    not many knows that the mode selector can automatically determine the subdivision. for example the 200ms position is for dotted eighth when using the tap tempo :)

    Thanks for posting this, DD-3 sounds noticeably better to my ears.

      I normally don’t hear big differences in these videos, but it sounded completely different.

      @@joshie4330 How? The DD3 did seem to have less high end but...isn’t a digital delay for a perfect replication of the delay? I think the DD3T is better

      I can agree it did sound slightly better in this video but I think the only way to really hear the difference and which one you'd prefer is to play through both yourself. I personally would just go with a DD3 considering its probably almost identical in sound and half the price used.

      @@alexmurphy5289 The DD3-T sounds thinner and brighter. Different digital delays do sound different. The best way to experience this for yourself would be to get several pedals and/or rack units together and listen closely. I'm not a pedal builder so I can't say what causes the difference in this case, but generally speaking, with digital there are many factors that influence the sound, besides the code itself. Analog to digital conversion and then digital to analog conversion is a big one. Also sample rate, bit depth.

    Timely video! I was just wondering this as I'm thinking of getting a DD3.

    I’m convinced if anyone says they can hear a difference they’re lying

    • @alexmurphy5289
      @alexmurphy5289 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      They are definitely lying. “But The DD3 has a LONG CHIP inside!” It sounds exactly the same, no one cares what chip is inside your metal enclosed guitar effect, cork sniffers.

      @@alexmurphy5289 It may sound the same to you, but the chip processes the echos differently and so it factually will not sound the same. Whether that difference is perceivable to the user or is worth worrying about if it is perceivable, that’s different. Yes guitar pedals are made of metal, but the chips are what processes the sound so I would care about that. I like both the new and old pedals.

      @petetestube2904 I have not looked at the chip in this new one, but there is a definitive different processing of the echos between different models. here is a quote that might help explain the difference between the chips in this line of delays: “The long chip DD2/3 circuit architecture is based on the DM2, just replacing the bucket brigade chip with a digital sampling one.
      Every repeat is re-sampled every pass through which leads to the "analogue" style natural decay, and you can add simple caps etc across the feedback/level pots as they carry the actual repeat signal each time
      The long chip itself adds it's character to each delay, just like the BBD chips do/did - one is not better than the other just different but given the same architecture it is in the same overall "juicy" natural delay echo ballpark.
      Later DD models(after DD3 I think) sample once and then sends out the number of repeats as per the feedback knob, all pristine no decay etc however there may be some digital algorithm trickery to mimic decay tone. This architecture tried to mimic something by just not doing it right in the first place. Stick with pristine delay as a selling point for those delays, that's my opinion.”

    BOSS should reissue the DD-2 with the original long chip. Or at the very least, make a digital model of the DD-2 and include it in a future version of DD series of pedals.

      DD-8, there is a warm mode which is modelled after DD-2.

    Hm, DD-3T no longer has the magical warmness of the DD-3. The DD-3T has a very average "dry" jingling digital sound. Just not bad...
