      My optometrist advised me to take Omega 3 because I have very dry eyes due to Sjögren’s Disease. I am honestly not sure if it’s helping or not. I have been taking it for several months now. I just attended a webinar for Sjögren’s patients and one of the rheumatologists presenting stated that there are no studies/evidence indicating that omega 3 helps with dry eyes (due to Sjögren’s). She noted a study that was in fact a negative study. Would you please consider doing a video for Sjögren’s patients ? It is a multi system, progressive illness and the second most common autoimmune disease in North America affecting approximately 1% of the population with at least 3 million Americans currently undiagnosed. Many people with severe dry eyes may have Sjögren’s and not know it. It would be helpful to have your expert knowledge re treatments that may be helpful specifically for the eye manifestations of this disease. Your consideration would be appreciated. Thank you!

    After studying and suffering from dry eye, I understood that dry eyes is not an eye disease,its disease related to inflammation which can be due to viral infections, immune related issues, or related to gut, work on underlying causes, any eye drop, warm compress etc are short term relief but nothing changes without dealing with underlying cause

    Just wanted me make a comment about dry eyes…..I am a retired hospital nurse and have worn contact lenses for 56 years ( since I was fourteen) . I have found that when I am well hydrated with pure drinking water …..……have purposely hydrated at designated times during the day ( like taking a dose of life -saving medicine!) , I do not have dry eyes and my contact lenses remain comfortable from sunup to ( well past) sundown. In my decades of nursing, I never had to wear my glasses once…….as long as I was well hydrated!!! I discovered the importance of drinking water to make the eyes moist ! Just wanted to share!

    • @bauman11

    I had dry eyes for years. I saw top ophthalmologist at the medical school and the doctor asked me if had sinus surgery because he noticed many patients with dry eyes had sinus surgery. I did have sinus surgery! I had tried 25 different eye drops, I did warm compresses, the tea tree eyelid wash and increased my Omega 3 still had dry eyes! We went to this health spa signed up for three day water fast on alkaline water to induce autophagy. I noticed my dry eyes went away! I talked to my ND about it later and he put me on an alkalizing formula that is mixed in water and told me to increase my water intake as well and that worked I was cured.

    A quick story of success! My little rescue dog (maybe about 4 yrs old or so) had suffered abuse and was near death from starvation when we got him 2 yrs ago. He gained weight and was very healthy until one month ago when suddenly he got those cataract blue toned eyes and started declining! It came out of nowhere. He was stumbling and very emotionally down due to abruptly not being his formerly active self. I was so upset, so shocked by this change. I suspect it was poor nutrition over the yrs before we got him and poor breeding. I read a book by Dr Pitcairn a holistic vet who said to put cod liver oil in his eyes along with salt water solution and add cod liver oil in his food. Well you wouldnt believe me if I told you how fantastic these methods have worked to bring our little dog into a state of health again! I am still blown away by the healing power of cod liver oil. Another interesting piece is that he always had issues with appetite - it came and went. Now that we put a teaspoon of cod liver oil in his food, he is so excited about eating. I know that with genetic eye issues these remedies dont alway work and maybe not forever, I am not sure. But what a wonderful turn of events using cod liver oil. I am currently adding it to my own routine to improve my health. Cant say enough about cod liver oil.

    Many specialists, lots of medical debt, and all I'm told about losing 60% of my vision in one eye is "Well, go home and keep an eye on it". That felt extremely cruel. Eight months later, my eyes hurt constantly, & all I know is I have optic neuritis, but having a name does not help.
    Thank you for giving me something to try. I'm scared and felt hopeless. I've had high cholesterol for the first time in my life (odd for a vegan!), so I tried tuna, saw no change. Thank you for plant based options.

Nevertheless, taking curcumin, good brand, 3x a day will help quenching the destructive fire in your body. I know from my own experience.

      I'd suggest a thick eye ointment that provides a barrier over your eyes while you sleep so that they don't stick in the morning. I use drops during the day but they are not enough to help at night so I use an ointment. It's fiddly to put in and makes eye sight blurry for a little bit after application but you'll be sleeping so that's fine. I don't wake up with sticking eye lids anymore. I get mine from Amazon as the one my optician suggested is apparently out of stock everywhere (lacri lube) so I had to find an alternative. I live in England. Good luck.

