    great buy
redo a full coolant bleed but with the car front DOWN ( stands in the back only )
you have air in the system that wont go away
-put max coolant > warmup until thermostat open > open bleeder on the cap > let air out
-go for a ride 5min > stop > open bleeder again
    -last coolant level
    its a known issue
its a free fix if its works

Was looking forward to the second video on this car. Early 996's run particularly hot. The fan resistors will probably not work very properly anymore. Trigger highspeed fan with the aircon button helps. Or install a proper switch to have fans at 100% speed wen you want it.
Other maintenance, low temp thermostat so the thermostat opens earlier, new waterpump (with plastic impeller).
The earokit bumper in combination with the skirts is really nice, makes it a bit a 996 T. Looking for a aerobumper myself for mine.
Early 996 (the .1's aren't really prone to bore scoring (MY 1997-early 2000 ones), the do crack heads sometimes, also ims failure is rare on these, since it is dual row).

Nice new project, if you email Porsche in Germany since you have done work for them, they will gladly give you the info you need to get to the root of the overheating problem, a friend of mine who lives in Germany and did work for them back in the early 2000's had issues with a Porsche he bought used a year later about the IMS bearing and the local Porsche dealer wouldn't help him in any way and got the info from Porsche just from sending an email to the division he did the work for and they recommended exactly what he needed to hear, maybe you could get the same if need be, i think you'll solve it without that, i know they pressure test to find out if the head gasket is weak or leaking, look forward to the next video 👍cars in greast condition for its age

Did also the cleaning of the radiators, GT3 low temp thermostat, GT3 water pump, but in traffic it still gets warm (no overheating). Engine is rebuilt 5.000km ago, so engine is fine. I guess its just how the 996 is designed.

996 is my favorite 911 generation, and yours is stunning! Recent porsche owner myself, bought a 944 a few months ago. It also has some very finicky cooling issues. Going off the fact that this is a flood title, I would really dial in the electrical aspect. Could be a short somewhere and the cooling fans aren't running. I'd also check the temp sensor(s), as they could be giving false readings to both the gauges but also the ecm. Good luck! Can't wait to see where this goes.

Valve timing check and timing check at manual RPM numbers. Coolant hoses look small coming off the radiators. That and the distance they travel could be an issue. Blockage inside the cooling jacket of the head (lost socket). Bad head gaskets. Caked on piston tops. Caked on combustion chambers in the heads. Leak in the heater hoses or coolant hoses. I would replace all coolant hoses to get the system back new again, without doubt. The old original radiators. New radiators work best after 80000 miles. Water pump blocked or not working. Adding an aftermarket oil cooler and new oil pressure gauge would help out a lot. That center radiator sounds like insurance on such a great car. Research this stuff.

  • @Dewree69

The coolant system is notoriously hard to bleed on these cars, maybe it's just not bled properly! Maybe the thermostat is faulty? I'd also recommend a head gasket tester from any car parts store - usually a blue liquid tank that turns yellow if there are any exhaust gasses in the cooling system. That's a pretty cheap and definitive way to find out if your cooling issues are caused by a head gasket or something else.

Great camera work on this one. Your oil pressure looks a bit low also, possibly needs a new sender as i saw it was quite delayed when you started the engine in your garage. Coolant probably needs bleeding or worst case put a couple of new rads in, at the least they'll increase your cooling by 5-10% and might be all you need. for me, there must be a block somewhere or a half closed thermostat. personally I don't believe in air in the system because there's a safety valve (at least in 2000s VAG cars) in the coolant bottle, if there is air, there would be more pressure than the normal and that pressure exit through that valve. bold choice I must say. love it!

Great work cleaning out those air ducts. Very satisfying. If the resistors didn’t cure the cooling issues, you should try and bleed the cooling system. Use new coolant (it probably needs it) and buy a vacuum bleeder if you don’t already have one. The flat six is notorious for retaining air and the vacuum bleeder is the only way. If that doesn’t help you need to check the Thermostate and the water pump. A good flush would also help. The car looks to be in excellent condition underneath. In Europe they look a lot different. 😅

Check the thermostat and radiator. Usually on old cars, the thermostat will open slowly or partially and the radiator may have mud like gunk below the core.

It never passed the third white line and after you cleaned out the radiators it’s sitting right below it which is around 200-210. My C class also normally sits at about 200 which is slightly past the mid mark.

Just change the water pump and thermostat (get a low temp). Easy job and most consider it a preventative maintenance item.

Replace the coolant, and use the proper Porsche stuff. :) Also use a pressure bleeder. They are an investment for sure. But it makes diagnosing the coolant issues so much easier.

Hi, cool video, lovely colour! I just bought a 911 996 aero myself and i was wondering if you know the brand/ model of your infotainment system? It looks nice, i’m looking voor one but don’t want t spent the enormous amount Porsche asks for their apple carplay unit. Thanks!

I would start with a coolant bleed becuase its the easiest and cheapest, but in my expeirence a delayed overheating has usually been due to a fualty radiator

Looks so much better without the dumb stripes lol.
Love the 996, absolutely my favorite 911. Probably because it's 'our generation's' 911.
12:08 oh it's definitely louder than stock. I was already thinking that when you gave it some at 7:30.
