    Prior to my purchase of my external air cleaner, I was having problems with my 2015 flstc stalling when coming to a stop, after investigating I discovered the sensor in the throttle body was getting clogged by all the nasty blow bye oil. Cleaning the throttle body and installing the external breather solved my problem. Thank you for another great product.

    Agree 100%, I plumbed mine out past the rear fender and my intake is clean. harley sux. They never got the draining of the top end right. That's really the source oil the oil vapor, or outright oil. AND there is nothing in the cam chest that's right. Their scavenging sux, cam plate sux, pressure relief valve sux. Even if you boost pressure relief valve tension, it will have more oil in the rocker boxes and won't scavenge it. I run S&S TC3 cam plates and oil pumps with a third gerotor with three quarts of oil and don't feed back into the intake. My bike and all of the bikes I've done this to have clean intakes. Sorry, no help for already carboned up pistons from before these changes. That's an entirely new thread on how far to go to clean up that mess.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your dealer was correct on your 2021. The other option is to get a performance air cleaner that comes with an EBS. If you have to take your bike in for warranty work (hope that never happens), then remove the performance air cleaner and reinstall the factory air cleaner.
      That way you get the better performing bike and never need to be concerned about voiding the warranty.

    No B.S!!! Ran two of my bikes with stock set up and then when I went big bore or a rebuild on both after 6 to 8 months of riding each the chambers and the pistons and the intake were all a carbon oily mess! Then after external breathing was installed and the top ends were cleaned I ran both bikes for a year or more. I had to remove exhausts for a pipe swap and the one bike had a common intake seal leak that required a throttle body removal. Both the intake runners, the throttle body and the exhaust runners had NO build-up at all - just a light grey brown colouring from fuel. External breathing whether by kit or by a home job WORKS! No debate! P.S. The tune on each bike never drifted - period!

    This is the same issues cars have, currently the solutions are use synthetic oils, Valvoline seems to be the best because it evaporates the least, use a quality gas that has additives in it Shell seems to sell the best, since it has the most cleaners. Oil catch cans can be beneficial, but they cause their own problems with vacuum (oil breaks down most of the tubing people are using) it causes performance losses and if you do not empty it, it makes the problem WAY worse. The final solution is to take the engine apart and use a walnut blaster and clean the carbon off directly.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Yes and Yes. What most folks do with cars that they are trying to get the best performance out of is use a catch-can. I was just looking at a 4 cylinder with a turbo that produces over 600 RWHP 2 days ago. One of the first things the owner did on it was install a catch-can.

      If you need to take your bike in for warranty work, remove it and return it back to stock before taking it in.

    You failed to mention several very important aspects, it's not only oxygen depleted oily residue it aslo contains 80% condensated water molecules. Also that it fouls the IAT Sensor causing high startup Idle, high revs in lower gears and often causes the engine to die at very low speeds/manouvering. That on early twin cam engines the IAT Sensor was external to the inlet tract so if fouled needed a strip and clean or would not go away. On later bikes the IAT Sensor was moved into the tract and helped to stay clean as washed with fuel. It still gets fouled and although it deals with it it only does so with the asociated issues first mentioned above. Just spotted below you realise you forgot this extremely important information as this is what has customers re visiting the dealers on numerous occassions and being charged for an IAT Sensor clean. £50 or $60 at a time. Fitting of a breather setup and catch can on early Buell X1 Lightening bikes was completely standard practise as those engines produced a ton of goop. Force Engineering developed a breather and venting system as standard to help cope with it but no decent catch cans like you make. Force filters dont look very good on a big harley. I purchased a DK Customs Catch Can its a crying shame are no dealers supplying them in the UK.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you will get an immediate benefit from installing and External Breather System. No more hot, oxygen depleted, oil air going into the combustion chambers will result in more power and a bit cooler running.
      Regarding build up that is already there, as you ride, it will eventually burn off. But there are things you can do to accelerate the process, and to clean out your throttle body (which will not burn off like the deposits on the pistons) and we have a video on that subject here- th-cam.com/video/kCw6coYjsnI/w-d-xo.html

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good questions, thanks for the comment.
      1. External Breather Systems work just as well, & even are a bit more important with the stock air cleaner...because it will help make up for the hotbox that is the stock air cleaner.
      2. It is probably best to buy an aftermarket that comes with an EBS, a bit easier install, and less expensive.
      3. On the 21 Sportys they run a bit lean, so they will definitely run better with a tuner, however, if you leave the exhaust stock and only go with an aftermarket air cleaner, it is not necessary to get a tuner.
      Feel free to call or email to find out which EBS will work with your stock air cleaner.

      I ran a few tanks with Seafoam in the fuel (2oz per gallon) after making the conversion, just to hopefully help clean things up a bit. I don't run at high revs often, but the engine did seem to start running better after a while. It'd only had about 5400 miles on it when I got it, but it sat for a few years and was pretty gummed up. I've also noticed that if I shut the engine off too soon after coming to a stop, it tends to burp oil out of the banjo bolts on my EBS, but if I let it idle down for at least 15-30 seconds before shutting off, it seems less likely to do that.

      It will eventually burn all that crap off once you get an EBS installed. Periodic running at higher RPMs will help it burn off a little faster. Some folks say adding Seafoam or other additives to the fuel speeds it up some. We have never done any testing to see if that is the case.

