My Drone Cinematography MasterClass is FINISHED!
Hello my flying filmmaker friends! The DJI Mini 3 Pro is my favorite drone. I can definitely say it’s my favorite piece of gear of all time. (but I tell ya….my new LUMIX S5ii is a very close second.)
In today’s episode I put together a bunch of little tips that some drone beginners might not be aware of.

You're history as a 3rd generation filmmaker caused me to click the subscribe button. Love history, people who don't gatekeep, and honoring the legacy of your previous generations. Keep up the great work!
Spat out my coffee, when you said "ever crashed your drone on the barbed wire of the local penitentiary" 😂😂😂
😂
I know eh. Normally it’s the hanging bag of weed that snags it. 😂
Your a moron.
I’ve been working through all your old videos. You have such a different perspective from most drone channels. Also, I find your friendly demeanor and positivity calming.
Michael….THAT made my day my friend. Needed that. Thank you. And welcome aboard sir!
Great info, Ted. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
Very nice job Ted! I enjoy so much your style and happiness ! Always a breeze of fresh air! I Have my mini pro 3 since 2 months and I'm just totally in love with it! Falls is at our door here in Quebec and I can't wait to capture all those vibrant colors!
Great episode my friend. Thanks for the tips
Great video Ted! Thank you so much for all your hard work. Knowledge is power and you're helping create some very strong flying filmmakers!
Good job my guy for donating
Always entertaining and full of useful tips 😮 Thanks, Ted 😂
Love it! Thanks for the tips.
I have honestly learned more from your content than all the others out there!
He does a great job explaining and everything worked when I tried it. Great job Ted!
You have a great personality Ted! Thanks for the belly laugh 🤡 clown reference and for sharing all these great DJI Mini 3 Pro tips! I will be exploring my settings more after watching your video.
ahhh man i am super grateful for your kind words my friend. I needed it today! The episode I’m working on now is….well….i spent 2 weeks on it….then decided I don’t like it. Lately I’m thinking too much about the algorithm and getting views….instead of just focusing on creating an episode I enjoy crafting and sharing. Tough few days. Thanks for the support my friend.
Thanks for sharing such great tips and tricks.
That was enjoyable to watch. Simple and straightforward. Thanks for the knowledge. Subscribed
Some great tips there Ted ✌️👍🙏… keep up the great work
Awesome tips! Definitely going to be using the location pin. Thank you
Love your content. When I can walk away from an episode having learned something useful, and which will continue to inspire and motivate me to keep trying new things, I consider that a win. So far, even though I have only turned out a small handful of videos from my little mini 3, I think they are probably far more advanced than my general skill and experience would indicate. I, honestly, believe this, not only, to be because of the great tips and tricks you share, but, ( and this is important ) the way you script and frame the conversation makes a world of difference... You have this natural ability to lay in a lesson, without it feeling like a bunch of superfluous technical jargon or complicated logic. Instead, I find myself being somewhat entertained all the while learning really beneficial new technique and methodology; and, as any good marketing pro will tell you, that is a winning combination when you want to sell a point and make it memorable. You have helped shortcut a lot of entry obstacles ( for me and most likely a bunch of others ) and I find myself looking for new content on your channel much more often than even the hot rod, fabrication and racing content that makes up the majority of my subscriptions. Thank you.
I love your content Ted. Very informative.
I wish DJI would add an "Auto update home point" option.
hi Lisa! I agree. I think it would be a simple software update to have the drone auto return to the controller’s current location. That would be a sensible 4th option for signal loss. LISA your channel is amazing. Well done.
Another great video. Thanks for sharing.
Great reminders, Ted! I tend to get into a "usual" groove and just don't think of a lot of these things that would be really helpful. Then I come home, look at the footage, and think, "Doh...I could've switched this or adjusted that"!
Totally useful tips, and fantastically explained| Thank you very much for your efforts.
All great tips I've been using the location marker one
Great video sir..thanks for sharing
Location pin, brilliant, who knew! Entertaining and warm as ever♥️
Thank you Ted. Well done video.
Fabulous tutorial, thanks for sharing your expertise and knowledge with us. Cheers from Australia :) 👍
Thanks Dude! Very helpful stuff!
I have to thank you so much for these tips! Many of them I have known about but the one with the tracking box and the compound movement! Today I took out the Mini 3 Pro and did exactly as you said and DAMN!! Smooth all the way! Wow! It makes a huge difference in cinematic flying! I am in love with it! I also used the tip on changing picture mode to 4:3 and cropping that to landscape and it also produced some really fantastic pictures! You know your stuff. Many of these features we knew about but hardly think about them. I am sold! Thanks again!
