Oh boy... down the rabbit hole again. This time with the ultimate form of the Gaplant TR-5 Hrairoo, aka the Hrairoo Rah-II with a pair of large arms and shields strapped to its already-heavy shoulders. This kit is not even less than the sum of its parts, as while the separate components range from serviceable to great, combining them together results in a floppy kit that's an absolute ball-ache to tolerate, never mind to actually pose. Oh wait, you can't pose it because the extra supports it needs go into the arms. What's worse? This costs as much as the average MG kit.

The leftover parts rage was hilarious and warranted 😂 Definitely more of a brick like its sibling the TR-1 Hazel Rah II than something poseable, but still a rad design. Nice of Bandai to include some bases to hold up the extra weight on the shoulders!
I mean, the HG TR-1 Hazel Rah Second Form at least has balanced weight distribution and doesn't feel nearly as bad to pose at all. And yes, while there are stands to hold the shoulders up, they're still not a perfect solution as they're still at the mercy of the shoulder's weight. I don't believe there's any perfect fix for that unfortunately, not unless they redo the shoulder joints completely
imo they couldve molded new static shoulder joints specifically for the gigantic arm version

its not even like we actually need them to make all the of the full cowl.
they just need to make the bottom booster, the shield w/ mask, and weapons, and then they can slap it on the dark scheme dantalion to make it completely different. even it's base gunblade can be dual wielded in canon, so we can mix and match it with the previous release without left overs or unecessary duplicates.
@@deadlypedestrian dantalion got a new color scheme, so a reskin as well with the other boosters, its weapons and a reprint of dantalion would be much appreciated.

It's astonishing how far out of their way they went to avoid updating this goddamn kit.
I can't believe the "shove a 2mm strip of pla into the drum frame for a MG Kit shoulder adapter" we all made up on a whim was *cannonized.*

I don't care that they didn't update this kit like they did the Rick Dias. However, the way they went about fixing the guaranteed issues the GAU would bring about is like sticking on a half-sticky plaster. And like you said, they completely avoided using the new Hrududu II binders from wanting to make do with the stuff they already have, and rework the mold for the original ones. This is just such a lazy release that's not worth high-end MG money.
Damn this is the first time I've seen you rage on video. And from what's I've seen it's entirely justified.
It's an exaggerated bit, so I'm not actually angry, but the frustration is genuine there.
The comical rage during the parts breakdown/verdict made me chuckle X3

Best to keep in mind that I was acting there, fueled by my real frustrations for this kit. IRL it takes more to really make me flip out.
I love the TR-5 Hrairoo design. One of my most favorite. I was excited when they announced this kit, but I knew from the get go that no matter what, that old kit was gonna be trouble. It'll probably be one of my most dedicated projects whenever I get around to it, but for now, into the backlog
I mean, the old kit is decent even by today's standards (despite what the skeleton thinks). It's just not made to withstand THIS much weight, and the way they decided to support them doesn't work at all and restricts posing options fully
@@mj2005gundam MGK isn’t the best reviewer when it comes to older kits. This was an easy cash grab by Bandai. Honestly, I didn’t expect more out of it than looking like the artwork and it can pull that off, but yeah, wish they retooled it a bit more to handle the weight
Literally 4 More runners and you could have built 2 Hazel customs
Granted, there are some parts that are gated away like the backpack, but you're not wrong
Given that I actively planned to use this kit for custom work, all those extra parts are real nice to see. I haven’t opened mine yet, so I’m glad this popped into my recommendations
The extra parts are good for custom builders, sure. But good luck finding the polycaps to make them work. Granted, you can use them to make half the TR-1 parts usable, but still, these older polycaps aren't the easiest things to find left over.
@@mj2005gundam true, that is a problem for newer builders who want to use the parts unmodified, but I plan on doing plenty of that, and I've been building kits for two decades, so I've actually got a decent collection of polycaps in general
half the price of the AoZ kits is just because of the spare parts
Hey, at least the most egregious case before this, the TR-1 Hazel Owsla GAU, has leftovers that are relevant to the main kit, albeit unusable. This kit literally borrowed two of the same halves of the HG Hazel just for the Shield Boosters, which is absolutely ridiculous

Toss in irrelevant leftovers just for 2 shields, and turn the recording session into a CBT session.

