  • I will show you if 33s or 35s will fit on a stock FJ80 Toyota Land Cruiser, I will see which tire is the best budget option and how much overall ground clearance you gain by just upgrading tires.

    Going to 33s on any truck is probably the most cost effective mod you can do on any truck. Cost is minimal. Gas mileage drop is minimal. Work is minimal. Performance goes way up. Appearance is way better. Hell, even your ride quality will improve.

    Nice one. It looks soooo much better. I have a 1996 FJZ80 Series Landcruiser GXL and I have those same wheels, which in Australia from 1994/1995 onwards came standard on the Sahara & VX models (also on some limited edition versions) and optional on the GXL. I also noticed yours has drum brakes at the rear, I didn't realise in some markets they had drums. In Australia, all 80 Series sold here came with disc all round. I'm running BFG K02s which are 33" tyres, and have no issues with them.

    What up , Thanks for sharing this video . I have a question I am asking everyone that has done it. How are the 33's on the 40th anniversary land cruiser wheels? R16 8jj? How do the ride on the road on a long distance ? I am sure they are amazing off road. Have you done much sand driving on low tyre pressures ? I hope your feed back can help me decide what to put on my 40th anniversary land cruiser wheels. Thanks

Trying to figure out the best way to upgrade to 33s and put a 2.5" lift. Also, do you suggest 33s with the lift or 35s? Thanks.

      Im running a dobinsons 2-2.5 with 33s on stock wheels. I could squeeze 35s but im almost positive it’ll rub with the backspacing on the stock wheels. I cant remember the exact offset for the best fit on 35s but its on several of the threads on ih8mud. Most of the guys recommend regearing your axels for 35s as well, as they add so much weight from the stock 31s.

    I find the vehicle drives much better with 33's than the std size 31's, the auto responds better in my experience, ride quality feels better and with regards to economy I have found it to be better with 33's
    looks wise they suit the car so much better too

    Your fuel economy won't be as good driving around town but it should improve on the highway due to the larger tyres giving you a higher gearing.
    However, any improvement will be cancelled due to them being mud tyres.
    I have a 70 series that had 29" tyres, I put "33 on and it transformed the vehicle. Jut KO2s though.

    • @AiDOS__
      @AiDOS__ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's not how that works, fuel consumption isn't solely based on engine rpm. It's based on load at that rpm. If the engine is doing 3000rpm with 60% load it will use less fuel than at 2700rpm at 65% load. Also, the official test done on fuel consumption found that mud tires and all terrains of the same size had no difference in fuel consumption (at least not measurable). The handling is compromised by almost 8% in steering and roll over avoidance, however, if done so the vehicle can go to more adventurous places it's great! If done purely for looks, it's dumb. Hate seeing a 4wd with not a spec of dirt in the chassis!

      Not to forget the added unsprung weight. The added rotational mass hurts that mpg, and stopping distance as well while we’re on the topic.

    • @harveysmith100
      @harveysmith100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AiDOS__ Good information.
      My reason for going from 29" to 33" was more to do with noise.
      I have a 70 series Prado with a little 2.4 Turbo. It is great, but above 55mph it got a bit noisy, now with 33" the noise doesn't kick in until 62mph (100kph) so it is more relaxing to drive.
      Oh yes, mine gets dirty.

    What is your opinion on wheel spacers?

    • @afonsonobrega4337
      @afonsonobrega4337 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing is, i love my land cruiser the way it is, it has 31 inch tires, same as your stock ones, but it is a short vehicle, and has good stock clearance. However i would like to buy a set of mud terrain 33's. My concern is that as it is a short vehicle, it gets unbalanced due to the tires getting bigger, and the axle width remaining the same. Installing some wheel spacers seems the simplest of solutions but i don't know if it affects negattively the durability of the suspension
