The Mini 3 Pro is a little badass. I love mine. Something it doesn't get nearly enough credit for is how good the algorithm is when recording in auto mode. I was skeptical at first, but it does an excellent job at maintaining the right shutter speed to frame rate ratio. I trust it so much now that I don't have the histogram on the display, no warning stripes, and other than a UV filter to protect the lens, the only ND filter I've had to use is an ND32 for when it's really sunny. I went back and forth between the 32 and 64. The difference was nominal, but the 32 was the most consistent. The wind issue is something I've never had to deal with. It can be so stagnant here in Texas, but that's something I want to do some testing with a little more. The only thing that I really wish this drone came with standard was better landing gear like what you have on yours. I'm not the biggest fan of hand release and capture, but I'll do it if needed. Having those extenders would be nice, though.

Yep! The leg extensions are handy!

Hi. Hoping you're still responding to old videos. I also noticed the extensions right off. Are these the PGYTECH landing gear extensions? They look much more stable out on the ends of the arms vs the regular foldable legs that are in close to the body on other landing gears. I am about to purchase a Mini 3 Pro and have been watching some videos. Another of your videos comparing the regular 3 to the Pro was one of the main deciding factors to get the Pro. My main question, though, is with these leg extensions, (Or any added landing gear) does it put the drone over the 249 gram limit? Would you "legally" have to register it with the FAA if you installed them? I can see a high probability of ground contact with the props on landing and takeoff without them.

The only thing that bothers me about it is the props. I wish it had the quick snap props like the bigger dji drones. Hate the screws. Other than that everything is great about it. I don't have a problem with it not having side avoidance sensors. I don't rely on the collision avoidance sensors. I just make sure I don't fly into stuff. If you must have the sensors all around your drone then you don't trust your piloting skills.

Thanks for the review. Just 2 comments if I may (just my take for what it is worth): 1) I hear you with regard to high wind conditions, but considering the weight of the drone, which is one of the main reason I bought this drone, I fully expected that to be the case and so I think it is a bit of an unfair criticism. Of course it is easy for me to say that as I also have a Mavic 3 which is very decent in high winds. 2) Fair comment on the fixed aperture but I don’t agree that we are stuck with the 180 degrees shutter rule in order to ensure a “cinematic feel”. I believe this is one of the biggest misconception in videography. Famous film directors like Steven Spielberg and Stanley Kubrick for examples, have purposely broken that rule in some of their movies. Yet I don’t think too many people are complaining that their movies are not cinematic enough. Whenever possible it is a good idea to use the 180 degrees shutter rule, but that doesn’t mean that we are stuck with it.

As a Part 107 Certified Pilot in the USA and investing my post retirement time in the sUAS regulatory space, as well as operating a drone flight school this is my main problem with the Mini 3 Pro. First and foremost, it is not a true sub 250 gram drone. It is only 250 grams and not subject to registration if you do not fly it with one or more of the following.
    1. The extended battery
    2. An anti-collision light required for night operations
    3. If it is operated with a prop guard which is required for Category 1 operations over people.
I learned all of this after the fact and did wind up having to register it.
As you mentioned, I expected better performance in light gusts, but with each increase in the wind, say over 18 km/hr, the stability of the aircraft decreased substantially.
I also noticed unlike my Air 2 and A2S, where I always got precision landing within a few cm of the home point, the Mini 3 Pro was off by as much as a meter and I had to manually guide it to the landing pad.
That being said, it does take relatively good photos and video, although with the f1.7 aperture, the content was almost always overexposed on mostly sunny days and I was forced to use the ND filters.

I have nothing against the Mini 3 Pro, but just not a fan of the mini blades like my Mini 2. The Mini drones have very poor maneuverability compared to Air 2s, Avata and other DJI drones.
I am looking at the DJI Mavic 3 Classic, due to way points and some other sweet features. I just passed my 107 Certification 2 weeks ago and looking to have a good mixture of drones to open some future drone jobs. Not set on anything specific.

@@BlueDroneBluesA year later and I just got my Mini 3 Pro out of mothballs and read your reply. Hope you were successful in getting your Part 107. As I mentioned, I do live near an AMA field and have given flight instructions for a fee and have done some real estate work and for roofing companies, there is no way what I’ve made is anything but spending money. The main reason I got certified is because of paranoid neighbors and our HOA who are a bunch of Karens, that would like nothing more than to call the cops on me. With a 107, you prove that you are as capable flying a drone as a Part 61 private pilot is flying light aircraft.

I honestly have a fifth hate. That is honestly the props. I don’t know how it is with the Mini 3 Pro, but having the Mini 2 and when your 300’ plus in altitude and your waiting for it to land, your going to be waiting a good 2 minutes or so for it to come down.
I wonder if on the future Mini 4 Pro they’d introduced the duel prop quick lock and release feature that is pretty much standard on all other DJI drones other than the Mini drone, DJI FPV and the Avata drones.
I wonder with a better blade design if the Mini would be more maneuverable in all directions?
    Anyways, nice video. 😊

Everybody hated the mini 3. All dji minis suck in the wind it's why I stopped using them. I'll never go back to a mini unless it's used and dirt cheap and I'm just using it for fun. They're pretty much kids toys. The mini 4 is not worth nowhere near the 1k they r asking. It's a 600 buck drone at the most.

So are most other drones without a screen. Not everyone gives a flip about controllers with a built in screen.
I can pay under $300 bucks for a 10.2” screen the iPad 9th Generation which with an adapter would be a far better display then the $1,200 dollar 💵 Rc Pro controller.