Was very informative. Especially about the orbit mode and also the 4:3 format. Thank you. 🍺
Good stuff, Ted. I didn't think of myself as a beginner, having flown drones for over 6 years now, but I learned so much about the Mini 3 Pro here. Thanks! Also, 18:55, I did not realize they used drones for some of the scenes in The Big Lebowski 😂
Great points and tips, thanks
Brilliant stuff again Ted, thank you very much. Priceless content and excellent presentation. My favourite reason for having an extra SD card in the controller it’s not that I fill the card up on the Drone, but I sometimes set out with no card in the Drone at all, and realise that I’ve left it at home, stuck in the computer. So there is always a spare one in the controller. So, if in the past, anybody is seeing me out and about with my drone and hear me, scream, 0 F***, then that will be me having left the card at home - but no more! Keep your expertise and fun coming, Ted.
Brilliant tips as always Ted 🤗
Brilliant as always Ted.
Ted your video is so good. Easy to understand and your instructions and advice are brilliantly done. Finally someone who speaks in normal terms. Well done and can’t wait to learn more from your vids. So much to learn.
Great advice Ted !!
Great tutorial as always buddy 😉👏👍
Great informative video thanks 👍
I have just discovered your video.... I just want to let you know that it is great.... thank you!
Nicely done sir! I enjoy your knowledge and appreciate your disposition 🙏🏼 New Sub!
I'm glad to see that you're still doing it
yeah buddy! great to see you here. Missed you Keith.
Mate, you're simply the best drone...sorry, Flying Camera Tuber of them all. This episode was quite rewarding, and I didn't know about a few things despite having my baby for more than 12 months.
But it's your inspiration for creativity that is a cut above the others. I always want to fly and film after (during!) your episodes. No one else has the same effect.
So keep up the effing great work.
Much MANLY love from the land downunder. 😊
16:20 Another way to see your on-screen data is to turn on "Video Subtitles" in the camera settings. It gives you a .srt file with the video and when you play it back on a video app such as VLC player (with subtitles selected) you'll see the info
Always keep subtitles turned on. They don't take up much space and they don't affect the final video. I use them mainly to see exposure and frame rate info and altitude. Mini 2 also records your distance, height, horizontal speed and vertical speed. I wish DJI would be more consistent between drones with firmware updates.
@@riskybusiness5 Yes. And I wish that the subtitles were imbedded just like the Mini 2 is
Thanks for the video! Great advice and especially thank you for the small reminders! What a great drone this is!
Andres I really appreciate it my friend. Welcome aboard sir.
As ever you are the boss !
Was waiting for weeks for someone to discuss new expo settings. As usual, another fantastic video Ted. Always waiting for the next one.
right on my flying filmmaker friend. Try my settings and let me know how they work for you.
Excellent... never realised that.
Great advice, Ted. Any chance you can help us newbies create a shortlist for a focal point that will aid in video editing down the road?
Thanks for everything.
Keep making em', we'll keep watching!
This is a good one Ted 👍👍😀
Excellent video. I am new to drones and just purchased my DJI Air 3. I was glad to hear you talk about the SD card use at the end of this video. I have not found any other Utube video that talks about the use of the SD cards in the drone and the controller, and how and why they are used. Please make another video describing how to use both locations for the cards and why and when to use each. Also how to transfer the recording of both to my iPhone and iPad. I am now a subscriber. Thank you!
Really awesome tips! Thanks.
Charlie thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it. Welcome aboard sir!
I can’t say thank you enough for the wealth of information, education and humor in your videos! The way you break it down in bite sized bits sure make it a lot easier for an old guy to digest and retain! I have really enjoyed my little drone and you my friend have made the experience even more pleasurable. My friends thank you as well for the better content they’re being forced to watch as I show them all of the new techniques I have learned from watching your videos! I couldn’t get a 107 license due to poor memory and color blindness but I’ve truly enjoyed the recreational end of flying my little jewel! Thanks again for all you have done! I for one am very grateful and appreciative of your talent, knowledge and rockin’ personality it makes learning a lot easier for me. 😁👍🏻
So the gov't got to fleece you for the 107 test $fee to realize you're color blind? They have glasses for that work pretty well Ken Heron's friend uses. Showed on his channel.
@@kevindoble5046 thanks! Now if I could only repair the drain bamage from severe head trauma that took out my short term memory I’d be all set! I can read and study for hours and when I try to recall it it’s like a mouse came along and ate holes in all the pages so I only get bits and pieces of what I’ve studied so when I try to recall all of the various acronyms it’s like alphabet soup! 🤦🏻♂️😂
@@kevindoble5046 by the way, I didn’t get fleeced, I never made it to take the actual test because I kept failing the practice test.
