The "Freedom" panel is legitimately one of the saddest and most disturbing things I've ever seen.
It looks so _innocent._ You should be so happy for him! He hasn't smiled this brightly since he was a child. This is everything he's always dreamed of - to be free, to soar above the clouds like a bird, in a world where no wall could ever cage him again.
But - those clouds aren't clouds. It's smoke. Smoke rising from the charred earth below, where, at this very moment, the worst atrocity in human history is taking place, by his hand. And as all the world's vast, incredible beauty is quite literally being crushed into dust, his mind regresses to that of a child, completely unable to deal with the horror of his own actions. That guilt would be too great for anyone to stay sane.
As hundreds of millions of innocent lives are trampled and burned, and as his childhood friend looks at him in horror, that freedom he always sought reveals itself to have been a lie all along. True freedom is impossible, because the cost can never be paid.

Bruh.... Isayama said in an interview “I think I want to hurt the readers. I want to do that very much.” This chapter was pure unadulterated Pain!! Heartbreaking. This reminded me sooo much of Instrumentality from The End of Evangelion! Especially with ghostly Ymir appearing to Ramzis as he dies, & Eren disassociating while causing the literal apocalypse.
There is no happy ending for anyone in sight!! I need to know why Ymir appeared before ramzi!!!

I loved Sasha but I didn't hate Gabi for killing her because she had the same pre-island mindset Reiner and Bertolt did and just saw Eren slaughter her people so why wouldn't she want payback? It's literally the same situation Eren was in when Reiner and Bertolt destroyed the walls only Gabi had a gun and her enemies weren't Titans. I think people are just playing favorites and not trying to be open minded which is actually what this story has taught me most of all.

- Eren saying he is so disappointed and it's defferent from what he expected

Armin didnt hate annie, he was actually fond of her, so when berthold huge crush came in to play... well... another examples to the matter: ymirs decission to be eaten in marley which may had been influeced by marcel galliard, erens love for historia that could be heightened by frieda reiss or even his father... as she is very similar to dina fritz and have very similar stories and manners, of course other factors come to play but there it is...

19:50 This is how i see it. Eren finally achieved ultimate freedom, so he felt euphoric for a moment. Anyone with that much power, would probably get a certain high from it. But after that he realised what he was doing. That's why his smile was fading. The guilt and regret was setting in. Just like if you do something you know isn't right, like eating something unhealthy or caving to some addiction. Afterwards, you'll feel like shit. Then he sees Armin and is seeking validation, that he's doing the right thing. Armin looks disheartened, as to say "Eren, this isn't right. This isn't the freedom we dreamed of".
I like your interpretation. But I think it's off a little bit. First of, I think Eren here is just dissociating in order to cope with what's he's doing. Either conciously or unconciously he reverted himself back into his innocent child self who dreamed of being free and to explore the outside world without limits. At this point he's barely even aware of what is going on I think, because as he's reverted into his child self, he started to relive some of his stronger memories of his childhood's dream. He even unintentionally called Armin through the path while in this state. Of course, I believe ultimately that he can come back to being his current self at any point he needs to, but he probably doesnt want to.

This isn't quite true. The conflict isn't that it's either Paradis is wiped out or the world is wiped out, but instead, the issue is that Eren can't accept having to sacrifice Historia and her children and forcing them to live as cattle. Even in this most recent chapter, Eren told Ramzi that he's doing this, not only because he wants to save Paradis, but because he was disappointed when he found out there was humanity outside the walls and that he wished he could just wipe it all away. The reason for this is because even if Eldia's future is secured by sacrificing Historia, as long as there are humans outside the walls, they will have to continue to fight. This is about freedom, not survival.
This is 100% true but we also need to think about how the eldians have been trapped and killed for 100 years without knowing about anything on the outside. But that also can’t justify eren killing so many innocent people like this, this story is so amazing
Laurence Dwain I just think there’s no right or wrong for both sides as they do have their own reasons to fight. Marley kills Eldians because of what they did in the past. Eldians inside Marley kills Eldians inside the wall because of brainwashing.
Eren kills everyone outside Paradis because he just wants his friends and people to be safe, and yeah also his selfish dream 😞 the book never showed there’s humanity beyond the wall. I never thought that the book and Armin’s childhood dream influenced Eren that much tbh until I read chapter 131. We all know that Armin is always the one who wishes to explore outside.
It’s just too complicated for a 19 years old boy 😢 that’s why maybe he said he just wants everything to be wiped away.

