My 80 was bought new in 1993 by my grandfather. It was handed down to my father in 2000 with 40,000 miles. All 3 of us sons grew up on that truck. We all learned to drive that truck for licenses. And then it was handed down to me in 2017 with 230,000 miles, to raise my family in. It now has 260,000 miles. Can't wait for all the memories.

test driving a 93 LC this week. It has 330K and they're asking $4400. Interior is beat up and paint faded but still looks awesome. Any thoughts/advice?

I have an 87, HJ60 5 spd TLC with 274,500 kilometers, my first & only vehicle, my older bro bought it new, and I've had it for the last 27 yrs and it's my daily driver.🙃
The best car I ever owned was my 94 Landcruiser. I now have a 2010 LX 570, which I am keeping because it is the second-best car I have owned.
Well stated! I wont part with my 1988 Fj62 for those same reasons. My 94 year old mother loved climbing up into my truck and going for a ride. Even with her struggles with Alzheimers, she giggled like a little kid knowing we were going on an adventure. She’s gone now, but I keep Betty Mae for the memories it she has given me.

I feel the same way about my FJ. Put so much elbow grease into it. She feels like family now. --- UPDATE: I said family before I watched the video. Funny how we all feel the same way about and get attached to our vehicles.

Just bought a 2020 Tacoma TRD PRO. I’m 48 and it’s the last truck I will ever need to buy. People ask why I love Toyota? I reply would you trust your Ford or GMC to drive from Florida to Alaska and back to Florida without a problem 😀
Just got my 04 4Runner last summer, bought it wrecked with 150k on the odometer. I rebuilt it, replacing passenger doors and a few pieces and it was in such great shape it was worth every penny. Garage kept, very minor rust and mechanically sound. I smile very time I look at it knowing what fun I'll have taking it off road this summer. Nothing like a Toyota!
Original owner of a 92 FJ80. It is a part of the family. Still doing long trips and making memories each year.
TM I’ve had my 92 for 5 years now, and Lord willing, my kids will one day drive it when they’re all grown.
I got a '91 FJ80 last year, currently at 168k miles and going strong. A lot of people dis the early FJ80s due to low power to weight ratio, but I don't mind it. I love this truck!

Well done, sir. My two brothers and I came home from the hospital in the family's '69 FJ55. We all learned to drive in that truck, took many cross-country family trips and to this day, are still heavily involved in the Cruiser community. Aside from the reliability and capability traits, as you cited, there is something about them that gets in your soul. They truly become family through the shared creation of memories. My DD is a triple-locked, '97 80 on 35"KM3s and it still makes me smile every time I get behind the wheel. It's the love of these vehicles and people who support them that lead us to create Solid-Axle Summit in 2017 and the growth and outpouring of support has been incredible. It's been one of the most rewarding endeavors we have ever undertaken - a true labor of love. You should come.
I have 3 80s and totally agree with your comments. I also love fz-fe motor. I have a side hobby now and that’s visiting every gas station I see😁😁😁

I found it best just to use my diesel truck to tow my 80 to its destination. I think if you are going to off-road with this, even though they’re super reliable, make sure to have a friend or even better yourself with a truck and trailer

So I recently blew the head m gasket on my 97 FZJ80, but luckily didn’t experience the extra damage you endured. Knowing that we have faced similar decisions recently helps me feel safe I say I’m justified in my reasoning to pay for the fixes to put her back in the road. The memories shared and the many to come will keep our rig around for a lot longer than I’m ever admit!

At first, I was bummed you labeled it a 4.7 L. But after watching the full video, I can see your true passion for this, and I feel the same way. Cheers to you and I hope many more great miles for your 80 and your family to enjoy.
I searched for around 5 months for my 91 FJ80. It was in another state, and had a salvaged title. My daughter and I took the train up to it and bought it for $3000. And we drove that home and we have been driving it ever since for the last 13 years. My 2 eldest kids learned to drive in it and my 3rd is learning in it now. We have camped in it, taken it snowboarding, and exploring and for a family of 6 it seats 8 people. I am reinvesting in it as well for all the reasons you mentioned. Cheers!

My father bought a 1994 land cruiser. The car is been with us for 27 years now. I bought it from my father 10 years ago. Now it has more than 850k in the odometer. The best car ever made. The cruiser is my best reliable friend.

I've been concerned with all the electronic gadgets and trying to fix my own vehicles anymore. You made a very valid point on that.
A Moots KL Adventure agree the electronic brake booster can n my 08 4 runner went out tried to change it myself and had to be programmed so had to take it to the stealership lol

Love my hdj81 manual and you are right they are family. The memories we have had in it can never be replaced.
I bought my daughter a 98 wrangler and she wore it out on the beaches of North Carolina. After she bought a 2010 wrangler I got the 98 back. I will not get rid of it. I still drive it. I understand the emotional attachment. Long live old 4x4s.

