Kenny affects the plot more than you might think. He was a major player in all of Uprising, affected Levi's backstory, and had a really good death scene. And the serum he provides affected RtS and the dilemma scene.

Mikasa in B pre S4 not a fan she is one of the characters with the most screen time in the entire show doesnt change - and has like 3 notable moments, Female Titan Arc, vs Ymir and Historia (saying she will kill them if they get in her way...) and the moment at the start where she moved on from eren in a sense (trost) but that is irrelevant cause after his comeback she still is his loyal follower. So with the amount of screen time and her position of one of the starting trio, no development and next to no impact on the plot for like 80 chapter is not good enough for me.

It's never implied that pyxis wouldn't have thought of something similar if he tried. Love your tier lists and your explanations, I fully agree with most of your choices. It's depressing to see how many of those amazing characters got ruined post-time skip. To think someone created and developed them only to throw them into the trash eventually. What a waste of skills and potential.
I appreciate that you divided your tier list in three parts and how thoughtful you are in the individual ratings. It's depressing to see how strong the list starts, with several S tier characters and no F tier at all. Then post-time skip - 131 shows things start to go downhill and then we reach the final list with sooo many characters falling down to F. Breaks my heart.

Annie was a great antagonist. She was so interesting pre timeskip. She’s generally a very selfish person but it makes her more realistic in some ways. When we’re “supposed” to be rooting for her after she wakes up post timeskip, her character was ruined for me. Also, as an antagonist she was genuinely terrifying and her reveal was bad@$$. I liked hange for similar reasons to sasha. Both aren’t super complex or anything but they’re funny and kinda charming characters. Levi definitely was s-tier in season 3. He has subtle development when Kenny dies and he says, “why did you leave?” It turns everything we knew about levi on it’s head and it made me love him as a character. I think he’s equally as good as Kenny as a character. Levi was so much better pre-timeskip than post IMO. I agree with most of these but mikasa was always kind of a nothing character to me. No real depth and we know nothing about who she really is or what her opinions on anything is. She’s too stoic, all we really know is who she is in relation to eren. Nothing really else. Timeskip just ruined her even more to me. Mikasa just isn’t a good character to me. People criticize her the same way they criticize Levi for being too stoic but he has so much more depth and is much more unique than mikasa. To me, Levi and mikasa as characters are like night and day. Levi is much, much better written than mikasa. Floch was great pre-timeskip but he got so much better post. I agree with most other placements but Erwin should get his own tier above s. Best character in the whole series to me and one of the best I’ve ever seen in an anime.
arguably I think Rod Reiss is A-tier at least. During virtually all of his screen-time he gives important information and has a direct influence of the plot moving forward. And he does have a bit of development once you learn he thought the same as his brother in his want to free humanity from the oppression of the Titans. But he goes back on his beliefs once he sees the effect of his brother gaining the memories of the world. Just his influences on Eren and Historia alone makes me think he is an A-tier plot device at the very least. He gives a lot of much needed context to the power of the titans and consistently pushes the plot forward with not much screen-time, and he even has the conviction to follow through with his beliefs by transforming into a titan when his plan to pass on the founding titan to Historia was ruined.

But he was a generic shonen protagonist in the beginning. That was Isayama’s point. He started off “I wanna kill all the Titans” until he finds out more and more about what Titans really are. And as he lays his hand on that Titan towards the end and says “that’s a fellow patriot” is just beautiful character development to where he came from.

