Beautiful like a real-life fairy tale
I stumbled across your channel, and I'm thrilled. I'm 63 @ disabled living in a mobile home that is literally falling apart. I'm terrified it's going to burn down around me some night. Seeing this, I'm going to try and get someone to help me build a little place for me to live where I'm safe. I'm on disability, but this is very cost effective. Im very excited about this, hope for a home at last! I live in tn , hopefully our dirt works along the same way yours does. Yours looks much drier, i live on a mtn. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Born, bred and raised in the Southwest. Adobe’ is my life and every Adobe’ home I’ve lived in is the best kind of building material for a living space. Cool in the heat of the summer and warm in the coldest of winters. Native cultures and ancient people had it right all along… 😊

This is definitely the way to go!! I live in a condo in Florida. I can hear everything that goes on in my neighbors homes. Renovations, dogs barking and outside landscapers. One day I would like to have my own home somewhat like Miguel has created.

I know Miguel, he is a staple in our community. I haven been in and worked on many of these structures for learning and fun. He is def the cob guy. It’s such a delight to see him getting his beautiful structures out to more of the world. What a treat to see! 🎉 He didn’t mention that when you are inside these structures there is a distinct feeling you get, like a warm embrace from Mother Earth. I don’t know how else to describe it. Congrats Miguel! I hope people contact you to build one for them. A home for $1,000 is something most people could use now a days. They are truly something special. I’m so proud 😊.

Love the idea of using pallets, filling them with natural insulating materials and then covering them in cob. Brilliant!

I love these spaces! Hobbit Cobin with separate bath and separate kitchen spaces! LOVE! My one question is how they hold up in the rain? Do they take a lot of maintenance through the years? Hi There, Miguel here...Glad you like the Hobbit Cobin! I built this about 12 years ago now and I havent done any maintainance on it at all. The three rules to ensure the longevity of a cob structure is that it has a good pair of boots, a jacket and a hat, namely, a foundation, plaster and roof, which this does... Yes indeed, Brown is the new Green!

I lived in Petaluma most of the time I lived in California (27 years!). I loved it there, I wish I never left, but it was just too expensive after I retired. I love these Adobe houses, you did a great job, best of luck to you.😊

I love it! Reminds me of the Earthship I almost built in New Mexico. Absolutely stunning!
My grandparents house in northern Mexico was built like a country house - room by room, as money allowed for each room to be built. The first room was built when they didn't have much, out of Adobe sealed with plaster.
The rooms built later from rebar and concrete are probably stronger, but they are brutal in the summer or winter without heating or cooling. The adobe room is the most liveable one in the house, by far.

Wonderful! I have always wanted a natural house! What could one e use in snowy areas to seal the cob??
You can apply a lime plaster over the cob in a cold environment or an earthen plaster with a few coats of lindseed oil...

10:57 I suggest you put a metal basket or container on top of it, fill it with big stones (may look nice, for the interior, if you wish), sprinkle/pour the water on the stones, not the barrel. I suggest beer, instead of water ;) The hops' aroma is both, very "woody" and green. For a cheaper use, old bread, fermented with some spices of ur desire, can be a cheaper substitute. But there you have no hops aroma. You could even add commercial yeasts to the bread fermentation, if you don't drink it.
