I love finding and sharing small details in video games, which is why I create my Easter Egg videos. It gives me a greater appreciation for games I already love, and after watching them, perhaps you'll feel the same way.

    Everyone's favorite heroine, Samus Aran, is back! Packed to the gills with exploration, creative power-ups, and wicked enemies, Metroid Prime is a first-person adventure worthy of the Metroid stamp. An action-packed adventure set in the first-person perspective, Metroid Prime takes place just after the events in the original Metroid (NES). It has lead character Samus Aran, a bounty hunter by trade, chasing down the evil Space Pirates. Their intention is to use a genetic mutagen called Phazon to create a super army and take over the universe. While the installments in the series before have never been home to deeply involving storylines, Metroid Prime breaks the shell to offer up one of the most intriguing and read-worthy sagas yet.     Notes:
    Don't get in the habit of double tapping B for dashing, it's not needed and can prevent you from improving your dashing later on. When dashing, the fewer frames B is pressed for the more height you get out of it, in fact in 21% (minimum item collection) there's at least one dash where a 1 frame B press is basically required.
    Ghetto jumping isn't affected by your aim at all, and is caused by sliding up a slope while jumping, the backwards pull isn't needed but can help for some jumps.
    The missile under the bridge can be reached without a ghetto jump at all, just stand at the highest standable spot on the half pipe and do a well spaced out double jump.
    The main plaza e-tank can be gotten by space jumping from a ledge nearby.
    You can just double jump from the platform above the door leading to Morph Ball, and turn right a bit while holding forward to slide up the slope to the right, and get the grapple ledge missile.
    Rapidfire missiles is better done by holding C-up and mashing Y. Even if done frame perfectly, Y A Y A is slower.
    The out of bounds stuff is too immense for a YT comment so I'll skip over it.
    Unmorphing during Infinite Speed causes something called lightshow, it's caused because getting IS sets several values in the game's view matrix (a component of the 4x4 matrix used to calculate where to put vertices in space to make geometry appear to obey perspective and move relative to where you (the camera) are) to NaN, (not a number) making the arm cannon's vertices get displaced all over the place and the camera going waaaaay out of bounds due to how the Gamecube/Wii hardware handles NaNs.
    In IS, don't boost unless collecting an item with the glitch, and don't unmorph. You can use any trigger that plays a cutscene, like a map station, missile station, elevator, certain item collections, etc to reset everything to normal.
    Boosting and hitting a wall or other uneven geometry on the floor causes something called frame drag, where (this may be wrong, I'm not sure if anyone's figured out exactly what happens yet) it appears your hitbox expands or moves around a lot, any loaded item out in the open or not behind certain types of geometry (there's a binary flag set on all geometry that some people in the community discovered which ended up determining what enclosed items can and can't be collected with IS) will get collected.
    During IS, if you unmorph in an area with a fixed camera and morph again, the infinite rotational speed value that causes your hitbox to freak out will be reset and you wont get lightshow, allowing you to boost normally again. In speedruns, after collecting the power bomb, we unmorph/morph next to the water geyser in Ruined Fountain to get the ability to boost back.
    The R jump in Twin Fires Tunnel is difficult, instead we now do a fast double jump from the door, turn sideways in midair with R, and jump within 2 frames of hitting the ground (the first frame gains speed, second frame maintains your speed, everything after that loses speed) to do what's called a bunny hop, which maintains your speed, allowing you to clear the gap much easier than the original R jump, and faster than getting on the wall and dashing.
    You can just jump from the box in Geothermal Core directly to the platform.
    You only need to boost into Meta Ridley's heart once, and it works because they forgot to set the damage value on Ridley for Boost Ball, I can only assume the damage for all weapons defaults to a very high number until specifically set for each enemy, because boosting into his heart does 50,000 damage per frame. It only stops because the change in phase where his wings burn off is scripted to stop any damage from being dealt to him during the transition animation.
    It's great to see people doing showcases of the tons of really cool glitches this game has to offer :D

