    I think this is the most simplest solar panel for off road tutorial that I ever seen. I have a 2012 and 2007 FJ Cruisers that I'm planning to add this setup on. Thanks for your videos

      Thanks so much for watching! I have a couple more solar power videos as well. If you’re looking for an even simpler setup I have a video for that: th-cam.com/video/qDm2SGva4Wg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=WwoFMCSDQuwz2JHl

    searching all of TH-cam, you are the only one to DIY a solar panel for a hood without buying a car specific kit. thank you very much for the guide.

      You’re very welcome. Let me know if you have any questions! I’ve made a bunch of updates including a DC fuse block some mods to run a diesel heater in some other videos. Check ‘em out!

      thats because these flexible panels fail and catch fire often. almost all flexible panels fail in about a year

    Great video! Interesting battery placement idea…

    This is an excellent video. It shows the full build, the smaller components in addition to the main pieces, and you explain why.
    Two things. I will not fix the flexible solar panel. I am in Canada, and the ability to place and move the panel and chase the sun is important. Second, when using double-sided tape, remove the protective paper tape after you have secured one side and roll the paper tape off as you roll out the flexible panel.
    Love this, thank you

    Nice job! That inverter eats 10 watts an hour. If you bypass it and run the fridge off dc, the battery will last longer and you won't have the sound of the inverter fans running.

      You’re absolutely right. I have a DC system now! All videos on the solar power system build are on the channel if you’re interested 👍

    I just didn't understand why do you use inverter to power your refrigerator. There's no 12v input on it?

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The refrigerator has a 12v DC plug, yes. It’s the cigarette lighter type so I could technically just hook up a cigarette lighter adapter directly to the battery. But I mostly got this system to keep drones, phones, cameras and string lights charged up/powered so I needed the AC power either way. In the future I may setup a whole DC fuse system since power flow is more efficient that way, but this setup makes everything easy for my current needs

      😅 thanks for the compliments. I’m just trying to push the boundaries of my current skill set and documenting it. Hopefully the videos take the fear out of it so other people can try it too.
      It’s around $500 but you can fact check me by looking at the prices on my Amazon screenshots at the beginning of the video.

      @@lexus_offroad_adventures thank you very much. I’m in New York City and sometimes I sit in my car in between client and I often drain the battery so this would be perfect solution

    Do you have a dc-dc set up with your alternator or just solar?

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, I’ve found that it’s not necessary for my usage and the level of sunlight in my area. I may get one to get me through winter when we have more cloud cover though.

    What solar panel did you use? I might run one to my Jackery.

    With the battery fully charged, how long will it run that fridge with no recharge in case you had a weekend trip and lots of storms or overcast where solar is minimal?

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So the fridge is 60W max. If running constantly at full power, that should give me 10.67 hours (640Wh battery/60W fridge). However, the fridge has an Eco low-power mode that could probably close to double that.
      This is only a 12V/50amp-hour battery (12.8V x 50Ah is 640Wh). You just have to up the size of the battery if you’re worried about missing out on sun. It’s also super cheap/easy to double-up your solar array.
