Based list, but I think with the screen time Floch is given, he's an S and I'm not even a huge Floch supporter. Everytime he was shown on screen he was moving the plot forward. And if you compare his char to pre time skip there's huge development, even if the char development was off screen. We got a hint of it in chapter 130.
I find your take on floch character arc being reserved for Jean awesome. It could've been something very seemlessly done and could've made Jean into a way more complex character that would've made a lot of sense like Eren and Zeke. He could've had Eren like development where the dots all connected after the time skip. I feel like this new Jean could've also served the same role that Jean served in canon being the man having to constantly make a conscious effort to move forward but while also serving as a mantle to what the scouts had been through before and having him be vocal about this front would've made sense for him as character like floch while also not alienating a part of readers because more watcher would be able to emphasize and at least understand Jean unlike floch in canon who instead of being seen as grey is mostly seen as black in canon to the majority of the fan base. Would've been a awesome dyanamtic especially considering his relationship with Eren before the time skip 🔥

also add to this the fact that in s1 eren and jean are very clearly portrayed as antagonists on a personality-level. jean teaming up with eren in the final season would have been a super cool character development for him, going from eren's hater to his biggest ally.

Falco and Floch would switch tiers, Gabi should be A tier. Gabi is just Eren from the other side, except she doesn't push the plot forward. Falco is just a good dude. Floch is a better character, and he did develop. Before the timeskip he was crying about how weak he was, but with the Yeagerist he realized a bunch of weak people would be powerful together.

Gabi & Ymir too. Gabi is one of the best characters in the series. Ymir affected the plot by freeing the pigs, started the rumbling, and developed by rejecting the kings will. How she wasn’t S tier when Grisha & Willy are? I do not know.
The things Floch does doesnt affect the story. Founds the jägerists - its not Eren going around convincing people it was floch Leaks Erens situation to the public -> groundwork for the coup Plans to take care of the volunteers -> death of 2 named characters, and completes their(his) take over - cause while he and eren are allies, Eren actually does relatively little on screen as their leader Moves to the port with what little information he has, deduces Armins plan in a matter of moments -> leads to the port battle and Armins bs being exposed Clings to the boat for days? and shots the engine of the plane -> would lead to all of the alliances deaths and or the rumbling not being stopped IF it werent for Isayamas bs of giving Falco the first flying titan in the history of titans maybe ever - ah and also perfect controll and long time use ... So many of his actions impact the plot and the cause of actions of "main characters" - and from the logic of the AoT universe he would have been very successful in accomplishing all of them.
The thing with Annie is that I don't really see a problem with her character from a writing standpoint, the problem is that everyone behaviour towards her became randomly insane for no reason
Annie is actually rather based. She doesn't blindly follow Marley, and she believes the world doesn't deserve to be saved due to tge persecution of Eldians. At the campfire scene, Annie was about to explain her involvement with Marco's death, but Reiner cut her off to say it was all his fault. She's like Falco in the sense that she can understand both perspectives, but is more cynical about it. The problem with Annie is the writing around her. Namely that she faces no consequences for her actions. Reiner, Gabi, Magath and Zeke all learn the error of their ways and face their consequences. Annie doesn't and even gets to bang Armin.
Not sure about Gabi, maybe its my bias against her but At the start she is a good character for sure, the modle child soldier - but there were already issues there, the mary sue plot armor bs; not sure if you said it but her blowing up that armored train and making it out uninjured is horse shit. Not immediately dying after she killed Sasha is debatable but also weird. Later on, she stays in her brain washed mind for far to long, yes she is a young child, but Falco picked up on the fact that they werent devils way way faster and even "kinda" told her - and even after all the events on paradie - she only really changed at a moments notice, the moment the rumbling started she was so friendly to eldians. And again all the plot armor around her, which is absolutely part of her - niccolo not killing her, surviving firing an anti titan weapon, her perfect aiming, never getting any injuries in battle, everyone doing shit for her. One could argue if that is part of her or not - but I would say that a Mary Sue with plot morphing gravity is one package. Her being a Reiner done well, nope, I think Reiners they have relatively little in comparison, besieds being brainwashed at the start - which is a comon trait for all warriors. Child Reiner wants to be a Hero, Gabi wants to get rid of the Island to put Eldians outside in a better light, sure there is also a wish for validation, but I think even that wish is different in its core. Then Reiner, on paradie very quickly* noticed that they werent devils and while he was continueing his duty he never tried to kill due to racial based hate. Gabi on the other side... continued to kill or try to kill even after being shown kindness. Reiner felt consequences for his actions, Gabi not so much. But for Gabi everything changed onces the walls came down, the moment she was dependent on the goodwill of others, to safe her family; Then she finds some remorse if you want to interpret it as such, and doesnt mention the word devil, but no appologies, no ptsd like remorse and again in the end no consequences - people like Connie or Kaya forgive her the moment the plot needs them to. So while Gabi in isolation is a decently good character - maybe A - the fact that she bullshits her way throught with Isayamas protecitve blesssing is a no go for me.
at 13:00 you said about Hisu that her random behaviour is not her foult but the stories - from that standpoint I guess you see it the same with Gabi, not her foult that she gets special treatment. Even then S is a bit high but that could be absolutely debated.

