- Check out the Best $50 Knife on the Market, This is an American made pocket knife that is the perfect EDC knife and made by Buck. See my full review and comparison to Case Sod Buster, Benchmade Taggedout, Spyderco paramilitary 2, and CJRB Hectare. This is the best knife for the money!
Here is the link to where I fine tune and slick up the action of this knife:

My favorite knife company, they’ve never disappointed me with their quality, price and sharpness of their knives. That is a cool one you got there
Buck does a great job , hopefully they will stay on track
The 722 has been my EDC for the past 7 years and still performs like the day I took it out of the box. An awesome knife! No blade wobble, the finish is still perfect and takes an edge like you'd expect from a Buck knife.
Mine, the one in the video is still stiff. I’ve loosened the pivot screw and that is not the problem. Something in the back spring lock mechanism is rubbing. I will have to disassemble and investigate
That is a sweet Buck. Thanks for showing it.👍🇺🇲
Thanks for checking it out
I love this knife so much I have 3 of them! I’ll probably get a custom one soon.
@@SometimesDIY they are great knives
You can get S35vn powdered steel blades in Bucks Custom shop line. the 722 marking stamp on the blade to the right of it is the Bucks date stamp what year it's made it's on all Buck knives!
Great looking knife. I'm not much on modern knives but that looks very usable. Have a wonderful day today
Well, other thanCase and Buck, there are not many more American made knives out there. They did a good job on this knife. If you get a chance to hold one, you should check it out. Great knife for the price.
@@JohnKlahr exactly why I don't discriminate about the modern look.
Nice looking Buck spitfire! I have the 112 slim select that is also made in the USA and goes for $30. Thanks for showing us the spitfire. ❤️🔪
Thank you for checking it out
I agree!! I bought one and then I Ordered a custom one. Love the 726 Mini also!
How did you configure your custom order?
Please tell, and thanks for checking out my video.
I got that same exact knife off Amazon about a year ago I luv it.
I got mine from Amazon also, $49 delivered
Beautiful knife, thanks for sharing. I purchased one a few mothers ago in Nevada for about $50.00. Bought this knife by watching knife doctor videos. I was not disappointed. I am Learning a lot from your videos, thanks again. Can’t wait for your next video
Thanks for checking out the video and taking the time to share your comments
beautiful piece, usa made and with the legendary bos heat treat.
well worth the money, i'd take this over a flashy chinese flipper any day of the week.
great review as well, thanks and regards from switzerland🍻
@@Schnoizl thank you, hope all is well
They're just tuff great knife ive own mine for about a year now still very stiff not a problem for me cuts everything well thanks
I really like the 722 spitfire. I put a bench made deep Carry pocket clip on it and it fits and works well. Thank you for sharing.
I’m going to use the benchmade clip as well
Still have a Buck 110 on my hip 40 years later. But that looks like it would be a good skinning knife.
It’s really is a nice little knife
722 Buck is 420hc which has a very high corrosion resistance and is a tough blade. Great knife for the money.
Yes , I messed up and called it 440 in the video but still love what Buck does with this steel
Thanks for checking out the video
@@JohnKlahr Buck does the best job out there with 420HC.
I bought a 722 Spitfire in 2015 when they first came out and were right under $30. I returned it because I despised the spring bar design that supports the lockback lever. It's a thin and flat piece of metal and you could really feel it flexing under pressure from the contact with the lockback lever. You can grab the blade and wiggle it up and down and make the lockback lever tap on the springbar so there's a definite gap.
Yes, they have beefed up that spring. Check out my other video where I slick up the action. It shows me modifying that spring
Agreed about the 420HC!! I actually WANT Buck’s 420HC because of their heat treat. It really is their “secret sauce” that makes them hold and edge and easy to sharpen! I believe it since I got my 119 and now 192.
@@danieljaymeshansel5086 secret sauce!
Yes I have an identical one. Can’t beat em!
Had it long? Did it come razor sharp like this one?
@@JohnKlahr
I’ve had it a month and it came sharp also. It wasn’t quite as easy to open at first as yours. I like everything about it. I tell you what ,after I stropped it that sucker will bite ya!
My favorite Bucks were the 112 and the 276 Alpha Hunter. This makes it 3. Subscriber from Malta - Europe.