I agree with you with the only difference that I prefer the HDJ80 (4.2 1HD Turbo diesel engine). They are powerful and super economical, with all the benefits you mentioned. I have 2, a 1997 and a special 1998 edition with 2 fuel tanks and Full-Time 4WD. Can't beat these vehicles.
I own a Land Cruiser 80 Series from 2005, yes 2005, here in Venezuela Land Cruisers are beloved vehicles and was the only country that sold the 80 Series until 2007, and therefore have a cult following. I purchased it second hand almost a year ago, and the previous owner had in very good condition, plus had already outfitted it with lots of extras that I was going to install anyway.
Toyota in my country has the best retention value for 2nd hand market because their reliability, availability of spare parts, ease of maintenance and countless options for after market add ons.
The LC 80 as well as its smaller sibling the 70 series are built on a very tough frame, with solid axle and spring shocks, a powerful engine, not fast driving, but powerful enough to do some mean off-roading. Here this vehicle is so popular that you can see them in the street almost every minute, and most have after market add-ons that make their owners proud (3" shock lifts, bullbars, fog lights, roof racks, roof tents, etc).
I hope to have mine for a long time, and when needed I will do refurbishing and continue driving it

I was close to selling my xj just because I’d need to put a new motor in it down the road but I’ve only had it for 6 months and the memories I’ve made with it already are awesome. After watching this video I’m definitely keeping her now. I have the same three reasons on why I wouldn’t sell it.
I completely understand that. I have a 1991 Honda Civic RT4WD wagon that I have lifted and off roaded everywhere. It's MY build and I have also destroyed a motor, and kept it going. I'm never going to get rid of it, they're so incredibly rare now and it also help launch my TH-cam channel.
I feel the same way about my 95. I've raised my four children and now transport my grandkids. Thank God that I've only had minor repairs here and there. It kept working for me even when I hit a low period after losing my job and had to skip servicing for a while. I hope that my kids hold on to it and appreciate it as much as I do when the time comes for me not to be able to drive it.

Have a 96 LX450 with factory lockers. Bought the vehicle from a friend cheap and it is a great hobby vehicle. Parts can get pricy, but the parts last. 80 series are the last of the "fix it yourself" vehicles. If you have one, you truly appreciate it and know what a gem it is. Another vehicle, not a Toyota, is the Jeep WJ 4.7L. Great vehicle that has a solid axle in the front. Create memories with whatever vehicle you have.
I ´ve had my 80 Series for five months already, and every time I get in it I feel like it´s a brand new car, despite it is a 95. I just love it!
Love my '96. Just re-built the engine too. Every hose, wire and belt is new. Radiator, Starter, alternator, air con. All new. There is no substitute.
These motors from what I researched the 4.5 L straight six so well-built you can rebuild up to 3 times. You leave and It’s keep the same motor that’s in the vehicle
miss my 95 FZJ-80, it was not 3X locked though. still miss it. unique reliable truck. ram 2500 cummins will be my next truck.

I get all of that 100%. My 80 is off getting a full engine rebuild right now. Also ERPSystem installed (because the 80 has no rust and I want it to stay that way) the electrics upgraded. After that the paint needs a new clear coat and the sound system upgraded and then we start kitting it out for our quarter lap of Australia.
I’ll never get rid of the our 80 either, it’s part of the family, even our friends have become emotionally attached to it 😂

I feel the same about my 2012 4Runner. The main thing I love about it is that it's simple. I don't want to have to go through 5 screens to change the radio or some other simple function.

I own a hzj80R love it I know it inside out I do all the work on it myself and look after her and in return she takes me to offroad tracks beach tracks and long distance camping. I'd never sell it
I just bought my 91' LC yesterday for $8500. 191K. It was owned by a military couple that have been married for 30 years. Even have a dog by the name of Major that I met. The wife started to cry and kept asking me what I was going to do with it and I explained to her that I'm going to keep it and my daughter being 12 will most likely end up inheriting it when she gets her driver's license and to let her know that it's going to a good home. That's all she wanted to know. The whole purchase was an holistic experience to which I've never experienced in my life. And the husband had all the paperwork as to what he had done with it too, so I'm very fortunate. Nonetheless, this is my first time owning one and now sky's the limit. Great video and thank you! I am a Vietnam Vet' and I have had every dream car and every dream machine. I have 7 vehicles with current tags. My 96 Lexus LX450 Triple Lock is by far and away my favorite.
I feel the same about my 94' FZJ80. 321k miles at this point but its easy to maintain and takes our family everywhere we want to go.

