  • In this episode I go over in detail how to use the haywire twist tool to make a perfect haywire twist when using wire leader for fishing. A wire leader rig is an ultra effective method of offshore fishing like planer trolling for toothy critters like kingfish, sharks or barracuda. There are many manufacturers of this gadget such as Du-Bro, Skurge of the Sea, and American Fishing Wire. No matter how you twist it, learning to properly make a haywire twist is essential to successfully fishing with wire leader, and this tool will facilitate the execution every time to help you catch more fish.
    Enjoy,
    Tight lines & good vibes.

      Thanks a million for watching another video and leaving some more great feedback. 100% accurate, practice makes perfect. Once you get it with the haywire twist tool, you won't go back to doing it by hand. I always use the tool, it's a fail safe way to ensure you have a good knot. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it... I to use lighter wire for smaller fish ... On my planer lures I'll use a #4... Only set back with this tool and the lighter wire is the barrel wraps are more tricky to do... So I do the twist ties with the tool and the barrel wraps by hand on the lighter wire. Hope this helps... Take care & tight lines :)

    After years of doing them by hand, I was on barrel roll twists and ran #8 wire completely thru my right index finger! About a quarter inch sticking out the top of my finger! Happened really fast, bled like crazy for about a minute. Looking for a haywire tool now

    Thanks for sharing great info! What do you suggest for gripping the loop when not adding a hook such as at the end of a ballyhoo rig where I might clip to mainline?

    That’s a great tool Heath I use it once you get use to it you canknock out twenty rigs in no timeouts use I think 69 lb wire there is another tool that is like a flat piece of metal aluminum it works good too good to see you back check into going live out fishing on tackle Thuror we can come on and talk to you. You have enough subs I don’t know about your viewer time JT 🇺🇸🇺🇸🐟🎣🌴🛥⛱😃😊🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

      Hey JT, I've messed up so many haywire twists that I resort to this tool all the time, the barrel wraps I free hand, but the twist ties I trust more using the tool. Going live will be a thing for the future, I'll have to figure it out, gotta get a web cam too, phones have bad reception for it. Definitely good on subs and view time, averaging about 1,100 hours every 28 days. Regardless, it'll happen one day. :) take care.

    Good little tool. But I find it difficult to use when making stinger rigs. Any help would be appreciated.

      Thanks for watching and supporting the channel. Honestly I've never made it with stringer so any information I can give you would more than likely be incorrect. I would just say that when it comes to pre-planning any rigs you're going to make that is of the utmost importance. I usually use the lightest wire possible when it comes to these things too. Hope this helps

      Hi Johnny thanks a million for watching it asking a great question. The one that I have is quite old but it is from a company called Du Bro. and yes from what I've seen the ones that they are selling now they do have a different makeup. There are different brands however that look like they're all steel... There is a company called Skurge... They are on Amazon and they sell a haywire twist tool. Not sure about the manufacturer but it looks like pretty much the same thing. Here's the link if you want to take a look at it:

      @@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing Thanks Professor, I found a good made one for large diameter wire. It’s $60! I bought the Scruge for 18.95Amazon. I don’t use any large diameter wire. Smallest I can get away with and big enough so the fish “Can’t get away”!

    How many barrel wraps do you make? Also where do you recommend i purchase a Haywire Twist Tool? Tight Line 🎣

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a million for watching and asking a couple of great questions. I do about 6 to 10 barrel wraps at the end of The twist. there are several companies that make these tools the one that I like the most is a company called Dubro. Sometimes you can find them in tackle shops but it's easier to order them online. this company makes different size ones depending upon the thickness of the wire you are using. I tend to use lighter wire like 40 lb test so I go with the smaller tool. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your support of the channel I truly appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

    when i try to make the initial wraps, the main line keeps wanting to come out of the channel when i twist. Wont stay in the groove. Any tips?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a million for watching and asking a great and important question. First, this is the most common problem to have when using this tool. However, once you get over this part, muscle memory kicks in and it gets easier. To help stop the main line portion from slipping out of the secondary channel, you'll want to pinch slightly towards the arrowhead of the tool, making sure to not kink the loop end of your wire, this should hold your wire in place, then, I twist clockwise, away from myself with the tool, it also helps if you push the tool forward towards the loop where your fingers are pinching. This creates a little more pressure. In essence, you are pushing and twisting at the same time. Hope this helps solve your issue. FYI, when I first started using the EZ twist tool, I couldn't get the hang of it, I even gave up on it, but, I worked through my frustration and finally figured it out... Now, I won't do a twist with my fingers, I only use this tool. Good luck & take care

      Thanks a million for watching. When I first started using one, it confused the heck out of me... But once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature...