    There's a fine line between supplementation and inviting other unintended and unwelcome consequences. In the case of omega-3 fatty acids, new research, several studies in fact, link omega-3 to increased levels of cardiac dysrhythmias in some patients. I'm not suggesting that one should therefore not supplement with fish and other oils, say walnuts, but to do so with a firm clarity and understanding of other factors of oneself that might mean taking it slow and easy. Consulting with one's primary physician, for example, might be a great first step to ensure you're not doing yourself any harm.

    Hi doctor,
    I had lasik done 5 months ago and still suffer from severely dry eye. I take omega 3s, use eye drops every hour-2 hours, do warm compresses, etc and I’m still dealing with this awful dry eye. It seems to be okay in the morning - mid afternoon and then the dryness really kicks in. Is this something I will have to live with forever? :((

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey thanks for sharing, Alyson. That is really tough. As I have discussed in a previous livestream/video about dry eye after lasik, lasik can sever the corneal nerves and amplify dryness. It can also change the way the eye heals itself. I have helped many people improve their dryness post lasik, but it is something that may never be "cured". But hopefully with treatments, you and your doctors can get the symptoms under control and manage it at a level where you won't suffer. Are your doctors also putting you on any medications or recommending any procedures?

    I'm not convinced omega-6 is per se inflammatory though. For sure saturated and trans fats are, but it really seems like eating unsaturated fats, including omega-6, in the context of an unprocessed diet is healthy. Oh wow! Great to hear you have found some relief with the Optimel Manuka honey drops, I have not read much about them helping floaters, but either way I am happy to hear it. Omega 3 supplements have been shown in some studies to contribute to bleeding, however, newer research supports that the increased bleeding risk has to do with the TYPE of omega 3 supplements (because of the processing). A tryglyceride form of omega 3 is not supposed to contribute to bleeding risk. But, due to your other systemic issues and risk, best to ask your PCP if they have heard of the Tryglyceride forms of omega 3 vs ethyl ester forms in regards to bleeding risk and if they can confirm it and what they think will be best/safest for you. But most surgeons do not worry about omega 3s before surgery because the bleeding risk of omega 3s has largely been disproven.

    Bonjour, est-ce que les omégas 3 réduisent l'inflammation des glandes salivaires ? Merci !

      If youre older person, like myself the dry mouth and dry eyes MAY BE related to autoimmune processes in the body ( inflammation) and then the vit. D3 and omega3 are very helpful.

    I read somethings about Omega 3, and looked into Cod Liver Oil. I tried capsules with lemon, which seemed to help until I ran out. Just getting more today. I also looked into sluggish gall bladder, and am looking at whether bile supplement might help...

    Hi doctor.. i don't have oil glands.. what can i do in this case.. If you have a video explaining this case😢

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  ปีที่แล้ว

      As in you have had meibography scans and there are no glands left? That is a very difficult case. Once the glands are fully gone, there may be no way to get natural oils on the tearfilm and eye drop supplements may be required, especially ones that have an oil component to them. Such as Optase MGD, Retaine MGD, Systane Balance/complete. Etc. What has your doctor recommended for treatment?

    Very helpful. Thanks Doc. I get lax on my fish oil. Ik it helps I can tell when I take it. I take 2 kinds, cod liver oil, Engelvaer is the brand and fish oil, can’t remember name but it’s pretty common blue/white label. I probably take at least 3000. No burps for me. But I now know I need to stick with it for at least 3 months. Was diagnosed with MGD pretty bad in my left eye

    hi doc, i know it's technically not an eye problem but more on neurology, do you got anything for visual snow? mine isn't as severe as some of the other cases, i'm able to live a fully normal life. but the photosensitivity and nyctalopia can be frustrating at times. and as an astronomy lover it really sucks. the statics gets worse when it's dark, and sometimes i'd mistake static with stars. it's usually distinguishable but it does happen. i know it's a bit of a far reach since the disorder is still barely researched, and it's still a neurological condition after all, but at this point, i really don't know who else to reach for

      Twitches are usually caused by insufficient magnesium and they say most of us don't get enough even though it's in lots of fruits & veggies. It can cause all kinds of symptoms! I sleep much deeper since I started taking it morning & evening. 😊
      (Mag glycinate in the eve. Mag maleate in the a.m. for energy.)
