  • If you’re an athlete wanting to be the best you can be, at all costs and are obsessed with reaching a certain level or outcome…
    -
You most probably suffer from constant fluctuations of feeling happy and depressed.
    -
I’ve been there, MANY MANY times in my life and still will till the day I die.
    -
This is life, especially when you are one who achieves great things, achieves what most humans do NOT!
    -
Most people will NOT understand you.
    -
As much as they mean well and give you terrible advice like “relax” “don’t worry, don’t be so nervous”, “who cares about the result”
    -
They fail to understand you! On so so many levels
    -
How can they understand, how can they know that you’ve invested so much money, time, energy and heart into becoming the best you can be.
    -
    It’s a double edged sword.
    -
The upside to you putting your self worth on the line of a sport results/outcome is why you are obsessed with getting to a desired level.
    -
And it’s why you most likely will get there! Remember that society does warp most people to be average humans who don’t “stand out”
    -
If everyone was a stand out and incredibly high achieving human who lived live on their own terms… we would have a crazy uncontrollable world.
    -
So, if you are wanting to achieve high level things… you can’t take the advice from those who haven’t achieved as such.
    -
The downside to being too dependant on whether a result goes your way or not, I’d that you’re depending on external sources to validate whether you like yourself as a human.
    -
This gets super dangerous for your sanity and fulfilment as a human.
    -
So be aware of this and why it’s causing you to feel like you’re “never good enough” and celebrate the positive things you already do have regardless of external results (I.e you are someone who never gives up on his/her dreams, you go all in on things, you are a reliable goal driven human; etc.)

Interesting, thanks! Good luck in the Ohio tournament!!! I'm sure you have a lot of insights from your experience so any info on improving table tennis tournament/match performance (mental, physical, technical) would be cool.
