I developed severe dry eye suddenly a couple of years ago. The doctor sent me home with a variety of drops that did not help. I also tried the warm compress which provided no relief whatsoever. I then came across an article during my research about vitamin D deficiency and dry eye. I found that interesting as I spend a great deal of time inside and do not get much vitamin D from my diet. I started a vitamin D supplement and my symptoms improved significantly within a week. I added fish oil as well and symptoms have not returned.

Thanks for the tips on relieving dry eye, Doctor. My husband recently got cataract surgery, his second eye is at least a month out of surgery. His eyes bother him so much, both of them--feeling like there's something in them. He saw our eye doctor last week who said everything looks good. He recommended the preservative free drops and warm compresses. I didn't know about the other options for relief that he can try. Thanks again.

You know what helped me? I'd use a combo of two drops. First I'd use a drop off refresh plus, then I'd use a drop off refresh mgd right after. Seemed to help my dry eye more so than any drops alone.
Loved seeing Zelda in the video! My eyes became so blurry for eye drop over use. I literally could not see. It was as if I was looking from under water. The first Doc I saw was actually an optician and told me it was allergies that suddenly came up and I would have to get rid of my cat and carpet. I saw a second Doc who was an ophthalmologist and he immediately recognized that my sclera was super irritated and was causing tears to pool in my eyes. So I really was looking through water. He recommended I discontinue use of any drop with preservatives, which I did and my eyes cleared up.
You have helped me more than my eye surgeon has!!!! I've had dry eyes since my two cataract surgeries. The first one was on June 9, 2021 and July 21, 2021. I've been miserable ever since. He has done some YAG laser on both eyes but they are still dry. I wear either sunglasses or blue blockers at all times, inside and outside. (I sent you this message on another video of yours but not as thorough.) I had punctal plugs put in. I think they worked a little but I still wear the glasses. I put PF Systane in about 3 times a day. They're more annoying than anything. He never mentioned Omega 3's, Moisture Chambers, or the specific eye compresses you have mentioned. His assistant told me to wet a rag and put it in the microwave and place on my eyes twice a day. He also told me to gently massage my eyelides afterwards. Those instructions don't seem to be working much either. 😞 I appreciate all your information and I feel like I have some hope. Oh, and he suggested I see another doctor in his office regarding LipiFlow. You didn't mention that at all. What are your thoughts?
I have been so confused for 7 months and I did not know what this was. I have suffered. Thank you so much for the insight into dry eye disease and some treatments. I thought I was cursed.
I learned a lot from you in this video Dr Allen. I have had dry eyes since my early twenties, so this information is so helpful. Zelda is an adorable co-host by the way!
I wish my eye doctor was even half as knowledgable as you. After my Lasik 4 months ago, I'm suffering from chronic dry eyes and severe 'evening migranes' due to that. Thank you so much for sharing these valuable tips. Glad that I came across this video!
I use Bausch and Lomb eye wash with an eye cup first thing every morning and just before bedtime. It is inexpensive and effective. I also take about a teaspoon of pure olive oil. It has helped my eyes and I no longer have dry skin.
This is such great info. I had completely given up, thinking that I was just going to have to deal with excessive blinking for the rest of my life. But even just a little following along with you and suddenly they feel moist and ready to go.
Just a plain warm compress for at least 10 minutes two times a day for 30 days at least. It kept my dry eye completely away for years at a time. Last time I did it it stayed away for at least six years and if my eyes get irritated, I use Systane hydration PF. Right now I’m trying to figure out why my eyelashes are growing in the direction of the inner corners of my eye instead of the outer corner of my eyes. I think I need to take my own advice and do warm compresses again and keep my eyes cleaner.
Thank you for your videos! I am 59 and started with dry eyes a year ago. I was a contact wearer. I can’t wear contacts anymore. I really appreciate your explanations! I am with an eye doctor now and am using systane and restasis. I’m not finding relief after I also have punctual plugs. But was never told about Omegas! Will try that!
