Honestly just go all out on the bugout killer episode. Benchmade has so much competition in that size range right now and it’d be awesome to see a real comparison.
I literally bought 10 of them Ozark trail 7.5's, D-2 is an underrated steel! it's up there with magnacut with edge retention and toughness! and is actually tougher than magnacut!! Ask me how I know I am a blade smith lol... in my study's I would say this cheap 10.00 knife up against the bugout will win in my eyes! If the heat treating is proper the D-2 will beat out the S35VN!!
I just got the Orange and black $10 Ozark Trail knife last week because of all the hype it's been getting and IT IS A GREAT KNIFE for the price. I can compare it to come of my $35 knives and it does very well. One reviewer cut cardboard for 7 hrs straight on a live feed and it still sliced paper afterward.
Swiss Tech names Haltbar = durable Stählern = made of steel Leicht = lightweight Praktisch = handy, practical Helfen = to help Balken = beam (wood), bar … not Balkan (which would be the Balkan region) Doppelt = double Gerundet = rounded Würdig = worthy
If you are new to sharpening the super cheap clearance Walmart knives are great for practice and then you can just give them away to people once you get a decent edge on them
As long as these companies can maintain their QC, I think this will be a great thing for this new generation getting into EDC. For the 18 year old kid working a minimum wage job, the glass counter at Walmart might be the only glimpse into this space that he sees. I always say my first ‘big boy’ knife was a Kershaw Blur that I got from a North Carolina Walmart.
My first knife was a Kershaw Hotwire (that I still own) from my local Walmart in Michigan where I live. Then I fell into the trap of owning several Kershaws and quite a few of the Ozark Trail knives you see all over knife lover pages and such including the orange Bugout clone.
25:40 not to mention, lots of regular people buy their knives at Walmart, now we'll see less people with trash in their pockets and more better stuff like civivi
I bought one a little while back and loved it. Oldest son loved it even more and badgered me until I gave it to him for his birthday. I missed it enough that I ordered another one yesterday.
I have to say the best value on the table is definitely that 7 1/2 inch Ozark trail. I picked one up and took it camping for several days. And damn! Aside from the plastic scales, this is a great little knife. And honestly, the scales are very comfortable. You should really test it out before you pass any judgment
Couple things here: 1) yes compare bugout 2) i would like to try the haltbar, but for $15 less I would probly pick the one you dud after for $35. 3) I own gerber, buck and kershaw I bought at walmart in the early 90's. Still use them today. I dont think I have ever sharpened my gerber w/guthook. Ive skinned a handful of deer believe it or not with the Leek. 4) times are different for me today and I have been able to purchase more expensive knives, that I dont think are really any better than what I mentioned above. I do have a bugout that I bought with a gift cert from work. Its really sweet, but I wouldnt pay $171 for it, out of my pocket. Keep up the great content. I really found value in two of the BPS knives, the Adventurer and a smaller skinner type.
I have a bugout and bought the bugout clone today. I am going to do my own test since I mostly carry the bugout daily and will be able to really compare. Funny side note: When I was buying my knife today at WalMart (same one as you did), the cashier was telling me about some guys that bought about one of every knife in the case. I started laughing to myself when I saw your video. Good video and info.
I can tell you how this ends already I did it a few years ago. The bugout is now a regret purchase. My stupid abused bugout clone stays in my pocket. Seriously probably should not have used it to cut asphalt shingles but other than a few scratches it held up.
I LITERALLY bought that $9.97 D2 Carbon Steel pocket knife today. Got the last one in stock within a 100 mile radius. Test that bad boy. I REALLY want it to be a good addition to my EDC and backpacking kit.
Same. I just walked in the door with mine last on the shelf. It was hanging at the very bottom and back of the display behind glass i thought they were out.