Don’t know if you ever look for different scans after first reading a chapter, but some clearer scans show that Eren on the last page isn’t pupiless, it’s that his eyes are closed and you’re seeing his eyelids. Some scans have the pages wayyy too dark.

I think what they're setting up is Annies death. Hear me out now lol. I know you're thinking "they just brought her back, it won't be impactful" but listen. So, they are making Annie and Armin a thing and Annie is telling Armin that he has to stop his habit of trying to reason with monsters like her and Eren. Armin will try to reason with Eren until Eren kills Annie. That'll be Armins final character development. He'll learn that reason doesn't win in this world.

After thinking about it, I definitely get the sense that armin and annie have a chemistry in season 1 for sure! Obviously they can’t develop anything because circumstances back then but eating bertholdt definitely solidified feelings for armin! And it would make sense for Annie to catch feelings cause armin has been the only dude talking to her! I'm not sure what Eren means when he says he disappointed. Is he saying that he is disappointed that there are even humans at all or is he disappointed that there is a human society out there that still inflicts the same suffering he saw within the walls if not worse? Would he be as disappointed if the humans outside were all peaceful and gungho? The latter implies that Eren would want to genocide them just the same even if they were peaceful, and nobody would be for that, not even me. While interesting from a character perspective if he really just wanted to make it so that he could enjoy the land without human presence, I think it takes away from the hard question of "your family vs the world." The reason why I could say I was fine with Eren's choices before was that it seemed like the author wrote it so that either he not do anything and risk having his family genocided by the world or he genocided the world himself to protect them. No Naruto talk no jutsu cop out. Bertholdt said it himself. It's a cruel world. You don't get a deus ex machina get of jail card. I was intrigued by how the audience dealt with that question. We're all here moral grandstanding about how killing is wrong but we aren't in his position. What if with his future powers he looked at all the choices he could have made that wasn't genocide of the world and they all ended in the genocide of Paradis? Would he be justified then?
The problem is that by making Eren kill everyone just because he wanted to see an uninhabited world due to a personal dream that got hyped up by Armin, it takes away from that hard question. Now people will just say, "Eren is doing this just because of a solely selfish desire and not really to save his family." and you can't really defend him. Nobody will think that any one dream like that is worth genociding the world. Nobody will think about whether or not Eren made the "right" decision by doing what he did instead of Zeke's plan. For those who were against Eren, were you pro-Zeke's plan?
I believe Eren is disappointed in humankind, the way it is, not in it's existence in general. Corrupt, violent, disturbing, never changing for thousands of years. He gave them a chance at the one conference they showed some chapters back, but everyone was against pro-Eldian representatives, so he just left the room disappointed.
Since the world is different to what he dreamed of, given everything he learned through Grisha's memories and his personal experience, he eventually decided it's best to end it all. I don't think he would kill everyone if the world was different.
Can't say whether or not he is right, but he is somewhat justified. His people were fucked for generations, both inside and outside the walls, he learned he's been killing his people the whole time, the outside world turned Eldians against each other... If any of us were him, we wouldn't be any different.
@@Yaori999 Yeah, I think it's evident that there were multiple instances that despite Eren knowing something would happen, he still waited to see if it actually would, as if looking for an excuse not to follow his visions and enact genocide. He waited to see if Mikasa would tell him she loved him, he waited to see if the pro-Eldian representatives would defend Paradis, and he waited to see if Willy Tybur would actually declare war. There were even times in which he vocally expressed his disappointment that the visions came true after all.
So in Erin’s sick twisted mind, that’s freedom?!