When my eyes start to tear, I use warm compresses and lid wipes and that fixes it within a few days. Also, I use Systane for Dry Eyes several times a day; it's one of the best on the market. It's not that expensive and does not burn my eyes.
Thank you for a great, highly educational video about a problem that must be very common, and one that certainly bothers me. I have been using the Systane eye drops, on your recommendation. I also got a wet wipe warmer. The kind that parents have in their nursery for baby wipes. When I wake up in the morning I grab several warm wipes and I press them over my eyes until all the heat is out of the wipes. It's so soothing. And that is how I clean my eyes in the morning with those wipes after the heat has transferred through my lids. I do feel that it is helping my Meibomian glands to release their oils. And when I want to use an Ocusoft Lid Scrub wet wipe, I put it in my wipe warmer for a half an hour first. That way it's warm. But the ocusoft lid scrub wipes are slightly harsh. Prefer the baby wipes. Those are my tips! Thanks for all you do! Zelda loves you! And so do we! 💕
Cannot wait to try these products and tips. I’ve started to increase and purposely blinking and it it’s making a big difference. I find alcohol can affect my sleep and I can get puffy eyes that often becomes an eye infection. I never knew that a person can sleep without their eyes being fully closed. Thank you so much
I developed dry eyes over 25 years ago, l found I could no longer use mascara eye shadow not even eye brow pencil, my eyes would swell and become extremely sore. I use sustain balance and have done so for many years, I can’t use gels they seem to clog my eyes lids up. I’ve truly missed my eye make up, as I have very fair lashes. I have my eye lashes tinted every three to four weeks, it does sting, plus I’ve had my eyeliner tattoos on, that’s very painful, the tinting does make my eyes sorer when I first have them done. My eyes are sore every day, if I don’t apply eye drops they’re extremely sore. I’d dropped the eye lash cleaning over the years, thanks Dr for reminding me how important cleaning the lashes are. Your videos are the very best, and I’ve watched many. 👍
Thank you for these tips. I keep on getting keratitis (non-contagious) and corneal abrasions due to my dry eyes. I have keratitis again now (doc gave me steroidal eyedrops) and I'm preventing to have this painful experience again by going to the main source (dry eyes).
I'd certainly upvote Zelda, the cat. And her human is also worthy of her: Clear talking, no irritating err...emm... etc, and systematic presentation - as you would expect from a cat lover. :)
Definitely I will try them , probably all of them I suffer from dry eyes , I was diagnosed Sjögren’s syndrome many years ago , my eye doctor only recommended eye drops
THANK YOU!!! Every year I ask my Eye Dr what I can do about my dry eyes & he just hands me the same list of eye drops. I try to explain that these drops aren't working & I feel like he's blowing me off. Unfortunately he's the only Dr in my town that takes my insurance. I'm going to try several of these tips. Specifically the gel drops, moist heat compress & the Omega 3's. 🙏🙏🙏
OMG!!! Your video has been so helpful to me. So many products I would love to try. Thank you, for posting and sharing your knowledge with us. Much appreciated. 😊👍
Thank you so much! I applied your tips and had immediate relief. I think the warm compress was the best advice of all. I made myself one by filling a clean sock with uncooked rice and microwaved it for 1.5 minutes. The rice grains actually have a little moisture in them so the heat was moist. So soothing. Thank you!!
Ty for sharing cuz I just made a sock with rice to warm up for my bottom. My new bike needs a new seat and it hurts so bad. I heat it for about 35-40 sec in microwave. Will use it on my eyes every night too, hope it helps ❤🙏🏾
Thank you so much for this informative video. I have MGD and recently purchased the Bryder Eye Compress, which makes my eyes feel wonderful after each use. I love your kitty in the video too! Thank you for the recommendations for the Omega 3s!
I put that on my lashes after putting ointment in my eye at night. Petroleum-based products in my eye just doesn't seem right but I'm afraid of contamination.
I want to thank for the info on massaging the eye lids I have chronic dry eyes and since massaging morning and night they r so much better. I don't have to use eyes drops nearly as much..so grateful.
