      No argument here. Boss has always made fantastic Delays. I own the DD-500, and it's Phenomenal. "My delay-search ended with that one" - I've said it before. Andy Martin can make a Tuna-fish-can sound incredible.

    I have a secret method of judging pedals:
    How often does Andy smile at the sounds he and the pedal makes during the demo. This Boss dd-8 has a high ASI:
    (Andy Smile Index).
    I believe I’ll get one.

  • @jszack
    @jszack 3 ปีที่แล้ว +54

    It is indeed underrated--as much as I love all of my boutique delays, especially when you run a smaller board and aren't committed to one particular tone, the sound and functionality of this can't be beat. If you want a multi-function delay that's not bogged down by menus and hidden modes/parameters (assuming you don't need MIDI or Presets), this is the one to get. I had the DD-500 and DD-200, but the DD-8 got used the most and stayed in the collection (surprised myself).

    • @bettermetalsnake95
      @bettermetalsnake95 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can definitely understand why, if only I knew how to recreate all of these tones on my DD-500. I get option paralysis when I dive into that pedals menu.

    • @davidoof1826
      @davidoof1826 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've had loads of delays over the years from cheapies to boutique exotica. They may not be the 'best sounding'-although they sound fantastic--but I'm never frustrated by the single-pedal BOSS delays. They are flexible, gig-robust and pedals like this are ridiculously versatile, which is great when you're trying not to own dozens of pedals.

    Great demo of an excellent stompbox at an affordable price. That said, we will still be having a significative percentage of guitarists that will spend unprecendeted amounts of big bucks on "boutique" delays. Guitarists are a strange bunch of people: eternally unsatisfied and obsessed by a sound quest that only exists in their minds.

    • @AndyDemos
      @AndyDemos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I see the “tone quest” as as education. Once you learn how a signature sound is made, you can stop obsessing about it but have it in your back pocket to use whenever the need arises.

    I've been playing my DD-7 the past few days for the first time in quite awhile and it's one of my favorite pedals, if not my very favorite. It just sounds so good and works so well. You wouldn't think a little stompbox could be so powerful, especially considering how big they make many pedals nowadays. Boss makes amazing pedals.

While I love them all, tomorrow I am going into GC to grab the DD8, they just put it aside for me, and I am so excited. I'm keeping the muff and the fathom, but afterneath wasn't a great mesh for my sound and I also have the hof2 anyhow. And for delay I already have the DD4, and figured I could part with the carbon copy. Parting is such sweet sorrow, but I'm a proud pedal slut. I really appreciate it! I got a little carried away on this vid but I guess it shows how powerful this pedal is. Cheers!

    My go-to test for how good an analog delay is I play the intro to Your Love by the Outfield.

    It's obviously great Andy, but will I ditch my DD7 for it? Probably not.

    Nice playing & demo. Are you using an invisible flat pick, or your thumbnail?

    Thank you so much for a yet another great demo! And this is coming form a drummer and bass player 🙂 I have a question: I am looking for a Delay pedal with reverse and tap tempo (although the Glitch of the DD8 also seems amazing!) and I reduced my options to two: the DD8 and the EHX Canyon. For bass, which one would you recommend? I do have already the Keeley Caverns and I'm planning to use one of these two options running into the Caverns. Thanks again!

      Hey I’m glad you enjoyed the demo! Although they both sound great and have many modes, I’d go with Boss based on their reliability and no frills dialing in. However if you need those extra parameters, the EH would be the perfect choice for this price range. Good luck and thanks for watching!

      @@AndyDemos Thanks for your answer! And it makes sense, yeah. I love Boss (I have 3 of their pedals) because of what you say and their excellent sounds. I'll check the extra parameters, but I think it'll the DD8. Thanks yet again!

    I have a dd3 and it sounds awesome but it cant handle high gain tone and start to add noise hope DD8 can handle it :)

      I think you’d like the Warm or Analog mode for high gain. Thanks!

    Great demo as always bud. Sold my CC deluxe for this. I made the right move and I just learned some tricks with it. Love this delay! Would love to see you do a demo with the new Boss RC 5 looper. The thing is a MAJOR upgrade from the RC 3. Happy Holidays from PA!!

    Pretty much a dream pedal for me. $200 is pretty steep though for a single pedal, well, for me.

    This is a great pedal. Using it right now on my Van Halen to go board in the delay/reverb setting.

    In my opinion, the FS5U is still the best tap switch ever invented.