Theo is a problem for me; He is like 3 characters at once, Willys Heir, Marleyan Keith Shadis, and also one of the 3 Marleyan we know (yelna, gross and him). So he is supposed to be the face of the Marleyan Eldian hate, be the "tragic" guy to kill paradies for resources and also be compassionate to the Child Soldiers... All things he shows and the first two where even done decently right till S4 part 2 id say after wards he was just a general, a bit of a step down and then after decates of eldian hate and use of eldian warslaves & child soldiers without giving a single shit. He cares about the warriors on a personal level. To much for one character in to little time.
I disagree with the list a bit. I don't think Gabi is S tier, she may be a decent character but she serves a redundant role. I thought Gabi was going to have an important role (WH theory) but it didn't end up going anywhere. I think she could be removed from the story and the pacing would improve. Floch has a tremendous impact on the story, is the reason the Paradis coup was successful, the reason Eren was able to do the rumbling, and underwent a lot of character growth. He's Eren's right hand man and the story would be impacted if he was removed. But it's your list, we can agree to disagree.
I totally agree, I found Gabi to be a very redundant and on the nose character that didn't need to be there. Her character being the way it is, is also very boring in my opinion especially in comparison to all the other post-timeskip drama that was going on.
I genuinely agree with almost all of your takes on this list. I would maybe bump up Pixis to S because “Pixis likes”. I do think that Floch sits just right at A. He doesnt develop for shit, stays consistent af, is a necessary devil, and due to his reliability, which he developed right after or during the death charge against Zeek, is chosen as right-hand man to Eren. I do feel as though Zeek should definitely be S. Absolute God. Only character flaw, and a sensible one at that, is the parent issues, as pointed out by Eren in the whole saving Mikasa from the 3 stupid ass traffickers ordeal memory shit, which were slightly resolved when he hugged his big daddy, so at least there’s some fucking redemption arc for him in that regard. He is arguably one of the most consistent characters that puts forward several big themes in the story, and the only reason he fails is feelings, which, contrary to his usual, logical self, prove that even the most objectively cunning of characters can be human if there is some logic to that emotional bias. This mfer fumbled the bag hard only because he decided against activating the Euthanasia Plan to make Eren get over to this side, unless I’m somehow missing something and lack basic reading comprehension like many ending defenders claim critics do. NOT like Eren in 139. That shit is not feelings being poured out. That is lying to the audience and to yourself the entire time and then somehow suffering twelve concussions and retrograde amnesia and realising you fucking love mikasa and forgot why you did the damn Rumbling. It could’ve made sense if Eren wanted Mikasa and it was clearly shown earlier in the story. In this case he just seems like a psychopath who longs for attention and doesn’t reciprocate feelings, just leaves things unsaid, and hurts others for the sake of his own enjoyment, which he clearly never is shown or made out to be in any sense of the word. So yes, I’m basically in agreement with all of what you’ve said and done this video. Keep it up.

Armin well he didnt do shit but also did shit Joining the alliance, supporting the 50 year plan/Zekes partially, the scene with Connies mom, the port plan, he had no agency for most of the first half S4 and the moments he did shit himself it was shit. Did he impact the story? Yes, as a main cast character thats normally a given. Did he take a way from the story, Id say yes, he took himself out, everything Armin was and was leading up to become prior to S4 was robbed by the Umi Da Clown, also his talk no jutzu and hypocrisy is monging people.

Regarding Levi, Historia and Armin, these characters all had great character routes in Season 3. Sadly they all got either sidelined or their characters got ruined with bad writing . I think that's what happened with Levi and Armin in Season 4. Prior to Season 4, they were very solid. Levi understood the concept of kinship and becoming a more moral person, and Armin having the courage to sacrifice himself for the will of the Scouts.