Thank you for such useful information. I do have dry eyes issue but that usually happens if I am working on laptop or using my cellphone for a long time. I shall focus on the blinking of my eyes regularly and try doing the blinking exercise at the signal👍🏼
Thank you for your cataract video! Now I understand that I need cataract surgery soon. I put it off because right after I was diagnosed covid hit...now I will make that appointment because it's not going to miraculously disappear.
Really appreciate your detail explanation of dry eyes, and different options. 6 weeks ago I got laser procedure on my bith eyes to prevent narrowing eyes drain. Even though I did not have any issues with my eyes, after I have yearly physical check up. I was send to eye specialist by my GP and to eye surgeon. the treatment was done in 2 minutes. finished all cortisone drops. Now I am having blurry eyes, never before. also feel somethings in my eyes all the time. Specialist prescribed gel drops, he explained that cortisone drops made my vision dry. Currently I am using gels. I will try warm my eyes and will follow the advise "warm patches". Thank you
The Zienna Moisture Chambers: My favorite tip! What a great idea! I'm getting me summa those. (Makes sense to me, as I have found that, in much the same way, mask-wearing for public safety has had the side benefit of moisturizing my nostrils, too.)
It’s great to see so many products that are warm compresses. I wish it was available in my region. Zelda is gorgeous and should be present in all videos
Great video, love the cat too! It's true the Dr. didn't have time to tell me about the humidifier or blinking or the idea of moisture chambers. I needed this video, so thank you very much. The OTC drops are not helping my condition. I will try the new things you mentioned. Thx again!
Thanks Dr.Allenfor this particular video as I am experiencing dry eyes lately. Your tips/recommendations will come in handy for sure. Thanks once again.
I just wanted to thank you so much for this video. This allergy season has been rough, and after rubbing my itchy eyes like crazy about a week and a half ago, one eye stayed bloodshot red. I went to my doctor right after and was prescribed prescription eye drops but, after a week went by nothing had changed. Your suggestion to put a hot pad on my eye and blink a bunch of times got rid on my red eye the next day😭🙌🏻 thank you so much!
Hi! Thank you for all of the dry eye videos and recommendations. I clicked on the amazon links for the Omegas that you recommended but the seem to be unavailable. I went to my eye doctor & she has suggested targeted light treatments, done in her office, to unblock the oil glands. My husband has very dry eyes, too. It would be costly for the light treatments we both need. Have you heard of this, and is it a worthwhile treatment? Preservative free eye drops that she recommends Theazol 3%. Really helps!
Doc, thanks to you, I got some Alaway antihistamine eye drops with no preservatives. They really work great on my dry, itchy eyes. It’s great not needing a prescription for this product anymore. Thanks a lot!

👍Good info. 💞 😔I definitely have dry eyes after having Lasik eye surgery many years ago. I definitely need / can benefit from using a gel or ointment at night but they’re expensive so I started putting a dab of coconut oil over my eye / eye lashes before bed and that helps. I make sure I keep my eyes clean. 💝
My eyes have been dry for a couple years. Thank you as I’ve gotten a lot of good advice from you. My MGD has gotten worse despite hot masks, I recently learned about the preservative free drops. I just can’t afford to spend thousands on Lipiflow. Been wanting to know if there’s an oil or gel I can use at night to soothe them. The lack of moisture seems to put pressure on my eyeball and even make me woozy. I’ll try the ones you recommend. The drops just don’t last long enough for me. You are extremely helpful!!

Hello, thank you for taking the time to make these videos. I chemically burned my eye lids with essential oils (mostly peppermint and winter green blend). I fell asleep with them on my face. My symptoms are swollen lids, light sensitive, dry eyes. Dr said no permanent damage but it would take months to fully heal. I am on a tapered treatment of steriods for 3 weeks( week 1 3drops daily, week 2 two drops daily, week 3 1 drop daily). I am also taking omega supplements. What do you think of the steriod treatment? What do you think of green tea as a treatment (either topically or orally)? Anything else you would recommend for this injury? Help :)
The Bruder mask is great. I've never heard you mention the Blephex treatment. That has worked well for me, as well as the laser treatment to eliminate the dermodex mites on the lower lids. Or maybe you have a video on these. Thanks for the help.
