      CNET This whole non sworn in pathetic milk toast hearing was a joke! There was not even an investigation into the violations that this man and his company have perpetrated against the American people.

      CNET We need to recognize that part of what appears to have been going on, was Congress fishing for statements to use as leverage later on. A similar type of strong arming used in journalism. Congress designed parts of the meeting to be used as out of context ammunition for leveraging agendas they have in mind, by using footage of the meeting to state that Facebook and Zuckerberg backs them up.
      Regardless of how upset people are with Facebook, we need to recognize these pitfall traps before we have the government stepping too far into industries that they would only mess up with too heavy of a hand, we've seen what third lapdog the FCC did, what's next? We could see a clear misunderstanding or manipulation of Zuckerberg by the senator asking about privacy vs paid platform. Anyone of us who have used the premium side of a service like mobile games, Spotify, etc know what sucks was stating. NO ads for paid, targeted ads with info, irrelavent ads without info. And yet it was being twisted into "pay to protect your data". I don't know if this is because the senator was just too old to get it, or out of intentional manipulation. If the public isn't careful this debate will cause ratholes for uneeded heavy handedness to over regulate the internet (especially with net nuetrality gone).
      Cnet I'm not sure if you as a company are allowed to take a stance but I urge you to please take these things into consideration, especially if you have future content to be released on the topic. Even as a business you are an influencer.
      Thank you for taking the time to read this if you did

XD one politian with a machine gun and the coil of bullets are loaded backwards, another holding the barrel of a revolver and pointing the handle of the gun at mark, yet another trying to afix a bayonet to a pistol, another trying to put the magazing of an AR into the side of the gun, one holding the gun in such a way that his thumb is on the trigger and the barrels facing him trying to look menacing, others holding m14's the wrong way, one clearly holding a water pistol, another holding a spudgun, another holding a jammed paintgun XD

      Another reason why I believe term limits would be a good change, However, there were some representatives who had a clue and I wish they would put those together so we can get to some of the real issues. Regardless, political answers for political figures were funny and it was good to see them just as upset as I feel when I'm told what they want me to hear and cya. However, I really appreciated John Kennedy's comment about Facebooks EULA. I about spit my food out.

There are so many videos on it, but I didn't believe it. I then downloaded duckduckgo and other anti tracker apps along with wioth anti tracker browser extension. The argument and question at hand are why does Facebook need so much data and why is Facebook able to track people who don't have Facebook?
      if you haev iPhone or android download duckduckgo and you'll see how many times Facebook google and amazon is tracker your every move.

You realize they don't just collect data you post, they collect data such as your location, where you're moving, your contacts and family members, which websites you're visiting, what messages you're sending via WhatsApp or messenger etc. If are logged on to FB (even if you don't have the tag or app open) or any software owned by FB (Such as Instagram, WhatsApp etc.) they are following all of your movements online and your physical movement in person.

      Alex Volkov. It is pretty intense, and I believe there should be regulations about Data usage and privacy. My comment was mainly spawned from reading comments that seemed to act like Zucc has committed some horrendous cybercrime against humanity.
      In regards to the Data usage, even the metadata, it's like getting on a bus every day, and then complaining that you don't like the route taken. No one is forcing you to ride the bus, and the route is obvious to anyone who looks it up. It's not a huge secret that facebook records all sorts of data, every website and service does now.
      Facebook does have a bunch of issues though, such as its role in promoting biased media, and it shouldn't be allowed free reign over data.

      Gerberger I know how advertisements work. They appear as they are based on what you do, like, spend time on, could be interested in, and so on. It's intended to give the user a more streamlined, personal, and beneficial experience. Various websites track how you use the site and adjusts itself accordingly to suit your demands and desires so long as the core functionality is not changed. Certain TH-cam videos appear depending on what you have watched and liked in the past. The same goes for advertisements.
      You are giving advertisers and the site data no matter what you do without actively blocking out the tracking requests by getting NoScript and a typical adblocker. It is not false information; it is how sites and advertisements work. The burden of proof is on your side, now.

If they really wanna make a difference and "protect privacy" they should also take some actions with social media giants or the military who basically do the same

      And the Senators went way to easy on him, you can tell the his lobbyists where hard at work plus the Senators probably feared him because they all use Facebook and need it for getting elected again.
      A thousand of us closed our accounts and suedFacebook for 50 million dollars.

    It baffles me how incompetent these senators seem in having discussions, which is supposed to be almost the entire point of their job, aside from being informed about their topics, which they were also lacking in this case.
    How are they expecting to get anything out of this hearing if they interrupt him on every possible occasion and don't even try to follow what he has to say about their poorly thought out questions?Obviously he can't go into detail because of NDAs or something and he doesn't want to make any problematic statement in front of the media to avoid shitstorm and taking his statements out of context. None of these questions can be answered with a simple yes or no.

    • @ryleedubbeld5417
      @ryleedubbeld5417 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      A large practice in winning an argument (espicially in higher industries such as news reporting and politics) is to fluster your opponent, either by scaring them into a straightforward answer that they didn't want to give or not giving them a chance to give the answer they wanted to give, forcing a shortened version with potentially incorrent interpretations.