Bro, well, you underestimate the Avengers too much. Hanji in F? What did she do to you? Considering that you have a Colt in A, while Colt is a pretty one-dimensional character revolving around his love for Falco. Hate is blurring your eyes, bro. Half of the Avengers squad should be raised to one level. I would put Armin in A, he still does a lot: the attack on Liberio is his plan, later Armin encourages his friends to help Eren and thereby lets him touch Zeke, then he and Hanji organize a team of Avengers, later comes up with a plan to deceive Flock (the plan failed, but without the plan the plane would have been blown up immediately, since the detonator would not have been disconnected, so the plan failed, but was still partially successful). I would move Connie, Hanji and Mikasa to B, although Hanji may even be in A. All these characters have some kind of development after the timeskip. Connie is developing even in the last released episode. Hanji, who carries the burden of the commander of the scouts and tries to cope with it, is not always successful. And even Mikasa shows some kind of development, although he tries to resist it with all his might. But still, the conflict with Eren turns her whole inner world upside down, it cannot be said that nothing happens to her and she does not change in any way. Jean may even be a weak S (Jean's development has been going on since the first season and this is happening just in the last released episodes), Levi deserves A, he does not develop much, but not too much time is given to him. I would also probably move Annie to B, she only managed to get out of the crystal for a few chapters before 131, and she had some development towards the fact that she decided to open up to people dear to her (except her father) and takes care of them, this will be continued after 131. Magath and Shadis may deserve a weak A. Elena seems to me to be downgraded to A, in the end she does not have a powerful development, although there is an interesting disclosure and she strongly influences the plot. But still, Elena mostly executes Zeke's orders, so many of her actions rather give points to Zeke. Also, Falco should probably be lowered to A, he is too wise for a 12-year-old child who grew up in the conditions of propaganda, and I wouldn't say that Falco is developing much.
Tha attack on Liberio was Eren and Zeke's plan. Armin's plan was only using the airship to escape Liberio and return to Paradis, which is something that realistically any other character with half a brain cell could've come up with. Other than that, the only thing that was actually useful and effective that Armin did post timeskip was blow up the port, which again, was part of Eren and Zeke's plan, not his own plan.

I think it's reasonable to assume that everything related to the scouts was most likely invented by Armin, since the scouts did not trust Zeke and Eren completely at that time. And in any case, Hanji says that Armin was possessed by the "spirit of Erwin" when she talks about Armin's plan. So this is obviously not some banal and obvious idea to everyone.

This confirms that this was the strategy for raiding Liberio that Eren and Zeke have come up with, not Armin. Eren then relayed this strategy to the Scouts through the letters. All Armin did was come up with the plan to retreat on the airship, which is what makes Hange's "possessed by Erwin's ghost" remark all the more look like another attempt from Isayama to try and make Armin look smarter than he actually is, at the cost of the intelligence of other characters, this is why so many people dislike the way Armin is written. Almost all of Armin's deductions in the story are obvious things that any other character with half a brain cell could've come up with, but they don't because Armin needs to be the "smart one" and then gets credited as a genius undeserevedly constantly. That's not a good way to write an intelligent and smart character.

Plans to take care of the volunteers -> death of 2 named characters, and completes their(his) take over - cause while he and eren are allies, Eren actually does relatively little on screen as their leader
Moves to the port with what little information he has, deduces Armins plan in a matter of moments -> leads to the port battle and Armins bs being exposed
Clings to the boat for days? and shots the engine of the plane -> would lead to all of the alliances deaths and or the rumbling not being stopped IF it werent for Isayamas bs of giving Falco the first flying titan in the history of titans maybe ever - ah and also perfect controll and long time use ...
So many of his actions impact the plot and the cause of actions of "main characters" - and from the logic of the AoT universe he would have been very successful in accomplishing all of them.

The thing with Annie is that I don't really see a problem with her character from a writing standpoint, the problem is that everyone behaviour towards her became randomly insane for no reason
Annie is actually rather based. She doesn't blindly follow Marley, and she believes the world doesn't deserve to be saved due to tge persecution of Eldians. At the campfire scene, Annie was about to explain her involvement with Marco's death, but Reiner cut her off to say it was all his fault. She's like Falco in the sense that she can understand both perspectives, but is more cynical about it.
The problem with Annie is the writing around her. Namely that she faces no consequences for her actions. Reiner, Gabi, Magath and Zeke all learn the error of their ways and face their consequences. Annie doesn't and even gets to bang Armin.