Hey thanks for noticing. Yeah I have used the blephex once on a patient and had some good success. I am hoping to have more dry eye content coming out over the next month or two.
@@DoctorEyeHealth Have you used the laser treatments? I told my dermatologist and the technician has added that to my skin treatment. It works great but only on the lower glands.
Probably will see a change if you add carrots or something to your diet. Most changes have to start from the inside out.
هل شفيت صديقي مو جفاف العين
أنا أيظا عانيت منها بداية العشرينات من عمري و لازالت لخد الساعة
Oh my goodness so much I can do for my dry eyes! And googles- who knew. I will start unwinding at night with the compress. Thank you for sharing.
Starting the forced blinking exercise immediately. And now I've seen how to apply the hygiene wipes properly. Thanks Doc!
Happy to thelp!
Did eye exercise, really helps!
Thank you Doctor !
I wish my eye doctor was even half as knowledgable as you. After my Lasik 4 months ago, I'm suffering from chronic dry eyes and severe 'evening migranes' due to that. Thank you so much for sharing these valuable tips. Glad that I came across this video!
The blinking exercises have been really helpful. Kind of like breathing, most of us are shallow breathers too. Thanks for the helpful tip!
Love your comprehensive approach to dry eyes. Your the best i have seen.
Wow, thank you! That means a lot to hear.
Absolutely agree 👍
Thank you Doctor.
May God bless you and your families more.
Good to know! I appreciate the feedback Ann!
Hey, which systane you use, i saw in market there are 3-4 types, Systane- Original, Systane-ultra, Systane-balance
I'm hard of hearing and would appreciate being able to read what you are saying
One thing the doctor told me was to stop sleeping with the ceiling fan on.
Intentionally blinking more was the most significant thing to do more was the highlight for me in the video... Thanks
Thank you so much
I'm currently using ocuvite for an eye vitamin.
And artificial tears for the eye drops.
Aging is not good or fun.
I have had bad dry eyes for years and years. I really appreciate your information. I often share your site.
Zelda appears to be putting your complete eye closing protocol into action! Great info in the video!
Lol!
Hello, I have severe dry eye and have tried varous eye drops, etc but now I have punctal plugs inserted by my ophthalmologist. Great video
I love the cat. And I will try the eye drops you recommend. I have been using Refresh but willing to try something that might be a little better.
I usually have the AC super cold and also two fans on me. Cause that also be causing the dry eyes?
Organic castor oil applied directly to your eye did wonders for me. It's a little messy but it works well and quickly soothes.
Great tips! Never heard of the hard blink exercises before, going to start that today. Thank you.🌱 Subscribed !
Really appreciate your detail explanation of dry eyes, and different options.
6 weeks ago I got laser procedure on my bith eyes to prevent narrowing eyes drain. Even though I did not have any issues with my eyes, after
I have yearly physical check up.
Zelda is so adorable! Great advice for dry eyes.
Thank you! 😊
I'm so greatful for this video! I soaked a napkin with warm water and ke6it over my eye and it also helped instantly. Thank you so much!!
keep used tea bag on your closed eyes and you will feel the freshness.
@@myuniversestar6634 I do that too! Thank you!!
Your suggestion to put a hot pad on my eye and blink a bunch of times got rid on my red eye the next day😭🙌🏻 thank you so much!
wow!
Home remedies you need to buy at the store. I was wondering if you could just use a warm rag for a warm eye compress.
Hi! Thank you for all of the dry eye videos and recommendations. I clicked on the amazon links for the Omegas that you recommended but the seem to be unavailable. I have a question though for you, I prefer a plant omega 3 vs the fish omega 3. Is there a difference in efficacy for treating dry eyes?? And if not, can you recommend some good options for a plant based omega. Thank you so much.
