  • In this video, I show you the SIMPLEST way to install solar power into your Lexus gx470 or almost any other vehicle. The basic principles are the same! To do this, I used the Dr. Prepare LiFePO4 100Ah battery with the Max Hub, which turns a simple battery into an all-in-one powerstation for WAY LESS money than mainstream options.

    the wrap idea was genius, howd it hold up at highway speeds? which 3m wrap did you use? thanks!

    Is solar panel charging the only way this battery can be charged?

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The hub on the battery is an MPPT Solar charge controller, so if you want to use that, then yes, use a PV. However, if you want to charge it via the + and - terminals directly, you can get a dc-dc converter and charge it from the vehicle alternator/starter battery when you’re driving

    if I wanted two batteries in parallel for extra storage capacity, is that just tying in the terminals (+ & -) but otherwise no other changes required?

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In theory, yes, but make sure they batteries are of the same capacity and manufacturer. If you really do your research, maybe you can wire different batteries in parallel, but to avoid any issues, I recommend you just buy two of the same batteries. I currently run twin 50AH batteries for my hard-mounted setup in addition to this portable 100ah battery. Both have been totally reliable

    Thanks for the video. Some questions: Can it be configured to also charge from the vehicle's 12VDC when the ignition is on, and then automatically switch to solar charging when the ignition is off?

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures

      Thanks for watching! For that, I would recommend a DC-DC charger like this one: www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q5VYPCF/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_58YMY5KG8VP8D6VTGEZE?linkCode=ml1&tag=lexusoffroada-20
      I don’t trust the factory outlet with this kind of stuff at all. Read through the product description linked above for the benefits of running a proper DC-DC charger. It’ll charge way faster and be much safer for your entire electrical system. There is also a super helpful install diagram.
      Your stock alternator I believe is 130 amps. If you have a different aftermarket high output alternator, use this sizing guide below to decide which one to use (20A linked above for stock alternator):
      For alternators of less than 160 amps use the 20 amp charger, up to 180 amp alternator use the 40 amp, and for 200 amp alternators and above the 60 amp alternator can be used.

      @@lexus_offroad_adventures I have a GX470 with a stock alternator. Do you know what its output amperage is?

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sgoldste02 yes I put in the above comment I believe it’s 130A so you’d want the 20A charger but please fact-check me!

      @@lexus_offroad_adventures Also, do you have any plans to configure a battery system like I asked about (utilizing a DC-DC charger to auto switch between vehicle 12VDC power and solar power) on your GX?

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sgoldste02 maybe in the future if I find that the solar isn’t fast enough, however, being that I have little tiny kids (3 weeks and 22 months) I probably won’t be going on any trips that are long enough in duration to require a faster recharge. More likely is just combining my existing 100w panel on my hood and the one I added on the roof. Plenty of sun where I live.

    Why don't you get another wire hider from KC and put it next to the original hider?

      Someone else suggested that as well! I’m definitely considering it those things look clean.

    Is there a reason you didn't get a solar cable that ends in XT directly? Is it okay to leave the battery plugged in when it's already fully charged?

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The reason I didn’t get that already installed on the cable is because going with generic cable is cheaper. Since you have to cut the wire anyway because you can’t predict exact length, may as well just attach the ends yourself and save some money

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Try not to leave it plugged in when fully charged. In fact, I recommend discharging to 70-80% and storing it that way