I hate too agree but you are correct. I'm less concerned about edge retention with a good stone it takes under a minute too fix the edge so no big deal. I bought the original Ozark bigout clone 2 years ago I have seriously beat the piss out of it. Even shingled a full roof and cut the shingles with it instead of a utility knife. And for a 5 dollar knife it seriously can't be beat with a slight adjustment too the action it was smoother than my actual bugout(regret paying what I did for this stupid thing.)
I don't travel as much as I used to compared to pre-covid era, but I would have loved to see that D2 knife at Walmart back then. Because I traveled so often, I learned to pack everything on my carry-on. Only problem with that was that I couldn't bring my knife with me. But buying an okay knife for $10 at my destination and getting rid of it on the way back would have been a game changer.
Menards has stepped into the game as well. They have a house brand called Guidesman that sales some knives that don't suck for the price. I picked up the "Covert" a neck knife for $10 that was sharper out of the box then most knives I have purchased. I had very low hopes but have been pleasantly surprised. I find myself wearing it over a lot of my more expensive knives.
Wurdig is all around a great knife. I’ve beaten it up quite a bit now since January and no problems at all, does become a bit more dull but sharpen it 🤷🏽♂️
I was at my Walmart today looking at knives and I was looking at the civivi qubit button lock knife and I can't believe how buttery smooth opening and closing it was..I don't have any civivi knives, but man I like that button lock. I have a knife with a axis lock and the button lock on the qubit is easier to open and close. Might have to look into civivi.
Those are definitely the Civivi blades avaliable in store but if you check Walmart online it looks like the whole Civivi catalog is available to order.
Civivi is definitely the best budget brand out there and it's great that they can potentially become the standard for mainstream budget knives in stores
Bugout battle for sure. How about a fixed blade test or comparison. Something that is similar. I'm glad you did this. Didn't know Walmart upgraded their knife selection.
Haltbar - durable Stählern - steely Leicht - light (as in light weight) Praktisch -practical Helfen - to help Balken - beam (as in support beam) Doppelt - double Gerundet - rounded Würdig - worthy Greetings from across the pond
Definitely do a bugout killer comparison! Ozark trail, deka, irridium, maybe even lander 2 vs bugout. I just ordered an ozark trail to my parents house so when i fly to visit them I always have a knife available.
I have the mini praxis, wurdig, and the new orange handled Ozark Trail knife, and the Ozark Trail is my favorite, it’s not even close. It’s amazing for only $10. I also have a Pyrite Light and it’s a tie between it and the Ozark Trail.
The Civivi Qubit is by far my favorite pick out of the ones you listed, a D2 button lock from a reputable company with good QC, with a compact but very useable blade for 99% of your daily EDC tasks. It's hard to beat that for what it is.
Some people have already said it, but seeing that Ozark knife up against the Bugout is necessary. I also think seeing that Swiss-Tech Helfen against a Tinker would be fairly rad as well.
I love my Civivi Qubit. Got it at blade show last year. Nice to see it at Walmart. I'm excited for what other special offerings Walmart will have in the future 😁
Just made a discovery on the ozark bugout copy. I have a Schrade XTimer red aluminum liner lock knife.(need to put all that title in to get to the right knife) the blade profiles are virtually identical. I wouldn’t be surprised if the factory that made Schrade knives in china, before Schrade went under, is now making ozark knives from the Schrade surplus. I kinda want to take the paint off the Ozark now and see if the blade is later etched ‘XTimer’ on the blade.
I have that 3.50 knife. I took those awful plastic scales off and made some new ones out of chestnut. Looks good now and I use it everyday opening boxes at work.
The green Swiss tech fixed blade with included ferro rod is a must. Killer deal for any oudoorsman/camping fanatic and a great option for a bug out knife. Great review sir. I'm new to you channel but you have a new subscriber after this one. Cheers
