Please, please do a video on the chassis work that needs to be done like coolant lines, fuel lines, routing intake and intercooler piping, and vacuum lines.
996 engines comes with 3 different ecus, depending on the date of manufacture. 5.2, 7.2 and 7.8. The 5.2 has a completely different connector. Think this is important to know, because 5.2 needs a completely different adapter kit and 7.2 and 7.8 use the same adapter but have a different pin configuration. Greetings from near Zuffenhausen.
Ive always wanted a 99 c2, I wanna strip the interior, toss a cage in, do cup car doors carbon hood and 1/4's and have a Turbo K swap. I can afford the $20k for the donor car, i didnt have any examples to show what i needed done...and i dont have tens of thousands to toss at a shop until they figured it out. This helps immensely. The goal is 2,700lbs and 500whp.
Hey nick, have you done any testing to see what sort of power level a Honda automatic can handle? I’m handicapped and own a C4S with a blown motor. Do you make an adaptor for the Porsche auto?
Hey bro where I can buy all those stuffs? And please let me know how or what I need to do to swap from automatic gearbox to manual! I’m looking for a 996! Thanks 😊
Yea the spark plugs and coils can never come out unless you drop the engine. Unless you cut out into the car I would guess. At this point this would be the better route
The engine is the cheapest part of the swap they sell between 600-1500$ the most expensive stuff is all the adapters and pieces around it. I've done an ls swap and the engine was the last of my worries. Think of it as the engine being 10% of the cost.of the swap
I get it’s a base 996 chassis and that motor isn’t exactly amazing but this just seems dumb and the answer to a question no one asked. This is just a harder to work on slightly more reliable(maybe) 944…What’s the point in this again? Literally just go buy a 944 at least no one really cares if those get ruined.
$500 engine, nearly double the horsepower, sold 100 ft/lbs of torque across the whole rev band, better gas mileage, FAR more reliable, and did I mention $500 engine?!? You pop an M96 (I sold mine to a guy who was just driving it and it self destructed) and it’s minimum $5k for a 100k mile example. $25k if you want to rebuild it. You can do this swap for half the cost of a rebuild…
@@Anewconvert but this kit is $15k US plus install. Another $5k gets you a solid rebuild on the Porsche. I fail to see the point when the end result is a 911 that sounds like a civic, power gains aside obviously
The kit is not $15k, it’s under $10k. All in for parts you are about $15k if you shop new. I’m at about $13k right now. Got $4k for my M96 which I could have sold for more. I’m doing the work myself, so call it $1000 for tools I didn’t have (and that’s a liberal number). A reputable rebuild starts around $25k if you drop the engine yourself, ship the engine, and reinstall it. More if you want a displacement increase. And then you still have an engine with the same problems as the stock M96, same reliability issues, and the same costs if something goes wrong. I pop my K24Z7 I can’ get another one TOMORRROW for $500. I pop an M96 the car is down for 6 months at a minimum and costs me at least another $6k to replace it There are a lot of reasons to swap it out. And I happen to like the sound of a K series spinning at 8500 rpm, so that isn’t a negative to me
Take good care of my car, Nick! 😂 (that's right everyone, get in line behind me if you want to buy this car when Nick's done with it)
This is great!
Lol
You should call it 912 :D
I’m honestly much more excited for you to get working on the 986 swap. I’ve got an ex PCA challenge Boxster shell just waiting for a k swap!
I've got a 99 just sitting in the garage literally collecting dust, so I'm in the same boat!
I'll be looking forward to seeing the install of the engine management & harness/ ecu adapter. Great work so far!
Good video! looking forward to EP2. 997 brace seems the way to go.
Seeing the quality of these parts and the thought behind each part and the kit as a whole, I really can't wait for the Boxster version!
OH MY DAYS YOU LEGEND

Interesting. Good to know. Waiting for Nick's feedback
I'm not too sure if he addressed this but is the 5.2 ECU isn't that for cars that have cable throttle bodies?
Yes, that’s the ECU for the cable cars, hence the lack of compatibility with the wiring harnesses available for swaps
This is so damn cool. Huge props to you for doing this
Cayman please? 😊

Amazing swap 😁 I would do this if I could afford a Porsche 🙏
Nick you a genuis
LETS GO!

this is incredible
How do you fill/check the oil? 😅
Great to see R&D in action! Curious if anyone knows if there are any issues getting cars with engine swaps to pass annual US DMV emissions testing??
Hey bro where I can buy all those stuffs? And please let me know how or what I need to do to swap from automatic gearbox to manual!
I’m looking for a 996!
Thanks 😊
honestly cant wait to do this swap in the future. My only thing is, do you have to drop the motor to change coil packs and spark plugs?😅
Wondering the same thing. Hoping Nick can give some insight.
Yea the spark plugs and coils can never come out unless you drop the engine. Unless you cut out into the car I would guess. At this point this would be the better route
Can you creat a parts list of what you recommend in a Google sheet? 🙏
Any plans to throw a kit together for a 964/993 at all? Would love to have options out there
I would guess against it. Converting a aircooled 911 to run with a watercooled engine is alot more expensive and complicated.
Who voluntarily devalues an air cooled 911? Esp a 964/993
Anyway to buy the car with the swap installed ?
You should weight the engine with the engine and then with the Honda engine lmao
Nick do u remote tune?
Nick, would this work on a convertible 996,
Yes. It’s basically the same
It would be a PIA to replace spark plugs .
k24 dsg update???
Whats the website?
what would you charge..also are the used motors worth anything

Nobody cares if a 996 gets “ruined” either. It’s not a turbo, these engines are hot garbage. This is an upgrade
