUICK MAN" can climb walls and wall jumping. FakeMega - can't do that
@@diablo666zx3 That is not correct. You do unlock a walljump (not X-style like Quick Man's, more SMB1-style), although it has been a long time and I have totally forgotten at which point that happens.
If CHEATMAN wipes out the floor, you can use 1FLOOR to hang on
Rockman No Constancy, Mega Man Unlimied and Rockman 4: Minus Infinity are some of the best Megaman rom hacks ever made, play them Asap Mike! 🤠

Damn i was sure Mike was going to beat this after actually defeating Cheat Man. He's pretty much the biggest chokepoint in this hack.
Wonder if you could trigger the screen to move by using floor to jump up instead of climbing the ladder. Might could out run that beam without Uber charge...

Mike, i honestly think that Cheat Man boss fight is broken. There's no way 1 boss fight should be that difficult. The part where half of the room falls out has to be a glitch. Plus that one hit death thing he does is obsurd. It's hard for me to believe it was intended and programmed to be that difficult.
Its true IDEA, because CheatMan use "Cheats" and his stage "glitch for cheat"!
Also - I was looking at a version called "BETA 0". This version did not have a redrawn "Heatman". And there the boss killed with a single touch, if you touched him. The boss was unkillable, and attacks did not exist for the boss, since only the AI was copied to him.
That is, initially it was made "Very difficult" (Although the most difficult boss is: *Rush* and *Dr.Light*)

Hey Mike, great stream as usual. This hack definitely has some BS design decisions. Anyway, my recommendations are both fan games, not rom hacks (and I've finished both myself). The first is Mega Man Unlimited (has actual fair challenge and loads of secrets and bonus content), and the second is Rokko Chan, which was originally an Adobe Flash game, but is now a downloadable program file since Flash is no longer supported. It's a Mega Man game in all but name and setting.
I played Unlimited years back.
@@mikematei Ah, ok. I've got a couple other suggestions, both of which ARE rom hacks so they'd be Everdrive compatible. The first is Mega Man X3: Zero Project, which re-balances the game so that X's buster is far more useful, adds save files, and allows you to play as Zero at all times, even from the start.
The other is Mega Man 4: Voyage, which I haven't played myself but I've seen a video of, and it seems like you'd probably enjoy it.
Next you should try out the ninja gaiden hack called deadpool nes

What I hate about MegaMan games is if the boss runs into you you lose energy but if you run them then don’t lose any energy weird

Since the intro stage is a direct reference to the Mega Man X3 intro stage, I was kinda wondering why you were apparently only able to play as Quick Man for a brief bit when you could play Quick Man's equivalent in Mega Man X3 (Zero) more often. Apparently by the rom description, you should be able to switch to Quick Man once per level (though if it works like MMX3, you cannot go into any boss rooms with him). His wall jump abilities might help with that laser beam part although, again based on MMX3, if he dies once, he does not come back.
Cheat Man certainly lives up to his name, what a crazy robot master fight XD
Never beat a Mega Man hack so far, so no recommendations from my side though I want to get into those more since I have the same feeling with the vanilla Mega Man NES games as you have with the Legend Of Zelda NES games: I love them but I have beaten them so many times that I need a new challenge. Should I encounter an interesting one that I have beaten, I'll let you know.