    I've been debating on getting an external venting system for my screamin eagle 128ci motor. I've been looking at vented dipsticks or external breather for air cleaner. Which would you say is better or can you run them both at the same time?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. The vented dipstick does not eliminate hot, oily, oxygen depleted air from going into the intake. For that you will need an External Breather System.
      However, a vented dipstick is good for relieving excessive crankcase pressure. For most this is not an issue, but with your 128ci you probably do have higher than normal CCP and a vented dipstick will work for that.
      There are no issues with running both, and in your situation, I would run both.

      Only if you have the older oil pump (pre-2020). If you do have the older oil pump and do not want to take the time or money to replace it, the vented transmission cover is a stop-gap (band-aid) until you can get the newer oil pump in order to reduce the chance of sumping.
      If you have a 2020 or newer, you already have the newer oil pump and there is no need for it.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rtbt8185 If it is a stock or Stage I 2022 M8 it is not going to have excessive CC pressure. It will have hot, oily, oxygen depleted air going into the intake, and that is bad. That is the reason to use an External Breather System. The trans vents and dipstick vents do NOT eliminate all the hot, oily, oxygen depleted air from going into the intake. An EBS does eliminate it 100%, and at the same time, it relieves the normal amount of CC pressure that exists.
      Link to EBS options- www.dkcustomproducts.com/all-twin-cam-engines-c76-244.htm
      You can spend the $ on a dipstick or trans vent, but to stop that crap from going into your intake, you will also need an EBS, and the EBS will also relieve that normal amount of pressure, so no need to double spend.
      IF you have an aggressive cam, or higher than OEM compression, that will create some extra CC pressure, then it can be useful to have a trans or dipstick vent And an EBS.

      1. They do know, but they have the EPA to be concerned about.
      2. They do know, but so do the accountants who know that most Harley's don't get ridden more than 10K miles before the warranty is up.

      Does what matter? They both lubricate well. All things being equal, the synthetic will last longer before breaking down and will also run a few degrees cooler.

      Capturing the crankcase oil in a catch-can to make the engine last longer (so less metal has to be used, less manufacturing has to be done, less gas has to be burned) is infinitely better for the environment that getting poor MPG, and trashing an engine. The few ounces of oil out of the catch-can go in the same container as the oil that was changed out, for proper disposal.

    • @DKCustomProducts

      Good Question. The following is an answer from a Service Manager at a Harley Dealership-
      NO... THE EBS WILL NOT VOID THE WARRANTY INSTALL OF AN AFTERMARKET TUNER WILL "BLOCK THE VIN" NO WHERE IN THE GLOBAL WARRANTY DOES IT STATE THAT ALTERING THE BREATHER SYSTEM WHILE LEAVING THE AIR CLEANER IN PLACE TRIGGERS A "VIN BLOCKING EVENT" THE ONLY THING THAT YOU MIGHT GET TAPPED FOR WOULD BE ALTERING AN EMMISSIONS CONTROL DEVICE IF PEOPLE ARE REACHING AND THEN....IT WOULD HAVE TO BE A LIVE PERSON TAKING THE TIME TO REPORT THE ALTERATION TO THE MOTOR COMPANY.

    By installing your EBS on a 2020 Trike, does this void the warranty?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only if you take your bike in for engine warranty work and the tech sees it and notes it. The digital tech cannot detect it.
      I would use the EBS, and if I had to take it in for warranty work I would remove it and put it back stock. Only takes a few minutes to put it back to stock.

      The most power gain can be had from a 636v that you can see at this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/outlaw-hiflow-636v-air-cleaner-system-harley-milwaukee-eight-dk-ac-636v-m8-cs.htm
      Very close behind it is the 828, which you can see at this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/milwaukee-eight-outlaw-hiflow-828-air-cleaner-complete-systems-40.htm
      The 587 and 606 are both round style and very close in power gains to each other. You can see them at this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/air-cleaner-intake-c10-315.htm
      They all (except the 636v) have many different choices on covers for different looks.

      @@hankhamern5456 Cool- the breather kit will keep the crap out of the engine. The vented dipstick will be there to hopefully take care of any temptation the bike might have to sump. We have a video planned where we will be installing some different vented dipsticks on an M8 (that does not have a sumping issue) along with one of our EBS kits. We will be testing how much air is vented via the EBS and how much via the VDS. Should be really interesting.

      Nothing to get anxious about. Thousands upon thousands run their bikes with no EBS and they don't breakdown or blow up. This is something to do that will extend engine life, and also give more power all thru that life. It's a nice mod that will save some $ in the long run and give a nice bump in performance.

    Companies like this thrive off of poorly designed bikes that have historical issues of poor performance, high maintenance costs and piss pour reliability. HD doesn't give a rats ass to build a better bike. To do so would costs money. A lot of money which they don't have. So, just slap together new parts of an old design, paint it shinny colors, then call it a new bike. Rinse & repeat. They've been doing this for decades and they're running out of time. Once the boomers die off (and they are) the new influx of young potential buys would rather buy a Tesla.

      No doubt that companies that make parts for any vehicle, if they do them right, and provide good Customer Service, should do well. My guess is that Ford, Chevy, Honda have far more aftermarket parts available than Harley's.