I just picked up that Swiss Tech Doplet because I saw it in someone else's video. Drove an hour for it and saw the civivis and thought that was cool. I like the look of the bigger fixed blade, and that little one that kinda looks like an esse izula. I may have to check those out but I've never been a fixed blade guy.
I'd never spend over $40 bucks for a regular knife. Special kitchen knife, sure but not a pocket or camping knife. If it does general cutting like opening boxes and cutting string, it's a good knife or good enough at least.
Used to have an elementum that somehow got lost during my move and even though it was $50 bucks I was still a bit upset because I was confident in it as a tool to have with me everyday.
Yea, Bugout Challenge. Do It! I searched (online) six (6) of the closest WM's within a 50 mi. radius, only one(1) had the Ozark Trail D2 folder. Had three(3) on hand, after checkout they had zero(0). Bought all three. There will be a couple Stocking Stuffer's at Christmas this year😊😊😊
Please do the bugout killer vid, also please do more of the torture test videos like you did awhile ago. Id love to see some "hard use" videos showing how far you can go with different knive steels and handles and stuff. Cutting bags or rocks, cutting in durt, cleaning Pbc, cutting heat shrink off metal, dropping from ladder height shit like that, id prefer if it was a series and you could have work sharp feature in in the middle with a hone and strip then at the end with a full resharpening. But even if it's just a big video with a bunch of knives doing the same stuff I'd love to see something like that
The orange OT folder with D2 for $10 has to be the best deal.. Also, the mini praxis is amazing!! Please test the OT vs. the Bugout! Thank you for your content! I've watched for years!! Love it!
I was literally at Walmart today and saw one of the models civivi had to offer there. So when I got home I was just looking at the other models I could get from Wally World. Stoked. With that in mind, at time I travel with a carry on bag only on the plane so of course no sharp object to be carried there. I can stop at a Walmart and pick up a cheap edc if I’m staying for longer than a day. I’ve picked up a ozark trail a time or two and a quickly sharpener and I’m good for the rest of the time. I usually do checked bags going home. Nice video for those on a budget
I wish I had options like these when I was 15 years old doing lawncare and working at a hardware store; any of those Ozark trail knives is probably better than the gas station "multitool" I used 😂 and a lot better than having nothing at all.
I got one of the last Ozark trail orange knives at my local store. It's surprisingly good and sharp out of the package. I would buy a second one if they come back in stock. The only downside is the crossbar lock edges aren't super smooth.
If you just lightly tighten the screw on that last knife with the axis lock and orange frn handles it will stop that blade play without interference with the action. I've seen that knife literally torture tested and surprisingly it held up longer then it should have for $10. But the great thing about that new axis lock orange handle knife is if you travel and can't take a knife on the Plain you can go too any walmart and grab this and have a knife for the time you're visiting and it's only $10. My experience over 43 year's with Walmart knives was mostly Buck being the brand they all had around me.
G-10 on a Walmart knife, how cool, I remember when an Al Mar knife would have G10 and it was the sheot. granted 14 years ago!. Oh and Cold steel went to a Walmart brand and I think SOG did the same thing, which I don't fault them a bit. I met L.Thompson at a L A gun show at the Pomona fair grounds , this is way back when he only had two boxes of knives, a push dagger and another small knife. That was it, whole Cold steel line at the time. He was extremely affable and into connecting with a growing customer base, I'm very happy for him!!!!
i like to see these for travel, ive had to travel knifeless before and pick something up when i landed and usually just end up with a buck bantam that i pass off later, it would be nice to see more consistent stock but theres a walmart everywhere
If they knew what they were missing and could afford it, they probably wouldn't 😂. Also Swiss Tech action is great and I hope this makes companies like Benchmade lower their prices a bit too.
The bugout battle is an absolute must.
you've got it
@@BestDamnEDC 100%