      Secret worlds (out of bounds):
      Metroid Prime is what's known as a subtractive game engine, the map starts out as a (not really) infinite amount of solid material, which we refer to as "aether". The developers then subtract a box of empty space out of it, and place room geometry inside the empty space. In Prime, the player doesn't have any collision with the aether so you're able to walk through it. This is the crux of how navigating the aether works. Due to how the physics engine works, when in biped mode (not morphed) the game performs a raycast straight down from your current position each frame, and stops you from falling if there's nothing below you. (the check returns false) This seems to be inaccurate however, because if this happens, your position will be raised vertically by a small amount each frame. This check returns false while standing inside the aether. This causes you to be able to stand on the floor of the box of empty space, in the walls, and above the ceiling. When you're in morph ball a different physics engine is used, and when in the aether you'll just fall forever. (until you unmorph or hit the world's size limit) This ends up being useful though, allowing you to fall down out of the aether above a room.
      Now's a good time to note that when in biped mode, when you walk off solid collision, the game takes 3 frames to update your state from standing to falling, and during those frames you can jump. While on the floor of the empty box, you'll be raised up slowly as expected, and when you reach the boundary you'll be popped out slightly, fall, enter the aether again, be raised up, pop out, etc in a loop. This combined with the previously stated rule lets you jump within 3 frames of being popped out of the aether. More importantly, if you step out of one of the walls of the box, you can jump within 3 frames, then move back inside the aether to gain height repeatedly. This is referred to as aether jumping. When you walk off a ledge without jumping in the first Prime game you lose all control, making aether jumping against one wall difficult. Instead, we find a corner of the box and do aether jumps diagonally across the corner, so if we fall we fall back into the aether on the other side.
      The game loads rooms two a time usually, the one you're in and the one you're probably heading to. (though in some rooms every adjacent room can be loaded) The game may also immediately start loading the next room, as is the case with many connecting hallways with only one room attached. (this is usually only true when the next room isnt huge, the memory pool for loading objects is only so big and the game will crash if it tries to load more than the pool is capable of holding) Most rooms have invisible trigger volumes, which once collided with tell the game to start loading the room associated with that trigger, and if another connected room is already loaded, unload that room. While out of bounds, you of course aren't guaranteed to hit those triggers, so there's two ways of progressing in this case. The most common way is to hit a part of the trigger that's sticking outside the map, and you can also shoot a door and get in a position fairly in line with the door (vertically) and close enough to it so it opens. This will force the game to load the next room, however if there are too many rooms loaded (objects in the pool) the game will crash, so this method is usually avoided unless guaranteed to not crash.
      To move between rooms, the game uses another trigger volume on either side of the door, which sets the room you entered as your current room once left, changing the map among other internal things. This is done out of bounds by getting ontop of or near the door and moving across the threshold. Most door's transition triggers (docks) extend far enough out of bounds that you can hit them by doing this, though some don't extend upwards enough, or there's a lot of collision ontop of the door, and you may have to transition to the next room by sliding along the side or bottom of the door, which is much more difficult. The geometry in Metroid Prime is single sided, meaning you don't collide with the backsides of the walls, so when you touch the backside of a wall from out of bounds (and rarely inbounds) the physics/collision engine ends up making you stick to the wall unless there's a signficant angle change in the geometry and you're rubbing up against the edge of it, or standing on it. To get out of this you can morph and use bombs to pop yourself off the sticky backsides and unmorph onto a standable edge or vertex.
      Things change when you try to interact with the geometry of a room you're not currently considered to be in (one the map isn't displaying you as being in) which can happen with adjacent loaded rooms. When you transition into a room from out of bounds, you havent entered it through the door, normally when a door closes that triggers the previous room's textures and some moving parts to unload/stop, so the room if often still visible. This can be fixed by shooting the door and jump to the side of it, then back up, and can help not crash the game when trying to load a new room by shooting a door and getting near it. The backsides of walls of rooms you're not in are quite a bit stickier, and can easily trap you permanently, so be careful when interacting with them. This difference seems to be caused by the game applying a much less CPU intensive collision detection to those rooms since you're not supposed to be able to actually interact with them in that state. This however causes some interesting side effects, the most notable of which is being able to morph into a slanted ceiling, wait a second, and then hold towards the wall and unmorph, which if performed in a good spot, will let you clip through the ceiling geometry and fall into the room. This is called ceiling warping, and is a primary way of getting back inbounds. The other way is to get in front of a door, shoot it, and get within range to open it, loading the room around you. Alternatively you can hit a load trigger, then haul ass into the aether, in a position where empty space in the room being loaded will occupy after it finishes loading, then touch the door to transition to the room you're in.
      Navigation out of bounds takes a lot of practice and visualization ability to figure out where the aether begins. In Prime 1 the aether boxes are fitted tightly to the room's collidable geometry, so it's fairly easy to deduce where the walls are, but in Prime 2 and 3 the empty space extends out for miles for seemingly no reason. If you want to start speedrunning the game, I would recommend not to use out of bounds tricks in the run until you've practiced them a ton.

