I found up in Wikipedia that Cape Horn or Cabo de Hornos (and now copying from there) was identified by mariners and first rounded in 1616 by the Dutchmen Willem Schouten and Jacob Le Maire, who named it Kaap Hoorn after the city of Hoorn in the Netherlands. That is the reason the English meaning "Horn" and Spanish meaning "Hornos" don't match.
Yeah, the Dutch were renown mariners and the biggest rivals of the British back in the 1600s. Apparently, they built a huge number of ships and believe at one time had the largest trading fleet. Beautiful ships too!
Pip Hare mentioned in one of her Slow Boat to Melbourne videos that she was shifting all her gear forward to reduce water from coming in from the stern. She mentioned the anchors that were "sealed" in Metallica's port tunnel. Are anchors not allowed in the race? Are they sealed like the engine...disqualifying if used?
Hejsan Erik, that is his command for his camera to turn in the direction of which he is talking about! Easier to understand, if one knows french, then it makes sense.
Question: What was the reasoning for disallowing the use of 'T foil' rudders, in this edition, given they are known to stabilise foiling boats and do you think we will see them in the 28/29 edition? Cheers and Merry Christmas from Down Under
Please, can you explain the “optimize” diferences between arkea and macif boats? They are tie up to Horn… They will be a tight battle to France… bye Santiago, from bsas Argentina (i enjoy very much THE SHOW, you investígate and explain much than others channels… i think your top siders shoes were wet many times with sea & salt, is true?)
Hi, did I miss your update about what happened to Boris with his "Pirouetting in the Pacific"? Would be great to here your analysis. Thx to you and your daily show from Lower Franconia : )
I already asked the same question in the comments to another video: the answer I got was that in one of the paste Bags it seems that JLC got problems in handling the camera especially when he changed the camera angle and accompanied his attemps to change the view of his camera with this "clack, clack, clack". Seems that he kept this as a kind of tick.@@antoinehanekom4689
In what time zone do the skippers and their land-based crews operate? Do they all change with the skipper's actual location...do they stay in UTC or FR time (UTC+1)?
Still the best coverage! Have you answered the question about the legality of the wings individually being able to vary their pitch to increase stability?
Hi there and thank you for this amazing show/podcasts you are making ❤ one question a bit old school, does any of the skippers smoke cigarettes?

Hey, great show I like to watch everyday! You already pointed out, that Charlie's boat is more suitable for lighter conditions, while Yoann's boat is perfect for downwind sailing or Boris' boat for hard conditions. But WHY is that, technically, that Boris is more like the Bowser in Mario Kart, while Charlie is the Mario (the generalist)? Merry christmas!
Are all sailors bringing their rubbish back to Europe from food parcels or ...into the ocean ....like I imagine still goes with most of the world's ships?
Old salt Jean Le Cam is a legendary sailor….going around the globe for the sixth time? 😎
The slowboat to Melbourne is faster than some others😂 go pip
Not winning = losing
Pip is a treasure. I've never seen a jury rig with two sails before.
@@willemhaifetz-chen1588 you'll always win something...
Good evening from Germany 🇩🇪
Wow Pip has a better speed going than some of the boats with full healthy rigs.
The music you use is sooo nice...
"Clac, clac, clac..."
Me wonders if Conrad's gradual turn to the north and heading due east towards NZ is fueled by a little nostalgia...?

What do you know about Jean Le Cam's trademark "Clack, clack, clack"? Where does it come from? What does he mean?
Let’s go Boris!!

Beautiful, thanks
Great show 👍❤️
Super show!! Why does Jean Le Cam say clac clac clac all the time? Erik from Norway

You mean foil angle of attack? I believe there's some adjustability there otherwise the yachts would be harder to manage.
How do they manage drinking water? Are there mini desalinization devices onboard. Mike from Long Island.
With all the soler panels, how much battery do they carry?
Like any effective army...sailors can bear the ordeal if fed well!
Florian do you know how many days food bags do they take. What happens if they run out.
They get hungry 😮
@@henrikjorhov4354 I suppose they go and catch some fish! ;o))
hi Capt. I'm sure they have supplements just in case!

Jean Le Cam always says "clac-clac-clac." What does that mean?
Which way will Pip take to get back Europe?
What happened to the horns?
clac, clac, clac!
It would be wonderful if English subtitles were provided for those of us who do not speak French.

klak klak klak😂