Knifecenter has a decent vid on Bugout alternatives
agreed
Bro, that Orange $9.97 Ozark trail has better movement than half my Benchmades. Seriously a great deal and and not scared to lose it
I have that orange Ozark Trail knife and can confirm its a diamond in the rough so much fun lol
Grr can’t find one.
They're decent for the money definitely
Honestly just go all out on the bugout killer episode. Benchmade has so much competition in that size range right now and it’d be awesome to see a real comparison.
The dropout so I heard
Put it up against the bugout!!!
Will do!
Yes
Knivesiguess did cut test for 7 hrs it been done
I literally bought 10 of them Ozark trail 7.5's, D-2 is an underrated steel! it's up there with magnacut with edge retention and toughness! and is actually tougher than magnacut!! Let's see the Ozark Trail against the Bugout or any knife in the same catagory
Swiss Tech names
Haltbar = durable
Stählern = made of steel
Leicht = lightweight
Praktisch = handy, practical
Helfen = to help
Balken = beam (wood), bar … not Balkan (which would be the Balkan region)
Doppelt = double

Cool, thanks. Good names!

yup got a snap-on kershaw blur from my uncle when i was 13 or so that still sits on my desk to me its my first ever 'real' knife
I really like the Blur...Great ergos!!
25:40 not to mention, lots of regular people buy their knives at Walmart, now we'll see less people with trash in their pockets and more better stuff like civivi
100% do the bugout killer episode!! Maybe throw an Iridium in or something
Not a bad idea
Love this idea!
Third the idea!
Ahhhh. I hate my (topo) iridium
The iridium is fireee
The Ozark Trail Dropout ran 7+ hours cutting cardboard on Kinves, I guess?'s channel. That's real D2.
dayum.
Benchmade copied this design for their bugout
The green micarta fixed blade looks really cool honestly. SwissTech has some pretty impressive stuff apparently
Agreed, I was surprised
I’ve used it for about 5 months now at work been great
I bought one a little while back and loved it. Oldest son loved it even more and badgered me until I gave it to him for his birthday. I missed it enough that I ordered another one yesterday.
2:59 tip down carry is obviously safer. Gravity keeps your knife closed in the tip down position and trys to open it if the tips up.
I have to say the best value on the table is definitely that 7 1/2 inch Ozark trail. I picked one up and took it camping for several days. And damn! Aside from the plastic scales, this is a great little knife. And honestly, the scales are very comfortable. You should really test it out before you pass any judgment
Bugout killer episode please! I would like to see a mini bugout included
Couple things here:
1) yes compare bugout
2) i would like to try the haltbar, but for $15 less I would probly pick the one you dud after for $35.

90s knives, represent.
I have a bugout and bought the bugout clone today. I am going to do my own test since I mostly carry the bugout daily and will be able to really compare. Same. I just walked in the door with mine last on the shelf. It was hanging at the very bottom and back of the display behind glass i thought they were out.
Swiss Tech Haltbar is my best choice. Excellent design and construction at a price point well below its overall value.
You say, "We just spent $750 at Walmart. I hear, " I just bought five days worth of groceries for two people in this crappy economy"😂
Haha, ya ain't wrong.
That's how you run a business. Investment in content. Also! Walmart does returns.

At the 1:50 mark, that $3.50 clearanced knife was kinda cool. It has an old school look.

The Swiss Tech Gerundent is surprisingly good for the price point. The action is amazing. I was very surprised by it.
Lots of stuff to consider looking into. The Swiss Tech Leicht is the one I'd definitely pick up.
Agreed, I was quite impressed with some of these.
Yes, I want to see that $10 knife beat the bugout.
Benchmade overcharges for their knives.
It's a good $10 knife in fact, it's a great $10 knife but don't think for a second that it's anything more than a $10 knife.
Menards has stepped into the game as well. They have a house brand called Guidesman that sales some knives that don't suck for the price. I picked up the "Covert" a neck knife for $10 that was sharper out of the box then most knives I have purchased. I had very low hopes but have been pleasantly surprised. Ozark Trail should just release a knife called the Budgout! 🤣
the SwissTech Wurdig is my favorite, but Id probably pick up the Outdoor Edge SX3 if I was looking at all of these on the shelf at Walmart.
Swiss Tech Leicht looks sweet. Reminds me of the Izula, but with a more modern design. I love small fixed blades for EDC.
I think I'm going to buy that micarta swiss tech today. I've wanted to try it forever and have never had a micarta handle knife.
The Micarta Swiss tech folder is outstanding!
That $10 silver 7 inch Ozark Trail with the flipper is my work knife. 2 years and no problems. Not much play and haven't had to sharpen it
About every small family hardware store has a good knife selection
Like to see the Bugout/Deka competition-
VG-10 is awesome when Spyderco does it so if Walmart got it right then that camp knife should be rad too
That all metal Buck knife looks pretty sweet
Haltbar - durable
Stählern - steely

