Hi Florian, I wish you would mention Violette Dorange a bit more. You mention everyone around her but skip her. She is the youngest sailor in the Vendee, and of course female. As a woman, I do tend to keep track of the female sailors! Thanks for the show-I have not missed a day!
We have heard that Pip Hare is heading to Melbourne , the capital of the State of Victoria. (Just a note, Tasmania is a State of Australia and they tend to get a bit cranky if they get considered a separate entity. ) I understand the sailing community in Melbourne has reached out to offer support for Pip, I know one of my friends here is very keen to check out her boat.
I live in Melbourne and have been following Pip since the last VG. I am devastated for Pip, she was starting to make her way up to the front couple of packs. I am so keen to check out her boat. It will probably be one of my only chances to check out an IMOCA.
Clarice… looks so good , like she is ready to go to out in the town ! lol! These girls / woman are doing things many men would absolutely balk at ! Love the coverage !
Hi Florian, could you eventually comment a bit on sailing boat simulation software that might be used by the Vendée Globe IMOCA boat designers / teams? Would be interested which simulations are state of the art and how they use it and to which degree the simulations for hydrodynamics and aerodynamics can model the real world forces the boats are facing during the race. I am fascinated about the designs and the applied technologies. Of course the sailers performance is even more impressive. ;-) An explanation about how the autopilots work and latest improvements for the autopilots would also be quite interesting. Thanks a lot for the great daily videos - was very happy to see you online again at the start of this Vendée Globe.
Pip's going to Melbourne. Has the facilities needed and will be relatively simple to load and ship Medallia back to UK from there. Crew and Pip can easily fly in and out as well.
I was thinking Shearwater, or Storm-petrel, or such..... I was just looking at Avibase (World Bird Database) to see what species are in that region. Looks like there are several possibilities? As a birder (in the States), I'm always wondering what species we are seeing flying around the IMOCAs! :)
how do they balance the center of gravity of the foiling boats? The seawolf mentioned sea water. but I am not sure. by the way, thanks for sharing. love the channel.
Florian, could you go over what Pip Hare was able to do to set up a temporary mast? She said that she was able to use one or both of her (Spreaders?) as make shift mast(s). I think she said she was able to set it in a cup of sorts. Are the IMOCA's set up for this kind of thing? Thanks! Cheers!
Boris has gone for a new set up for lighter winds and will therefore speed up. So I assume he will catch no 8 Paul Meilhart within 24 h which makes the race again more interesting
Hey Flo, could we get a summary of stats to mark the halfway point pls? Info like the team with the fastest boat speed, % or wind angles and strengths since departure. Such other general info 🙏
Thanks for the great content. I would like to know about the energy usage on board. How big are the batteries, how often does the engine need to run and so forth. Thanks again.
Anyone know what’s happening to Pip? She now seems to be heading SE instead on the rhumb line to Melbourne … maybe rerigging? She did mention she was going to try and rig a trysail.
It looks like a couple days of fresh to strong northerlies for pip, with a high and sw filling in behind, that'll blow her right on course for Melbourne. Next couple days will be to try to maintain station without giving up too much south. Saw a post today where her tri sail is under construction, that'll help heaps with sailing ability. She was smiling
Pip is "going to Australia so not Tasmania". Sam Davies also said she had passed Australia and Tasmania. Tasmania is definitely part of Australia and not a separate country. Pip is heading for mainland Australia.
It would have been really awesome if Clarissa Cremer or one of the other sailors would also have brought a flat earth 'disk' and charted their position on that. They could have discussed the incredible acceleration they would have observed as they approached the outer rings of the disk in the 'southern' ocean as they travelled to the edge of the circular landmass of Antarctica to make their circumnavigation... ( ;) )

Do we think Boris will make it to place 8th in the next 32 hours? :)
definitely❣💪
oh yesss. 😊
32 might be a bit optimistic, but over the next few days for sure
Boris as of 5:27 Eastern Time is in 8th place but only by 3 nm
He is 8th, but the distance to the leading pack is growing ;)

What a great race ! This is my first Vandeglobe
Thank you for the insights and coverage
Thank you so much for doing this daily coverage

Melbourne makes sense as there are much better shipping options from Melbourne to Europe compared to Tasmania
@@davidtydeman1434True but us Tasmanians would have loved to have her come here.
Came here to look for Tasmanians reacting to "Pip is going to Australia, NOT Tasmania"
@@burneybysouth take pictures:) 😀please
I’m glad Tasmania gained it’s independence. You go Tassie🥰🥰

Pip mentioned in her video update from yesterday that she's heading to Melbourne.
The birds are probably Shearwaters, from the petrel family.

@@TaygetaBlue Around Australia Short-Tailed Shearwaters are most common I think (not a birder, but a birder adjacent student of biology)
Thanks again Florian!!
Pip going to be fine 👍💪

Can they use electric furling systems similar to Amel's. Given the opportunity for hydro-regen it could still be a whole wind driven race.
So cool, so far into the race and it's neck and neck.
Missed seeing the premier today! I'll watch the replay this evening!
The best place to be sailing toguether: near Nemo Zone !?!?…👌Kepp fighting!!!
Thank you! Vondee Globe!
It's Christmas storm at the Horn that is going to be interesting
Yup. That's probably when king Jean will slip by them all for the win;)
Anyone know what’s happening to Pip? She now seems to be heading SE instead on the rhumb line to Melbourne … maybe rerigging? She did mention she was going to try and rig a trysail.
She mentioned a northerly that might push her back before the wind turns to a more favourable easterly.
@@mlj9931 Yup, does appear to be from the north, but she seems to be on a broad reach, losing ground to the SE. Unfortunate.
She did a rigging of fortune and is heading to Melbourne. She is doing great.

Does the predictor take account of Simon broken foil. If he has to avoid port tack or keep short what does his routing look like?
Hey Florian, is there any news on what happened to Pip's rig? I'm sure the boat designer/builder would like to know what failed.
Boris 8th now!
Pip going to Melb according to facebook post yesterday.
And what does happen if someone goes overboard? Is that it!?
Big Sea!!!!
I think Pip may go to Geelong docks in SW Melbourne😊
Geelong is not in Melbourne. If she is going into Port Phillip Bay while Geelong is closer Melbourne is better in terms of logistics.
Pip is "going to Australia so not Tasmania". Sam Davies also said she had passed Australia and Tasmania. Tasmania is definitely part of Australia and not a separate country. Pip is heading for mainland Australia.
Go Boris
Yes! At least I hope so!😅
Boris, Tasmania is part of Australia.
8 for Boris
He definitely will! 😅
I guess in only few hours, Boris will take over position 8 😊
Thank you for the shorter Video today! 45 Minutes are unfortunately way too long for me :( 10-15 is perfect!
❤
Birds are Terns I think
i think Boris will be 8 th place

"flat earth 'disk". Good Idea considering that earth is flat. and the exclusion zone is where the boats fall over, it they get to close to it. Da!!!