    • @LunariosLP
      @LunariosLP 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Sure, but that's not a practice a federal institution like a the senate should strive for, don't you think? An incorrect interpretation wouldn't help their cause, so why would they do that?

    • @ryleedubbeld5417
      @ryleedubbeld5417 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      But it *would* help their cause, at the end of the day the government likely has its own motives over the public. And in order to sway opinions towards these motives it needs to do some trickery and make laws that it thinks are right rather than the general public. Take for example how hard that last guy was trying to force Zuckerberg to promote a potential new law in the works. For if they can obtain Zuckerberg's 'approval', then it would be much easier to get the public on board with it too.
      The incorrect interpretation would allow the government and in extent the media to twist his words and sway the publics opinion.
      "Zuckerberg says yes to U16 privacy regulation" would likely make everyone think he was on board with everything the government is going for with this law rather than the actual response Zuckerberg gave.
      Alas, I digress. The main point is that governments are not beneath using underhanded tactics to promote what they think is right, or will get them more money (as corrupt as that may be), but that is a topic for another day.

    Love how they say targeted ads are “predatory” and “dangerous”.
    The most “predatory” experience I’ve had with them is when I was getting ready to build my PC and I got an ad for a really cool case that I really liked. I ended up buying it (after weeks of research, not just on the spot) and I’ve loved it ever since.
    Targeted ads allowed me to find a product I really love and still brag about all the time. Why is this predatory? If ad companies had access to my PRIVATE information (like my messages), then that would be bad. But real private stuff is encrypted and cant be used for ads. All that Facebook or Google can tell these companies is basic things that I am comfortable with people knowing. If I post on instagram that I can’t wait to buy a new computer, is it really sensitive personal information that I like computers?

      Il Tenore Yes many people need to learn myself included and that is the problem, not privacy and data breaches but misinterpreted protocols to get next to complete internet safety. The problem is ignorance (which is not bad everyone is ignorant on millions of topics.) ,the problem is a person to person basis. Many people need to take the time to learn basic fundamentals, others need better interpretation of methods which is Facebook's mistake, but in mass its a 50/50 issue that can only be fixed with 100% effort from both parties. The theory that I say is fundamental (which I assume you have heard a few times) that nothing is private, so we either learn to be mindful, or stop social media entirely. They brought up that professor guy who got information off of many people, I could go to Facebook look at your profile and learn a lot about you.

    This is like watching a kid try and explain how the internet works to his grandfather.
    Targeted ads aren't bad, putting adds onto a free service is also not bad.
    Why is it Facebook's job to monitor what YOUR kids are doing online?
    Isn't that called parenting?

      If you ever have a kid, and got kidnapped or something, deal with it yourself. It's called parenting. Lol. Don't ever call the police.

      well it seems that the gov is trying to control the internet and these thriving companies or at least limit it. The internet is gr8 how it is. We still have net neutrality (for now), but if the gov tries to take that away from us and start to add regulations to companies like Facebook that can ruin the business model then say bye bye to sites like Facebook, twitter, insta, youtube, etc... cause they use analytics for their ads and ads pay the companies bills to keep it running.
      Also I agree especially moms. Moms love facebook. I have an account that I haven't touched in 10 years lol. My mom made it back when I was like 8. But the point I was trying to make is that these guys are so old they probably don't understand the internet, the power of the internet, and the community of the internet.

      FrenchieFries normally i would say i don’t like the government to control things, and i do not think the government should ever regulate the internet, but in this case they are doing a very good thing and protecting Americans from themselves. It’s amazing how people are such sheep when it comes to social media and don’t understand how detrimental it really can and is becoming. Maybe people like me who are old enough to remember what life was like before the internet can better understand this.

      Nick Miller Nick Miller I remember how life was before internet. First decade of my life was internet free but the internet has opened so many opportunities. The internet has allowed so many people to create an online based business. The internet allows everyone to share info. You can learn about anything because it’s readily available on the internet. The internet being detrimental is an overstatement. Sure we all notice how mobile phones and social media has affected social life’s and how we interact but you really think the gov would do anything about that? No they wouldn’t. If they want to do anything it would probably be another tax or regulation to be placed for these large companies like Facebook.
      I’m sorry but people being sheep with social media is also not totally accurate. Sure you can say that if most people use Facebook rather than twitter for dms then yeah people can be like sheep and just go straight to Facebook but at the base of it all it comes down to convenience and entertainment that satisfies the user. I.e back in the day you had to let your friends know where and when to meetup. Now you can send a quick text at any moment to update someone. (People generally take this over board and don’t talk to each other as much but that’s just based on personal limitations)

    I get the feeling he's a good guy who got in way over his head. As the company and power of Facebook grew he probably made decisions he regretted and now he's being drilled for it. Not to mention that I'm sure sharing information with certain parties in exchange for benefits is very tempting. I'm sure governments have approached Facebook too. I've watched numerous of these clips and he remains very professional. On the other hand, you can sense when he's dodging a direct answer and it feels like he's very uncomfortable. Now being drilled is never comfortable, but if you followed your heart you've nothing to hide. He's talking in a way that avoids direct answers at times, which means he's hiding something/protecting/damage controlling.