Praktisch -practical
Helfen - to help
Balken - beam (as in support beam)
Doppelt - double
Gerundet - rounded

Definitely do a bugout killer comparison! Ozark trail, deka, irridium, maybe even lander 2 vs bugout. I just ordered an ozark trail to my parents house so when i fly to visit them I always have a knife available.
🤔 i like that swiss tech barlow.
I picked up a fixed blade tanto from Walmart, pretty sweet for $8
yeah do that 3 way competition. I'd watch. Heck, I'll even give it a thumbs up!
I have the mini praxis, wurdig, and the new orange handled Ozark Trail knife, and the Ozark Trail is my favorite, it’s not even close. It’s amazing for only $10. I also have a Pyrite Light and it’s a tie between it and the Ozark Trail.
That Walmart found out that you live nearby and upped their game for the next Walmart EDC video is what happened.
Put that orange one up against a bugout!
YES, do the bugout/ drop bear/ walmart comparison
The Civivi Qubit is by far my favorite pick out of the ones you listed, a D2 button lock from a reputable company with good QC, with a compact but very useable blade for 99% of your daily EDC tasks. It's hard to beat that for what it is.

I got one of the last Ozark trail orange knives at my local store. It's surprisingly good and sharp out of the package. I would buy a second one if they come back in stock. The only downside is the crossbar lock edges aren't super smooth.
Would love to see that Haltbar tested in some bushcrafty tasks
If you just lightly tighten the screw on that last knife with the axis lock and orange frn handles it will stop that blade play without interference with the action. I've seen that knife literally torture tested and surprisingly it held up longer then it should have for $10. But the great thing about that new axis lock orange handle knife is if you travel and can't take a knife on the Plain you can go too any walmart and grab this and have a knife for the time you're visiting and it's only $10. My experience over 43 year's with Walmart knives was mostly Buck being the brand they all had around me.
I work at Walmart and have been so hype about civivi knives and the iridium also
The black coating on the Barlow is probably TiN (titanium nitride). It is extremely common.
Thank you for doing this 💪🏻
I wanna see the swiss tech haltbar in some bushcraft test. Blade tip retention test and hammer test wood splitting

That was it, whole Cold steel line at the time. He was extremely affable and into connecting with a growing customer base, I'm very happy for him!!!!
I bought that first blue $7 Ozark while traveling (after I left an airport) and found it pretty satisfactory during my travels.
The best way to get brands to lower their price is to not buy their overpriced products ...
Tip down carry may not be safer but it's still better
Good, Thx. Yeah, do the Bugout competitor comparisons
it isn't just knives. Walmart's gen 3 wireless earbuds, and open ear earphones are also a step above what they used to carry.
i like to see these for travel, ive had to travel knifeless before and pick something up when i landed and usually just end up with a buck bantam that i pass off later, it would be nice to see more consistent stock but theres a walmart everywhere
Man, sometimes knife TH-camrs are so out of touch. Approx 95% of dudes have a Walmart/gas station knife in their pocket, and they use it
If they knew what they were missing and could afford it, they probably wouldn't 😂. Also Swiss Tech action is great and I hope this makes companies like Benchmade lower their prices a bit too.
I got the orange BM killer. I cut through a few heavy duty boxes with ease. Action is comparable for price. You need to put it up against the bugout.
Put the bug out versus the fug out!
Fake out. Bug fout. We'll find a better name for the fake bug out later.
They’re calling it the Dropout on other channels
