I just got the Orange and black $10 Ozark Trail knife last week because of all the hype it's been getting and IT IS A GREAT KNIFE for the price. I can compare it to come of my $35 knives and it does very well. One reviewer cut cardboard for 7 hrs straight on a live feed and it still sliced paper afterward.
Honestly just go all out on the bugout killer episode. Benchmade has so much competition in that size range right now and it’d be awesome to see a real comparison.
My son gave me the Civivi Mini Praxis for fathers day last year. Been impressed with it. Bought a second one that stays in my tools box at work and is used constantly for cutting hoses, opening cardboard boxes (mechanic work in general). The other is my regular EDC. I also have the Oregon trail blue aluminum stocked piece you showed. It is a pretty tough piece and is used pretty hard daily. Glad to see decent quality knives available at a reasonably price.
If you are new to sharpening the super cheap clearance Walmart knives are great for practice and then you can just give them away to people once you get a decent edge on them
I literally bought 10 of them Ozark trail 7.5's, D-2 is an underrated steel! it's up there with magnacut with edge retention and toughness! and is actually tougher than magnacut!! Ask me how I know I am a blade smith lol... in my study's I would say this cheap 10.00 knife up against the bugout will win in my eyes! If the heat treating is proper the D-2 will beat out the S35VN!!
@@Kodiak_Edgeyou are seriously misinformed, d2 has decent edge retention but it is brittle compared to other steels, magnacut when hrc at 62+ is tougher than Cruwear, has better edge retention than many other super steels it’s not like a k390 or maxamette, and its nearly stainless on the level of lc200n, or h1/h2, not the same but close. D2 has never been a tough steel, it’s one of the best edge retention’s of the very budget steels.
25:40 not to mention, lots of regular people buy their knives at Walmart, now we'll see less people with trash in their pockets and more better stuff like civivi
As long as these companies can maintain their QC, I think this will be a great thing for this new generation getting into EDC. For the 18 year old kid working a minimum wage job, the glass counter at Walmart might be the only glimpse into this space that he sees. I always say my first ‘big boy’ knife was a Kershaw Blur that I got from a North Carolina Walmart.
My first knife was a Kershaw Hotwire (that I still own) from my local Walmart in Michigan where I live. Then I fell into the trap of owning several Kershaws and quite a few of the Ozark Trail knives you see all over knife lover pages and such including the orange Bugout clone.
Mine was a Kershaw Link that the worker sold me for $20. It was a $60 knife and he confused it with another, but I had no clue about what was what until afterwards. I’ve owned two of them and lost them both. 🤦♂️
I bought one a little while back and loved it. Oldest son loved it even more and badgered me until I gave it to him for his birthday. I missed it enough that I ordered another one yesterday.
If they knew what they were missing and could afford it, they probably wouldn't 😂. Also Swiss Tech action is great and I hope this makes companies like Benchmade lower their prices a bit too.
That’s because they are knife people, same as gun people. When it’s a hobby/passion you spend more money for better. Just because 95% of dudes carry a cheap knife doesn’t mean spending more isn’t better
@@QuetzalConcreteco to each their own. I’m a hard user, not a collector. My Benchmade Adamas is a screwdriver, pry tool, cuts wire, whatever I need. Rather have something I can trust than a cheap knife I don’t care about
I have to say the best value on the table is definitely that 7 1/2 inch Ozark trail. I picked one up and took it camping for several days. And damn! Aside from the plastic scales, this is a great little knife. And honestly, the scales are very comfortable. You should really test it out before you pass any judgment
Menards has stepped into the game as well. They have a house brand called Guidesman that sales some knives that don't suck for the price. I picked up the "Covert" a neck knife for $10 that was sharper out of the box then most knives I have purchased. I had very low hopes but have been pleasantly surprised. I find myself wearing it over a lot of my more expensive knives.
I LITERALLY bought that $9.97 D2 Carbon Steel pocket knife today. Got the last one in stock within a 100 mile radius. Test that bad boy. I REALLY want it to be a good addition to my EDC and backpacking kit.
Same. I just walked in the door with mine last on the shelf. It was hanging at the very bottom and back of the display behind glass i thought they were out.
Couple things here: 1) yes compare bugout 2) i would like to try the haltbar, but for $15 less I would probly pick the one you dud after for $35. 3) I own gerber, buck and kershaw I bought at walmart in the early 90's. Still use them today. I dont think I have ever sharpened my gerber w/guthook. Ive skinned a handful of deer believe it or not with the Leek. 4) times are different for me today and I have been able to purchase more expensive knives, that I dont think are really any better than what I mentioned above. I do have a bugout that I bought with a gift cert from work. Its really sweet, but I wouldnt pay $171 for it, out of my pocket. Keep up the great content. I really found value in two of the BPS knives, the Adventurer and a smaller skinner type.