    I like what you've done for this video, I just want to clear up a few of things in it (I speedrun this game)
    1. "scan jumps" are called scan dashes, theres no special name for having the double jump or curving the dash
    2. These's a better way to rapid-fire your missiles, hold up on the c-stick and spam the y button. The game will cancel the reload animation automatically and allow you to shoot far faster than with the B-Y method
    3. The reason that hitting the one spot in east furnace access causes the next room to load is because you're actually hitting the load trigger for hall of the elders, prime's loading is based off of triggers and not just shooting the door
    4. The dash you did on the puffer to get the artifact in magmoor is not a scan dash, just a regular dash, scan dashes are strictly dashes done with the scan visor
    5. when you unmorph out of infinite speed the game doesn't actually crash. You're in a state know as "lightshow" where because of the way IS works your vision and control of the game are completely out of wack and you (mostly) can't escape it once you unmorph and have to reset
    6. The seemingly random effects of IS are due to how it is obtained, when samus is in morph ball, there is a value in the game that tracks the morph balls velocity. When you get stuck on a wall and spin this value increases exponentially until it loops over to a non-number. When you boost you basically throw this value into samus's hitbox calculations, resulting in an infinitely large hitbox and collecting ice spreader since it was loaded in this case.
    7. Boost ball does about 10,000 damage per frame, ridley has a bug in his program where he is vulnerable to boost in his first phase. Boosting into his weak point does 10,000 unrestricted damage to him (about), simple as that.

      As for #1, #4, and #5 I shoulda been more careful when writing my script.
      For #2, 6, and 7, I did not know that at all! Sidenote... why does the Boost Ball do ~10,000 damage per frame in the first place? I feel like even if thats not supposed to be the full damage something takes, its too much ;p
      Also, you have my respect. I couldn't possibly finish a run of this game. I was barely able to record the stuff in the video using ample save-states.

      As far as I know the reason boost does 10,000 damage is because retro set it to do 10,000 damage. Retro made a lot of very strange decisions in primes development. Thank you as well for the complement, and just to throw this out there if you ever make a video of prime 2 I would be willing to answer questions (though I don't know quite as much about echoes as I do with prime)/point you to others who could help you as well. Echoes is a much MUCH more broken game than prime is.

    I can't do none of this with my copy of Prime 1 that came with the Prime 2 Echoes bonus disc. However: There is a alternate way to get Space Jump early by locking into a spiked ball enemy with combat visor in the room leading towards the impact crater and using that glitch to jump over to the ledge. A whole more difficult than the scan dash but after a few tries I managed to do it. I believe that trick with the combat dash works on the player's choice copies too.

      Jacob Scribner You are right, sadly I know that Plasma Beam early is impossible due to the door being locked until you progress further in the game.

      DarkFox64 Actually it's not impossible it's just more tedious. You have to go to Phazon Mines early and go through the ice beam door in the main area by doing a lock-on dash jump using a space pirate. Then all you have to do is go through the morph ball section and do some double jumps to get to the door leading to the grapple beam, go back to Magmoor Caverns and the door will be unlocked.That door is one of few in particular that remain locked until certain items are acquired in most versions of the game(doesn't care how you get them just as long as they are obtained) so, you just have to take a few detours. Ever since I started doing some of these sequence breaks I refuse to play the game until I get the space jump first and go through this shit just to fight Thardus with the plasma beam and acquire a bunch of items along the way.

    2 hours of clipping to get Ice Beam early? wouldn't it actually be faster to play the game normally?