Totally agree. We've had ours for 19 years. It's the best toy I've ever had. Never left us stranded and get's looked after extremely well with full service history. It's been set up for over landing most of it's life with us fully set up for it. Our kids grew up coming with us on day trips to several week trips. Great memories because of it. It's not leaving my drive way any time soon either. Like never. hehe
Couldn’t help but subscribe. I’m a Brit expat living in Romania with a wonderful wife and daughter and a 1995 HZJ80, manual trans, naturally asthmatic diesel 4.2 inline 6. Somewhat down on horses compared with your gas 4.5, but heaps of torque and of course the triple lockers (and they’re standard fitment OEM dash controlled, no jumping out to wrench on locking hubs and such nonsense). I’ve gone a bit higher than you with a 4” lift with 33” 305/70/16 BFG KM2s. I bought it at 11 years old, and have owned it for 13 years. The truck has done 450k km and the engine is still pulling fine, uses no oil or coolant and no drips. Just love the truck, and despite Bucharest threatening to ban it from the city center (due to emissions), I plan never to get rid of it. It’s part of the family. My 11 year old daughter has known no other family vehicle in her whole lifetime. Emotionally, it’s my ‘other daughter’. Please check out www.landcruiserclub.net

When you travel to so many amazing places spend so much time and make so many memories with the family the vehicle becomes a part of that family ....a good old friend you can rely on ......but then I do own a Nissan Patrol !😉
I needed to see this. I've been on the fence about ditching my Disco 2. It's expensive to maintain (not quite $7k per year), but it's still cheaper than the $85k planned build of a Gladiator I've got my eye on. And that dang emotional factor. I feel so good driving it, my kids love the sunroofs and elevated rear seats. Thanks for another great video

The 80 series rock here in Nicaragua there all Diesel engine is the 1HZ 2 of my friends drive the 80 series Land Cruiser when out exploring I always want a land Cruiser with me. Nice rig I would never get rid of it either. I love my 2001 Hilux with 284k on it and will never sell it.

I just sold my sports car to pick up a turbo diesel 80 been looking at them for ages it feels like and am very excited to finally get one, I was having some doubts about my decision since I've been mainly a sports car person most of my life but also wanted something that I can make new exciting memories in and finally be able to get back into the out doors and backcountry again since I haven't been able to get there with the sports cars I owned ( could barely get down dirt and gravel roads without scrapping and ripping the bumpers off) this video really helped clear up some of those doubts I had about purchasing my 80 and im now even more excited to get her here.

I have a 100 series (2000 model) and when I bought it, she broke down right away (brake line fail near the reservoir) just a few miles after getting off the used car lot I got it from. My wife and I were 100 miles away from home and the used lot told me to pound sand as there was no warranty implied. I limped it into a local shop. Of course it was a Saturday and I didn't have many options. The shop had a man/wife operation and the guy was due to ship out with the Army (from Fayetteville, NC/Ft. Bragg) the next morning. He and his wife were just wrapping things up at their shop when we pulled in. They helped without hesitation, since I was a retired Marine and since it was a Land Cruiser :) He fabricated the line from some tubing he got from Auto Zone, and from scratch he got us rolling again safely. We got it home to Kinston, NC and since I discovered the Cruiser was from Buffalo and had sustained a lot of rust damage underneath, I had to decide whether to keep it and put more money in it, or sell it and find a better one. I went ahead and invested another $5k in repairs and decided to keep it. Two years later and with routine maintenance, she hasn't had a single mishap and runs like a top! It has 150k miles and I feel like it will easily reach a quarter million and beyond!!!! I'd drive it anywhere truly. Like you, I love my Cruiser and will keep her for many years to come :) AND....I still have the fabricated brake line since my mechanic saw no reason to change it with O.E.M. as the fabricated one was done perfectly in his opinion :)
Tell you what bud, back in 2007 I worked in the desert in the middle east. Very dusty, no vegetation. Wind blowing at +/- 10 Mph. Got picked up by a colleague who weighed at least 300 lbs, plus two other 300 lbs behemoth (fat, obese) and myself at 155 lbs. The vehicle was a diesel landcruiser (262 hp, 480 lb-ft torque). At the back we carried a counterweight of a Lufkin pump (pump jack) which must weigh at least 150 lbs. The driver put his foot down at about 30 mph and that cruiser pulled like a freight train down low. Imagine 1200 lbs of load plus some hand luggage, AC full blast and that particular cruiser had been in the desert for 2 years with +/- 70,000 miles. In the meantime my personal 2000 cherokee (4.0 lt, automatic) was gutless and the AC died after just +/- 27.000 miles. Fiat Chrysler products are crap and for m money landcruiser / 4 runner / tacoma / tundra or even Nissan terra is the 4WD of choice.

If you are worried about fuel efficiency, then a Land Cruiser is not the vehicle for you - no matter what variety you go for.....

All three reasons are spot on, and the emotional reason is why I've been hanging onto my reg cab Tacoma going on 13 years. Out grew the cab space quickly, but started building memories week one of ownership back in 07'. Dream of a day I turn her into a "trekker".

It's amazing how our vehicles are spoken about when memories or milestones we've all had. I don't have an overland vehicle but my 80 Malibu has been for me what your lc had been for you. I wish you many more miles and adventures.

We've got the same year FZJ80 with a big 'L' on the grill. I never want to get rid of it for all the same reasons. Would like to be able to park it until adventure calls, but for now remains daily driver as well. Thanks much and keep 'em coming.

Since you started the video and named the first 2 reason . I knew that 3 reason was all the memories one creates on the vehicle. Happens to me. When I have to sell my 4runner after 2 years of ownership and creating memories with my children