If I ever get my hands on original Gaplant TR-5, I'm building it as a standard version and use the leftover parts for custom builds.

I think this is the first time I've seen MJ get this angry about specific leftover parts that are a whole bunch of left over parts but none of them are useful for the main kit...... Either we're gonna die or he's gonna go full Hulk and destroy everyone lol. In the end it looks nice for a display but I don't really think of anything more positive to say about it other than the fact that at least it looks cool as a plane. Great job!
It's a bit, so I didn't actually feel angry while recording that. The frustration is real though, with all of those parts left over that are completely irrelevant to the TR-5, as opposed to the TR-1 Gigantic Arms where at least there's some relevance to the parts included. Sure, this kit is a display piece, but there's nothing else that's good about this version. Just get the original or the purple one if you want a TR-5.
The outrage transition on the leftover part escalates too perfect! 🤣🤣 another exquisite review, man 👏 the leftover becomes my sole reason on not getting any kits from this lore..
However, out of all hg gunplas from this line, which one do you see to have the least amount of leftovers?
I'm glad you like the outrage bit. It would take me a lot more to actually tip me over the edge IRL, but I'm glad you like it.
Out of the kits in the HG AoZ series, the ones with the least amount of leftovers would of course be the root kits like the GM Quel, TR-1 Hazel Custom/Hazel II, TR-5 Hrairoo, and TR-6 Woundwort.
As immobile as the head is, I kinda like it. And a nice look transformation.

You have a re-release that's pretty good, I think the limited articulation in the waist and legs make for a good base for the Gigantic Arm unit, meaning all that you would to make the base more solid. Is REINFORCED SHOULDERS! Which they clearly haven't done. We could've gotten something similar to the HG Rick Dias, where the base kit was softly updated, but like EVERY Titans model. If it ain't the Gundam MK-II or related or if it ain't related to AoZ directly. You're just out of luck...
I would one day love to see my favorite Titan MS, the Gabthley get something! But my space grasshopper is forever stuck with an outdated, toothpick using HG.
I really didn't much care that the base kit didn't get a significant update, it's good enough for what it is. However, they really should've reinforced the shoulders and engineered new Shield Boosters for this version in particular. Not only would that have made the issues easier to deal with, but also gave them standalone Shield Booster molds they can abuse to their hearts content. I really cannot recommend that anyone get this besides if the looks really interest you or looking for parts fodder
the frustration is real. i avoided it because its just too expensive so i only got the titans colour one to replace the old tr-5 that i gave away to my brother (which also come with all parts to turn it into tr-5 hrairoo). and yes the soft kps makes the shoulder joint flex too much i just glued the halves together
good idea, that might also avoid that part breaking itself right there.

this release pretty much cemented they have zero intention to fully revise the old kit
I personally don't much care they didn't do a full revive of the kit. Hell, even if they'd given it the HG Rick Dias treatment, it still won't rustle my feathers as the old mold did what it needed to for the Gaplant. However, the fact that they decided to not address the inevitable weight issues at the core (i.e. fortifying the shoulders) is what ruins this kit for me. The core unit is fine, like I've said in the end; it's just the Gigantic Arms and huge number of irrelevant leftovers that makes this package problematic for everyone.
There is something about AoZ mobile suits that always leave me wondering, why do they have red fingertips, don't get me wrong, they look absolutely fabulous, but is there a lore reason for it. Or is it there just for aesthetics.
They are sensors.
I don't know what they're for, but I like doing a bit of nail salon work on these kits