Super video Ted. Love your presentation skills. Clean and easy to understand.
ahh man I’m super glad to hear that. Been really trying to improve my on-camera skills. Thanks again.
Good tips Ted
Great video for new and experienced pilots, great job 👏
ted love your intuitive shows you are a master class in how to teach keep em acomin thank you
Roger I appreciate it my friend.
Another great video! Thanks for sharing these tips, Ted! Though I own my mini 2 I still love your videos and the way you performing. 🤝
Pavel thank you for watching my friend and being part of our FLYING CAMERA CREW. Mini 2 for life! I still fly mine more frequently than my Mini 3.
Love your content especially the NYC video, the tip on the props were clutch for me. Thank you for posting great content.
Marlin I really appreciate it my flying filmmaker friend.
As always great conent. Thanks. And you are right I got the mini 3 pro. Your video is right on time.
right on. Thank you for watching & taking the time to say hi.
Great video content, I must say listening you is very invigorating, we as viewer completely get submerged in the way you explain things :)
That last tip is great I use 256gb x 2 card just for that reason & have 2 occasions where the backup card saved the day.
When are you coming to India?
I just found your channel and I'm glad I did. You have great tips and I enjoy your delivery. Thanks.
Bob! thank you for the kind words. Welcome aboard my flying filmmaker friend. I checked out your channel. Wow you been flying for a long time. You’re a veteran. I’m relatively new to this incredible hobby. Hey I saw your surf trip to Mazaltan. Did you like that part? I’m considering an extended drone adventure across Mexico at some point. Do you have a lot of experience with Mexico?
Thank you Bob!
We actually moved to Mazatlán a year ago. I haven't been able to fly my drone here because it's over 250 grams, so I'm going to buy the new mini 4. If you ever come this way let me know.
very, VERY helpful video. Thanks a lot!
peter I really appreciate that my friend. Man I been working for 3 weeks now on my latest tutorial. I think she’s a winner. Should be ready friday.
Do you have any specific topics you’d like me to cover in upcoming episodes?
Excellent, unique content - thanks SO much! All the best to you, Bob
Bob i truly appreciate you watching and taking the time to let me know you found some value in my fun little videos. That is the currency for a creator. Is there any specific topic(s) you would like me to cover in an upcoming episode?
grrrr now i wana get me a 3 mate certainly has some clever witchcraft that i suddenly need great vid as always cobba cheers
That first tip was incredibly helpful as I have found myself often in that situation and didn't know how to handle it. Thank you.
Right on. Glad my playful little episode gave some value. I appreciate you watching and letting me know.
@@TedNemeth Appreciate this tip. So far, I haven't been able to get it to work. The geo-pin doesn't show up for me.
That automated tracking mode hack will come in handy for what I do. Thanks Man!
hey i loved your KANIKSU NATIONAL FOREST episode. great variety of shots. Bucket list for me.
*Thanks Ted*
Unfortunately I had to change the propellers after only my 3rd flight with the Mini 3 Pro. Made a series of rookie errors while flying near a lighthouse and it ended up auto landing in amongst large rocks. But other than some marks on the propellers it came through unscathed and I got some great video. When I tightened the propeller screws I turned the drone on it's side and did up the screws until they were level (flush) with the top of the prop. Definitely a pain using the DJI screw driver and the last propeller I put on had excessive lock tight on the screw that required it to be removed and replaced with this excess being removed. I also did the entire process on a landing pad, as I was working on grass and this prevented me losing any of the itsy bitsy screws. I'm about to by some tweezers for the drone to assist in removing and reinstalling the micro sd in the controller which I find is a real pain. I record the screen as well, in case I want to use it in a video.
Fabulous Ted! Just got the Mini 3 Pro. 👍👍
congrats! its literally my favorite piece of gear of all time. I have no desire for a bigger drone. You’ll love it.
Very well put together. Love the sd card in the controller tip as I have had the same issue but never remember to change it.
Sean I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Glad you found value in it my flying filmmaker friend.
You know its a good tips video when you had no idea those features existed. Kudos for that! Bravo!!
ahh man thank you for the kind words of support. Welcome aboard my friend.
Nice one ,some brilliznt tips !my mini 3 arrived a few days ago and still getting to grips with the features.
Dave congrats man! the Mini 3 is a little savage. I literally have no desire for a much bigger drone. I don’t think the Mini 4 will be a big improvement. The leaked specs (if true) only show very minor bumps.
Please let me know if you have any questions about the M3. I’d love to help if I’m able.