Hey John, I really like my Spitfire and so I put a Lynch clip on mine because I wanted a deep carry clip on it. It worked out great. Take Care.
I sent you a couple pictures via Instagram.
Music to my ears. Buck makes fantastic knives.
Yes and in America
722 the mark afterwards is the manufacture date mark you can date buck blades
Sold me on it. good review.
Dunno so much about that, I think my Ka-Bar was around $50 in 82, when I bought it.
Beautiful knife what number is the smaller one I like it also buck used 420 HC steel good steel
Do to the solid aluminum body, I thought it would be the perfect lower priced usa made beater knife until I snapped the blade doing something I shouldn't have. Just a heads up to others, Buck's 420hc heat treated blades represent great value if used for knife tasks. If used abusively to hammer through a nail like their emblem shows it'll break.
I ordered a custom spitfire.I have not received it yet . It just looks like a good EDC knife
Please share a photo with us when you get it
Nice edge profile

Sweet knife !!!
Hi John, just wondering if after some time has passed if you still think the buck spitfire is still the best knife you can buy for $50. Thanks for your videos!
@@MountainManKnives64 , USA made? Yes . Case Sod Buster Jr in yellow syn. With CV would be close 2nd at only $35-$39
@@JohnKlahr Thanks John, I'm gonna buy the buck spitfire today. The only thing I don't like is the pocket clip. Did you ever find an aftermarket replacement for it?
@@MountainManKnives64 check out my follow up video, slicking up the action on the spitfire. I used a Benchmade style clip
@@JohnKlahr Yes sir I watched that video too and you had mentioned maybe you would look for an aftermarket clip. I have a spare clip from a Benchmade bugout. I'll try that but it's black so it won't match the knife but it is what it is right 😂 Thanks John. Hope you're doing ok now after the hurricane. I'm in Western North Carolina so I know what you're going through.
No one does a better hollow grind blade better than Buck 😊
@@propblast82nd yes and I like a good hollow grind
Looks like it would make a good EDC blade. Buck usually builds a pretty darn good knife, especially for being USA and the prices. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sticking around
Can we fund a new battery for the smoke alarm ??
Probably wouldn’t be a bad idea
Right?
There’s a lot of knife videos. The reviewer shows a knife and goes on to describe the three paychecks it takes to acquire one, and you just can’t see “it.” There’s something about that Buck that just looks right. I do think I’d have to reacquire lock back muscle memory versus the liner lock I’ve become accustomed to.
Thanks for checking out the video
Good stuff John
Thanks, hope your doing well
Doing OK, channel growing, 380 subs as of today.
I like it but the pathetic nanny state, authoritarian laws in the UK prohibit the general carrying of a locking blade in a public place.
Wow, that is just pathetic
But thanks for checking out the video
What if you keep it in your pocket, out of public view?
@@roncochran7650 the offence is being in possession of a locking blade wherever you keep it.
UK fell a long time ago.
Sad but kinda makes sense due to all the 'something or others' using knives on people
In thr first part of your video there are two knives with yellow scales. What are they?
The smaller one is a Case Pen Knife, I show it in the 2nd half of this video here
th-cam.com/video/X-yXN3WtifA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kPlCOa7Gc7cNfa3K
The larger of the two is the Case Sod Buster Jr.

What would make you choose 440 over S35vn?
Well it’s actually 420hc now, but I like how easy it is to sharpen and how sharp it gets, s35vn will stay sharp longer but is more work to put an edge on and doesn’t seem to get that crazy sharpness.
I still think s30v goes dull just sitting there
The price
I want one in S35v
Really? When I get a Buck, it for the 440. Stuff gets so shaving sharp. But I’m sure they do good on the s35v also
Thanks for checking out the video
They switched from 440C to 420HC for their basic steel. I use a spitfire as my edc box cutting/opening knife. They do the best heat treat on 420HC but it dulls fast and sharpens easily. I just don’t want to do sharpening that often.
I have this knife and it is a nice knife.
Yes it is great for the money
Thanks for viewing
Ill pick one of these up at the factory. Visiting this week post falls idaho. Factory there. May get a couple. 😅