Bro, you put Pixis in A, and at the same time you put Shadis in B. Shadis, in one chapter dedicated to him, reveals his own very important topic, which also affects Eren's worldview that you don't need to be special for happiness, it's okay just to be yourself. We received a full flashback with the disclosure of the topic from Shadis, but we did not receive such a thing from Pixis, despite the fact that he participates in several arcs quite actively. Shadis for me should be no lower, and possibly higher than Pixis as a character. And you also put Zeke's mother in B, next to Mikasa and Shadis. Zeke's mother is just a plot necessity with royal blood with almost no character, development or backstory. And you put her on a par with Mikasa, who has a perfectly prescribed past, and is a key character in almost every arc of the plot: In the battle for Trost, she shines as a character, with a Female titan arc she also saves Eren along with Levi, and later motivates him to fight (in the manga she is the main motivator, in the anime only partially Mikasa motivates Eren). In season 2, of course, Mikasa has less influence, but she also has much less screen time, and at the end of the season it is Mikasa and her words that give Eren the strength to fight on when he has a nervous breakdown, which saves all the scouts in the end. In the first half of the third season, I would say Mikasa has the role of a minor character, like all cadets except Eren and Historia. But at the same time, we get the disclosure, though not of the character, but of information about the world through the discovery of the truth about the Ackermans and Mikasa's connection with Levi and Kenny. Well, almost the entire second half of season 3 is one battle, so Mikasa also shows only her fighting skills there, but I note that in choosing between Armin and Erwin, she still goes through some growth, eventually giving up the fight to save Armin, since she accepts that Erwin is the best choice and she needs to give up feelings for her friend for the good of humanity. And even before that, if I remember correctly, she leaves Bertholdt to Eren and Armin, trusting them, even though she sees that they are losing and they need help. In short, this is clearly not the level of Dina Fritz. I would put Dina in F, and Mikasa and Shadis in A. Well , and a few more permutations like Grisha in S and probably Levi in a weak S. Grisha is a key character for the whole plot, and given his screen time, his development and influence on the plot are simply incredible. Levi also makes many important decisions and helps the development of characters such as Eren, Armin, Erwin, Mikasa and even Jean. Levi himself does not even need development, only disclosure, since he is already an established personality, but still Levi has some development, and the disclosure of Levi's character is excellent. Plus a Flock with a Pixis and a King, I think you still need to put it in B. And so in general you probably need more categories just 6-7 instead of four, then it will be easier to distribute, and then Floch with Grisha/Levi and Dina with Mikasa/Shadis will not be placed in the same category.
F means they take away from the story and none of them did that. Yeah I see the argument for Shadis BUT it wasn’t necessarily HIS decisions that brought about those things. The only decision he actually made was to follow Grisha. The rest was just regular stuff.
Considering this is PRE-timeskip, I have to say you really did Levi dirty. Season 3 was literally his biggest highlight. He did more in that season than Eren did. Why you ranked him so low is beyond me.
In my humble opinion, Hannes deserves to be higher than he was. He went from being a coward to sacrificing himself trying to save Eren and Mikasa in atonement for his mistake. His death also affected Eren heavily.

Shadis, in one chapter dedicated to him, reveals his own very important topic, which also affects Eren's worldview that you don't need to be special for happiness, it's okay just to be yourself. We received a full flashback with the disclosure of the topic from Shadis, but we did not receive such a thing from Pixis, despite the fact that he participates in several arcs quite actively. Shadis for me should be no lower, and possibly higher than Pixis as a character.
And you also put Zeke's mother in B, next to Mikasa and Shadis. Zeke's mother is just a plot necessity with royal blood with almost no character, development or backstory. And you put her on a par with Mikasa, who has a perfectly prescribed past, and is a key character in almost every arc of the plot: In the battle for Trost, she shines as a character, with a Female titan arc she also saves Eren along with Levi, and later motivates him to fight (in the manga she is the main motivator, in the anime only partially Mikasa motivates Eren). In season 2, of course, Mikasa has less influence, but she also has much less screen time, and at the end of the season it is Mikasa and her words that give Eren the strength to fight on when he has a nervous breakdown, which saves all the scouts in the end. In the first half of the third season, I would say Mikasa has the role of a minor character, like all cadets except Eren and Historia. But at the same time, we get the disclosure, though not of the character, but of information about the world through the discovery of the truth about the Ackermans and Mikasa's connection with Levi and Kenny. Well, almost the entire second half of season 3 is one battle, so Mikasa also shows only her fighting skills there, but I note that in choosing between Armin and Erwin, she still goes through some growth, eventually giving up the fight to save Armin, since she accepts that Erwin is the best choice and she needs to give up feelings for her friend for the good of humanity. And even before that, if I remember correctly, she leaves Bertholdt to Eren and Armin, trusting them, even though she sees that they are losing and they need help. In short, this is clearly not the level of Dina Fritz.
I would put Dina in F, and Mikasa and Shadis in A. Well , and a few more permutations like Grisha in S and probably Levi in a weak S. Grisha is a key character for the whole plot, and given his screen time, his development and influence on the plot are simply incredible. Levi also makes many important decisions and helps the development of characters such as Eren, Armin, Erwin, Mikasa and even Jean. Levi himself does not even need development, only disclosure, since he is already an established personality, but still Levi has some development, and the disclosure of Levi's character is excellent. Plus a Flock with a Pixis and a King, I think you still need to put it in B. And so in general you probably need more categories just 6-7 instead of four, then it will be easier to distribute, and then Floch with Grisha/Levi and Dina with Mikasa/Shadis will not be placed in the same category.
F means they take away from the story and none of them did that.
Yeah I see the argument for Shadis BUT it wasn’t necessarily HIS decisions that brought about those things. The only decision he actually made was to follow Grisha. The rest was just regular stuff.

Considering this is PRE-timeskip, I have to say you really did Levi dirty. Season 3 was literally his biggest highlight. He did more in that season than Eren did. Why you ranked him so low is beyond me.

In my humble opinion, Hannes deserves to be higher than he was. He went from being a coward to sacrificing himself trying to save Eren and Mikasa in atonement for his mistake. His death also affected Eren heavily.

@@saintitchief she does a lot of the exposition for different parts of the story, the wall being made from hardening, Reiner Behrtolt, the vow renouncing war, how Eren got the powers, why the world hates them

@@saintitchief some of it is partly shown before she does it but others like the wall hardening is directly from her. to me you are categorizing both of them as exposition characters which they mostly are, but have different ratings.