      In speedruns this is executed in a few minutes and therefore is very fast. It also allows opening some doors early, as you have Ice Beam already, saving even more time.

    I know all these tricks but it's always super nice and very appreciated to hear how to execute them from another person. You could have mentioned Floaty Jump and Underwater Ghetto Jumping but anyway superb video and great work.

    1:42 i just figured out that you can skip the bees fight for the first missile container if you jump along the side of the room and collect the missile container xD
    Edit: but if you go back you have to jump around it or you'll trigger the cutscene and fight those damned bees

    Nice wallcrawl! Despite helping to discover IBBF (Although Flamancipator should get all the credit) I never actually successfully completed this route -- probably because Prime 2 was out shortly after, and I found myself enjoying that game much more. I will, however, take full credit for discovering the "Boost into Ridley" trick!

    Just so you know in the later versions you can only scan jump off enemies but you can still get the jump boots first by going through the first door, locking onto the bug, reversing out the door, standing on a tiny rock next to the door, scan dashing to the right and pressing and holding jump straight after. You should land on the little ledge. Its much harder but works.
    I learnt this and many tricks from metroid2002.com years ago. Im glad your making it accessible to others because it made me happy when I found these gems.
    There is also a secret world in the first room that you can use to go straight to Ridley while in sw and skip the entire game to metroid prime...but it will be impossible to pass without charge beam (and ice idk I cant remember the doors in there). Its pretty hard without items but feels rewarding.

    It's good to see the early ice beam glitch done so cleanly compared to the actual stream. That was a long few hours full of pizza rolls, broken ankle news, and metroid prime.

    I strongly reccomend anyone to learn L jump and R jumps. Not for breaking the game, but for having more fun while playing it:
    Traversing magmoor mines or any area is much more intresting and always keeps the pace up, and it's super fun.

    No, this fits for Spooktober. As a kid, I had a weird fear of glitches and game crashes. I was weird, I know, but I grew out of it pretty quickly. Otherwise, I'd be having PTSD over Sonic 06.

    The door to the plasma beam has a blast shield on it for some reason and won’t let me through. I played through the game normally up until this point, and I have the spider ball and ice beam but no grapple. Is this blast shield triggered by the amount of progress I’ve made or something?

    Idk wether this qualifies as a glitch or not but I find it really weird regardless. So in all versions of the game you can do some tricky jumping on the scenery in Phendrana's edge allowing you to get the power bombs early and by extension giving you early access to phazon mines via the back entrance in Magmoor Caverns. One of the things I thought of was using these early power bombs to fight the phazon elite early. However for some reason his tank will never break open despite every other object made of bendezium being breakable with the early power bomb. It will only become breakable once you have defeated the invisible drone and obtained the power bombs you're supposed to get first in the dynamo room.
    I thought that was Weird.

      A lot of encounters are only accessible after certain triggers are hit. The Chozo ghosts are the most common enemy to exhibit this property.
      It also happens a ton in MP2E, mostly because it has a more complex story line.

    Bare in mind:
    If you're not playing on the 1.0 American version, you can't get the Plasma beam due to the door being locked until you are suppose to obtain it.

    Someone please help me I don't know what to do, I have run into a glitch in metroid prime that won't let me progress. I have restarted the game up until that point too and its happened again. Basically I cannot acquire the super missile, I can pick it up and the game will say "super missile acquired" but after that I can't use it, and when I go into my inventory it doesn't even show up.

    You could probably skip a lot of the bosses using these tricks, although there would probably still be some that are mandatory unless there's a way to glitch right into Impact Crater without getting all the artifacts. Has anyone seen how many bosses aren't needed for a viable run?

      Thardus, the large beatle mini boss for morph, hive totem for missile launcher and most of the enemy ambush sections/chozo ghost fights if you count those.

      There is, you can dash off a Beetle from the room leading to Tallon Canyon when it's in the right place, and land on the same ledge you do when you dash from the ship; it's pretty difficult.

      They're all from the game's OST, but pitch shifted / sped up. In order of appearance: Title Theme, Tallon IV Theme, Chozo Ruins Main Theme, Magmoor Caverns Main Theme, and Phendrana Drifts Main Theme. Finally the outro track is Into Grasslands from Cave Story.