Cheers Ted ,yes as far as I can see the mini 4 will have better obstacle avoidance and a couple of other features but also China is talking about banning the export of drones as they're being used in the War here in Europe so I grabbed my mini 3 while I could .tbh I think it's all the drone ill ever need. Only thing that I'd swap it for would be a water proof version lol
Looking forward to this one ❤
Markus I appreciate it brother. Hope it doesn’t disappoint. It’s just a bunch of little things that some people MIGHT not know about.
Hey I see you tested the HoverAir X1. They contacted me to test it.
@@TedNemeth hey my friend and thank you for your kind note - much appreciated.
Yes, I got the HoverAir X1 via Indiegogo and gotta say it's impressive and is the drone that's now always (sad I know!) in my man bag, because it's so light. It gives the chance to take shots when I otherwise would have thought: "I wished I had one of my drones now". Plus, I got another one and am using them for the "Drones & AI" courses I am teaching at unis/colleges. Great tool, worth having in your creative kit! Keep up the fab work and love listening to your fantastic stories!
you’re the best Ted
Hey Bro just found your channel , just subscribed too, great content great tutorial great teachings and advice much appreciated.
As a Beginner...Thank you for the Controller Tips and Advice 👍 Well put together Video !! 👍
i appreciate it sir! Thanks for watching and taking the time to let me know you found some value.
I thought I knew all about this drone, but I learned a few things. Awesome video!
Jeff that is great to hear my flying filmmaker friend. Welcome aboard sir.
You've got a great way of delivering content. New sub here! I learned a lot about my M3P here.
Tom amazing sir. Welcome aboard to our FLYING CAMERA CREW!
I was looking a single screwdriver that’s match. Curently I bring a set of 6 which is not ideal. Thank you. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for such an informative video as you do every time... I am a huge fan of yours ... btw I want to add a new feature "frame guide" that came in recent update...
one thing more can you tell us about handheld video with drone where we are not allowed to fly the drone or is some other specific cases...
& one thing more I am facing a fogging issue in my DJI MINI 3 PRO camera since last 1.5 months... don't know how to get rid of this ... any suggestions?
I find the micro adjustments very annoying so that’s why i don't use any of the auto modes except sometimes spotlight i use that occasionally fantastic video ted cheers col from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
Ted, Thank you for giving a shoutout to Paul and all of us at the U.S.D.S. you reminded me of features I forgot I even knew, like the gimble control on the touchscreen and Pinch-Zoom. Thank you for supporting our little Rhody Group and informing us old and new.
Jim! happy new years brother. Yup the USDS is our rag tag group. Love those guys. Looking forward to it next week. See you there!

Hi Ted, another video I watched recently identified the screw driver required as a JIS 000. It's a slightly different shape but fits the screws perfectly. Love your content.
ahhh right on Steve. Thanks for letting us know. Thanks for watching my friend.
Love the humor haha Subscribed!❤

thank you sir. It’s Kirk yes?!?
Hi Ted, arent the Screw not in the JIS Format ?
Read this in a Forum and test it for myself with an JIS ScrewDriver.

Allow me to express my admiration for your latest episodes which illustrate the clarity what you and your channel offer. Your content is beautifully staged and edited, not boring, helpful, not repetitious, smoothly narrated, and of course spiced with your sophisticated sense of humor that ignites and resonates with my laughter. Your channel took off to the moon. You are already flying as a content creator- this is your deserved 3rd professional identity.
I’m so grateful for you support & kind words. Wow all your hard work has paid off and your estate in the countryside is incredible. LOVED the Uno game.

You can also add audio to your video with wireless microphone
Two part question: In your first tip on setting a point of interest, can you adjust the size and elevation of the circle that the drone flies? I want to document me falling a large tree that was killed in a fire. I will have a couple of cameras on the ground capturing two angles from that perspective. What I'd like to do is have the Mini3 fly around the tree about 3/4 of the way up the tree (about 50-60 feet up) and at a diameter of about 50'. I won't be able to use the entire footage, as parts of the circle, the camera view will be blocked by the tree itself, but I think I should still get some good clips from the raw footage to add to the other cameras footage. The second question, also regarding tip one is that I would like to have the drone parked stationary about 60' up, off to the side of the fall path of the tree but focused on me finishing the cut with the tree falling towards the drone, but off to one side. I'm assuming that this would just be a stationary/fixed position, but point of interest seems to be the way to keep it on me, so I'm not sure what to do here. I'm brand new to drone videography and the Mini3 pro and using this tree falling as the motivation to jump in. Thanks for a helpful video for newcomers!
Good presentation.. learned something new (tracking, POI)
Albert great to hear ma friend. Thank you for watching and sharing.