Civivi is definitely the best budget brand out there and it's great that they can potentially become the standard for mainstream budget knives in stores
I got the swisstech Wardig on a whim getting my honda oddesy serviced,(its 20 years old and I'm a single dude lol) I looked up the knife quick on TH-cam and bought it, loved it immediately, I lost it and went back to my coldsteel tilite, but bought another one promptly, love the rough micarda handel, and that red accent with it, I absolutely love it, its my EDC blade now.

I have the mini praxis, wurdig, and the new orange handled Ozark Trail knife, and the Ozark Trail is my favorite, it’s not even close. It’s amazing for only $10. I also have a Pyrite Light and it’s a tie between it and the Ozark Trail.
The Civivi Qubit is by far my favorite pick out of the ones you listed, a D2 button lock from a reputable company with good QC, with a compact but very useable blade for 99% of your daily EDC tasks. It's hard to beat that for what it is.
Just made a discovery on the ozark bugout copy. I have a Schrade XTimer red aluminum liner lock knife.(need to put all that title in to get to the right knife) the blade profiles are virtually identical. I wouldn’t be surprised if the factory that made Schrade knives in china, before Schrade went under, is now making ozark knives from the Schrade surplus. I kinda want to take the paint off the Ozark now and see if the blade is later etched ‘XTimer’ on the blade.
The green plastic OT tanto is actually my second favorite utility knife. Snaps open easily and smootly. And gets dang sharp easily. Locks in place very snappily. And no loose clip here. And ive used it for weeks now. Just great for only 7.97. Fact is I gave away all my regular folding knives. Flip tech has made me one handed open only. Btw the orange OT knife is fun also.
I bought the swiss tech leicht from Walmart, not a bad little fixed blade. I use it everyday for ranch work, works great if you rotate the clip for an appendix carry scout carry
I don't travel as much as I used to compared to pre-covid era, but I would have loved to see that D2 knife at Walmart back then. Because I traveled so often, I learned to pack everything on my carry-on. Only problem with that was that I couldn't bring my knife with me. But buying an okay knife for $10 at my destination and getting rid of it on the way back would have been a game changer.
Tip down carry is sometimes safer, I’ve had folders creak open in my pocket while cutting wood and I sliced my hand open on it while putting my ear pro away. Tip down is preferred for some.
I don’t know if it’s at all Walmarts but the Buck Small Selkirk Folder has become one of the best budget knives I’ve found, contoured micarta with steel bolster, amazing action and bucks 420 is well known, the other knife was the Gerber Scout folder, micarta scales, axis lock, and very strong build quality, the only issue is the steel, 440a I think, it’s serviceable bit I’d pay more for 14c or better.
Definitely do a bugout killer comparison! Ozark trail, deka, irridium, maybe even lander 2 vs bugout. I just ordered an ozark trail to my parents house so when i fly to visit them I always have a knife available.
I was at my Walmart today looking at knives and I was looking at the civivi qubit button lock knife and I can't believe how buttery smooth opening and closing it was..I don't have any civivi knives, but man I like that button lock. I have a knife with a axis lock and the button lock on the qubit is easier to open and close. Might have to look into civivi.
I picked up the “bugout killer” for about $8 and it’s great. Cheap? Yep. But it’s a knife that stays mostly in the car when I forget to wear mine. Honestly, from someone who likes benchmade, it feels 80% as good for 5% if the cost. It’s not great, but it opens Amazon packages and it’ll air someone out pretty quick in a pinch.
Those are definitely the Civivi blades avaliable in store but if you check Walmart online it looks like the whole Civivi catalog is available to order.
I have a bugout and bought the bugout clone today. I am going to do my own test since I mostly carry the bugout daily and will be able to really compare. Funny side note: When I was buying my knife today at WalMart (same one as you did), the cashier was telling me about some guys that bought about one of every knife in the case. I started laughing to myself when I saw your video. Good video and info.
I can tell you how this ends already I did it a few years ago. The bugout is now a regret purchase. My stupid abused bugout clone stays in my pocket. Seriously probably should not have used it to cut asphalt shingles but other than a few scratches it held up.
I was literally at Walmart today and saw one of the models civivi had to offer there. So when I got home I was just looking at the other models I could get from Wally World. Stoked. With that in mind, at time I travel with a carry on bag only on the plane so of course no sharp object to be carried there. I can stop at a Walmart and pick up a cheap edc if I’m staying for longer than a day. I’ve picked up a ozark trail a time or two and a quickly sharpener and I’m good for the rest of the time. I usually do checked bags going home. Nice video for those on a budget
My vote for best knife in your video would be the outdoor edge sx5. Those replaceable blades are a godsend in the field. I am constantly cutting 550, boxes, 100mph tape, sometimes even nylon webbing and the sx5 is cheap and versatile. It hasn't let me down.