That was most definitely worth the watch and so practical. Will blink more often and rest the eyes. Thank you Dr Allen
I just found this video and it's awesome! Thank you for sharing practical ways we can treat dry eye. My doc only suggested drops and/or restatsis (sp?) after hearing you I wish you were my Eye Dr. I have had this isssue for over 15yers and appreciate you sharing other options, which I will try. I plan to share this with my cousin and have subscribed to your channel. thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and giving us options to try. I feel you are trustworthy and honest (and very cute ;)
Thanks so much Linda!!! Glad you have found the video and the channel so helpful! I hope the videos continue to help! Any other questions or things I can help with?
@@DoctorEyeHealth can you tell us where all your links you told us are? Nikki
Thank you so much doctor for such informative contents. I just recently got diagnosed with sjogren's and been looking for home remedies that I can try to help with my symptoms. The best part of this video is about the eye chambers. And yes your cat is too cute haha 😍
This is excellent!
I've developed dry eyes after double cararact surgery , plus an ND in one eye.
I have to try some of your recommendations as I'm struggling with my vision 😳
👍Good info. 💞
😔I definitely have dry eyes after having Lasik eye surgery many years ago. I definitely need / can benefit from using a gel or ointment at night but they’re expensive so I started putting a dab of coconut oil over my eye / eye lashes before bed and that helps. I make sure I keep my eyes clean. 💝
0.
Thank you for all your information. Love the kitty he’s closing his eyes as you’re talking about exercise of closing and opening your eyes.
A video about Dry Eye in association with Bell's Palsy would be appreciated.
I love the way you present.-you are adorable!!!
Thank you so much Ruby! I appreciate that!
It’s funny how his cat is sleeping or maybe practicing closing his eyes haha omg so funny 😂
Hahaha😂😂😂 hilarious
Women and cats...grow up girls
The cat is just closing its eyes 😐
Meditating. Oooommmmm
I noticed that too. Cat's are wise. Close your eyes often.
I took omega 3 for years but I had no idea that is also good for the eyes! Thank you doctor! Love your kitty!
Thank you for the comment Therese! I hope your eyes start to feel better. (Lipiflow is expensive)
Try theratears gel.
Thank you! BTW we should also learn from Zelda, she closes her eyes completely to relax
That's true!
Your cat is all the proof one needs that you are a very good person.
Sorry but that is completely stupid.
Hitler had a dog that loved him
@@alexisjuillard4816 dogs are different. Cats feel energy and only stay in the presence of people with high vibration energy.
@@alexisjuillard4816 dogs will love whoever their owner is
@@alenajade27 high vibration energy has no meaning. I’m a physicist if you can explain it in any way i’m all ears but no energy is not a thing it doesn’t exist. It’s a difference in states a number.
Dogs will not love a person who treats them bad they will obey by fear.
Cats like people for their own reasons, like humans but more selfish. I they sense who will do what sure but that’s just a sign of emotional intelligence.
My grandma is a very nasty person, very mean to the core one of her cats doesn’t like her but the rest love her. Het dogs do not like her believe me, they avoid her as much as possible
His eyes are pretty and I love cats 😻
My favorite part of this video is ALL OF IT! Thank you for all of this valuable information. God Bless you.
8:45 : Zelda the eye doctor's assist demonstrates a really long blink that lasts for the remaining 7 minutes of the video.
Oh my God, this cat is something else! And her Master is not too bad either. Good advice. My dry eye syndrome is pretty bad. I am on prescription drops.
Thanks for explaining issues and remedies that my optometrist did not do well.
Help :)
Was not aware of the oil factor. Thanks so much.
I guess it kills the mites. When I have a blephex treatment, the lower lids are almost clear of debris. Your videos are really helpful. I've shared them with friends who have the same problems. I'm going to try the ilux next.
15 minutes of great information. thank you
can you talk about treatment for dark circles either home remedies or base clinics.
Wow...I honestly just shot that video today! Coming soon!
Chamoile tea , cold bags are excellent for circles
Flaxseed helped me really good! I can read without watering from bits or stratchy eyes..