At the start she is a good character for sure, the modle child soldier - but there were already issues there, the mary sue plot armor bs; not sure if you said it but her blowing up that armored train and making it out uninjured is horse shit.
Not immediately dying after she killed Sasha is debatable but also weird.
Later on, she stays in her brain washed mind for far to long, yes she is a young child, but Falco picked up on the fact that they werent devils way way faster and even "kinda" told her - and even after all the events on paradie - she only really changed at a moments notice, the moment the rumbling started she was so friendly to eldians.
And again all the plot armor around her, which is absolutely part of her - niccolo not killing her, surviving firing an anti titan weapon, her perfect aiming, never getting any injuries in battle, everyone doing shit for her. One could argue if that is part of her or not - but I would say that a Mary Sue with plot morphing gravity is one package.
Her being a Reiner done well, nope, I think Reiners they have relatively little in comparison, besieds being brainwashed at the start - which is a comon trait for all warriors.
Child Reiner wants to be a Hero, Gabi wants to get rid of the Island to put Eldians outside in a better light, sure there is also a wish for validation, but I think even that wish is different in its core.
Then Reiner, on paradie very quickly* noticed that they werent devils and while he was continueing his duty he never tried to kill due to racial based hate. Gabi on the other side... continued to kill or try to kill even after being shown kindness. Reiner felt consequences for his actions, Gabi not so much.
But for Gabi everything changed onces the walls came down, the moment she was dependent on the goodwill of others, to safe her family; Then she finds some remorse if you want to interpret it as such, and doesnt mention the word devil, but no appologies, no ptsd like remorse and again in the end no consequences - people like Connie or Kaya forgive her the moment the plot needs them to.
So while Gabi in isolation is a decently good character - maybe A - the fact that she bullshits her way throught with Isayamas protecitve blesssing is a no go for me.
at 13:00 you said about Hisu that her random behaviour is not her foult but the stories - from that standpoint I guess you see it the same with Gabi, not her foult that she gets special treatment.
Even then S is a bit high but that could be absolutely debated.

He is like 3 characters at once, Willys Heir, Marleyan Keith Shadis, and also one of the 3 Marleyan we know (yelna, gross and him).
So he is supposed to be the face of the Marleyan Eldian hate, be the "tragic" guy to kill paradies for resources and also be compassionate to the Child Soldiers...
All things he shows and the first two where even done decently right till S4 part 2 id say after wards he was just a general, a bit of a step down and then after decates of eldian hate and use of eldian warslaves & child soldiers without giving a single shit. He cares about the warriors on a personal level.
To much for one character in to little time.
Just like Willy he had nice potential but was not developed and finally fleshed out correctly.

I don't think Gabi is S tier, she may be a decent character but she serves a redundant role. I thought Gabi was going to have an important role (WH theory) but it didn't end up going anywhere. I think she could be removed from the story and the pacing would improve.
Floch has a tremendous impact on the story, is the reason the Paradis coup was successful, the reason Eren was able to do the rumbling, and underwent a lot of character growth. He's Eren's right hand man and the story would be impacted if he was removed.

I do think that Floch sits just right at A. He doesnt develop for shit, stays consistent af, is a necessary devil, and due to his reliability, which he developed right after or during the death charge against Zeek, is chosen as right-hand man to Eren. I do feel as though Zeek should definitely be S. Absolute God. Only character flaw, and a sensible one at that, is the parent issues, as pointed out by Eren in the whole saving Mikasa from the 3 stupid ass traffickers ordeal memory shit, which were slightly resolved when he hugged his big daddy, so at least there’s some fucking redemption arc for him in that regard. He is arguably one of the most consistent characters that puts forward several big themes in the story, and the only reason he fails is feelings, which, contrary to his usual, logical self, prove that even the most objectively cunning of characters can be human if there is some logic to that emotional bias. This mfer fumbled the bag hard only because he decided against activating the Euthanasia Plan to make Eren get over to this side, unless I’m somehow missing something and lack basic reading comprehension like many ending defenders claim critics do. NOT like Eren in 139. That shit is not feelings being poured out. That is lying to the audience and to yourself the entire time and then somehow suffering twelve concussions and retrograde amnesia and realising you fucking love mikasa and forgot why you did the damn Rumbling. It could’ve made sense if Eren wanted Mikasa and it was clearly shown earlier in the story. In this case he just seems like a psychopath who longs for attention and doesn’t reciprocate feelings, just leaves things unsaid, and hurts others for the sake of his own enjoyment, which he clearly never is shown or made out to be in any sense of the word. So yes, I’m basically in agreement with all of what you’ve said and done this video. Keep it up.

