Here's another one, actually from my cornea specialist. During the warmer months, avoid sleeping close to an open window. The reason for this is that a considerable percentage of dry eye results from allergies (I happen to be an example). When you sleep close to an open window, environmental allergens can come in and cause inflammation that can reduce your tear production, according to my doctor. I had terrible dry eye and was tested for allergies, then got immunotherapy (under the tongue, not injections). After about a year, my dry eye dramatically resolved and now hardly have any issues now for last 7 years. If you have difficult to treat dry eye, and think you have allergies of some sort, get tested for allergies by an allergist.

I've been using Restasis and liquid tears as prescribed. Still having major issues. I have hypothyroid. I've been referred to a dry eye specialist to rest further. Can't get an appointment until July but I'm willing to wait. Everything you describe is me and my eyes. Thanks for this info. Looking forward to your next video.

I'm in a dry eye clinic. Only help beyond warm eye compresses was expensive eye drops. So I'm still using tears naturally, and warm compresses. Dry eye clinic suggests expensive eye compresses, and expensive drops. But admit nothing can be done.

Was prescribed eye drops …I went to pick up even though it was a generic I had to leave it because it was $500.00. It’s so bad the eye dr. said my eye is dry only after 2 seconds after blinking when a normality it would be 10. I make to much to get it free or a discount but not enough to cover the cost unless I want to live under a bridge. Pretty sad for someone who worked for the government since the age of nineteen.

What's the name of the dry eye drops? So curious to read about it. Sorry for your treatment difficulty. I haven't had an eye exam in over 7 years. Right now my dry eye is acting up something terrible.
Now I can't even open my glued shut eyes in the morning for a couple seconds or more.
@ White Heart Contact the manufacturer directly. You should be given a discount card to use instead of using your insurance company or the manufacturer should have a special program for people no matter of their income level. The manufacturer doesn't want you to use any other product but theirs. Use that to your advantage. Good luck.
White heart I found your story amazing do you live in the USA that is very pricy we get those drops here in Australia for I think $20 and $5 if on a pension good luck I also have dry eyes it’s awful.
@M49 If he lives in the US, he probably has to meet a deductible before the insurance company will pay. We, in the US pay astronomical prices for medications as we pay for all of the research and development. We are not allowed to get medications from other countries legally.

Very informative video - thank you! I am waiting on a dry eye formulation from TheraTears but I see it doesn't list GLA in the ingredients. Would you suggest I get an additional GLA supplement? Dry eye content due to head injury - trauma would be interesting too, esp.
as so many people do not know that the head traumas that many get in
sports, esp. as a youth then can cause the whole dry eye issues.
Also I learned that if people have had conjunctivitis infection(s), especially
foreign country tropical strains either bacterial or viral, that this very often shows
itself later in one's years and proves to be chronic conjunctival injection.
My eye surgeon in Canada is both US and Canada certified so I feel lucky to have found her.
Have learned so much and wish all people had access to all these facts.

Can you discuss the common reasons for red eyes, Doctor? My eyes seem to always be red or have some semblance of redness. I’ve cut back on rubbing them and my allergies are in tact. Would love to hear your thoughts on general reasons for red eyes! Thank you for this information as usual!

I drink loads of water and always get dry eyes my sodium levels aren’t that high. Eyes are very tricky to understand. I think sleep deprivation does play a part with eye Issues.
It really can be hard to find the underlying issue. Sleep deprivation is harmful in so many areas to the body. Please try and get some rest. Thank you so much for being here!

Do you know a moisturizer I can use around my eyes that will not irritate my eyes and ok for contact lenses. Castor oil at night is the Only thing I can use … so far 🙏

Thank you so much for the interesting info ! My eye doctor told me I have dry eye. I have tried the preservative free, omega-3 eyedrops. But they burn my eyes really bad. Are there any dry eye eyedrops that you would recommend? When I tried to take the supplements, you mentioned, they upset my stomach really badly. Also, I cried today and my eyes are still puffy. Nearly 12 hours later. I cried at 5 AM and it is now 4 PM. I can tell that these eyebags are going to stick around. I have tried Massage. I have tried everything. Please help me figure out how to get rid of these horrible, puffy eye bags because they make me feel so tired.I try not to cry. I don’t cry often. But when I do, the eyebags last for days. Sometimes months.

Dr. Berg recommended cod liver oil because it has 3 components Vitamin A, Vitamin D and Omega 3
You don't mention myobiome gland disfunction. When there aren't enough oils from oil ducts coating the eyes it results in dry eyes. It is vital to address the root cause.

I was diagnosed as a case of Trachoma last year n concretions were removed from both eyes. With excessive watering eyes.
I had taken Hypomellise, XLHA, RESTASIS with moxi LP eye drops, oral doxycycline for 3 months but nothing worked. Again I'm having concretions & again removed but I'm fed up from this. Treating dr saying me this is because of inflammatory condition.
Euphrasia eye drops and allium cepa, rhus toxico (homeopathy medicine) only worked and decreased the watery discharge. I also had seasonal allergic conjunctivitis since childhood.