i hate how bandai has been cheeping out in recent years and just refuses to make updated versions of kits, even if they would sell way better.
Personally, I don't care that they didn't give this kit a 1.5 or Revive treatment. But how ineffectively they tried to band-aid the inevitable weight issues and steal parts directly from the TR-1 for the Shield Boosters instead of making their own is just unfathomable
I get the feeling I'd be better off with the actual Psycho Gundam HG or the other larger suits like Baund Doc and Destroy Gundam over this kit since the large arms really don't seem to work with smaller kits
The Psycho Gundam HG is a bit of a dated build, but it’s great value for the price since you get such a huge kit. And if you really feel like it, the Gigantic Arms from both this and the Hazel GAU are compatible with it, so you could give it more posable arms at the cost of the transformation.
Also if you can get the Psycho GM off of P-Bandai at its MSRP, I’d grab that because it comes with the GM head and still includes all the Psycho Gundam runners, stickers, and a PS faux polycap so you can assemble the Psycho Gundam in red if you prefer the Gundam head.
I think I'd go for the original TR-5 Hrairoo model kit, cause this one looks too complicated to build, let alone, as you said, do any posses.
Either that or shell out for the purple one

The leftover parts were absurd, thought none can top off Gundam Shining Break's leftovers but here i am seeing it completely being topped off
Unless you have certain arts and polycaps, it is not possible to create another S-Break from the extra parts
At least the Shining Break's leftovers can be used as backups for itself. The ones in this kit, I wonder how you're gonna use them on this kit at all...

At least the leave over action base part is useful. But those extra parts for shield really leave a bad taste.
Might as bloody well mention those as well, as those add to the terrible leftover count. Granted, those clamps are only as useful as the leftover Gaplant parts, but still
Ur anger is justified. I mean 2 half chest and all those extraparts this 30mm we cant build something out of them without proper polycaps which i found of i still havent found any that fits AOZ leftovers
Even if you maximize the use of the leftovers, at most you're only able to get half of the TR-1 parts to work.

Put this into perspective. It's 6500 yen excluding tax. You can get kits like the MG Zeta Ver Ka with that money, or MG Narrative Gundam C-Packs Ver Ka for slightly more.
Bandai: "Due to difficulty of acquiring materials for new retail gunpla kits, we're forced to release new kits as P-Bandai and Gundam Base exclusives, thank you for understanding."
Also Bandai: *wastes all the plastic on AoZ runners just for one weapon
This is where all the plastic has went. I didn't particularly mind in the previous releases as at least all the parts were relevant to the kit they're included with, be it relevant or not. This one however, is just ridiculous
@@mj2005gundam Yeah, but we shouldn't forget that this is the same company who spent about 130 mln USD on the Metaverse project that only a handful of American and Japanese regions can access. It's like they have the same spending habits as gunpla fans, only tad bit worse.

The giant arms are completely new, coming from a Hazel that released in 2023 iirc? Or might've been 2022. Gigantic Arms unit Hazel, it'll appear if you search that up.

Advance of Zeta lore is sorta all over the place, so just think wherever you want where the arms themselves came from lmao. And yes, there are actually giant leg units, it's as dumb as it might sound, yet kinda works??? It's so bizarre.
I don't think they manufactured the full Psycho when they did this stuff. They just threw on a pair of gigantic arms because "Why not?". Also, look at the TR-6 Woundwort Gigantic Mode, and you'll get your Gigantic Legs.

they molded a new left fist (which is completely unnecessary) but didnt bother making a new right trigger hand that could hold the rifle better. i had to mod mine by extending the wrist peg at an angle so it can properly tuck the rifle under its armpits
It's an absolute waste of plastic, with all of those parts being unusable on the TR-5 even if you tried. Even if you do, good luck finding the polycaps to make them usable.
Its an Exbawks Hueg kit, too bad the design is half-assed. If only Bandai release Inle kit...