Regarding Levi, Historia and Armin, these characters all had great character routes in Season 3. Sadly they all got either sidelined or their characters got ruined with bad writing . I think that's what happened with Levi and Armin in Season 4. Prior to Season 4, they were very solid. Levi understood the concept of kinship and becoming a more moral person, and Armin having the courage to sacrifice himself for the will of the Scouts.

would have been even better if Floch and Jean both survived against Zeke 💯🙏. Because you could see the distancing gap (like Yin and Yang☯️) between these two characters (Jean and Floch) reacting to one event (Erwin’s death and the other scouts by Zeke) with Jean being in the scouts still and Floch being part of the Yeagerist.
Also would remove part of the criticism about Floch being the ONLY survivor (besides Levi) feeling like plot armor with both Floch AND Jean surviving.
Also would be a parallel parallel to Armin and Erens dynamic and MAYBE Eren and Zekes dynamic

Considering that you have a Colt in A, while Colt is a pretty one-dimensional character revolving around his love for Falco. Hate is blurring your eyes, bro. Half of the Avengers squad should be raised to one level. I would put Armin in A, he still does a lot: the attack on Liberio is his plan, later Armin encourages his friends to help Eren and thereby lets him touch Zeke, then he and Hanji organize a team of Avengers, later comes up with a plan to deceive Flock (the plan failed, but without the plan the plane would have been blown up immediately, since the detonator would not have been disconnected, so the plan failed, but was still partially successful). I would move Connie, Hanji and Mikasa to B, although Hanji may even be in A. All these characters have some kind of development after the timeskip. Connie is developing even in the last released episode. Hanji, who carries the burden of the commander of the scouts and tries to cope with it, is not always successful. And even Mikasa shows some kind of development, although he tries to resist it with all his might. But still, the conflict with Eren turns her whole inner world upside down, it cannot be said that nothing happens to her and she does not change in any way. Jean may even be a weak S (Jean's development has been going on since the first season and this is happening just in the last released episodes), Levi deserves A, he does not develop much, but not too much time is given to him. I would also probably move Annie to B, she only managed to get out of the crystal for a few chapters before 131, and she had some development towards the fact that she decided to open up to people dear to her (except her father) and takes care of them, this will be continued after 131. Magath and Shadis may deserve a weak A. Elena seems to me to be downgraded to A, in the end she does not have a powerful development, although there is an interesting disclosure and she strongly influences the plot. But still, Elena mostly executes Zeke's orders, so many of her actions rather give points to Zeke. Also, Falco should probably be lowered to A, he is too wise for a 12-year-old child who grew up in the conditions of propaganda, and I wouldn't say that Falco is developing much.

Tha attack on Liberio was Eren and Zeke's plan. Armin's plan was only using the airship to escape Liberio and return to Paradis, which is something that realistically any other character with half a brain cell could've come up with. Other than that, the only thing that was actually useful and effective that Armin did post timeskip was blow up the port, which again, was part of Eren and Zeke's plan, not his own plan.
@@pipusmaximus189 We are not told exactly which part of the plan was developed by Zeke and Eren, and which by Armin and Hanji. I think it's reasonable to assume that everything related to the scouts was most likely invented by Armin, since the scouts did not trust Zeke and Eren completely at that time. And in any case, Hanji says that Armin was possessed by the "spirit of Erwin" when she talks about Armin's plan. So this is obviously not some banal and obvious idea to everyone.
@@paladdalap7913 Jean in chapter 108: "He (Eren) summoned Mikasa to the battlefield and sent Armin to destroy the port." This confirms that this was the strategy for raiding Liberio that Eren and Zeke have come up with, not Armin. Eren then relayed this strategy to the Scouts through the letters.
All Armin did was come up with the plan to retreat on the airship, which is what makes Hange's "possessed by Erwin's ghost" remark all the more look like another attempt from Isayama to try and make Armin look smarter than he actually is, at the cost of the intelligence of other characters, this is why so many people dislike the way Armin is written.
Almost all of Armin's deductions in the story are obvious things that any other character with half a brain cell could've come up with, but they don't because Armin needs to be the "smart one" and then gets credited as a genius undeserevedly constantly. That's not a good way to write an intelligent and smart character.