I have been thinking about getting that aluminum swisstech flipper for a while. Your praise of it really solidified my decision to go ahead and get it.
G-10 on a Walmart knife, how cool, I remember when an Al Mar knife would have G10 and it was the sheot. granted 14 years ago!. Oh and Cold steel went to a Walmart brand and I think SOG did the same thing, which I don't fault them a bit. I met L.Thompson at a L A gun show at the Pomona fair grounds , this is way back when he only had two boxes of knives, a push dagger and another small knife. That was it, whole Cold steel line at the time. He was extremely affable and into connecting with a growing customer base, I'm very happy for him!!!!
I just picked up that Swiss Tech Doplet because I saw it in someone else's video. Drove an hour for it and saw the civivis and thought that was cool. I like the look of the bigger fixed blade, and that little one that kinda looks like an esse izula. I may have to check those out but I've never been a fixed blade guy.
Some people have already said it, but seeing that Ozark knife up against the Bugout is necessary. I also think seeing that Swiss-Tech Helfen against a Tinker would be fairly rad as well.
Bugout battle for sure. How about a fixed blade test or comparison. Something that is similar. I'm glad you did this. Didn't know Walmart upgraded their knife selection.
By far hands down the civivi cubit is my pick. Bought one out of curiosity went an bought another a week later. Will absolutely get hair whittling sharp and holds the edge well. For the money can’t be beat in my opinion. And it’s actually 14c28n steel
9:39 Its a really neat concept for say, hunting knife, for large pelt... Because you can easily swap in fresh sharp blades, And then resharpen the dull ones for later. But in the field with fading light, being able to swap blades, rather than swap knives. Is great.
Wurdig is all around a great knife. I’ve beaten it up quite a bit now since January and no problems at all, does become a bit more dull but sharpen it 🤷🏽♂️
I love the outdoor edge edc fixed blades, the Le Duck, and the Le Hawk I think it’s called but one is drop point and one is a hawk bill, great sheaths and really well designed handles.
The orange OT folder with D2 for $10 has to be the best deal.. Also, the mini praxis is amazing!! Please test the OT vs. the Bugout! Thank you for your content! I've watched for years!! Love it!
I love my Civivi Qubit. Got it at blade show last year. Nice to see it at Walmart. I'm excited for what other special offerings Walmart will have in the future 😁
I wish I had options like these when I was 15 years old doing lawncare and working at a hardware store; any of those Ozark trail knives is probably better than the gas station "multitool" I used 😂 and a lot better than having nothing at all.
Here are my criteria for folding knives. 1. Tip up 2. Deep carry pocket clip 3. Back flip opener (arthritis in my thumbs prevents any thumb openers) 4. Stiletto or stabby shaped blade. 5. Price under $40, although $45 would be considered if it was really beautiful 6. No frilly Damascus goop Swiss Tech Gerundet looks good, but the blade could be pointier. Swiss Tech Balken looks good if it ever goes on sale. Civivi Mini Praxis looks good. Civivi Praxis looks good, if I want to splurge Civivi Elementum is good if it goes on sale.
Honestly, I like the Swiss Tech Doppelt the best of all the knives here. To me, its traditional slipjoint pattern with a modern look could pass for a gentleman's knife. Cool! And very useful.
I have that sheep's foot $10 knife. Bought it to see if I'd like the style. I found I don't really like the style, but the blade sharpens with a few swipes on the crock sticks & it is tomato slicing sharp & holds the edge pretty well. Maybe Chinese 420j2-ish. A little heavy for a short blade for me. For $10, not bad.
I like to handle a knife before I buy it. Now that better quality/affordable knives are at Walmart, I can just pop in take a look. I bought the Haltsbar (Swiss tech) last week and a Civivi Qubit today. I have higher priced knives of course but it’s good to have knives that I wouldn’t get sick over losing one.
The green Swiss tech fixed blade with included ferro rod is a must. Killer deal for any oudoorsman/camping fanatic and a great option for a bug out knife. Great review sir. I'm new to you channel but you have a new subscriber after this one. Cheers
For the longest time at my local Walmart the only knife I would think of buying were the buck 119s or similar. I almost crapped when I saw they had 2 different spidercos in the case! They must not have sold well, cuz I think they only carried them for about a year. Recently they have a much better low/mid range selection of knives.
This is huge for the EDC world. I hoping this forces companies like Gerber, Buck, Kershaw, and CRKT to up their game on the budget side of things as well. Some of their models are fine but they could be so much better. I'd say my favorites of the knives you picked up were the swiss army style knife and Ozark Train Cross Bar lock knife in terms of new stuff but I own and love the Civivi Mini Praxis in OD and black. The mini (or full size) Praxis is one of the best budget knives of all time.