One Cornea specialist doctor advised for Occuloplastic surgeon opinion for surgical management of adhesions & one Cornea specialist doctor clearly refused for any surgical management and put me on Prednisolone 1%eye drops, CMC, Cyclosporine 1% & Timolol eye drops.

Omega 3s are in Fish oils, but I'm allergic so my eye Dr last week recommended flax seed oil. Yes you can spend tons for the fanciest brands, I can't afford those, I bought nature made brand at Walmart and am trying flax seed oil. Plus reallybtrying the warm compresses.
I would like to add Omega 7 Sea Buckthorn oil which does wonders!

Dr i have used preservative drops j unknowingly just to refresh eyes from tiredness now im worried about that it could cause any damage to eye or tear firm. I used it for 5 to 6 days. Dr pls tell me it could cause any damage to me if it happens any damage how to cure from it.
This is unrelated to the video. I got hit in the left eye by a mini rubber basketball when playing with the kids.I saw a flash.I immediately applied ice and rested. I have no headache,can wear contacts,can see well and no flashes now. Should I go to an opthamologist still? I can only feel the impact or maybe imagining it and a floater or so.

I was diagnosed 6 months ago with MGD. My eyes feel okay most of the day and then starting at about 6PM they get very dry. I wake up every morning with my eyeball stuck to my eyelid and it's been awful. The "lifetime" diagnosis devastated me. I'm now taking Algae based Omega's, Natural Vit. C, AREDS supplement for eyes, Maqui powder 1/2 tsp a day, Spirulina, Vit. D, zinc.. and a few other supplements. I'm doing warm compresses at night and manual expression as well as Systane Complete PF drops, daily contacts no more than 3-4 hours a day or no contacts at all. I'm doing everything I can to avoid a lifetime of medicated eye drops such as Restasis. My doctor told me that Restasis has no side effects... but it is a medication and I"ve read that it can affect kidney function. Do you have any recommendation for anything else that I can do? Is this truly a lifetime of these symptoms or can it improve or go away?

The best thing I've found is geranylgernaniol with ataxanthin and triglyceride fish oil and making sure I have enough salt, and potassium foods in the diet.

@@DrRupaWong lately though and maybe you may have reccomendation. I've been taking astronomical amounts of lumbrokinase and serrapeptase, and the dry eyes still seem to occur in the morning. So I've been opting for ovidine eye drops. And by large doses I mean like 120,000 units times 5 in the morning. 5 in the morning and 5 in the evening. I used to get dizzy but that's disapated almost entirely. It's just the dry eyes in the morning that's been a bit hard to overcome. I might try vitamin C as an odd remedy because when I brush my teeth it bleeds a bit. I couldnt find studies on the enzymes and vitamin c but i think theres a correlation. This past year of doing extreme doses my workouts are better, my blood pressure is that of a teenager, and a fee tiny scars on my hands have disappeared for the first time. If I stop supplementation within a few days the dry eyes completely turn back to normal. Any thoughts on such a convoluted subject?

How about the food that we get from the grocery store. By the time it goes from the garden to you is dried out. Food does not stay in the Sun and get the vitamins in it. So what's your getting is food with no vitamins in it. Food stay in transit too much. And the chemicals in the air is so bad. Look at Hawaii and food you get from the store is been intrinsic from the boxcar coming to you and it's dried out.

@@medhikasingh6327 apparently it's not the water from crying but the oil glands that create the lubrication, and if those glands get clogged up the oil drys up for good. I make it a habit now to squeeze/hard blink my eyes throughout the day to get the oil out of the oil ducts, and that has helped tremendously.

One of our friends suggested soaking chia seeds in water for about 2 hours and gulping that mix down as a home remedy for dry eyes. Is that one you've heard of? And is that a popular or effective remedy?

Actually I'm a forty-three-year-old gentleman and I'm having a dry eye situation as of now I get burning and hazy vision it always tends to act up at night but then clear up in the day I wonder if artificial tears help.
Yes they are cheap and work when used often. Try the nightly warm compresses to the upper eyes to stimulate the myeoblin glands that oils your eyes.
My eyes are so itchy . I am now on a steroid drop ????

Thank you for this! I’ve been suffering with dry eye and I have blocked glands which definitely don’t help, need to focus on hydration for sure,

In my work they recently switched the lights and they are so so bright it gives me a sore head even thinking about them, do you have any suggestions on what I could do? I’m currently putting paper up on the covid screens to try block some of it out, everyone thinks I’m crazy lol but they really give me migraines which it’s probably linked with the dry eye
Lauren. What test did you have to find that you have a blocked glands I think I have that I have I have seen a number of doctors in a year all I get is eye drops
@@acasiadominguez6883 I don’t think you need a test, usually if you have dry eyes you may have blocked glands, as when these are blocked it stops the oil from protecting your eyes/ stopping your tears from evaporating so quickly. I’d recommend food sources of omega 3s, heat masks can help too with lid massages, look on TH-cam for more info, hope this helps!

@@marymcghee3023 For one it's distracting and it's also not necessary. We don't talk like that in real life with people.
Natural remedies are not only inexpensive but they work! One remedy I use is castor oil @ night when they are most susceptible to dryness. It also helps me sleep. 🧓
