Great video showcasing some of the high quality wackiness you can get into with this game! Hands down my favorite game ever, so I'm glad to see the love you're giving it.
There's one correction I'd like to point out about how to execute a Machball, though.
One important part of the trick that cannot be glossed over is that the jump button needs to be held for the first down tap on the d-pad (the tap that makes her aim downward mid-air). If you don't, Samus will lose her momentum when you aim downward, and you won't be able to perform the mach ball. This detail was the reason I couldn't figure out how to Machball for the longest time!
If you want to machball without doing a full jump, you can release the jump button to start falling, and press/hold again in time for that first tap down on the d-pad.
Aurum: "But there is a way to start rolling around at the speed of..."
Me: The speed of sound!
Aurum: "...slightly faster."
Me: :/
Fun Fact: the chainsaw beam *does* do damage, but only while a power bomb is exploding

Excuse me. I ran a randomizer run today and used that trick, and I found it very useful.
That opening scene was perfect.
The chainsaw beam can actually be powered by using it during a power bomb blast to do INTENSE damage

I was today years old when I learned Samus has beam shields
I still remember the good old days when a quick Phantoon kill involved Wave Beam shields instead of Missile stun locking. I haven't played or speedrun this in ages, so I imagine I'd be incredibly rusty.

Today, I still do fast (but not speed) runs on this game. It is so fun to do, and I’m so happy to see 2020 super Metroid content
STORY TIME
okay so my mother has an SNES and it has been a huge part of my life ever since I was 7. I remember when she would set it up on our old OLD tv and would play super Metroid, donkey kong country 1 2 and 3, and looney toons in front of 7 year old me and my little 5 year old sister. When I was 9, I finally racked up some courage to play this game. I stopped after the first part where the space station self destructs, since I couldn't handle all the pressure and stress. When I turned 10, I got to spore spawn and quit because I was sacred of what was going to happen next (my mom had only made it so far at the time). When I turned 13, I said you know what im going to do this. Im going to beat this game that took my mother years to finish as a kid. I whip out the console and it doesn't work. Devastated, I forgot about this game. It wasn't until later that my father bought me an emulator and downloaded super metroid and I did it yall.😭 I made it to mother brain(still havent beat her yet but still its an accomplishment in my book). All those years where flooding back of having nightmares of the freakish creatures, The waking up in the middle of the night on a school night to watch my mom play, have all led up to this moment. And people ask why I love this game so much....

So the bit with spore spawn super missiles is, normally the game kills your shots if they go off screen, presumably to free up resources.
But if you get the camera as close as possible to the normal edge of that screen *without* actually having it *touch* the edge, it stops that from happening, and you can shoot the super missile block.
At least, I *think* that's how it works.
Just now: I was watching this, picked up my Switch, tried the 'murder beam' on Mother Brain and AHAHAHAHAHA I BROKE THE GAAAAAAME.

I always wondered if the "Mockball" was that or "Machball" since you use it to go fast.
You always heard it, but never SAW it in text.
People write it as "Mockball", but it's supposed to be "Machball".
It drives me nuts when people spell it "Mockball." What are we mocking?
@@cameronmoore7675 I believe it's mocking the shinespark ability while in ball mode from the later games (Zero Mission and Fusion). Mocking as in copying (not real), not in the sense of making fun.
But yeah, Machball is more clever.
Machball (Noun)
A phrase used to define a glitch in Super Metroid in which you turn into a ball before touching the ground.
That's certainly not all glitches of Super Metroid, there are a lot of things can be done
So glad this is back, I was awaiting its return
The space time beam can also warp time toward the ending sequence if used in Crateria. Specifically the area that houses part of said sequence.

The chainsaw beam does work, you just need to lay a powerbomb and then it can work
For getting into wrecked ship without grapple, and without short charge
(If you have it.) Turn off high jump for the first 2 grapple block thing's and for the last one turn it on, now your at wrecked ship!
After using shine spark to skip the first grappling point with the missiles u dont need to shinespark to get to the wreck ship just take off ur hi jump boots
That chainsaw beam would be really good for pacifist runs.
The Blue suit glitch is needed for RBO
Im confused about the space-time beam. The way its shown makes it look like it resets powerups.
i remeber way back when on snes doing that in a room and being able to do the intro level with full powerups
There's even a funny little glitch when when motherbrain hits you in the intro cutseane you turn gravity suit purple
Space-time beam is really weird. On the original hardware, you can only perform the glitch in a few spots without the game crashing. Doing it in those spots resets everything. Once you save and start the file again, you'll start with the game's introduction and Ceres station with everything but your missiles.
If you play on emulator, though, you can perform the glitch in more places without having the game crash. The resets in these other places aren't as consistent, however. It seems random things get reset depending on your map location.
@@cameronmoore7675 I did it on an emulator to escape tourian since the door gets locked. Doing it there, saving, and then resetting sent me to the beginning of the game with all my progress lost, except all my powerups, except regular missiles

murder beam is now useless as the game is run with real time in mind, the beam lag too much, there is way to make spacetime beam not lag by firing a missile, you charge a shot then select missile and fire it, chainsaw beam can hurt if you use a power bomb before and during the explosion of the power bomb you can hurt enemy and notably the boss phantoon, the frame you showed with the shortcharge was the wrong frame the practice rom of the speedrun comunity as a setting you can activate name magic frame that show it.
this game is very well documented, you want to know more there is always the speedrun discord to ask question and we love to answer it and there is the speedrun wiki to read more about everything of this game

The chainsaw beam deals damage if a power bomb is active
If you save and reset after a Spacetime Beam reset (or as I like to say, New Game +), leaving the space station is easy. Just fight Ridley and leave. I just did it, and I’m gonna fight the bosses in reverse order.
Edit: Why did he have the Power Suit on? Unless he didnthe glitch wrong or in a different way, he should have the Gravity Suit on.
Maybe he turned off the varia and gravity suits?
if you forget to turn off spacetime, you have to take damage until the fight ends (unless maybe you have full supers and power bombs), which depending on if you have the gravity and varia suit still on, and your energy tank count, could take up to like 25 minutes, speaking from personal experience

Huh? But I was able to leave the intro stage fine. You're super powerful just hit Ridley 100 times and leave Ceres.

everybody acts like the mock ball is a breeze to do, its damn near impossible.
i literally learnt how to speedrun this game last week and i can do it (through door transitions) at a 98% consistency. its not hard at all you just gotta press the buttons at the right time. take the early supers one, for example. you stand outside the pink door & open it, you want to stand near the edge of the platform. you hold down the run button and the right button. you want to jump kind of late into the door. during the door, let go of run and right but keep holding the jump and press down. you want to press down again in order to morph but dont do it too early (you will bounce). as soon as you morph, press forward.
With a bit of practice it becomes pretty easy