Yea, Bugout Challenge. Do It! I searched (online) six (6) of the closest WM's within a 50 mi. radius, only one(1) had the Ozark Trail D2 folder. Had three(3) on hand, after checkout they had zero(0). Bought all three. There will be a couple Stocking Stuffer's at Christmas this year😊😊😊

Would love to see that Haltbar tested in some bushcrafty tasks
2:58 "tip down carry" to what are you referring? folders? fixed? sheathed? on the belt? the neck? what are you talking about ?
I would love to see you test the Deka, the bugout, and the OT. I'd also throw the Vosteed Mini Psyop into the competition.
I bought that first blue $7 Ozark while traveling (after I left an airport) and found it pretty satisfactory during my travels.
Put that Walmart China D2 up against the Bugout!
By far hands down the civivi cubit is my pick. Bought one out of curiosity went an bought another a week later. Will absolutely get hair whittling sharp and holds the edge well. For the money can’t be beat in my opinion. And it’s actually 14c28n steel
Ive carried a Wurdig for the past few months and i love it. Buddy of mine has had one for years. The clip is a little bendy but man i love it
Yes, I want to see that $10 knife beat the bugout.
Benchmade overcharges for their knives.
It's a good $10 knife in fact, it's a great $10 knife but don't think for a second that it's anything more than a $10 knife.
I’ve been using Swiss tech for years and I will always love it
When it comes to knives, I'm all about the cheap. Perfect review/roundup. Thanks!👍

Its a really neat concept for say, hunting knife, for large pelt...
Because you can easily swap in fresh sharp blades,
And then resharpen the dull ones for later.
But in the field with fading light, being able to swap blades, rather than swap knives.
Is great.
Thanks for making this video. I always wondered about Walmart knives.
VG-10 is awesome when Spyderco does it so if Walmart got it right then that camp knife should be rad too
At the 1:50 mark, that $3.50 clearanced knife was kinda cool. It has an old school look.
Wurdig is all around a great knife. I’ve beaten it up quite a bit now since January and no problems at all, does become a bit more dull but sharpen it 🤷🏽♂️
You have me very interested in that Gerundet. Nice looking edc knife, and that fixed blade with the ferro rod.. I appreciate you making this video.
Went to Walmart today, also saw a mora companion and a sog power pint. Love having great budget offerings close at hand.
Tip down carry is good for the XL knives where you'd have to shift your grip between pulling them out and opening them otherwise
I love the outdoor edge edc fixed blades, the Le Duck, and the Le Hawk I think it’s called but one is drop point and one is a hawk bill, great sheaths and really well designed handles.
Great video! A lesson in marketing! I love Civivi knives. Thumbs up for them for jumping into the race of "opportunity" knives!
Man, I bought a $60 civi vi element love the look of it. I couldn’t even cut paper with it when I got it out of the box. That really upset me.
I’ve been buying them slowly. The Swiss Tech Gerundet is the best so far. Phenomenal knife for $30.
yeah do that 3 way competition. I'd watch. Heck, I'll even give it a thumbs up!
1. Tip up
2. Deep carry pocket clip
3. Back flip opener (arthritis in my thumbs prevents any thumb openers)
4. Stiletto or stabby shaped blade.
5. Price under $40, although $45 would be considered if it was really beautiful
6. No frilly Damascus goop
Swiss Tech Gerundet looks good, but the blade could be pointier.
Swiss Tech Balken looks good if it ever goes on sale.
Civivi Mini Praxis looks good.
Civivi Praxis looks good, if I want to splurge
Civivi Elementum is good if it goes on sale.
That all metal Buck knife looks pretty sweet
Honestly, I like the Swiss Tech Doppelt the best of all the knives here. To me, its traditional slipjoint pattern with a modern look could pass for a gentleman's knife. Cool! And very useful.
Dude you're lucky to have that selection. Mine is always sold out. From the $7 Ozark trail to the $75-$100 sog/civivi ect.
🤔 i like that swiss tech barlow.
I picked up a fixed blade tanto from Walmart, pretty sweet for $8
The green Swiss tech fixed blade with included ferro rod is a must. Killer deal for any oudoorsman/camping fanatic and a great option for a bug out knife. Great review sir. I'm new to you channel but you have a new subscriber after this one. Cheers
Definitely a Bugout battle! I’m also curious how the replaceable blades knife performs.
For the longest time at my local Walmart the only knife I would think of buying were the buck 119s or similar. I almost crapped when I saw they had 2 different spidercos in the case! They must not have sold well, cuz I think they only carried them for about a year. Recently they have a much better low/mid range selection of knives.
Nice outlook Taylor, I dig your insite on the budget SPACE.
I’ve had the green Swiss tech folder for awhile. Love it
Yea, Bugout Challenge.