Buck is one of the best quality knives on the market.
Yes, one of the few affordable USA knives left
I got a custom one last July as a birthday gift to myself. I want to upgrade my Buck 112 Slim Select. Used the spitfire less than a week. It’s a nice knife and all but it’s just not for me. It’s a “collector” and not a user. Definitely not worth the cost unless you want your own color combination. But the pocket clip is useless as is, the knife sticks out of your pocket to far. Also the 112 is more comfortable in my pocket and hand. The thumb stud works better than the hole. My hands hurt all the time and the 112 is easier to use as well. The $30ish 112 is a better value IMHO. If someone wants the 722 get the regular one first to see if you like it. If you want to pick your own colors go for the “custom.”
Check out my video on slicking up the action, it really helped
@@JohnKlahr you are far more patient than me. Glad you got it fixed.
Just ordered one this evening. It's only money, right?
Right, just print more i
Looks like that pocket clip can be turned around to make it a deep carry.
Screws mess that up

Not the biggest fan of recurves. Also, you should get buy yourself a 9V battery.
Time to change the battery on your smoke detector - it’s chirping in the background if you can’t hear it, we can.
35 years around heavy equipment does leave my hearing not so great, I didn’t hear it during editing
If it only had a deep carry pocket clip.
Yes, still have to figure that out

420hc stainless not 440
I find it disappointing that someone singing the praises of a Buck knife doesn't know about Buck's year of manufacture coding. Buck uses an interesting coding to indicate what year your knife was manufactured. The knife you have was manufactured in 2023. Look it up. Other than your oversight, I largely agree with your assessment. "You can never go wrong with a Buck."
Thanks for your info and for checking out the video. But not a oversight, I’m just not into trivia, all I care about is design and function, not what year or lunar phase etc ,
The sharpening choil and plunge grind look horrible😢
I can buy upwards of (5) older CASE XX knives at a pawnshop for $50 and I’ll take them any day over a BUCK.I Love the Old CASE XX pocket knives so I can’t help myself.👍🇺🇸
We love Case XX here as well but with less than a handful of American Brands left, we got to support them or loose them
BUCK is Barely doing anything in the USA these days & I'm not a fan of their company. Either make them here or go away is my 2 cents. I don't care for any Socialist knives or the companies that support them. @@JohnKlahr
@@1OFGODSOWN Everything Buck is making in the USA they've raised the MSRP on twice. The first MSRP rise was in 2018. The second one was post Covid. Every model in 420HC is $20-$30 higher now than it used to be. Heck a 119 used to be $50 at any retail store as far back as the 90's.
@@johnj6689 I purchased a New Buck 110 Lite at a local Walmart for $13.90 out the door on Clearance. They will not be carrying them any longer from what I was told. It’s a great knife.👍
100% sure buck uses 420hc steel not 440. they're known for their heat treat on their 420hc.
Thanks for the correction and for viewing, as you get older sometimes you mix things up
Buck used to use 440 back in the 70s. Heat treated it so well folks struggled to sharpen them with Arkansas stones.
Great Knife 🗡 ! Too bad it's a backlock 😢
Great knife but its all subjective. My Ganzo FH91 was half the price as this yet is arguably a better knife
@@JamesJones-i2v is in made in USA?
The best $50 bucks is the Cold Steel 4MAX Scout ….
I will check it out

for a knife review, you sure didnt do your homework. that line beside the model number indicates the year of production. the symbol on this knife indicates it was made in 2023. each year of production has a different symbol.
Well honestly, year of production isn’t all that important to me, how the knife performs is what I’m after. Glad you viewed the video though and shared some info with us, everyone is welcome here.
M is 2023 yearmark
Thanks, it was hard to read
I will take any Chinese Spyderco or Byrd over the Buck. Buck just have bad quality control with their lockback folders. They all wobble. Some are better than others but in general they're just not precisely manufactured. I try to support US-made companies and buy US-made product but not if the company doesn't give a crap and create mediocre knives with lousy fit/finish and hide behind "made in USA".
Remember , this is a $49 knife. Trying to produce an American made product at this price point isn’t easy. Got to give them credit for trying at least
Naaaa.. its ugly
It a good looking knife
@@JohnKlahr I posted one I like yesterday in my community column ..then you'll know why I say that.. like the old stuff
Not impressed at all. I guess I like the old style much better. Knives shaped like this do nothing for me......
I was in the same mindset until last week and I've been buying knives for 35 years.
Found an old cheapo S&W beater pocket knife in the bottom of a box of crap and decided that I could use it outside in the yard/garden and not care what happened to it.
The blade happened to be shaped like a Spyderco which have always been cringe to me.
It was so easy to manipulate with that thumb hole. Kinda p'd me off that I liked it so much lol
Old dog, new knife... on the horizon...
